El Furniture Warehouse is a great place to get some cheapish food and variety all at the same time. Instead of ordering a main course, we split some appetizers like the fried pickles (all my wife, not something I'm a fan of), the nachos, and some poutine for me. The nachos were pretty okay, which is pretty much what I expected but hey, I wasn't mad. The poutine was hot and was a basic poutine dish with bacon on top of it as well, and it definitely cured my poutine cravings for the time being. Overall, El Furniture Warehouse is always a safe bet when in need of some reasonably priced eats. The staff was super attentive and friendly when we visited, the restaurant feels like home after all these years, and we both left fueled and ready to mostly just go to sleep, but either way it was nice coming back.

He had his usual, the Chimichurri steak sandwich, and I got a fish and chips, which i had never tried before. His steak was great and cooked really well. I've had the steak sandwich before as well and it was super well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Do keep in mind they only serve it with one slice of bread, though you can add an additional slice to make it a real sandwich. My fish and chips were good as well. The fish was thickly battered and was a little on the oily side but it wasn't bad. It went great with the truffle fries I ordered. The slaw was purple cabbage, which I think I prefer to the green cabbage kind. The restaurant was kind enough to give us a free cheesecake on the side with a cool flame sparkler for me and my boyfriend's anniversary. It was quite good and we thought is was quite generous of the restaurant. Overall, Taps is a great all rounder place to get food with your family or friends. They serve great pizzas here as well and I haven't had a dish I was disappointed with yet. It is on the pricier side, but if you have the ability to splurge, this is a great place to do so.

Gord ordered Chicken Ala Vodka Parm Sliders.  He said they were good and he'd get them again. I ordered the Herb Fried Chicken Dinner ... I'd had it before and like it.  It was delicious, especially when dipped in the accompanying honey mustard dip.  I'm not a big fan of salads but this was a really good salad.  It's a big meal so I can't imagine ordering an extra piece of chicken (for $6) unless you were splitting the meal with someone.

On a Sunday evening, it was quiet and intimate. Our server, whose name I did not learn, was excellent: kind and willing to make recommendations. Union Social has an excellent menu, with lots of diversity to cater to all palates, but not so many items as to be overwhelming for either staff or customers. We started off with cocktails, and my son's Citrus Mule -served according to tradition, in a copper mug - was so tasty. I enjoyed my Smoky Apple Old Fashion so much. It is worth coming here for a cocktail alone. Now, on to the mains (we skipped the appetizers, but the shrimp tacos did look tempting). I explained to our server that I was torn between the Smokehouse Beef Burger (which I regretted not ordering on a previous visit) and the Spaghetti Positano, a seafood pasta finished with lemon-herb breadcrumbs. She enthusiastically and energetically recommended the pasta (I love it when they actually give a recommendation, as opposed to, "Well, it depends what you want"). I was not disappointed! The seafood spaghetti was terrific! Surprisingly, the breadcrumbs more than compensated for a sprinkling of parmesan. I savoured the leftovers the next day, and I'm still thinking about it. The other diners, who ordered Cobb Salad, the Chicken Sandwich Special, and the Tuna Bow, were similarly satisfied. Apparently, the Steak Frites and the Fish and Chips were outstanding, as was my Pasta Positano (especially for garlic lovers!). A few other diners ordered dessert: they each had creme brulee, smoking hot from being freshly torched. The surface featured that perfectly glossy, lightly burned sugar, which always reminds me of a caramel-colored skating rink. The dessert was, according to my daughter, who is a connoisseur of creme brulee, was perfectly done. To finish off, my son (don't worry, he's an adult) had an espresso martini.
