It was our first time at The Kinlands, and I think we'll be making it our traditional pumpkin patch! It wasn't overly crowded, and it was easy to find parking on site. It was very organized, they had a great variety of pumpkins and they were priced well. Our kids chose 3 good size pumpkins and we only paid $13. We loved the little store! We bought some sourdough, cookies, donuts, a cinnamon roll, and garlic knots. The vanilla cronut was soft and had great texture and sweetness! The cinnamon crumble donut had great flavor, sweet and moist! We warmed up the pumpkin cinnamon roll when we got home and it was rich in flavor. You get a subtle pumpkin flavor, but it was so delectable. The sourdough garlic knots were soft on the inside and had a nice garlic flavor, we warmed it up when we got home and paired it with some marinara and it was amazing! Definitely recommend going! Great farmhouse shop, grocery, and event venue with a variety of local items perfect for holiday and year round gifting! In addition to all the grocery goods indoors ranging from fresh fruits and vegetables to coffee, honeycomb, meats, cheeses, and pastas, they also have soaps, lotions, balms, and other household items that are cute and functional. Their holiday shop is adorable with festive mugs, glasses, notepads, gift tags, and more They currently also have a tree lot outside and their Christmas trees are very fairly priced for their height We came during their holiday shop celebration and they showed off their event venue with hot cider, cronuts, donuts, and music. The dried flowers hanging from the loft are quite charming. Everyone was friendly including the two shop cats There are two parking lots including a smaller parking lot right in front of the shop and a larger overflow lot in front of the goats and small ponies. Recommend wearing boots or sturdy shoes and walking a little away from the fence to avoid the errant droppings. We came here midway through October and had a fun time. We went on a weekend which was risky, but it worked out for us. My son loved walking through the pumpkin fields and the small sized pumpkins he could choose from. The hay stack slides were a hit. The hay was a little pokey because it was a nice day I was wearing shorts, but that's my own fault. There was also like a bean pit where the kids could get in with like dried kidney beans. We didn't try that this time. It's quite a small container. We also passed some chickens, turkeys, and goats which is fun to see. I think there were machines for quarters to get goat feed which was cool and I might have done it, but I was unprepared and didn't have any quarters. There are many different types of pumpkins in a very wide range of sizes. We ended up just getting a few small $1 ones. I believe most pumpkins were 99 cents a pound which can add up. Some were more unique looking than the ones I've seen at the grocery store. You have to go through the weighing station and get a paper that has the price of the pumpkins and then go into the shop to pay which I agree with other people's reviews that this is a very inefficient system. Seems like they could use Venmo or some other checkout points to streamline the process better. We didn't use it, but it is nice to be able to take the wheelbarrow to the car to load up the pumpkins and everyone I saw returned it to the proper spot. The shop is very cute. Lots of homemade/handmade items available, therefore they have the price tag to match. The Kinlands has more to offer than I had expected. From the highway, it just looks like any old pumpkin patch. But once you set foot on the grounds, you're transported to a magical outdoor farmscape. This was one of the better pumpkin patches I've been to in Utah! They had a wide variety of pumpkins for you to purchase; big, round, small, ugly, green, white, orange, yellow, and more. It wasn't just your run of the mill carving pumpkins. The shoppe is filled with so many fun items. Baked goods, dried pasta, fresh produce, canned fruit, preserves, and more. I would say everything is "famers market" prices, where it might be more than you'd anticipate but it's probably fresher than the version you'd buy at the store. I forgot to post this! Highly recommend by my SIL & I was so excited to try this place! We booked tickets in November for the January Land to Table brunch. I wasn't sure what to expect, especially with a menu already planned out & being a vegetarian. This brunch was so cute! I loved that they had a menu on each plate setting. The salad was very basic but I really liked the dressing on this. It was the perfect amount & had great citrus flavoring. The soup was to die for!! I loved this soup so much & I wish I could have purchased it in their store. It was a sweet potato type soup. It was so creamy & delicious! The lemon cake loaf was thick & solid. Really great lemon flavoring. They also had a cherry scone. I loved the cherries in this scone & the light drizzle of frosting over this made it not too sweet. This was my first time having a gallet. I've never heard of this so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was like a pastry pie crust filled with potatoes & sausage with an egg on top. It was honestly so easy for me to pick the sausage out of & I likely still had a little bit in there but it was delicious! I loved the sliced potatoes in this dish. Very unique honestly. Customer service was horrible, we went to take photos and the person at the front said we were allowed to take a few family photos. When we went to the trees and started to take a few photos a worker came out and said "you can't be taking photos! You need a pass to do that" and she just assumed we didn't have a pass, she didn't ask. Would not recommend going. read more

Kinlands Farm is a charming, unique and beautiful respite from Big Box Stores. It feels like a new space every season with gorgeous decor, one of a kind gifts, fresh baked goods and fresh food. It's a must see! Halloween is especially fun! Highly recommend checking it out. read more

Inland's We came for the farm to table dinner which they have once a month. The vibe was cute and I loved the shoppe- had lots of fun things and decorated very well. The dinner was a let down sadly. The food was all really good but the portion sizes were so so small. We each got one half a small cold potato (it was like 1.5 in x1.5 in), a few bites of salad and a "cookie" like thing to start out with. The potato shouldn't have been brought out so early because it should have been served warm. The chef even said that they are in the sauce to keep warm, but they were very cold. Because it's served family style and you are with a bunch of people you don't know, you don't really know how much salad to serve yourself. Then it feels awkward to yell down a table of people you don't know to have them pass the salad back. We were then served the entree which was lamb and a beet puree. Both tasted amazing but being almost the last person to get my portion off the family style plate, I got maybe a tablespoon of the puree and we each only got one tiny piece of a cold lamb chop. It was literally 3 small bites of meat. We get lamb often at restaurants and never just been served one piece- everyone around us was surprised that we each just got one. Then we were served desert, again very good but it wasn't warm and it was tiny. None of us left full and we had to stop on the way home to eat again. Also it was very cold in the greenhouse. There should have been heaters going, it's the end of October and it's chilly at night. Overall the concept is great but not well executed. Maybe serve the salad and cookie appetizer family style but serve the meat/vegetables per person so people get equal and the food is hot. Plus the portion sizes need to be improved- this was no where near an $85 meal. This very much felt like a light lunch not a hearty fulfilling autumnal farm to table dinner. Whenever possible, I like to support local-and when they are close to home, that makes it even more appealing! This year, we opted to purchase a "real" Christmas tree, so we gave Petersen Farms a chance. There was a good selection of all sizes of trees-some fairly small, on up to humongous ones that would have filled our entire living room. After we selected a tree, it took a little time to find someone to help us. It turns out there was just one employee there and he was swamped. When we showed him the tree we wanted, he advised us that this particular tree, along with any of the others that had a ribbon tied to them, came from a tree lot and would be more expensive than the ones without ribbons. ($20 per foot as compared to the $12 per foot). So we opted to keep looking and find something a little less expensive. We found a tree that we liked and it was cut and hauled out for us pretty quickly. While they took care of that, we warmed up by the fire pit-a welcome reprieve on a cold night. Our tree cost us $72 and smells nice. I'm hopeful that it won't dry out before Christmas. read more

I have lived near by for a few years and always thought Kinlands (formerly Peterson's family farm) looked adorable, but I never stopped in. After seeing some posts about The Kinlands, I decided to check out the pumpkin patch and market. The pumpkin patch is free to visit and explore and it's very cute with a great selection of pumpkins and activities for the kids. Awesome photo spot with several locations for the perfect fall photos. I purchased some pumpkins and it was pretty pricey. You don't know the exact price until after it is weighed and you take the weight ticket to the market, so you can't really take out any pumpkins if it ends up being beyond your budget. I was a bit shocked by the price, but at least they are cute! The market is really adorable and has awesome local products and produce. However, it is very expensive. I love the idea of supporting local, but unfortunately the products here were above my budget and I did not purchase anything. I think it would be nice for more unique gifts for the holidays. There seriously was a line (with an hour long wait) at the pumpkin weighing station alone. Perhaps they should make it so you could also purchase your pumpkins in that area, rather than giving you a ticket to go stand another long line to do so. Super cute inside of their little market and the pumpkins had a great selection with a good variety of different types of pumpkins. Definitely get there early to avoid a crowd, and if you love pumpkins and are stocking up for the two upcoming holidays expect to pay a little extra, the prices were a little high. Not an issue though because supporting local! We unfortunately didn't buy anything from the market, because the prices just seemed a little to steep for what you were getting. They have a wide range of totems available, very fresh produce and some very cute home decor/gift ideas. I have heard mention of Petersen Family Farms several times, but only as relates to their pumpkin patch, and once for Christmas trees. My imagination's rendering painted it as a family activity destination in the vein of all pick-your-own farms. This is not bad, simply not something I would normally seek out. With a little research, it sounded as though there was more to the story, and when I learned of the existence of a sort of mini farmers market, knew I must go. Located right off 4000 West in Riverton, signs dotted the last mile or two of my journey, and a good thing as, once I did reach the farm, it appeared to pop out of nowhere! A dirt road edged by towering sunflowers, vibrant zinnias, and other waving flowers leads straight to the store at the end. Wooden wire reel tables and chairs decorate the front, and a few people were reclining outdoors drinking coffee, enjoying snacks, or just chatting with friends as their kids ran about. Inside, I found a market quite different from what I had anticipated. First, while they maintain a certain rusticity, the interior is also stylish, with tall weathered wooden shelving, subtle recessed lights, and even large dried floral arrangements suspended from the ceiling. They had the produce I expected: a table overflowing with various stone fruits, a whole wall of tomatoes and even tomatillos, and then some unexpected or more rare vegetables like cute zephyr squash, blushing okra, and both dried and fresh herbs. Beloved local brands include Clifford Family Farm eggs, Salsa del Diablo, Stoneground breads, and Heber Valley Cheese. I snatched up a lot of that stuff, but was so surprised and charmed by all the additional home goods and pantry staples like spices, popcorn, pickles, honey, vinegar, olive oil, and many other condiments. If these were not locally sourced, they were from well-respected high quality brands like Jacobsen Salt (they even had their salty licorice, yesssss!). Bright bouquets of fresh cut flowers reside near the registers, along with some treats and other tempting goodies. Though fairly busy with a bit of a line, check out was quick and cheery. Prices are very reasonable, and they even offer a weekly special (on this day, a giant bag of Utah cherries for $3). They host a variety of activities: summer camp, dinners, and beyond the pumpkins, other "pick your own" adventures, including flowers! On my visit in August, I found plenty of parking, though in autumn's prime I imagine the lot could easily fill. If desired, one could do the majority, if not all of their basic grocery shopping here, supporting your neighbors and local farms, reducing the unnecessary waste of resources required to import our foods, and feeding your family super fresh, high quality and healthy meals, all with the bonus of a particularly pleasant shopping experience. read more

It really hurts my heart to leave this review. We love this farm for Halloween, but this was our first experience for the Christmas holiday and we were beyond disappointed. For a couple of years I've watched social media and the farm website and have seen photos of the most realistic and adorable Santa. Being aware that the experience included a wagon ride in the cold, we waited until our child was two to go visit. We called ahead to find out the best time to arrive to be on the first wagon ride at 5 pm. We arrived with our party and got tickets for the wagon. It was just our party and another mother and child. After waiting for several minutes on the wagon, a worker came to inform us Santa was stuck in traffic and we needed to wait 15 more minutes. Fine, these things happen. This Santa was going to be worth the wait. The sun set, it was beautiful, we were still waiting on the wagon. The 5:20 wagon group was added to ours, so the ride became more crowded. Finally it was time to go. I was caught off guard that the message they spoke on the ride over was completely religious in nature. I get it, it's Christmas, but a religious message was not what we're were anticipating, so I want others to be aware of this as well. We get to Santa's hut and it was revealed this was not the background set up or the Santa advertised. It was very clearly a gentleman with a very noticeable fake beard. My nephew even had to remind him to say "ho ho ho". Absolute disappointment. Additionally, while we were waiting for our turn, my husband went to step over a cart at the exact moment a farm hand's son sat on the other end. This caused the hitch to pop up and trip my husband and slam his knee in the ground. Thankfully he didn't drop our toddler. These things happen, it was a sheer accident, but it added to our disappointment of the experience. Because we were the first on the wagon, we were the last off and the last in line to see fake Santa. Just as it was about our turn, the wagon driver came and asked us if he could return the rest of the group and pick us up in 20 additional minutes. You're asking us to wait in the cold for an additional 20 minutes with our toddler that was clearly over the whole thing? No. I told him he could wait for us to get our photos and we would be returning with the wagon we paid for. When we arrived back at the farm market, we were all given free hot chocolate as a sorry for the wait. I asked for the manager because I was more disappointed that they did a bait and switch with the Santa. Our experience was relayed to the farm owner and we were told that we could fill out an incident report for my husband's knee, but that they would do nothing further than the hot chocolate. Here's my takeaway. Things absolutely happen, but I wish they would have informed us that the Santa would not be the one they heavily advertised. We had our out of state family and all the kids excited to see THAT guy. I mean, it's pretty bad when the kids can tell that's not the "real" Santa. This was not the experience we paid this money for. I wish they would have just given us heads up that a different Santa was filling in and we could have decided to come another time or go somewhere else. read more

We used to love Petersen's. Even back then things were kind of expensive, but not terrible though. We went today to the newly branded farm, the Kinlands. The name is going to take a minute to get used to, but I kind of get the vibe they're going for. We live in Salt Lake County where all the millennials think they live on a farm so they will never be hurting for business. First of all, $1 per pound of pumpkin seems excessive. We spent A LOT on our pumpkins. 4 large pumpkins-$90!!! Second, everything in the farmhouse marketplace is wildly overpriced . . . $24 for one jar of apple pie filling? $11 for a small bag of candy. Wow! But, we haven't been for a few years and my kids wanted to get pumpkins here for nostalgia's sake. The reason I'm giving 2 stars is that I'm not 100% sure they are in accordance with health code laws. They have pastries, caramel apples and cookies sitting out in the public space, at children's table height without wrappers. When we were there multiple children's grubby hands, that had previously been touching all sorts of things (including goats) in the fields, were now touching all the cookies, cronuts and caramel apples. There was even an employee restocking cookies and she said absolutely nothing to these children. We were pretty grossed out. When we went to make our purchase, I mentioned to the employee that if their food was going to be out in the open, they should have everything wrapped. She didn't seem to care and just shrugged her shoulders. So, I'm not sure what type of business they're classified as, but I would be wary of their open aired desserts, no matter how tempting they look. I would absolutely love to give this farm 5 stars. We have gone 3 out of 4 years here. We love it. We love the corn silo. The cute little goats are adorable. It's an amazing place to get your Christmas tree but the prices just keep sky rocketing. Everything in the store they grow or is from other local farms. They want you to try the produce and will gladly give you samples. Before my road trip to Utah I looked up the best pumpkin patches so I knew which one to go to. Petersen was the overwhelming winner. If I'm being honest, when I first pulled up I was disappointed. From the road and parking lot it didn't seem that great. But I was wrong. The first impression was deceiving. The farm is actually really cool. I went during the afternoon and it was neat so I bet going during the evening would be even better. There are cute goats and emus to visit and activities during the evening. There are lots of fun photo opportunities as well. They have tons of different types of pumpkins to choose from. There is also a store that has other produce and local goods. There are very few places that you can go and get fresh produce and food as well and things you may need for all sorts of healing processes. I've gone looking for lavender, or a certain herb. Pumpkins pumpkins everywhere. Giant ones, green ones, white ones, warty ones, squatty ones, and gourds galore. This was our first time to the Farm and it was really impressive. I was surrounded by 10,000 pumpkins. Seriously the most pumpkins I have ever seen. They had a small corn maze, fun slide, small petting zoo, corn pit, apple sling shot, and a very large farmers market. It was Friday night and they had a half dozen food trucks and live music. The pumpkins were reasonably priced and the hayride and apple sling shot were a couple bucks. It was crowded, but the kids had a great time. read more

We go here everywhere in October. My 4 year old loves all of the things to do and I love that they don't charge just to get in, like some other farms do this time of year. They have tons of pumpkins, and this year, there was a huge variety. We had fun looking at all of them! They enclosed the corn pit this year. I think this is a win. It keeps kids in the shade and it'll make a smaller mess for them to clean up at the end of the season. The spot they had it at last year was nice too, and I liked watching the goats climb all over the place. They have 2 slides on a giant stack of hay. My son loved it. It's out in the middle of the farm, so a grateful spot to climb up to for a good view of the farm. The farm store has tons of amazing looking stuff but some things seem to be far more expensive than they need to be. $8.50 for apple cider? I'll buy mine somewhere else, which really sucks because I love supporting local businesses. The activity prices are great. It's only a couple of dollars to ride the big wagon with all the hay, which we didn't do this year. We went too late at night with a 4 year old to be able to do their little corn maze, so I can't say how good that was. It's small though, so probably won't take long and great for kids. read more

A fun, family-friendly way to spend an hour or two. The selection of carving pumpkins (classic orange) is massive. They range in size up to 40 lbs and more and they are in great shape with good proportions. Real stunners. Mini pumpkins and assorted gourds are also plentiful and pretty. Prices for carving pumpkins are 39 cents a pound, about 10 cents more than Smiths or Home Depot but well within reason. Mini pumpkins and gourds are slightly cheaper than Trader Joes. The space includes a large area for pumpkin picking, wheelbarrows for hauling, two large haystacks with tunnels and slides for the kids, a short tractor ride, face-painting, apple-slingshot game and a store with decorative items and treats. The biggest downside is location, but it's not their fault. The total area size is small, and they're surrounded by suburban sprawl and new housing developments. You are literally a minute away from Walmart for example. If you want that Olde Tyme Countrye Feele you'll need to strike out further. read more

I love coming to Peterson Family Farm for the seasonal veggies and fruit. Prices are a bit more than you pay at Walmart or Smiths but the quality is usually much better. They have different workshops for canning and other events like the upcoming chile roast. I definitely come here once a week to savor the summer and fall flavors. My grandpa was a prize-winning farmer himself and from the moment I stepped foot out of my car, I felt like he was there giving me a high-5 for finding this place. Fresh variety of product, meats, seasonings- all locally grown and harvested. Inside the store is cozy and reminiscent of the store my grandpa and family at home ran. I probably drove by this place a thousand times and I have no idea why it took me so long to check it out... but I'm SO glad I finally did. The Farm Store (which is open year-round) sits at the end of a long dirt driveway with rows of hoop-style greenhouses to the north and a big red barn to the south. There are usually a couple friendly little farm kitties wandering around, as well as goats and chickens in various pens. And, whenever I visit there are always plenty of folks hard at work. The first time I walked into the store I was actually quite surprised-- it was cleaner, more organized and... cuter(?) than I would've expected. It's somewhere between being actually rustic and, dare I say... hipster-rustic, but not in a pretentious way. I think they've actually got something sort of brilliant going on, in that their branding/marketing is quite modern, and yet they've got the most quaint, down-to-earth type of business that anyone could possibly have. They always have a good selection of fresh produce (whatever is in season) that they either grow on their farms or bring in from other farms that they've partnered with. They have fresh local eggs (they sell eggs from their own chickens as well as Little Cluckers and Clifford Family Farms) which I absolutely love, as most eggs at the grocery store are surprisingly old and never as good. They also have a nice selection of local meat-- sausage, bacon, various cuts of lamb and grass-fed beef, and my personal favorite, beefalo. It's SO good. You can get in on beef shares, as well as month-to-month CSA shares, which is a really cool way to help sustain these local producers. There are a few things I wish they would carry-- chicken (it's surprisingly hard to find local chicken, my other go-to local meat producer doesn't have it all that often) and local dairy products like milk & butter. They occasionally have local bread, but I'd LOVE to see some true artisan bread from someone like Bread Riot Bakehouse-- I'd be there every single day if they did. That said, I also understand that the perishability of those items can be a bit difficult to handle for this kind of operation. The store is also chock-full of really cool specialty items (some local, some not) like honey, salsas, candies and all sorts of cute decor and household items. Some of it is pretty pricey, but it's a well-curated collection and there are definitely some unique items that I plan on scoring for Christmas gifts. They also have some awesome seasonal events like the Food Truck League roundup on Fridays (over for the season, but I'm guessing that'll be back when the weather is right), Harvest Festival (pumpkin patch, hay rides, live music, corn maze, fresh cider, face painting, food trucks... my kids had a blast) and even holiday events & Christmas trees. I love supporting local farmers and feeding my family the freshest food possible and Petersen Family Farms makes that so much easier. I am officially a loyal fan. read more
