Betty at The Knotty Kids Salon is amazing! She has cut my toddler's hair twice now, and both times were a success. My daughter insists on "princess hair", which is what she calls long hair. Betty has been great about cutting off the straggly ends while keeping the length. I should also mention that both haircuts were firsts: first haircut ever, and then first shampoo in a salon. Betty was very gentle with my apprehensive toddler and made sure she was comfortable with the whole process. My child is one of those you dread taking for a haircut- and we've had a few of those cuts that have left us both in tears. So we were hopeful but wary- and this time around mama was crying tears of joy! The staff here are saints. My child tested the boundaries of our ear drums and Betty didn't falter for a second. We walked in, were offered the option of choosing our seat (cars and airplanes) but we ended up just holding him in our lap. They have the tablet ready to go with a favorite show and lollipops on hand. We came in for the first haircut selection and received a commemorative photo, a lock of his hair, and he got to pick out a toy at the end. Worth every penny! Betty was so talented and super fast. She was able to work around my screaming and writhing child to give him a great haircut. I love being able to book online and the prices are very reasonable. I only gave this place one star because it wouldn't let me give them 0, like they deserve. I brought my son in for his second hair cut and the lady doing it butchered his hair. We asked for a fade and I'm not sure if she didn't know what she was doing but my son didn't walk out with a fade. He now has a bald spot on the side of his hair and the front was cut like an inch shorter than the back. The hair around the ears wasn't shaped at all, they come to points and there's long hair left there. This is one of the worst cuts I've ever seen and I won't be going back and won't be telling anyone else to go there. read more

I took my 3 year old who has struggled with hair cuts at other salons and the service was phenomenal. The owner was pleasant and understanding since my son had autism. Betty cut his hair exactly how I wanted and was very patient while he fussed for a while. I enjoyed speaking Spanish with her the whole time. I loved it so much I referred the salon to a friend and am setting up another appointment in a few weeks! As every parent knows, a child's first haircut is a big deal (probably a bigger deal than it should be, but it is what it is). Well, this place clearly specializes in first haircuts. They let your kid pick out a car or an airplane to sit in, have them pick a show to watch on the iPad, and expertly maneuver the iPad around whenever the kid needs to adjust their head. They take a picture of your child and present it to you at the end with a certificate and a saved lock of hair. It's really cute. There is also a really nice new playground right outside so your kid can get their wiggles out after, while you watch them marveling at home they look like a totally different child. I don't know that I would regularly come here, given the price point, but I'm glad I did for my child's first cut. They did have to change my stylist after I had made the appointment, but they texted to ask if I would like to reschedule or go with someone else. We were the only customers at the time we went, not sure if that is intentional or if it just turned out that way, but there was another child coming in for their first cut when we were leaving so they do a pretty good job with timing of appointments it seems. I felt, initially, that my son's hair was cut a smidge too short especially in the front but I figured hair grows back, and as it has grown out it does continue to look really good. read more

I was so happy with my experience here. My son hadn't yet had his haircut and I wasn't sure how he would respond. Rosie was so kind and gentle with him. She had an iPad for him to watch while she trimmed his hair. She took her time and was very sweet with him. He was allowed to pick which vehicle he would sit in and he loved it. Both of my kids have gone to Rosie since they were born and I don't trust anyone else with their sweet toddler hair! I stressed out about my oldest's first haircut for MONTHS, but finally her hair got to a point that it was Einstein meets the shaggy dog, and I had to bite the bullet. I don't know exactly why I was so worried, but the fear was somewhere between my *ahem* "spunky" 1.5 year old impaling herself or the stylist with scissors and/or her ending up with the bowl cut I had when I was her age... I decided we were going to need a children's salon, because those people were used to squirmy little buggers who might cry through the whole thing. After reading countless reviews I settled on Rosie (who was then at a different salon) because of the other great reviews and the fact that she has 3 daughters of her own - hoping that maybe she knew what to do with my little one's mess of hair. Rosie was absolutely SPECTACULAR. My daughter (surprisingly) liked the airplane chair, and when she started fussing at the cape being put on, Rosie quickly turned things around with her distractions and playful talk (well, and the shows on the iPad didn't hurt either). The haircut went so so smooth I was completely flabbergasted. She took enough off my daughters hair to make her look fresh and clean, but maintained the sweet toddler look. At the end of it my daughter got to pick out the color ribbon she wanted for a bow in her hair, was rewarded with a lollipop, and she even allowed Rosie to carry her around (never happens with new people). Same fantastic experience happened with my younger kiddo, a boy - haircuts seriously go 100 times better than I ever expected and because of this we will stick with Rosie! read more

Today was our first visit there. We live pretty far and on the drive there I was thinking to myself it wasn't worth it. WRONG. The salon and staff are so warm and inviting. Rosie was fantastic with my son. He has some sensory issues and struggles with new environments and people and he was interacting with her nearly off the bat. She has such a calming, welcoming manner to her. I've struggled finding a salon that is tailored towards kids, has staff that know how to deal with kids with extra needs, and actually result in a good cut. I took my 4 year old son who has always been slightly anxious about haircuts to Deanna at Knotty Kids last week, and everything was so wonderful! Found this recommendation from a local parenting group for children who are autistic. The salon has a private room for the sensory needs of children, so I booked it but surprisingly our little one was excited by the plane chair and chose to sit in it when they have never sat in a salon chair alone before. We also experienced the longest stint of calm and cooperation for a haircut we've ever had in 3 years. The professionalism and calm of the staff, even in the face of sensory overload and meltdown is commendable. The dedication to continue and have a quality haircut result was heartwarming. My only complaint and unfortunately it is a BIG one for the sensory challenged, I'm shocked that this was done, knowing we were a family that dealt with sensory challenges, they used a highly perfumed product on our child. We didn't know because we were masked. We had even brought our own product to avoid any issue but I guess the professional decided they need a stronger detangler and just put it on without asking if that might be an issue. It caused major issues when we got home. It won't wash out. 2 washings and it's still unbelievably strong. Which is an extra layer of sensory trauma because hair washing is already a huge trigger. So now our child associates a bad smell AND multiple hair washings with this haircut. I'm so disappointed that something that went better than we've ever experienced and accomplished in this arena, turned into a sensory nightmare. Why?! Why? Would you have strongly perfumed products to use on children. Period. Full stop. It's not safe and it's a sensory nightmare. Super bummed out tonight and exhausted from a night of meltdowns. read more
