The RealReal on West Melrose is a very cool spot for luxury shopping. The store has a wide variety…read moreof high end items, mostly on the expensive side, with a huge selection of bags, think entire walls lined with Birkin bags. They used to have separate stores for men and women, not sure if that's still a thing but it made it easier to browse depending on your style preferences. I've sold here plenty of times, and the commission is fair for what you're getting. The shopping experience is smooth, and the store offers a great mix of authentic, pre owned designer pieces. If you're into luxury consignment, it's worth a visit.

I have been both a buyer and a consignor with The RealReal for years, which makes this review…read moreparticularly disappointing to write. Most recently, I received an Officine Générale turtleneck that had been described as being in "Very Good" condition. It arrived with significant pilling, appeared dirty, and smelled strongly of cheap women's perfume. It was not remotely consistent with the condition advertised. What happened next was even more troubling. I contacted Customer Service expecting a straightforward acknowledgment and resolution. Instead, I received responses that repeatedly failed to address the actual issue being raised. The conversation devolved into a discussion about whether I would accept compensation based on the purchase price of the item, despite my making it abundantly clear that I had no interest in keeping it at any price. The concern was misrepresentation and quality control. I cannot recall another customer service interaction that felt this tone deaf. As someone who has worked with major organizations, including Apple and Spectrum, on matters involving customer experience and communication, I can honestly say I will use this exchange as an example of exactly what not to do. Customers understand that mistakes happen. What they do not forget is being ignored when they clearly articulate a legitimate concern. My concerns extend beyond this single transaction. As a consignor, I have increasingly questioned whether the standards applied to sellers are consistent or fair. A pair of Tod's loafers yielded a net payout to me of just $9.72. A brand-new pair of Theory shoes, still in the box with tags and obviously never worn, was graded only as "Good" condition and generated a payout of $7.00. The RealReal positions itself as a luxury marketplace. Luxury is not just a logo or a price point. It is attention to detail, thoughtful service, accurate representation, and respect for both buyers and consignors. Unfortunately, this experience failed on every one of those measures. Mistakes happen. Indifference should not.

After registering **online** for a donation pickup, I clearly listed how many boxes and bags there…read morewould be. I then received a **confirmation call**, during which I *again* explained there would be a large donation. I was told what items they would not accept, and I fully understood those limits (including one oversized sign that wasn't on the list). When the driver arrived, however, it became clear this was not a donation pickup -- it was **shopping**. The driver selectively picked through my items: * Wouldn't take antique chairs because "there's no table to go with them" * Took some lampshades but not others because "there are too many" * Refused a backdrop roll of photographic paper outright I was honestly shocked. Multiple times, the driver reminded me that **what he takes is entirely at his discretion**. I called the donation center to speak with a supervisor, hoping for clarification or support -- only to be told the exact same thing: *"It's at the discretion of the driver."* So let me be clear: if you're looking for a **charity that thoughtfully accepts donations**, this is not it. If you're looking for a charity that **picks through your belongings and cherry-picks what they feel like taking**, then Out of the Closet is definitely the place to call. Extremely disappointing and a complete waste of time.
