What an amazing find with so many eclectic and welcoming amenities. Great value for a truly unique gem with Abbot Kinney, Marina Del Rey, Venice Beach and Santa Monica all so close. With so much in the area to explore it is hard to spend time at the hotel, but you should. Use the Hammocks, play Ping Pong, relax in the jacuzzi below the stars, sit at the communal byob open air bar and get to know some other travellers!! So many great runs in the area and the bike rentals are so convenient. The gym is small but has all you need for a quick burn on the treadmill, stepper or bike. Get in now while it is still reasonably priced, because this place will be the new go to place and demand/prices will increase. read more

The Kinney hotel is decorated pop and mod. It is very artsy, and there are original paintings on the walls. The room I booked looked exactly like the room in the picture. The breakfast in the morning was way more than basic with a waffle maker and teas and coffees and cereal muffins, etc. I tried the pool and the hot tub, which are small and cute. The reason I would not give it 5 STARS is, when i arrived it was 1am.... my flight was a late one... I had cash to pay the incidental, but had to put down a credit card, which i did not have. The concierge was not helpful, he didn't seem to care that if i didn't find a chase atm, I would have no hotel for the night. I found one within walking distance...but that guy should be fired. read more

I don't understand how this place has good reviews. The splashes of creative decor is probably the only good thing about the place. Everything else did not meet expectations. Our room by the pool was horrible. Everyone was so loud at night we couldn't sleep. Kept hearing bangs and loud screams past 10pm. Im not unreasonable either - but the volume of sound was just ridiculous. Tried to call the front desk to find out when they'd close the pool since 10pm seems late but no one answered the phone. I had to call on my cell bc the phones in the rooms don't work. The lamp by the bed also doesn't work. I plugged my phone into the socket to charge it and the wall outlet didn't work so I had to use the other one. The lady in the front is also so rude and unprofessional. Spend a few more bucks on a nicer place- it's worth it!! This place was not a relaxing getaway. read more

At first this hotel was kind of in a weird place but inside it looked amazing. It was unique and weird, in a good way. It was cool and fun to be at. Our room looked great! Beautiful accent wall, nice TV, and good black out curtains. At night the pool area was beautiful! You could see the stars, moon, palm trees, and the beautiful sky. Loved staying at this hotel during my last visit to Los Angeles. Great location about a ten minute walk to Abbott Kinney shopping. The guy at the front desk was the best! He upgraded us. He also helped me move some of my furniture that I had dropped off from a storage unit into my car. They gave me free parking and the lot felt secure. I just had the WORST stay at this hotel and I always look forward to staying at nice hotels, however right when I arrived I noticed I was in for something way different. My sheets had what looked liked red blood stains on them and when I told the manager he was unbelievably rude acting like it was my fault. He would hit the table with his fist and you could see he didn't want to help me. The manager was scary disrespectful and the behavior for the next few days was really bad. When I asked to talk to his manager he had denied me and started cussing at me. I will never stay here again. I would rather stay anywhere else but here again. read more

I have been here two hours and the only way I can describe it is: Fiasco Perhaps misrepresentation might be more charitable. I understand this is supposed to be Venice, CA not Venice, Italy but the place clearly was a loooow rent no-tell motel with flickering fluorescent lights, sticky sheets, eye-watering gas station bathroom deodorizer smell and paper thin walls. It has received a cheap and cheerful remake in retro hipster chic but three out of four of its former life characteristics are not redeemed and have not been improved upon with a coat of paint and some faux 50's rec room decor. Picked the spot due to the glowing reviews and having a gruesomely short layover on a flight and wanted to try something with a bit more character than the corporate same same right by the airport. Well, I got character. Four of them to be precise, partying out bro style in an adjacent room. The walls are so literally paper thin that I could tell you their names, who lost 30K in an ill-advised real estate deal, which one is bragging about cheating with a co-worker's wife. Seriously, I have enough info to find and call the poor cuckold and let him in on the joke just out professional courtesy. Dudes, I'm trying to sleep. Either invite me to the party or go to any one of the dozens of bars nearby, please... The staff are indeed super nice...and put upon by oafs. One star for that. The misrepresentation? The Rose (also in Venice) is swank and fun and makes no bones in their posture, press and marketing about formerly being a bit of a dump and potentially low on quiet and privacy. That's honest. This place presents itself as the baby W of Venice and is instead in fact in Marina Del Rey and is a tired old hooker with a fresh set of tires and a facelift and an over $400 a night room charge. For that it should come with a happy ending, or at least rifle range grade earplugs by the bedside. Coda: Called the front desk, pleading for loud party bro mercy. Big mistake. The party moves to the hallway and courtyard, bros invite friends over and produce boombox. The only thing this scene is lacking is togas and a keg. Two-freaking thirty AM. It's only when I call front desk promising that my next call is to the cops do the festivities break up. Total rip off. Incandescently indignant. Not only will never stay here again, but given the chance I would burn the place down, raze it and salt the earth it stood upon. That is how my Roman antecedents like to party. read more

This place is overpriced and part of me resents my choice to stay here. It's clear that this was a run down hotel that got a colorful facelift and if they had taken the remodel one step farther it would have been worth it. For 250+ a night you'd think you'd get a pretty plush room. At the least they could go out of their way to make it a thoughtful experience, like maybe free parking or complimentary bike rentals (both are $25/day). On top of our disappointment, we encountered a super rude dude when we came back the first night. The complimentary water was empty and when we asked if he could have been refill it he was rude and was like, no I don't know where to do that, with a sorry not sorry attitude. Low and behold there's a tap in the kitchen on the soda machine. It would have been so hard for him to go that extra step though. He was a dick and I wanted to fight him for being so lame. Luckily this review will give me temporary relief. We still haven't utilized the pingpong tables and maybe when we do, I'll feel better about this choice. Maybe. Regardless, there are other options. If you're reading this, I'd consider one of the alternative choices because ultimately your vacation is up to you and it should be worth it. read more

I've enjoyed my two nights here. I'm here for work, but this would be a fun home base for an LA visit I think. Staff is great, in walking distance to a few restaurants and bars, a Lyft ride away from lots of good area destinations. They have a small pool to cool off in if it's hot, plus an outdoor seating area, including fire pit for evenings. This is definitely a bit of a rock and roll hotel. I can clearly hear the music from the common area they are playing. Hasn't bothered me, but I can see how it might. Room decor is cool retro sixties deal they did a nice job with. read more

Stayed here for 4-5 nights over the past couple of weeks. Really pleasant experience, chill and comfortable environment. Staff was nice, especially Emmerson (hopefully I spelled that correctly) but he went out of his way to make sure that myself and my family were comfortable whenever we needed anything. Really appreciate his humble demeanor which is hard to come by sometimes in the hospitality industry. Give this guy a raise! read more

This is a great place for a one-night stay if all you need is a clean place to rest, or perhaps if you're in town with friends and want something that feels fun and lively. It's probably not the place you'd stay on a romantic getaway or when celebrating a special event. When walking around the hotel, you can definitely tell that this used to be an old motel and has since been remodeled. There are still signs of its past in places like the elevator and lobby. But when you walk into the room, most of that fades away. They did a great job remodeling and creating a clean, spacious environment for their guests. So let's be real honest about the Kinney. In my opinion it is an old Ramada inn or something that was repainted and repurposed. We had a bad experience checking in. The girl was extremely rude. We came about 30 min prior to the check in time and not only did she not let us check in but she did not even attempt any customer service by being curious of us being early. She simply said that will be $30 dollar extra charge and told me to leave or pay. I am paying well over $600 for two nights, the least she could do was attempt to get me in half an hour early. I'm from San Francisco and never had any desire to go to Southern California, but I got dragged along for a wedding. I figured at least the hotel would be decent because my partner is good at picking the right places. Well this time he was dead wrong. At first, I thought the wannabe hipster decor was kind of cool, but when you realize that every one of these "quirky" rooms is exactly the same- well, that's just kinda tacky. Regardless, the bathroom door was completely broken. Ridiculous. And in their effort to be "ironic" or something there is no bedside alarm clock. In fact, there are absolutely no clocks in the room at all. None. Maybe they weren't trying to be ironic and are just really stupid. I think that they should invest less in the fake cheap rooms and more in things like clocks and doors and the pool that they profess to have which doesn't actually exist. read more

Was meeting up with my girls in Venice and decided to get a hotel nearby so I didn't have to make the long drive back to the OC. Never a bad idea when your drinking with your girls, cause you know how that always turns out.. lol Decided to book a room at The Kinney. And I'm glad that I did. What a great hotel. The decor is very artsy and everything is visually appealing. Checking in was easy and the staff were very friendly. My girls decided to meet up with me at the hotel before going to dinner. Needless to say, we never even left the hotel! There as no need to. We went down to the Quad and hung out by the fire pit under the stars talking and laughing and even played some ping pong.. Which we haven't done in years! It was a nice place to just chill and relax. My girls even decided that we are going to go back next month and do it again. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for something unique and different then the chain hotels. You won't regret it. read more

Me and my friends stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and I can start of with that it seemed really nice at first. Then one day we were going to the beach and came back to a letter on the bed saying we had to pay a smoking-fee since they thought we had been smoking in the room and that one of the housekeepers had seen us smoking in the room and then we told the "manager" that we had not smoked in the room and wondered how the housekeeping could have seen us smoking in the room when there was sprinklers there and no smell of smoke? And then he just said that the sprinklers was not so good, well that's safe if the hotel would caught a fire? They also didnt talk with us about this they just left the letter and took the money from my friends bankaccount. And the day we arrived there I asked the frontdesk where the designated smoking area was and they said we could smoke in front of the hotel and I respected that and did so. The day we checked out we brought up this problem to the "manager" and they gave us the number and email to the general manager and said we could write or call him/her. Two weeks have passed and we have been trying to call him/her ad email but no answer and we still feel really devastated they took money from us for something we have not done. And I can also write here that they didnt clean the room thorougly and the bathtub was clogged and the airconditioner was broken and the room all in all were moist. And there was blood stains on my sheets, the pool was dirty and the hotel does not look like in the pictures! It's a scam. It was awful and we brought all of this to their attention and they were not cooperative and really rude. read more

Staying at the Kinney was AMAZING! Visiting out of town was a breeze. You are literally walking distance from various brunch spots with bottomless mimosas, fantastic mom and pop restaurants, dispensaries, and your typical stores (Walgreens, Costco, Chick-fil-A, dispensaries, etc.) Venice beach, The Promenade, and Santa Monica pier are all within a reasonable Uber/lyft ride (between 5-20 dollars.) The staff is very friendly and accommodating as well. You can tell that the hotel has been renovated but it does add a bit of character that you won't get anywhere else. read more

Stayed at The Kinney for two nights. We rented a Suite with a King Size bed. The rooms are very cozy, clean and the deco is very modern. The Pool is nice and small. Our kids didn't have an issue since it's only 3 1/2 feet deep. We didn't get to have breakfast since our kids are very picky and the menu is very limited. read more

I booked this room last minute-- the night before New Years Eve for me and my boyfriend. We got the Mega Boulevard King Suite for $299 + $40 fees. If you plan on parking your car with them they charge a one time payment of $25 for valet during the length of your stay. They offer breakfast from 8 am to 11 am at a decent charge. Inside the suite itself, you have complimentary coffee, tea, and your choice of $3 Voss water. Which I actually noticed that one was refilled and placed back by the previous people here..kinda gross. The bathroom was very nice actually- with LED lights, white modern interior, and cute little shampoo/conditioner/lotion bottles. Inside the room you'll find a 55' TV with cable (kinda hard to navigate through channels ) , mirror closet with an extra thicc blanket an iron for clothes and even an option for dry cleaning. The bed itself was a King size memory foam!! Super comfortable and clean with at least 5 big white pillows. There was touchscreen lights on the bedside which lit up the headboard of the bed giving it a modern feel. Although my stay here was only for a night me and my boyfriend loved the aesthetics of the hotel, valued their customer service, and felt at peace. The only downfall was the price tag. I stayed here for a few days and given this time of COVID it was ok. The staff was always friendly but the room could have been better. There was some spots of blood in the carpet of the room. There was dust all over the entertainment center indicating that it hadn't been cleaned in awhile or it was ashes cause the room was saturated with cigarette smell. The bed and linens were good, I actually had really good sleep. You can hear outside noise really loud in the room, not really sure why. The corners of the platform bed should be covered with foam cause I busted my shins about 8 times. Overall, it did the job and I guess that's what matters. read more

Gross! Just have a look at the pictures of my grimy room. Food on everything, hair everywhere and smelly and dank. The grounds are pretty decent and fun but this was the dirtiest room I've stayed in. Nothing seemed to have been wiped down after the last customer or two. There was even a chunk of food on the nightstand and the phone was coated in some brown goo with 2 years of earwax on it. I expected much more for the cost. Staff quite friendly and nice. Lobby and cafe slightly hip but dark and dingy. Pretty disappointing! Would love a refund or discount. read more

Shower was weird with low pressure and either scorching hot or cold as the only options. Stayed here wifor one day for a wedding nearby. It was easy to locate and check-in/check-out was fast and efficient. Customer service was great. The place looked nice and hipster from the website, however it gave me motel vibes - like the place was originally a motel and It just had a makeover. Overnight car parking is expensive ($25.00). When I turned on the heat in our room, it suddenly smelled gross and moldy.. maybe it needs a filter change?? Not sure.. but definitely not worth the price tag ($200+ a night). The area was also a bit scary at night.. with drunk drivers and people screaming in the middle of no where. read more

So I have been staying at the Kinney once a year and every time I come it gets changed for the worse, First the Kinney did not charge for parking now it does ($25 a night) then the complimentary breakfast changed to a paid only breakfast. There used to be a bike rental, but the bikes were rusted I didn't check this visit. The small hot tub/pool stops at 10pm. The water is 3 dollars in the room and they did not even have regular water to serve in the cafeteria, only cucumber water in the lobby. For a Hotel that is highly priced and not even that close to the beach it is just not worth it. Only good thing is that the rooms are nice, Next year I will probably will be staying in one of the other Pacifica hotels located in the same area. read more

For lack of a better word, this hotel is weird. It's definitely not what it appears to be online. It's neither particularly hip or particularly well-maintained. The rooms are homey (if your home has an MCM vibe) and the pool area is a good place to sit and work if you don't mind kids splashing around in the pool. Besides that, there's basically nothing you would expect from a regular hotel. No room service, no mini bar, no bar of any kind. I can imagine this being a fun place for a big group to go and hang out since it's BYOB and empty, but for those expecting a real hotel experience it just...isn't that.
