Nice-ish Courtyard on a very sketchy street. Last night on 5th after walking back from dinner I saw several sketchy characters and a guy smoking meth on a door-stoop feet from the entrance to the hotel. Luckily I was with people or I would not feel safe. Rooms are average. I really don't like the hardwood floors in the rooms. If there was someone above you wearing high heels or loud steppers you can hear everything. The bed wasn't too bad, it was average. There was a nice chaise lounge in my room -- not sure if they have that in every room but it was comfy. The fitness room was pretty good too -- open 24/7 and had a few treadmills, ellipticals and stationary bikes. There were some free weights as well. There is a hot tub and the swimming pool also on the 2nd floor. This is my least favorite Marriott in SaMo, but the location is very close to the promenade, the pier, the train, and tons of other amazing restaurants. Also there is a Target and a Trader Joes right on 5th -- these are major pluses! So if you don't plan to be in the hotel very much the location is great! read more

I've stayed here three nights in June 2026 and have had a great experience. Walking distance to Target, Trader Joe's and other shops. $65 valet parking option only (America is a wonderful valet person - always has my car ready and takes great care of it). Both times, I was checked in by Aaron in the front desk. He's friendly, patient, polite and makes me feel good that I'm an Elite Bonvoy Member. I also get two complimentary bottled water and a sweet treat (Oreos or butter cookies). The fitness center is located on the 2nd floor - new equipment, 4 treadmills, weights, cold water station. It's a nice fitness center. The rooms include a small fridge, safe and all the necessary amenities for a business traveler. It's a comfortable hotel to stay if you're looking for a great location and exceptional customer service. read more

Great location about five blocks from the Santa Monica pier. It's very modern, but the area is pretty noisy. Luckily, that did not bother me. Love that they recognize my titanium status and I was upgraded to a studio suite with two queen beds. It was a much bigger room with a balcony, seating area at a bar area. Staff was very friendly. Valet parking is the only option and is pretty pricey though. It was $60 a night plus tax so came up to be $70. There is a Trader Joe's and target within walking distance so that makes it nice to get some essentials without paying a lot of money at the hotel lobby be market. read more

We booked the room 2 weeks in advance for my birthday..Staff was ok at first upon arrival but once we returned back that night to our room..I called the front desk staff to inquire about extending our stay an additional night.. I was told the room was unavailable after our original clock out time of 11AM..& Was told that in order to stay we had to book an entirely different room..I said ok & needed to run it by my husband & would call back to confirm.. Only to then call back a second time & the female at the front desk answered rudely that she couldn't do anything about it at all..& That we now had to wait to call back at 9AM instead.. She then abruptly hung up the phone on us..& As abruptly as she hung up on us..Less than 5 minutes after that we were then greeted & intimidated by their security & told that "we were being disruptive & needed to calm down before we would be forced to leave." Neither of us were rude or erratic towards anyone there at all & yet we were treated like we'd been hostile towards their staff..& After that completely unprofessional & now intimidating experience by security staff.. We felt so uncomfortable that we merely clocked out early that night & proceeded to leave..Never again..Complely unprofessional & unbelievable..Will not be returning...Absolutely unbelievable..Never again ‼ read more

The staff working on 04/12/2026 were rude, unprofessional and vengeful. We made zero noise a d when we asked to extend our stay on the phone they said we'd have to check out at 9 and wait all day for another room.. I then called the national number and got put back through to her and she answered with the upmost disrespect she then sent security up to our room as an intimidation technique after this we just checked out and went home no sleep etc.. this was at 4am want my advice never come here it's expensive and you'll never get what you pay for Also Mariott if they have any decency should fire the staff from that night read more

Hotel was fine, we checked in at 11PM, only stayed one night. Wanted to put our luggage in our car and leave car in the valet until we were ready to leave at noon. The valet price is $80!!!! They were annoyed that we wanted to leave our car in valet for a few more hours which we had already paid for. Poor customer service. Sadly it made the end of stay sour. read more

We came down to the greater Los Angeles area with some friends over New Year's and decided we wanted to stay in a spot where we had easy access to the water, as well as easy access to downtown and other areas of LA. This courtyard was a great spot for all of them! Situated just off the freeway, it was easy to get to, relatively easy to get in and out of and very comfortable. The staff are very friendly, welcoming, and even the security guards were fun to get to know over the six days that we were there. We had two families with a total of five kids, there, and by the end everybody was saying hello, goodbye, and generally Making the place very warm. The parking situation is similar to most other big cities. It's relatively expensive to park here, and while it is cheaper in parking garage, that are adjacent, we often found it was just better to park here, especially on days where we came and went. You can come and go as many times as you like for the 24 hour fee, which differed for any of the other parking lots where are you paid each time you came in or out. It took a little bit of extra planning, but we parked here a few nights and elsewhere a couple of nights as well. We were coming at a popular time of year, so they definitely weren't giving the rooms away. We have five in our crew, so we had to get a larger suite. Really the only first world type problem that we experienced was that the suite was just an elongated room. We were able to get a rollaway bed in there easily, but having a bit more space would've been nice. Again, certainly not the end of the world and some thing that was pretty easy to remedy. It would, however, make it tough for a family that has more than five in it. they had a café downstairs that served pretty standard coffee, shop food and beverage. They also have the small market place where you can grab snacks throughout the day. The hotel is in proximity to just about everything we were interested in. We were about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the pier, a quick walk from tons of restaurants and shopping, and the freeway was just a few blocks away so it was easy to get away to the bigger attractions in the area. For those over the age of 40, we were also able to walk along Santa Monica Blvd. and reminisce about Sheryl Crow and the days of yesteryear! We had some issues with some folks upstairs from us, dribbling a basketball at all hours, and Hotel was able to help us get the situation figured out. All in all, a very pleasant stay in a lovely hotel in a great location! read more

The location is great: 3 blocks to the pier and 3rd Street Promenade. Restaurants, bars, metro train, Target and Trader Joe's are steps away. As Ambassador Elite, we were upgraded to a king suite with dining table and was given a 3pm check-out. There's no breakfast in this property but we were given $10 vouchers for the cafe in the lobby selling $9 yogurt and $7 muffins. There's a microwave and fridge in the room but no plates nor silverware. Parking is $50/night (valet only) with in/out privilege. $93 is the fine if you get a parking ticket. Honestly, this Courtyard was clean, modern, the staff delightful and the location perfect. I had to run out for some supplies for a workshop, the target on the same block had what I needed. The ladies in the coffee shop were lovely and made my coffee just right. The room was spacious (thank you Marriott for getting rid of carpet in the rooms. I just submitted my feedback directly to Marriott and am now ready to review. I booked this for my husband's birthday trip, and upgraded us to a suite with a corner view of the ocean. The website neglected to show pictures of or mention that this suite overlooks the end of the light rail, which meant all night we heard the jingle and then announcement "this train is out of service" literally every few minutes. And given the presence of the light rail, there are a lot of homeless around the hotel, and some crazy people making noise all night. The hotel knows this- so they put a white noise machine in our room and a little "r&r" bag with tea and an eye mask. Two sleepless nights is what we got for $760 (this includes the $55 parking fee- shoutout to the awesome valets though). The entire staff was friendly- my complaint is not to them (corporate needs to address this) or about them. We won't stay here again. A few additional notes- you can see accurate room views online, the patio view is misleading as it's pointed away from the actual train station view. The water pressure was non existent in the shower, which also had a crack in the side of it. read more

This hotel is VERY clean and modern, however it is really noisy. I think it is not built well because the front desk even called me and told me my neighbors thought I was being noisy, but the only thing I was doing was walking across the room to find my glasses and my son was taking a shower. I did not sleep at all for 4 nights because of the noise above me as well as the hall noise. The doors slam. Also, the 2 beds in the room sagged and my husband and I kept rolling into each other. This happened to my kids as well. Both my husband and I woke up with terrible back aches from the bed. The water took a long time to warm up and even when the next person went in the 10 minute between the 2 showers would restart the cold water again. The website advertises a $60 a night valet charge, but it is $70.80 with the valet tax. We thought that being so close to the pier would make it easy to get there, but there is a 2 block stretch that seemed very unsafe at night. I booked online, and the King Rooms were no longer available. No big deal... This is a newer location. The thing with the newer locations that I have had an issue with it the water pressure and the hot water. I had no hot water ;-/ I did the sink and shower trick. The other thing is there were gnats... over 10+ they were mainly in the bathroom. No view - well a view of the apartment next to us and their TV with soccer on it. Valet (paid) Parking is available. Enjoyable on all but one issue. The coffee shop which serves Starbucks drinks and acceptably isn't actually a satellite caffeine addicts charging port. More particularly, the hours open and the hours required for my personal needs only intersect for a few minutes around sunrise and apparently before lunch hour. Yesterday I was able to replenish my blood to caffeine ratio during the hours open for business. Today wasn't the case. I though I arrived at approximately 1:45, according to my iPads clock. But awhile later, when I returned to my room trying to figure out where I might score, my phone told me it was 11:50something. The iPad seemingly is still back in Wisconsin, neurologically, while physically practically in the Pacific Ocean. Which furthered my pounding head screaming for that legal speed extracted from baked green seeds we mostly all rely on to venture into yet another day of whatever journeys we race the rats. That completes my tirade about this actually darn cool hotel! The room has a nifty image of Debby Harry which greets the guest just around the corner from the entry. *A spacious and modern glass walled shower to clean up as often as desired. * Super cool electric motor driven blackout shades for all the windows! * Swell mid century modern styled furnishings! * A very cozy King sized bed, though I was expecting two Kings or at least Queens. Leaving the not so appealing couch for my 6' tall son to sleep on and a requested cot to be dragged up for Nicole. Which instead, because she's epileptic and was recovered from her seizure which triggered on the flight in, meant I was subjected to the porta bed. At least it was cozy and I was able to move it to the AC airflow. The pool and it's surrounding features were very cool and a long fire table was located just adjacent to this 2floor rooftop region. Another nicety was the large exercise gym which I didn't utilize, but it looked to be spacious and modern. Valet only parking was an inconvenience in my mind. I like to be able to just have an idea pop into my head and act on it. Instead I had to wait for the car to be found and returned, as well as constantly track down a few $1 per trip. Not unnoticed when I also observed gasoline is +$7/gal in this area! So I actually only drove to Malibu a couple times to just be able see anything aside from countless homelessness cluttering literally every sidewalk in this hugely wealthy city! read more

Yes it's expensive, but where else can you find huge rooms, excellent valet, and a not to far from the beach perfect location (hello 3rd street promenade ) for pricey (but not that bad). And while the homeless and the urine street smell is horrible! It's not Marriott's problem, thank you California lawmakers (And now incredibly grateful to live on the east coast) Our room faced the metro rail and it was quite quiet at night from outside, however, like other reviews, we heard horrible noise coming from upstairs or the adjoining room. (Not sure we checked but they stopped making noise at 9pm) The carpets have been replaced with vinyl tiles. Perhaps that's why there is a noise problem. However, this is a great location, with excellent service, and worth it. read more

Booked two connecting rooms for a girls trip for 5. This hotel is a great location very close to the pier and the promenade. We walked to everything, restaurants, shopping, and the beach. The rooms were very clean and the beds super comfy. The metro is right across the hotel but not noise noticeable. Trader Joe's is across the street so we stopped in for some late night snacks and drinks. The pool is really small but it was very warm and perfect for a bunch of girls. The poolside cabanas were awesome to hang out and have a drink. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Definitely will stay again. read more

The issues were the shower flow and noise. flow is very slow and travels through this hotel easily. We could easily hear the neighbors tv, footsteps and furniture moving. This was by far one of the worst Marriott hotels we've stayed at. My husband and I have never had any issues with other Courtyard Marriotts, but this one was very disappointing. We booked one night here as a getaway on a Saturday night and it was $275/night but on Marriott Bonvoy app, it said $256/night. So we called in to book the hotel and to get a price adjustment but they said they could not honor the price we see on the portal because it didn't reflect the right price. So fine, we booked it anyhow and got to the hotel. Customer service at the front desk was a hit or miss -- some of the staff was friendly, and others were not so much, which was surprising to us as we don't usually have this issue. We check into our room and overall, it was clean and comfortable. We wanted extra pillows so I called Guest Services get this... 12 times... before someone picked up the phone. I was absolutely at loss for words. So as you can imagine, we were not off to a great start. Then comes night time... we went to bed and at about 3:30am, I felt the comforter on my skin without the duvet cover. Then I realized that the sheets were all crumpled, so I turned on the light, only to find that there was NO duvet cover on the comforter, but two SEPARATE bed sheets that sandwiched the comforter. Never in my life have I ever encountered this at a hotel. And I can almost guarantee that they do this because its easier for housekeeping to make the beds. But I highly doubt they wash the comforter every time a guest checks out. I was mortified. Fast forward the next day, I just couldn't wait to check out and go back home. Needless to say, we will not be returning. Very disappointing as my husband and I have been long time Marriott and recent Bonvoy customers so corporate will definitely be getting my feedback. This location in particular has really nice front desk staff at all hours and a nice pool area overlooking the relatively new light rail. (The light rail view doesn't seem like a plus at first, but I found it nice to watch the crowds and people watch.) There's also a heated pool open until 10 or 11. My standard room was comfortable. I spent some time on the couch, which has a handy side table, and my bed was super comfortable. This hotel is downtown but is not right in the center, which I appreciated for morning walks. Why all the negative reviews? We tagged along with hubby on his work trip and stayed at the Courtyard for two nights. It is located right across light rail. When we checked in, we were told that hubby was selected as the guest of the day and was given a goodie bag filled with snacks and drinks. The clerk that checked us in was from Bulgaria. She was super friendly and even gave my girls two tokens for the carousel on the pier. We dropped of our bags and the girls wanted to go to the pool. It is a small pool but it was enough to make the girls happy. They ran back and forth between the pool and the Jacuzzi across the way. Hubby sat in one of the cabanas and did his work there for a couple hours. Afterward we grab dinner at Crimson which is a few blocks away. So delicious and we didn't have to worry about parking since we walked over. The room itself is clean and modern. It has wood floors and the beds are comfy. Our view was of the parking lot but who cares. In the mornings I woke up early and ran along the beach. There is also a small fitness room with your basic equipment. I think there is even a laundry room on the 2nd floor. Yes there are a few homeless people hanging out around the street but that's not the hotel's fault. The hotel is located a couple blocks away from the mall/3rd street and the beach so there is plenty of things to do and good eats nearby. The lobby is stocked with games for the kids and chocolate chip cookies. Checkin and checkout was fast. We had a nice comfortable stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it. read more

Cool motorized window shades and good-sized balcony. Included kitchenette with sink, coffee machine, refrigerator, and microwave plus dining area and large desk with lots of places to plug in your tech gear. This was a great stay the last time I traveled to CA in late August and left this on bookmark too long without acknowledging a great experience. The hotel is excellently located in Santa Monica-easily within walking distance of the beach/ocean, Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica Place, and the Santa Monica Pier. Super clean and nice, I enjoyed my stay and the balcony was a great bonus with a great view. They were even then making a lot of ways to enjoy the hotel more safely-gym and amenity appointments, etc. An on site parking deck with signs asking you to honk at every turn-could you ask for more than that after trying to (mostly) behave in the South? read more

I've spent thousands with Courtyard Marriott and Marriott as a company. Up until this location my stays with Courtyard have been pleasurable and very routine. As a Gold Elite member I really expected better. I stayed one night at the Courtyard Santa Monica. I wasn't informed that it was a $250 incidental hold until check in. Normally courtyards are around $25 a night in incidentals. The next morning I requested late check out and was told 2. Housekeeping literally busted in my room at 12:30.... no knock no nothing. I was fresh out of the shower. I told her the room was occupied and she precedes to keep walking in further just to ask when I am checking out. I immediately call downstairs to front desk to explain how unacceptable her just entering my room is. A front desk employee at check out gives me my water and Cheetos for free in exchange. Coincidentally around 5:20 the same evening as check out I am charged with a $250 smoking fee. You can check my entire Marriott history I've never once been charged a fee. The pictures are laughable. I didn't smoke in the room nor have I ever. I've been with Marriott for YEARS and I've never been charged a fee from any of their properties or affiliate properties. My Marriott history and my history alone with Courtyard can easily reflect that.The ash on the balcony could've easily been there beforehand. I was there for literally one night and spent most of my time at the beach! When I called to inquire on the fee. I was floored at the pictures. Literal ash or could be a bug on the open balcony. As other reviewers have mentioned the rooms could use a bit of a deep clean. No picture of anything in the room or any sort of evidence on a table nothing. When I asked the employee at the front desk if I could get corporate info to escalate it further she told me to "google it". My stay at your property was far from enjoyable especially for 24 hours. In all my stays, locations and properties I've only had to complain twice. This is my second complaint. I did google the information and found Marriott's corporate Info. Gave this place a try... our experience was horrible. Day of check in the suite was not ready till around 5pm. During the stay, this place is across from the train. It's LOUD! Not relaxing at all. The walls at this place are paper thin, we heard the upstairs guests walking around all night and all morning. We will never EVER stay here again. The "view" of the ocean is... very limited. Not worth it. Being a platinum status Marriott member. We get guaranteed 4pm checkouts. Well they kicked us out at 12:30. Stay away from this place. read more

Even the bathroom was giant. It was very modern with an ocean/surf theme running through it. I thought maybe we were upgraded because we're Marriott Platinum, but then I saw photos here on Yelp of other rooms and they looked big, too! The room has a small kitchenette area with a sink, coffee maker, and there is a fridge. It really felt more like a Springhill than a Courtyard, but I was happy! The bed was comfy, the towels and bath amenities were nice. We didn't use the coffee maker or tv, but it was nice to have the refrigerator for food. We did use the spa for a short visit at the end of our night and it was the perfect temperature. We were provided a couple of $10 food credits one for each day and we used them at the grab and go counter for breakfast. There are a selection of breakfast items like sandwiches, a burrito, fruit, yogurt, baked goods, etc. It was all pretty good, and the fruit cup was large and fresh. Check in and check out was simple. Only hiccup for us was that they only have valet parking, it costs $32 each night, and they didn't have any luggage carts when we arrived as they were all in use. We had to schlepp all of our luggage and equipment up in two trips which was a pain, but not impossible. I would DEFINITELY stay here again. read more

The only reason for 4 out of 5 stars ... the valet put a major scratch/dent in my car, which was discovered later because while pulling it up, he parked it at an angle and opened the door wide, so this would not be noticeable. Upon leaving and parking at a restaurant, we noticed it ... this was not a small scratch, it looked like the car backed up and scraped another car's mirror for about a foot. Of course, once you leave a property ... you have NO recourse for such damage. The hotel manager had the parking garage email me a damage claim form, but that's as useless as giving a welfare assistance application form to Mitt Romney. Why bother? Beyond the garage fuckery (and the fact that this hotel has no bellmen to help with luggage) ... all was well with our stay. I called in advance as a Marriott elite member to ask for an upgrade and was given an upgrade to their suite with an outdoor seating area. Wow ... what a great suite! I also booked another room with 2 beds and a balcony area and, thought it was a standard-ish room, it was spacious and comfortable. It was very well laid out, plenty of room to walk around and the bathroom was fantastic and included a glass shower vs. the icky tub/shower combo that for some reason hotels of this level still use. I think younger folks would like the décor a bit more than we did, as being in our 40's and preferring more classy/classic décor. LOTS of colors going on here ... it reminded me a little of the early-2000's when all the home-makeover shows inspired suburban idiots to paint their walls maroon, bright blue, purple, lime green and then proceed to throw all kinds of mismatched colors everywhere. There was just about every color of Crayola crayon represented in the room which felt a bit distracting. The rooms were comfortable but not relaxing/soothing. If Spencer Gifts opened a hotel, that's how I'd describe the vibe here. The beds were comfortable and the balcony was very welcome. It's right across from a train station and the glass doors and windows do a great job of keeping the sounds of the trains and the announcements out of the room. In regard to the location, it's close to the Pier ... which means crowds and tourists ... but far enough away that it's not hustle and bustle. You can easily walk 2 blocks to the pier, or the 3rd Street Prominade (although, why would you want to?) and it's uberable to Venice Beach or Abbot Kinney Blvd. We liked the location but Santa Monica does have a bit of a drug problem. There was one day when a homeless person was pacing back and forth in front of the hotel, clearly out of his mind with mental illness or drugs, screaming violently. He was there for nearly 30 minutes, which we decided to wait until he left before heading out to walk. The lobby is nice ... sometimes they had cookies for guests ... and plenty of seating area. The staff couldn't have been nicer ... the front desk ladies were friendly, happy and everyone we encountered seemed like they enjoyed their job. The front desk person I worked with (might have been a manager?) was probably one of the most competent and best hotel folks I've ever experienced! She helped me book 2 very complex reservations, made sure I got upgraded, and was helpful and pleasant to deal with. I travel A LOT and for me to say she was in the top hotel employees I've ever dealt with is not a light compliment. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. Despite the décor not being to my taste ... the location is good, the staff is fantastic and the hotel feels like it's brand new because it is kept so clean. We seriously thought it opened a few weeks ago vs. 3 years ago because everything is pristine. Just watch out for the shady valet service and be sure to inspect your car thoroughly before accepting it. I bet the spaces are very tight and that leads to a lot of what happened to us. For me to leave a 4 star review after a hotel parking cost me $250 in body work says a lot about the value. read more

Location location location. 2 blocks from ocean and Pier. We walked all over. Room very nice. Little pool and spa. Train across street so if going into Los Angeles right there. Shopping area 1 block away. Parking cost of car very high. Staff pleasant. Chris very helpful. read more

I booked a king sized room and check in said 4pm. I arrived at 6pm and no room was available. I had just driven from San Jose - a 6 hour drive only to have to wait. On top of that the girl at the front desk (Veronica) had zero customer service skills. Never smiled. She was angry at house keeping for not responding. Didn't tell us what was going on, when I asked she seemed irritated to tell me. Granted she did say, "I'm giving you a voucher for waiting" but what is that voucher??? She needs a lesson on what HOSPITALITY and great customer service is....it's like she was saying, I know this sucks but here is something to make you be quiet. Instead of, "I'm so sorry for the inconvenience, I'm issuing you a voucher that is good for two at the cafe there" In the end she gave us someone else's room, but wasn't happy about this entire situation and I felt it. I asked if they could comp us valet at least for the inconvenience. She said it was third party so they can't. My brother works for Marriott and knows they can as a courtesy if they wanted too. I basically received a stare down while walking to the elevator by the lady at the front desk. Two stars only cause the room was clean. The view however...reminded me of a jail yard that I'd seen on TV. read more

Location! Location! Location!!! This relatively new hotel sits at a major Intersection. Across the street on one side is a metro station, on the other one block down is the Santa Monica Place mall, in another direction a few blocks away is a grocery store and the hotel is less than a 10 minute walk to the Santa Monica Pier and the 3rd street promenade. My mom and I stayed here three nights just prior to Labor Day 2018. While yes, you may I encounter people who live on the street and sometime the street smells like urine, these are to be expected in a large warm city near the ocean. Be kind. The staff I encountered in the hall, at the desk and in the eatery were all helpful and friendly. The lobby area is a nice mix of retro futuristic furnishings with plenty of outlets to charge all your electronics. My room was neat and clean with a nice view. Each night, I particularly enjoyed the 2nd floor pool balcony lounge area. A great place to hang out with friends or peacefully watch all the metro station activity and the sunset. I would definitely choose this location again. My mother is very difficult to please and she loved it. Warning: I didn't drive while here but I saw the signs, the parking is astronomical. read more
