Wow--this is easily the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at! The location is unbeatable, situated right in the heart of Venice's shops and restaurants, and just a five-minute drive from the Pier and close to Santa Monica. The amenities are beautifully maintained and add such a sophisticated aesthetic to the property; I especially loved the jacuzzi and the pristine fire pit. The staff made me feel incredibly welcome and safe throughout my stay. A huge bonus was the ample free street parking--a rare find in LA! Also, the beds were so comfortable that I actually called the front desk to find out the brand so I can buy one for myself. My only suggestions would be adding in-room microwaves and improving the bathroom lighting for getting ready. Overall, an incredible experience and I will definitely be back! read more

The girl in the front sent maintenance guy up to spray raid and he sprayed so much the whole room smelled like raid. Couldn't even open any windows. I had an extremely disappointing experience at The Kinney Venice Beach Hotel. Less than five hours after checking in, we found roaches in and around the mini fridge area of our room. Maintenance came after the first sighting, sprayed the area, and cleaned it, but the problem was not resolved. We found roaches in the same area on two additional occasions, making it clear this was not an isolated incident. Because we no longer felt comfortable staying in the room, we informed the front desk. We were told that nothing could be done until management arrived after 6:00 a.m. Since there was no immediate resolution available, I had to contact Airbnb directly for assistance. Between midnight and 1:00 a.m. on the Fourth of July, we were forced to leave the hotel and find somewhere else to stay. Having to search for accommodations in the middle of the night on a holiday was stressful and completely disrupted our trip. The experience didn't end there. The food we had purchased and stored in the refrigerator had been contaminated by the roaches and had to be discarded. I was told management would contact me the following day, but that never happened. I also sent an email that morning, as instructed, and still have not received any response regarding the contaminated food or the overall experience. I have given the hotel ample time to communicate with me before writing this review, but since no one has followed up, I am sharing my honest and factual experience. While the maintenance staff did respond initially, the recurring roach problem, the lack of an immediate solution, and the complete absence of communication and accountability from management made this one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. I cannot recommend staying here until these issues are properly addressed. I'm sorry to repeat. No offer for refund on food that went bad due to lack of cleanliness with pests living in the fridge is wild and not attempting to reach out like promised is even worse. Please don't post a copy and paste response just saying thank you. This is not something to be thankful for being notified about. Find a way to fix a relationship. Hotel is located near a busy thoroughfare called the Abbott Kinney which has lots of restaurants and stores! The customer service here is superb and the amenities at this hotel include: complimentary WiF, a swimming pool! fitness center! hammocks! a quad area with table tennis, sun deck chairs, a wet bar as well as ice and vending machines! The rooms are clean and include standard amenities such as a flat screen TV, coffee maker, refrigerator, small wooden table with a chair, a closet with ironing amenities, a safe to store your valuables, a luggage rack, a bathrobe and hair dryer! We booked this place to explore Venice beach and Santa Monica and this place was not worth $300. They make you pay a ridiculous parking fee of $38 as well. The room smells unpleasant upon entry and stuffy. The bathroom did not have a ventilator so I definitely believe the other reviews about mold issues especially since the floors in there are wooden. They don't even have hand soap. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and cheap, we couldn't sleep all night. The bedsheets are very scratchy and made me itch. I hope there was no bed bugs. I definitely will not be staying here again as this gives more motel vibes. read more

Centrally located in Venice, not far from Abbot Kinney is this hotel. We got a suite here to hang out with friends and family after my cousin got hitched in Santa Monica. Guests can park here until 2AM. If your guests decide to park here, it's $20, which is not bad in my opinion. I really liked the suite we stayed in. It had charm to it and was quite big. I also really like the fact that they had Lather as their products in the bathroom. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Venice. read more

I love this place! It's our home away from home while in LA. We always love hanging out at Venice beach and this place is close enough to do that without being right in the thick of it. The walk to the Venice pier or the Boardwalk isn't that bad, but it's not super close either. But you can also have some fun and take a scooter as well. I love the crash pad suites, plenty of room and trendy decor. the hot tub and pool are always welcome after a Long beach day. Just wish they were open longer. if you like boutique style hotels with some unique charm, you'll like this place. read more

My fiancé and I enjoyed ourselves a whole lot! We were able to rent bikes for the day right from the hotel which was extremely affordable and they were able to take the costs out the deposit. The beach was close enough to be convenient and the hotel is surrounded by restaurants and other local spots. The room was spacious, the decor was exactly as is shown on their ads, and the amenities were great, including the courtyard and hot tub. Would recommend and stay again read more

Trendy and funky. Lots of Euro Trash just back from Ibiza so you know it's where the cool kids hang. The pool is big enough for 5 Americans or 8 skinny Europeans. Beds were comfy and parking convenient although not quite sure about security. I mean it's Venice so you expect to get hussled, robbed or step in some animal poo at some point. I still have no idea what the attraction is to California beaches but to each their own. I personally prefer them to be free of pollution and used heroin needles. If you have to go to the Venice area this is a decent hotel the DIY team did a great job fixing up a dive. read more

I had a very pleasant stay at The Kinney. The location is great; walking distance to Abbot Kinney and the Venice boardwalk. While parking is an extra $20 a day, the garage is big and has plenty of parking. Worth the peace of mind to have it off the street. The rooms are clean and have fun décor which definitely spices up the generic feel of so many hotels at this price point. The pool, common area, and fitness center are all small but are nice to have. I had a nice soak in the hot tub one afternoon and had the place to myself. The negatives: the keycards are some of the worst I've experienced in terms of losing their magnetism. In the two days that I was there, I had to get my cards reprogrammed twice. I even kept them in the little card protector. Despite having paid for parking, I received a note on my vehicle in the garage saying it was going to be towed. Maybe the person who checked me in forgot to register it, but I'm glad I caught the note before it got towed away! The breakfast room and room cleanings are both suspended due to covid. While it's not their fault, it's too bad to be paying for perks that aren't available. read more

Stayed here for 1 night instead of staying close to the airport. It was a far walk from the beach so I would recommend driving. The pictures online make it look cool but it was really pretty basic. We had a king suite and it was just a bed, bathroom and pull out couch. There were no bells and whistles. They serve coffee only in the morning. Clean, classy, unique, and quiet. Perfect location too. You can easily ride electric bikes and scooters to Venice beach, or walk to the shopping strip. My ONLY complaint, and I feel like a snob saying this, is no complimentary water. They sell $3 and $5 Voss water in the lobby though, a vending machine on the 2nd floor sells Dasani, and there's a liquor store right next door. We tried to check in early because our flight landed ~11am, but didn't have any availability so they held onto our suitcases while we killed time exploring. I visited the Kinney for 1 night the first week of December 2021. It was a pit stop before heading to Anaheim. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel it has a convenience store right next to it. And is withingw walking distance to Inn N Out which was on my list of places to visit while on the West Coast. So that was perfect. The hotel is now as close to Venice Beach as I had thought. However, it was ok because there was free transportation from the hotel to the beach. So I was happy that I didn't have to add the extra expense into my budget. Being as though initially I thought we would be within walking distant from the beach. But it all worked out fine. The receptionist were very knowledgeable and friendly. The hotel room was very clean. The bathroom was just regular but clean. I really am not a fan of when the sink is not in the bathroom. But that's just my pre preference . I know some people actually like that set up. It also had a refrigerator and was a nice size for two people. The bed was also very comfortable. I did not get to use the pool or the outside lounge because I really didn't have the time. As well as the weather was not that great either. However, I will be back to cali and I will for sure stay here if I am in this area again. read more

Loved this little hotel! May make it our go to when in town! Super cute spunky vibe! Perfect distance from the boardwalk, we took scooters and it took about 5-8 minutes and they were fun. The hotel does offer bike rentals as well $15 for 3 hours or $25/$30 for the day. I know some reviews mentioned there isn't any extras like breakfast or necessities available but to me, for the cleanliness, fun atmosphere, and accessibility- its worth it. Staff wasn't spectacular but they were nice enough everything we came throw the door. Loved their outdoor area too, 4 hammocks & hood amount of seating with ping pong. This review is from November 2021 and basically the same letter I sent to the hotel. Hopefully things have improved in the months that have passed. A representative did call me after to apologize. 1 star for the hotel and room, 5 stars for the staff on duty. I am not in the business of leaving bad reviews or complaining, but our room was not just dirty, but a possible health hazard. I booked for an overnight stay with my husband and 2 children for Thanksgiving day, Nov 25th. When we arrived, the front desk agent, Eduardo was incredibly nice. He checked us in and we went to our room. As soon as we arrive, before we unpack anything, I always touch up clean hotel rooms wherever we stay as a precaution. I began to walk around and clean and immediately saw that there were several areas that were dirty. Some you could just see and others were apparent once wiped by the look of the wipe. I have included photos. There were drips down the cabinet that holds the refrigerator. On top was the coffee maker and a sticky substance on the counter. Once I got to the air conditioner, I knew that we couldn't stay in the room. There was what seemed like mold all inside of the cabinet housing the air conditioner. I walked down to the front office and spoke with Eduardo. He offered a different and upgraded room, but I just did not feel comfortable staying knowing what we had seen in another room. He was again very nice and said he could contact the manager. I did not want to disturb the manager on a Holiday and told Eduardo, we would be leaving and I would follow up after the holiday. As my family and I gathered our things in the room, Eduardo called up and said he went ahead and contacted the manager and I would be refunded the full amount for the hotel. I was incredibly grateful. I showed him pictures and videos of the possible mold and he said he would let management know about all of the room issues. We looked up nearby hotels and thankfully was able to check in to the Marriot nearby. It was inconvenient, but I am grateful they had space for us on short notice and a holiday. Please do look into the cleaning of your hotel rooms. It is of high importance that staff is thorough, especially in the current times we are in. Also, the possible mold is a serious health hazard. I imagine people sleeping in that room unknowingly and winding up really sick due to the air conditioning. read more

I will preface my review with I am a single mom with two toddlers who booked this hotel because it stated it ranked high with families who brought children. I will now forever doubt the endorsement from Booking.com. I have stayed in this building over the last 20 years under different business ownership. It has always been a "nice" place to stay. It is on Washington about half a mile before the beach. The area is not necessarily "nice", though gentrification would like you to think otherwise. I noticed the restaurants and bars of the past and a few new venues. The liquor store next store is still there with both dumpsters open for your window view. The staff was amazing. From valet to front desk, they are by far the best part of The Kinney. I booked it a) because I wanted to visit my friends in Venice and b) because there was a pool with Jim Morrison painted across the courtyard. I moved to Venice in 2002 because of The Doors. I am a die hard fan. (That means I read all the books at least once and met all surviving band members). The parking is ONLY valet, which is $25. I took our luggage up to the room. In the 5-10 minutes I got the kids in swim suits, the heat turned on and linked all my devices to wifi, we got a noise complaint because the kids were giggling. It was 5:30pm. I don't think there was even room to run. They were giggling and chatting. My kids are almost 2 and almost 4. I told customer service I knew exactly the type of person complaining- we were headed to the pool and the kids would be asleep before 8. I then stated, "I am a school teacher. We must share the world with children." I didn't hear back from them again. We went to the heated pool. It was modest sized, which honestly was kinda better with small children. I was holding one while the other was in floaties. The hot tub, also modestly sized, was packed with Millennials. One woman gave me the stink eye with her plastic cup of wine because my daughter was excited to be swimming by herself (with the floaties). Not everyone is a parent, so you may not understand how flipping FANTASTIC it is to watch your kid swim for the first few times. It is AMAZING. To, repeatedly, get a dirty look because my kid was so excited is so tacky and makes you look like such a self-absorbed, piece of shit of a person. I thought about what Twilight Zone privileged Boomers and Millennials live in that all the pools and beaches would only ever be occupied by them. No children, no laughter- just assholes nursing a cocktail and talking about themselves. What a contribution to society! So I made eye contact with the snooty "lady" and and gave her my own stink eye, which I assure you was 10 times crazier. I am a single mom. I am pissed most of the time. FYI, no one was serving alcohol at the pool side bar. They ended up clearing out and we enjoyed the hot tub with another family, who admitted they were happy to see us. We all retired around 7 and ordered food while I tried to figure out the archaic cable TV system they had. The pop art, rotary phone and hipster vibe is very cool, but having to shuffle through 60 cable stations without any idea of what is playing on that channel felt like a bad memory from the 80s. I don't know why I expected a Smart TV or something. I found this horrible show called "Flirty Dancing" and ate it up until I accidentally hit the remote and was suddenly lost in a sea of drab content. I never found "Flirty Dancing" again. No closure with that second dance... The beds and pillows were great. The coffee was excellent (you can order breakfast to be delivered by a certain time) (nothing vegan). We woke up to the morning fog that killed Kobe Bryant and watched Dirty Dancing at dawn. Those with small children know you wake up at the crack of dawn no matter what your day/night was like before. The pool didn't open til 9am but I convinced my toddler to go to the beach first. The staff said they would allow us to come back and swim later that day and even let me bring a friend as to keep both children from drowning, which I 100% appreciate. However, the glass tumblers and tall glass containers of VOSS were at toddler level and broke while I used the bathroom. No one was hurt but I was agitated glass items were lit and on display at knee level. There was a blow dryer, a coffee maker, lights along the bed (I could not figure how to turn off and on) and Lather bath products, which I happen to love so much, I order them myself. I was able to have food delivery without hassle. They even called as a courtesy to let me know it was on its way. On the negative, I accidentally hit my ankle against the edge of the bed twice. I hate that. Can we hipster that out? We attended the Art Los Angeles Contemporary 2018: Now StART Up Art Fair here on January 26th. The Kinney definitely lent itself to this show - very avant garde with a flowing indoor and outdoor floor plan. Food and drinks were available (free bottled water, rest available for purchase), and something like 114 different artists on exhibit each in one of the hotel rooms. This hip boujee boutique hotel has a fabulous retro feel with a vibrant and colorful modern appeal! Found right at the entrance to the famous Abbott Kinney Boulevard on Washington Boulevard the hotel offers a great place to stay close to C&O trattoria for a date night, Firestone Walker Brewery is just a block away along with all the fabulous Marina Del Rey restaurants and Abbott Kinney offers nearby. From the time I pulled into valet, I was greeted with a smile and professionals from the outstanding service at the hotel. Even though I was only staying for a local "staycation" the lobby made me feel as if a new adventure was calling with the "wanderlust" welcome! The front desk was polite and I was happy to hear the friendly informative advice of BYO and enjoy the fire pit and "quad" courtyard in the evening. Once I got up to my room I realized exactly what she meant... Out in the courtyard it seamed everyone was mingling and enjoying the hotels lounge and evening fireplace atmosphere and it seemed to be calling my name! I couldn't wait to join in after dinner! We brought back a bottle of wine and some craft beers to enjoy at the fireplace and it was such a nice mix of mingling with guests from Europe and a couple from Arizona. The hotel has a friendly vibe, a gentleman by the name of Antonio was so kind and pointed out some of the great artwork throughout the hotel! Along with the fire pit courtyard, there are hammocks, ping pong table, pool, jacuzzi, gym and bike rentals. The room was nice, quite spacious and would be better described as a suite than a standard room, as the sleep area can be closed off from the "living room/sitting area" if you had guests stop by. The room is nicely appointed with the retro feel throughout with a vintage rotary phone (for looks only), a bed with a neat touch light switch on it, straight out of the 1960's! So disappointed. We called to book a room specifically because we were hoping to use the hot tub, and drove several hours in the pouring rain to get there. The person we spoke with confirmed that the hot tub was open and hot, but when we arrived the water was freezing cold. We asked the front desk if they could turn it up but they insisted they could not and also said that it was cold because it was a rainy day. Having a hot tub at home, I know that once you set it to a specific temperature, as long as it's working, it will stay at that temperature despite rain, snow, etc. They could have been upfront about the hot tub being cold or not working, and we wouldn't have made a reservation with them. I am appalled by the level of service, and I cannot recommend staying here. read more

Extremely thankful Alex at the front desk was able to accommodate my friend and I at 1 am. The hotel we originally plan on staying at and paid for told me it wouldn't be a problem arriving early then upon arrival the manager is went from $75 early check in to $400 to check in. Last thing we wanted was to get to LA and after a 6 hour drive and have to deal with making hotel arrangements. Check was a breeze, my friend also really needed to use the bathroom (for anyone that doesn't already know.. a clean public bathroom at 1 am in LA doesn't exist) they were kind enough to unlock the doors and let her use the bathroom while I finished with the check in. We can't tell you how thankful we are for you help with last minute reservations. The room is spacious, staff friendly, secured parking, and a fraction of the price of our original hotel. This was one of the more interesting hotels that I've stayed at! The decor of the place gives it a funky vibe with its bright colors and neon signs. The room itself was good sized and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was small but clean and did the job, and I particularly enjoyed the sink area with a huge, lit up mirror! I got to enjoy the sun deck during the day. It was a perfect day to tan, but they also had ping pong tables, fire pits, and a pool, which was pretty small. They offer free breakfast in the morning, but i wouldn't bother with it. Eggs were mushy and pasty and I spit my bite out. Bacon was limp and rubbery. The only thing I ate was the waffle, which you can make fresh yourself. They also offer some white bread and bagels, packaged yogurt, cereals, and lukewarm orange juice. I believe they also have bike rentals if that's your thing! read more

Check in took us 30 minutes there were issues with the guests infant of us and there was only person working. We called the front asking for batteries for the tv remote, they never came, 2 hours later when I went downstairs I asked for the man who answered my call and the girl stated a man wasn't working. We got woken up each morning by a family with kids who were getting in the pool at 6am, splashing and screaming. When you pay $300/night for a hotel room on your one vacation, you hope to get some sleep each night. The workout facility had one treadmill and two other machines. I went one morning at 7am after being woken up by the kids at the pool, about 4 people came in and out of here trying to use the treadmill. We probably wouldn't stay here again but the location is very good. read more

This hotel needs a major upgrade to their reception. Staff are super friendly and attentive but it's just an awkward entry and it's neither retro nor hotel like. But that was the least of my concerns. Overall it's a cute property that is really ideally located. We were within walking distance from abbot Kinney and Marina Del Ray but we were also just a few minutes away (walking) from some awesome brunch spots. I really enjoyed the pops of colors, the fun murals and retro vibes, and the fact that you can just text the front desk was awesome. However, the room had a strange musty odor and didn't feel very clean. The rooms are huge and super fun but the bathroom felt like a motel bathroom. We were also short on many things like tissues and towels and it's just annoying to have to ask for things as soon as you check in. Lastly, the walls were super thin so we could hear everything the couple next door was up to. Basically the place is okay. But I think I would rather have stayed elsewhere and driven down to Venice for the attractions. read more

Room was upgraded at no charge to have a living room. I guess luck of the time of check in(?) Quaint use of space, very colorful with rad art, overlooking the pool, bar, and lounge area. Not on the beach and not walking distance to the beach either. This is on a very busy street. It is more like a renovated motel trying to be "hip". The pool is teeny tiny. The rooms are ok and there really is no frills whatsoever. The pictures are deceiving. We rented bikes from the hotel and think we were overcharged but not worth arguing over. Check-in was fine.
