Kind staff and great food! A bit on the pricier side but makes up in taste. A cozy and rustic atmosphere.

It was fine. Nachos were no bueno but the kids meals seemed okay. Great service and good specials. Can't see myself returning.

For my drink, I got the Forbidden Fruit and my friend chose the Haw Yeah. I thought my drink was ok, nothing great. My friend's drink was definitely better than mine. We also shared their Lotus Root Chips as a snack. It was pretty good with the dipping sauce. A cool cocktail place to visit.

It's got this '70s rec-room basement vibe that I personally find completely irresistible. If I had a house, I'd want at least one room that looks exactly like what Lonely Diner's got going on. And fortunately, the drinks and food live up to the incredible atmosphere. I started out with the Haw Yeah ("Rum blend, amaro meletti, pernod, hawflakes, high octane black sugar falernum, mulberry grenadine, lime"), which is a delicious spin on a typical tiki drink. I've ordered it twice now, and it's satisfied me completely on both occasions. Another favorite for me is the Lucky Numb-er 8 ("Gin, pomello & lemongrass gentian, cocchi americano, dry vermouth, sichuan peppercorn tincture"), which is their spin on a white Negroni. It's so damn good. It's packed with flavor and definitely reminds me of a Negroni, but like better than any Negroni I've ever had. If that wasn't impressive enough, the food is terrific too. I tried one of their specials, the Wasabi Fried Chicken Sandwich ("Sichuan peppercorn battered fried chicken with a wasabi spiced caesar dressing and anchovies on a brioche bun"), on my latest visit and it's so, so good. The perfectly cooked and impressively juicy chicken is accompanied by an incredibly flavorful assortment of accouterments. I inhaled it, pretty much. The servers at Lonely Diner are super friendly and helpful, too. I love Lonely Diner. I hope it sticks around for a long, long time.

This restaurant has all the beach vibes and breezy beaches atmosphere. We went for the Sunday Oasis brunch. The menu looked good and while it was steep at $75 per person, we liked that kids (think it was 5 and under) were free. Each station was pretty small so it's not a big buffet area but each small section looks very nice and surprisingly very tasty. It's not the run of the mill buffet food. The salmon was tender, the prime rib at the carving station was delicious, the waffle station has great accompaniments, the bread and cheeses were delicious, the shrimps were humongous, the mussels were so good. Even the desserts were very tasty despite it being a relatively small selection for a buffet. Food was great, service was quite spotty though as they were busy and our server keeps forgetting about us. Value is okay, I mean everything is good but it is quite pricey so you're paying for being able to sample lots of variety but unless you focus your efforts on the seafood only, you're probably not getting good value here. I enjoyed the vibes and the food but it's probably one of those places you visit to check it out once a season as opposed to the weekly brunch spot.

Unfortunately, no one checked on our table during the meal to see how everything was. When staff eventually came to clear our plates, we informed them that the chicken was undercooked. It was obvious that neither of us had eaten more than a few bites. Rather than offering to cook the chicken properly, replace the meal, provide an alternative, or at the very least remove it from the bill, we felt as though we were being interrogated as if we had made the issue up. We were told they had never received a complaint about their chicken before. That may very well be true, and perhaps ours was the first undercooked chicken they served. However, that does not change the fact that we were charged full price for meals we could not eat. What disappointed us most was not simply the undercooked chicken, but the complete lack of customer service in addressing the problem. Mistakes can happen in any restaurant; how those mistakes are handled is what leaves a lasting impression. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling dismissed and undervalued as customers.

I arrived at around 6:30 on a recent Wednesday and the place was about half full. I snagged a spot at the end of the bar and began perusing the menu. Obviously I had to get the Bobby Burns in Manhattan ("Bourbon, Canadian Whisky, Blended Scotch, Italian Vermouth Blend, aromatic Bitters, Salted Vanilla and Drambuie. Burnt caramel with bright aromatics") and it was ready a few minutes later. It's incredible. It's right up there with the best Manhattans I've ever had, and it's sure possible it might be the best. The balance of flavors is right on point, and it's also been incorporated with other tastes that work perfectly. (I returned to Mother a few weeks later and it was just as good the second time.) I was feeling a little peckish, so I went ahead and ordered the Jerk Chicken Karaage. It arrived piping hot and was a far bigger portion than I had anticipated. I figured I'd never be able to finish it, but it was so delicious I inhaled the whole thing. For my second drink, I went with the Honey + ("100% Agave Reposado Tequila, Espadin Mezcal, Ontario Bee Pollen, Salted Lavender Honey & Fresh Citrus. Floral, Smoky & Tart"), and it was so satisfying and flavorful. (I'm all about that Manhattan, though.) Mother is a terrific place. The atmosphere is awesome and my bartender was super friendly and helpful. It deserves its place as one of the city's very best cocktail bars.

Each dish has elevated twist, and the price is so reasonable and even generous for the quality. Cocktails are excellent (lots of line-ups). They also serve nice choices of local craft beers on tap. We ordered: (Food) #Cast Iron Baked Brie fresh baked brie with house-made wild berry compote, candied pecans, prosciutto, garlic crostini $17 : This served as perfect appetizer for 3 of us. Enjoyable. Variety of ways to enjoy the baked brie. #Canadian Striploin 7oz striploin, garlic herb mashed potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables: We tried different & great steak dish here before, and this one is also EXCELLENT - the on-point seasonings, perfectly med-rare. Roasted veggies and mashed potato leave its own flavour and texture with right amount of seasonings. #Stuffed Mushroom Ravioli stuffed with wild mushrooms, tossed in a beurre blanc sauce, topped with fresh Parmesan: I wished the ravioli itself had more mushroom-forward flavor, and the wrapper had more delicacy (in terms of thickness and texture). However, I loved the beurre Blanc sauce - it was foamy - making the butter-ly and creamy sauce feel light in the mouth. Nice hint of tangy-ness. #Herb Crusted Salmonwith garlic herb mashed potatoes, grilled seasonal vegetables, and beurre blanc sauce: The same sauce as ravioli, that matched with salmon well. (Cocktails) #Fig Fizz: With Durham distillery Gin, Raspberry Liqueur, fig jam, lemon juice, honey syrup, soda # Lavender cosmopolitan # Passion Prosecco Martini # Spicy Hibiscus Margarita All the cocktails were presented beautifully. Today's highlight was Spicy Hibiscus Margarita. (Dessert) Chocolate Espresso Martini Cake rich vanilla cake, mascarpone, house-made chocolate espresso mousse $10: Essentially, tiramisu. lol. Nicely presented. This place is versatile for us. Just for snack, just for cocktails, just for local beer, and elevated food experiences. Promising satisfying experience in each occasion. So blessed to have this place in my neighbourhood.
