Drove 45 minutes to find out they don't take our insurance. This isn't the first time this happened either. They claim to have called but not one phone call or text came from The Kids Dentist. In fact, we got email confirmations that the appointment was set. It didn't seem that they cared or wanted to see us at all. 45 minutes drive to go see Dr.Winn and her aggressive chairside manner. If you call, leave a message. You can text and share this information but nobody did. Only text says "we can't wait to see you". The Kids Dentist can't keep their insurance policy consistent either. Recently switched dentists for my two littles and couldn't be happier with Dr. Winn and her staff! They were so patient and kind with my two kids! Couldn't recommend this place enough! We just moved back home to Indiana from Boston and we were in search of a pediatric dentist for our child. I wanted to get our daughter comfortable in a dental setting so she didn't have fears as she grew older. We took her into the ,highly recommended, Dr. Winn's practice and we had a WONDERFUL experience. Dr. Winn and her staff made our daughter's first dental check up easy breezy. They let her explore their tools and made it light hearted where she felt comfortable when they were doing her exam. Dr. Winn and her staff took the time to not just make our daughter comfortable but us parents as well, by walking us through each step and answering our questions. If you live in Indiana and are not taking your children to see Dr. Winn, you are doing a disservice to the dental health of your child. You can probably get good care elsewhere (and you should be shopping around for health care because that is good consumerism) but you won't get the whole package anywhere else like you can at The Kids' Dentist. Dr. Winn & The Kids' Dentist staff will make you believe in the American Healthcare system again and that is no hyperbole! From the minute you walk in, you can tell these people know what they're doing and make a point of doing it with excellence. The facility is more kid-friendly than a toy store and that's no joke - my child actually looks forward to going because of the iPads he can play with and the superhero capes that kids get to wear when they go back to the clinic. The care itself is top-notch. Dr. Winn cares about the health of her patients first and foremost and that is so obvious it smacks you in the face on the walk in. I can't stress enough how well Dr. Winn and her staff know children. I know what you're thinking, "This is a pediatric dentist... She should know that!". Trust me - it takes a special set of skills to talk a nervous and scared kid into sitting still and letting a stranger stick things in their mouths. My kid screamed on his first visit (and I was embarrassed) but the "tooth nurse" (this is what they call the dental assistants) came up, spoke to my child like an adult, explained in kid-friendly terms what was going to happen, and Dr. Winn was able to perform the cleaning and did so with a gentle touch. After treatment is done, you'll actually get to sit down with your tooth nurse and Dr. Winn. They put a personal and caring touch to treatment and take the time to answer your questions. Everything, no matter how small or seemingly inconsequential, gets related back to how your child's dental health will be improved. I can certifiably say all this for two reasons: 1. I'm a healthcare consultant and see the other providers out there and can guarantee that their service doesn't compare 2. I experienced it first-hand as a patient for 17 years. Wow!! What can I say. My two kiddos have always dreaded going to the dentist so I was going into this already in the negative. When I went in the office I was completely blown away by the ambiance. How do you get kids to not dread going to the dentist? Just like this :). The staff was very courteous when we arrived and our wait was not long at all. I originally received a referral for the Kids' Dentist from our family dentist for my daughter's cavity. Every time we've went, it's been a bad experience. She was forced to be held down the first time for just a cleaning. I was sent to the waiting room and they had my husband go back with our daughter so he would help hold her down because I wouldn't. My daughter had petechiae all over her face afterwards from crying so hard and straining to get up. (This had never happened to her before.) Same thing for the actual procedure. She started puking while laying down and Dr. Winn tried making her stay laying down while I was trying to pull her up while seeing puke coming up her throat and she began to choke. My daughter was made to feel like she was in trouble for trying to sit up during this and for getting upset from the pain of the "raincoat" clamping around her tooth with the cavity. I lost sleep that night and felt like a horrible mother for allowing it to get that far. She is traumatized. I have started taking my children to a different pediatric dentist that is over an hour away and have had a wonderful experience. They treat her with kindness, compassion, and patience. She isn't just a paycheck or insurance payment to them. I will continue to drive the extra miles to a more compassionate provider for my children from now on. Never again will I go to the Kids' Dentist, because I do not believe it is healthy for kids emotional or mental state to be traumatized like that. I will never forget the horrible experience and I know my daughter won't either. read more

We were told that our 6 year old needed 6 metal caps. My wife was shamed for the condition of our son's teeth. She took him to a different dentist, and looking at Dr. Winn's Xrays he said there was no reason for my son to have those caps. I have a feeling that Dr.Winn loves to add unnecessary care to Hoosier Health patients. She was rude and predatory using guilt and shame to charge Medicare and make a buck. DO NOT go here. I went this morning with my 5 year old. Maybe other workers there are nice and good but boy the one we got today probably damaged my daughters idea of the dentist forever. The 'tooth nurse' ( I wish I remembered her name so I could warn you about her specifically..she was shorter with short brown hair...) She took my daughter back for an xray where she has to bite down on the piece of plastic. My daughter tried but then became anxious and teary and said she couldn't do it. I was just outside the room but looking in. My daughter said she felt like she couldn't breathe when that thing was in her mouth. This being a dentist specifically for children you would thing the 'tooth nurses' as they are called would have patience and some games up their sleeves to help nervous patients. Instead, she said to my daughter that she didn't believe she couldn't breathe and that she had to do it. Then my daughter starts whimpering with tears and the nurse then proceeds to try to pry open my daughters mouth with her hands. She said your mom can't help you here, it's just me. I stepped in and stopped it. Then the nurse says to me and my daughter "even 2 and 3 year olds can do this" in a snarky, snotty tone. We left the room and I went to talk to my daughter trying to convince her to try the xray again but that I would ask for a different nurse. Then the mean nurse asks me to go the next room with her. There she says they need the x ray. I said "what do you want me to do?". She said if she won't do it they have their ways to get it done. She said one nurse will hold her hands down and the other would open her mouth and force her to close it for the xray. I went back to my daughter to try to convince her to try it again but with another nurse. As I was talking to her the Dentist came over to talk to me. She told me my daughter has 6 cavities (my family dentist said she only has 2).... and that we could try a different x-ray. As we all got up off of the couch to go to the next room for the x-ray my daughter starts to hug my leg and whimper. As that happens I happen to look up and see the mean tooth nurse largely roll her eyes at my daughter. This is when I said I had had enough and was going somewhere else. I know this place has some good reviews online. So, maybe other nurses are fine, but honestly I wouldn't take your chances in case you get mean nurse and have her traumatize your child. read more

I thought my two girls were safe in her care and first visit was fine like most places. My oldest 6 at time needed some work done. No problem, I thought. So we go for appointment and they didn't want me back there. I figured my daughter was going to be treated well. Nope! She came out hour later red as could be and still crying so hard that she couldn't talk. I was like what the hell happened to my child? They said she did a great job. Had a back tooth out and spacer put in where tooth was taken. After we got home 45 min later, she was able to tell me that she was feeling the pain and was trying to tell them but they wouldn't listen to her, so they had one girl hold her legs doen, another lay over her waist and another holding her arms down. I was furious. Still am everytime i think about it. How dare you put a child through that? And you say you want them to have a great experience? Thanks to your stupid ass, my child is terrified to walk in a dental office now. It's going to be hard for her to get over this kind of fear. Maybe someone should hold her down and yank on her teeth an let her feel pain. Now it's very hard for me to find an trust a dentist for my children. Makes me wonder if some dental offices do whatever they like to make money because our children have medicaid. Believe me, if I could afford the insurance I would do it in a heart beat. Totally unfair. So think twice before you take your precious child to see this so called good caring loving children dentist. It's crap. read more

My girls have been going to The Kids' Dentist for two years. It amazes me how great the customer service is there (from Dr. Winn and the assistants to the ladies that greet us).
