Hoosier Roots - Special Smoked Ribs with Corn Casserole

We ordered the fried green tomatoes, and they were delicious! We also had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and jalapeño mac and cheese--everything was incredibly tasty. The chicken was really good, and the mac and cheese was our favorite. I had the prickly pear margarita, and it was awesome. For dessert, we tried the honey lavender cake with blackberry, and oh my--it was absolutely delicious. Prices were very reasonable overall. I 100% recommend this place!

ONLY IN INDIANA. I've heard about Hoosier Roots since they opened. It's about an hour from my house (thank all things holy!) and it's TOTALLY WORTH THE TRIP. (8 minutes outside Brownsburg) We kept it simple- 1 order of chicken (8 pieces, yep, 1 whole chicken) 1 small jalapeño mac & cheese, and because they had house made fried pickles, what the hell- add those, too. Walked out with 2 containers of left overs, all for the grand total of $37. Hoosier Roots ain't bougie. This is a jeans & t-shirt place. But, dang- the chicken is better than my grandma's out of the cast iron skillet. I would absolutely take my fancy friends from out of state to get a REAL taste of Indiana. Trust me- they'll be talking about it for ages. We better be careful, it might become the next ironically hip place that the likes of me can't get in to.

The England burger is essentially a Shepherd's Pie on a bun...and wow. I'm a huge fan of shepherd's pie and this was amazing. I never would have thought to pair it on a bun...and now I want more! I also got the Korean burger, which is burger with Kimchi and BBQ sauce. This was good, too! Different but I liked it. The service was also very friendly. I can't wait to find them again!

As per usual, we weren't disappointed with the food trucks on Georgia Street. Far-Out Fred's featured burgers and sandwiches with some around-the-world flair: Jules ended up choosing a kim-chee covered Korean burger, while I opted for the South American flavored steak sandwich. While Jules thought her burger was somewhat middling, my sandwich was delectable. I definitely could have used more of the chimichurri sauce that came with it, but that's a niggling detail. The real highlight here, though? Risotto balls! Tasty, delectable deep fried balls of rice, cheese, and bacon, that I couldn't get enough of. I'll definitely be back at Fred's, just for those!

Woppo's specializes in street tacos, though they do have several other items on their menu. I arrived fairly late in the event today. Things weren't quite winding down, however, it's the time of day when things are a bit slower and some trucks start running a bit short on items. Woppo's was offering: Street tacos (served on corn or flour tortillas with onion, cilantro, and line with a choice of meats). Prices were in the $4-5 range. Tacos Al Carbon (Flour Tortilla loaded with choice of meat and covered in white queso). Prices were in the $6 range. They also had some nacho dishes and quesadilla options loaded with cheese and choice of meat. I think they may have had a taco bowl, as well. They also offered sides of refried beans, rice, fried jalapeno, and tortilla chips. They also had some add-ons and some beverages available (Coke products and a Mexican drink called Jarrito (if I remember correctly). Their online menu indicates they also have churros, stuffed churros, and cupcakes when available. I ordered chicken quesadillas - I think it was 2 that made for a good-sized meal. The price was $10 plus tax. The employees were friendly - my sense is that this was family operated and they were all quite delightful. They were starting to run out of ingredients - I saw them change things up for a couple people, however, I also saw them refund folks if the price for what they actually got was lower. I will admit I was initially leaning toward a 4-star rating because the actual process was just a lot slower than I'd hoped. It wasn't super slow, but for someone on a lunch break it definitely was time-consuming. However, I'm upping it to a 5-star for a couple reasons. First, the employees were awesome and the young man working the cash register was just super. Secondly, I have to be honest. This quesadilla was phenomenal. The ingredients were mixed perfectly and the way it was grilled was just outstanding. It may very well be the best quesadilla I've had (I'm admittedly not an expert). It was cooked perfectly in every spot. Just a delight. So, it's hard to get things absolutely right on a food truck. But, this was good food with good service and a fair price. I may wish it had been a bit faster, but it couldn't possibly have been better. Five stars all the way.
