Thanks to the passport program, I've been able to visit F45s in Baltimore, NYC, Philly, LA, and the two other DC locations (Edgewood and U Street). As a result, I'm confident in saying this F45 is below par. IMO the best DC location is Edgewood, but Edgewood classes tend to book up quickly and the location is not as convenient for me. Pros: -Even though I tend to book last minute (eg within 15 minutes of class starting) I very rarely have trouble getting into a class -Most convenient location to me and decently spacious for something in the city, esp compared to the U Street location -the cancellation policy is more lenient than other f45 studios -I never had any issues pausing my membership Cons: -This gym seems to have a zero-waste set up, you grab a microfiber cloth and there are spray bottles set up across the gym instead of antibacterial wipes. This sounds like a good idea but in practice, the transition times are often barely enough time to get to the next station and maybe 10% of people actually wipe down their station before moving on. -Most expensive fitness studio I've belonged to, it's about $110 every two weeks. -They let people workout barefooted here which is one of the most questionable things I've seen in a fitness class. -Some of the newer trainers here are just not that great? Overall I feel like there's a consistent lack of professionalism that I haven't seen at any other boutique fitness studio much less F45. 1. Some trainers like to hold conversations in a noticeably loud manner (unrelated to instruction) in the middle of the workout or while the lead trainers are talking or instructing (whether they are teaching or attending a class as a student) 2. A lot of the trainers lack spatial awareness, eg walking right in front of you as you're doing a front lunge. 3. Sometimes they'll spend extended amounts of time staring at an iPhone. (More so than any other F45). 4. Something I've also never seen at any other gym, is trainers who literally do an entire work out during class so that they can get a workout in while they're on the clock? (This is distinct from when a trainer works out beside you as a form a motivation.) 5. One particular trainer just seems to lack maturity to be leading a fitness class that costs about $27, those classes feel like what should be a free fitness class you'd expect at a college gym. 6. There's a ton of five stars reviews on here but they sent out an email promising a free treat if you leave them a five star review (which I've seen a lot of Chinese restaurants do that as well so whatever). I'm on the email distro for a few other locations and no other one does this. 7. Lastly, when I quit this gym I left feedback to the likeness of "the trainers here are the least professional of any gym ive ever belonged to" and they never followed up to ask me why I felt that way or how they could improve. Just the worst, the management seems to be especially absent at this gym. I've been to a few better gyms, and while there are sometimes small classes or redundant sets, here are some things that I've noticed great trainers doing: - helping adjust weights in the sled or barbell - tidying weights between sets - offering adjustments to people who are either taking it to easy or struggling with the set - being proactive about explaining the flow of the stations or the structure of the class - helping with the countdown so you know how much time is left, particularly if there are exercises like mountain climbers or push ups where it's hard to check the screen - helping wipe down equipment when it's clear that there is sweat residue - scanning the classroom to check if anyone needs help or is prone to injuring themselves - constantly looking around and being aware of their surroundings, to make sure you are not impeding other peoples' space - offer positive feedback when someone has good form and is putting in the effort

It's been a struggle trying to keep myself motivated enough to reach my fitness goals and get back into the shape i was in pre-pandemic. The community and family aspect of F45 Training is what motivates me to come back each day, and I'm sure many of the members feel the same way. It's less of a "work out" when you're having fun with friends. The workouts can be tough for those just getting back into the groove of things, but let me assure you that you'll have an entire community cheering you on. The coaches are also extremely helpful and keep you on your feet during the classes. There's a different workout for each day of the week, where classes are 45 minutes long (Saturdays are 1 hour classes). The fitness challenge that the gym hosts is one of the ways that F45 Training keeps members engaged. We all know a friendly competition is a great motivator and everyone wants to win! There's always street parking in the area, but it just depends on when you're attending the classes. The dog park next door certainly makes it a bit tougher to find parking directly in front, but not a problem a block or two away. Highly recommend y'all check out the gym. They have free passes online. I took advantage of the 7-day pass when i was initially checking out F45. Happy to be your gym buddy if that's what it's going to take to get you back in shape. It…read morewon't work to join as the location isn't as convenient as the Capitol Hill OrangeTheory, but here's my experience. 1) Check-In: You need a code to get into the basement, but luckily a member walked in at the same time and let me in. The coach introduced me to the workout and checked in on my throughout the 50 minutes. Many of the members were very friendly, making it a point to say hi and check on me as a first timer. 2) Workout: I know their workouts change, but the one I went to at 4:30pm on a Thursday in May involved five different stations- boxing, weights, jumping, kettle balls, and a shuffle run. You line up behind a color dot based on the size of the weights you want to work with. For this workout, we went around the room six times- two starting with easier weights, two on medium, and two heavy. We spent 40 seconds at each station with 20 seconds to transition. It was a great workout and it kept my heart rate up. 3) Coach: She knew her workout and was super friendly and approachable. 4) Space: There's cubbies to keep your belongings, a drinking fountain, and restrooms. If you're looking for a community-minded gym with great coaches, I recommend MABabolic.

I then joined a few months later with a Black Friday deal as a way to add some variety to my lifting routine. I've done group classes like Elevate and Orange Theory and really prefer the MAD programming. I love that everyone is able to do the same workout but work at their own strength levels. The programming also isn't as intimidating as CrossFit or Olympic lifting. There's also a solid variety of dumbbell and kettlebell work mixed in with a variety of cardio machines to work on endurance. The class is fairly fast paced (in a good way) and before you know it you've completed a total body workout. I generally go in the evenings 2-3 days a week and on the weekend . I've had a chance to take classes with most of the coaches. My favorite coaches (and Carol! ) are the ones who give a gentle reminder of when it's appropriate to go up in weights for the day. I've been going to MAD for a little over six months and I'm happy to bring guests with me anytime I can because I love the workouts and members at H Street. I also love that Carol is so welcoming and takes the time to get to know members. Her attention to new and old members has gone a long way, several friends I've brought with me have commented on how personable she is. The gym is a good size, well set up, and the format does all the thinking for you -- the screens walk you through every movement so you just focus on working hard. The workouts are 45 minutes, which sounds short until you're in the middle of one. Every class is different so it never gets stale. I actually look forward to going, which is not something I ever said about a gym before. I've been to a couple of F45 locations and this one stands out. The cooldown is a little slower and more thorough than other spots I've tried, which I really appreciate -- I'm terrible at stretching on my own. If you're an animal lover, Coach Meghan brings her dog to class. Very friendly, very cute, and apparently also supervising. Now for Coach Meghan -- she's the best. From the start she made sure I felt welcome and comfortable before getting going, and was completely approachable whenever I needed help. Her form corrections and workout adaptations were genuinely useful, not just generic cues. She also slows things down when introducing movements so you actually understand what you're doing before you do it. And fair warning -- she's funny. I'm partly blaming her for how out of breath I was because she kept making me laugh mid-workout. Highly recommend! I would be a regular, but live too far away. He helped everyone there use the proper form when doing dead lifts, upright rows, and the other exercises, he had his eyes on everyone. We started with very smart warm up routine, which I don't do enough of when I work out in my own way, so it was eye opening and very helpful learning experience that I walked away with. Everything we did there was about working multiple muscle groups, and we alternated between weights and cardio exercises, so we got a very good workout, much better than when we go to the gym and do our own thing. The atmosphere was friendly, warm, and inviting. The class was fast paced but not confusing, the way some places are, like (to me) Orange Theory. We recommend this place and will return.

I had just accepted that I was not an "exercise" person. I don't remember the catalyst for reaching out to Amy at CenterPointe three years ago -- I think I had gained some weight and figured I would try moving my body. I started with some one-on-one sessions and eventually added some of the easier classes that CenterPointe offers. From the very beginning, Amy MET ME WHERE I WAS. She is warm and funny and caring. She taught me about MY body. About how my muscles work and how doing different stretches, lifts, exercises are supposed to feel in my body. She taught me where my hamstrings are. They and my RtB classmates were super welcoming, supportive, and encouraging. Programming-wise, RtB is similar to CrossFit. Every workout starts with a warm-up that is related to the day's main workout. The main workout is usually a compound lift plus conditioning/accessory work, intense conditioning work, or some kind of running/sprinting. The coaches make sure to work with your level--what they ask you to do is adjusted for whether you have been doing heavy back squats for years or can't squat to parallel, whether you can do five unassisted pull-ups in a row or are working up to assisted pull-ups through inverted rows. They also happily work around whatever injury you may have, coming up with alternative exercises that avoid stressing the injury. And they keep track of your progressions on various exercises and recommend how much weight to lift/how deep to move, so you don't have to guess what you should be doing. They can do this because class sizes are capped at around 8 people. It's as much attention as you might want from a one-on-one personal trainer, but much, much more affordable if you work out frequently. In the three months that I had the pleasure of attending RtB, I did an unassisted pull-up for the first time in my life and vastly improved my form for both Olympic lifts (with which I had little prior experience) and powerlifting lifts (with which I had years of prior experience). I was having trouble progressing beyond intermediate strength standards because my form was off, and RtB has so noticeably improved my form that I look forward to seeing what I can do in the upcoming year. Whether you have little experience with exercise and don't know where to start, or have been exercising for a while but are feeling stuck, CenterPointe RtB has the individualized, attentive coaching and focus on form that you need!

I immediately booked a DEXA at their DC location in November 2020 and I really appreciated how in depth Kris explained the DEXA. He suggested I book another one in 3 months. I booked one in February 2021 and it was really interesting to see how I was able to adjust the asymmetry and lose body fat while adding lean muscle. I can't wait to see the progress on my next DEXA in a couple months! I highly recommend Bodymass - they're extremely knowledgeable and very professional!

I tried many boutique fitness providers in DC, all a good workout, but none giving me the results I was looking for. Bodymass finally delivered. Bodymass is no-frills, straight-up strength training. If you want to improve your technique and strength in all aspects of lifting, this is the place for you. I've never been to a gym that was more focused on technique, form, and mobility, before strength. They set you up for success in order to build strength safely and sustainably. I have a newfound appreciation for mobility and form which I will carry with me regardless of my fitness routine. Prior to covid, the small group format of 10 or less members allowed for personal attention from coaches in every class. They provide iPads during class so you can track your progress week-to-week (which I loved!). The atmosphere was welcoming to all body types and strength and experience levels (serious lifters and novices alike). I was new to lifting, and the staff, especially the owner Kris and Virginia, made me feel exceptionally comfortable and at-home. I saw this time and time again with other new (and existing) members. Kris and Virginia's positivity and enthusiasm for the sport was completely infectious, encouraging you to try your best and hardest in their presence. During quarantine, their virtual at-home workouts kept me sane and active, and I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for a virtual program. Due to covid, I could no longer afford their semi-private in-person training (which went up in price due to reduced class sizes, and are currently on pause except for private sessions, I believe), but I look forward to returning when standard classes commence.
