With the help of these wonderful ladies at Ascend I'm now able to climb to the top!

To say that I enjoy my aerial silks classes is an understatement. This class an intense workout and extremely fun. I feel accomplished every single time I leave and the teachers really put time and effort into helping all of their students improve and motivate us to keep trying. I would 100% recommend this class for anyone.

My daughter did two private lesson while we were in town. The teacher was incredible! Knowledgeable, fun, safety & technique first. It was exactly what we were looking for, if we lived closer we would go every week. Also amid COVID they took all precautions and kept us safe. Thank you!

I've been coming here for a couple of weeks now and I love it! I found my new hobby :D It was by chance that I found an aerial silks class offered in a kick boxing studio but lucky I did because they are one of the most affordable classes in the bay area and it's closer to southbay area and that's where I'm from. $120 gets you 10 sessions which seemed expensive but really it's pretty reasonable because I haven't found another class that's around that same price. The place is not that big and most of the gym is occupied with all the kickboxing equipment but there's still more than enough space for the aerial silks class. They have 3 silks at a time usually for class. I admit that at first, I thought how is 3 silks going to be enough for a class of 11? But I found out that sharing the silks was a good thing because it gave me a much needed break in between all the climbing and posing you do. It really tires you out! My instructor, Elizabeth, has been awesome with helping us go our own pace in learning the material. She usually has to divvy up her time between all the beginners, intermediate, and advanced people and she does a great job giving enough attention to all the groups in our class. I feel like the staff in this place are generally friendly and helpful so that's great! I'm looking forward to trying out some of the other classes and continuing the aerial silk series. From what I know, drop-ins are generally harder to do for the aerial silks class because you have double check with instructor if there is space or not. I also recommend wearing shirts with sleeves and tights, pants, capris, etc.. as opposed to shorts because then you won't have to suffer through rope burn. The only downside to this place is the parking situation. It's located right off the ramp for brittan avenue if you're coming from the north so it's risky to make that right turn into the parking lot if you're just coming off the ramp but there's is parking just around the corner, you just have to walk a little.

I started taking aerial silks here a year ago, and it quickly has become my second home. The classes are very reasonably priced and the location is really easy to get to since it's right off the freeway. There are four silks that you share with your classmates. I think the biggest class I've been in has 10 students, so normally 2-3 people per silk. Personally, I like sharing because having rest time between moves is important. It also helps review the information when you work in partnerships. I didn't know anyone when I started, and now it feels like I know everyone! One thing I hear from most people is that they aren't strong enough. It will come. The students are all ages, shapes and sizes. I'm in my forties and never thought I'd be able to dance in the sky, let alone do a pull up. As you build strength , you would be surprised how much you can do in the mean time. The teachers and fellow students are very supportive. I'm currently in classes with both Colleen and Danny. I've learned so much from both of them. I love that they are very focused on safety and conditioning to create good habits. There isn't any pressure to try moves that you aren't comfortable with. They are good at giving modifications to work on instead. I've also taken workshops with Janelle and Connie, who are also fantastic. These are great because they have a narrow focus to work on specific skills. They have added occasional student showcases. It's great to have something to work towards and to have the opportunity to perform in a safe and supportive space for friends and family. Communication is also a strength (thank you, Tammy!) Classes are posted to the website, and are also posted to Facebook, and sent by email. If you have any problems with registration or questions, Tammy, the GM, takes care of you personally. She's been my hero on more than one occasion! Love this place. Can you tell?

They offer both Pole and Aerial classes, each with their own vibe and energy. Pole classes are held in Suite N and tend to have a bolder, more expressive atmosphere. Aerial classes are in Suite O and are usually calmer and more focused on flow and form. Make sure you head to the correct suite depending on your class. When you arrive, just check in with the instructor, or follow the lead of others in the room. Some instructors like to check everyone in personally, while others are more casual about it. It's a no-shoes kind of space. For Aerial, you're usually barefoot or in socks. For Pole, you're either barefoot or in heels depending on the class. I've taken a variety of classes over the years, but these days I'm more focused on Aerial. I especially want to shout out KC, who is my favorite instructor. She's clear, encouraging, and just a great teacher overall. Her classes are the perfect mix of supportive and challenging, and I always leave feeling stronger and more confident. I've been a student since the studio was called Poletential, back when it was under different ownership. It's been great to see the space evolve while still staying a welcoming and empowering place to train.

We were both complete beginners to trapeze so it was going to be an experience to start. I think overall it was very interesting and the other people who were in the class were definitely expert level including our instructor who was absolutely phenomenal in perfecting his craft. I think there were a few drawbacks that would prevent us from coming back here which include: 1) The instructor got quite frustrated/visibly upset at us when I fell after trying to balance myself. It was a bit odd because as beginners, we're there to learn, make mistakes and build confidence especially in an environment completely new for the both of us. We felt like it was unprofessional side and both def felt discouraged even though we laughed it off in person. We are both grew up in the dance community, so we know how toxic it can be to have teachers like this who react out of frustration vs support but we're not children anymore who are actively trying to hurt ourselves. I think it's entirely possible for this place to enforce safety without snapping at or shaming students. 2) This place COVID vaxx checks still. My friend and I have no issue with showing this as we're we've both got this done plus boosters since the start of the pandemic. It's a business' respective choice to ask for this 100% but it did feel a little outdated given it's the Summer of 2025 and we both haven't had to show proof of this in over 3 years. I'm still glad we tried this together and though we will likely never come back, I hope future classes foster a more positive and welcoming tone, especially for first-timers!

Having previously taken an initial trial class, I consulted your staff and later purchased a 1-week trial package online. The system allowed the transaction, and I scheduled three classes. At no point during my consultation or the online checkout process was I informed that this purchase was invalid. After attending one class, I contacted the assistant to upgrade to a 10-class package. Instead of facilitating this, the assistant informed me that I was ineligible for the weekly trial, abruptly canceled my remaining sessions, and demanded I pay the full standard rate for the single class attended. It is highly unprofessional to penalize a customer for a system loophole and staff oversight, especially when I was actively trying to purchase a long-term plan. I request a review of this matter and a fair resolution.

Lo and behold, Tammy, the manager, was super welcoming and friendly. She gave us some suggestions and convinced me to try it out as well. Have to say, I've take a few classes and I am hooked. Classes always start with warm ups and stretches, kickboxing at the bags and with partners, and then ends with stretches. I have mostly taken classes from Erik and Erika, father daughter duo. They give you a WORK OUT. My heart rate is always at least 150 and I'm dripping sweat every time I do it. The instructors also take the time to walk through the class and check up on everyone, ensuring the form is correct. There's a lot of great vibes going around and I've been given tips from more experienced students. This is the perfect gym environment for my wife who was initially intimidated. She's been going to classes by herself and I'm glad she's found her own motivation. I have IMPACT to thank for giving us that safe space to try and improve at our own comfortable pace. I highly suggest IMPACT for anyone looking for a chill, but intense (if that makes sense), gym environment with positive, motivating instructors that actually care about you.

Let me count the ways how much I miss and love Equinox…read more Yes, I know--it's a high-end gym. But you truly get what you pay for. I was a member of this location for over a decade, and since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I can honestly say there is nothing quite like it. The nearest one to me now is in Atlanta, and I still miss the San Mateo club regularly. This location has everything you could possibly want in a fitness facility--and then some. The Fitness Floor Downstairs is a beautifully air-conditioned workout space designed for people who are serious about exercising. No distractions, no crowds hovering by the windows--just a clean, focused environment. You'll find: * Full weight training equipment * Recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills * Dedicated spin, Pilates, TRX, and group fitness studios * A large open stretching area with foam rollers * Cold, filtered water stations throughout * Staff available for spotting if you're training solo It's efficient, professional, and thoughtfully designed. Locker Rooms & Amenities The locker rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a gym. They are consistently spotless and fully stocked with: * Plush towel service * Spacious showers with teak benches * Steam rooms infused with eucalyptus * Complimentary razors, Q-tips, and personal care items * Premium Kiehl's products It's luxurious, yes--but also incredibly practical. You can comfortably get ready for work, dinner, or travel without feeling rushed. The Rooftop Pool One of the standout features is the heated rooftop pool. It has multiple lap lanes, cabanas, and water aerobics equipment, and it truly feels like a mini country club in the middle of downtown San Mateo. The pool is heated year-round, which means you can swim in any season--something you quickly get spoiled by. They even provide sunscreen from Supergoop!, along with full towel service. It's those little details that make the experience feel elevated. Classes, Spa & Services The class offerings are extensive and easy to manage through the app. Signing in is seamless--just scan your phone and go. Highlights include: * Yoga in a beautiful bamboo studio with HEPA filtration and ceiling fans * Pilates (available as private, duo, or small-group sessions) * A full-service spa on the upper level * A juice bar and retail shop featuring premium fitness apparel Everything feels intentional, polished, and well-maintained. Location & Convenience The club is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo, making it incredibly walkable. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and cafés nearby, including one of my favorite bakeries and specialty markets. Parking is also surprisingly easy for a downtown location: * Two-hour validation * Surface lot, garage, and rooftop parking options That convenience makes a big difference in daily use. Value & Membership Yes, membership can be expensive. However, many employers offer corporate discounts, which can make the cost more manageable. In my case, the value absolutely justified the price because I used the facility regularly and took advantage of the amenities. Even when I relocated, canceling my membership was straightforward and professional--no pressure, no hassle. Bottom Line Equinox San Mateo set the standard for what a fitness club should be: clean, thoughtfully designed, service-oriented, and genuinely enjoyable to use. If I ever move to another city with an Equinox, I will join again without hesitation. Because at the end of the day-- life is short, and you should live well.

I am extremely disappointed with how this gymnastics facility handled my daughter's injury…read more My 6-year-old daughter injured her neck during a forward roll in the morning. Despite the injury involving her neck, no one contacted us to inform us that an incident had occurred. We only learned about it at pickup around 3:30 PM, when we noticed her neck was significantly swollen and she was in pain. We then took her to the ER, where doctors spent over 7 hours evaluating her to rule out a spinal injury. We did not get home until 3:00 AM. Thankfully, it was not a more serious injury, but the situation could have been much worse. The following day, I met with the facility to understand why we were never notified. The explanations I received were concerning. The front desk staff could not provide a clear account of what happened because different instructors worked the morning and afternoon shifts. It appeared there was little communication or proper handoff between staff members. I was surprised by how disorganized the operation seemed. I was told that staff did not re-evaluate my daughter's condition in the afternoon because she said she was "fine." She is only 6 years old. Children are not always able to accurately assess or communicate the severity of an injury, especially a neck injury. It is the responsibility of trained staff to monitor the situation and notify parents when an injury occurs. When the owner, Danielle, later joined the conversation, she stated that her staff "did exactly what they were supposed to do" and that this had been their protocol for 15 years. She also said they would pay closer attention to my daughter next time. Unfortunately, that completely misses the point. This is not just about my daughter--it is about the safety of every child in their care. Any neck injury should be treated seriously, and parents should be informed immediately. What disappointed me most was not only the lack of communication, but also the lack of accountability. Rather than acknowledging that improvements could be made, management defended a process that failed to notify parents of a potentially serious injury. As a parent, I can no longer trust this facility with my child's safety. I would strongly encourage other parents to carefully consider whether this is the level of communication and care they expect when leaving their children in someone else's supervision.
