Great theater in the heart of Redwood City! Took the train from San Jose and arrived in half hour. Station is two small blocks from downtown. Many restaurants, coffe shops and a few bars walking distance. The theater even sells alcoholic drinks that you can enjoy at your seat while watching the show! I went for a Mariachi concert. Sat in the balcony. If you are not tall, either sit in lower balcony or after 5th row of upper balcony. There is a pony wall that can obstruct your view. read more

Rock n Roll will never die! Saw my favorite band Y&T for like the 13th time here and had a great time! Old school venue with a real a cool old school feel! I felt like I was in the 80s hair metal era watching them play at their height! Had killer seats in the front row on the balcony and saw all the action right up close! Conveniently located a block from Caltrain and surrounded by a variety of bars and restaurants, this venue was an unexpected pleasure. Plenty of room to stand or sit. The sound mix was best seated in the center of the room. I didn't go to the 2nd floor. The concession stand had reasonably priced goods, of which I didn't buy any. I was surprised by the lack of security. I walked right in with only a scan of my ticket. The main hall is nice, but drab. It's bathed in beige and could really use a paint job or something to update its appearance. I will definitely be spending more time at the Fox Theater and Redwood City in general. I really enjoyed this venue. The music was amazing. I loved all the freestyle musicians. There is tons of room in this place with an upper area where you get a great view but can be away from the crowds downstairs. Everyone was dancing on the dance floor and generally having a great time. The bartender was friendly and the drinks were about average in their pricing. The overall atmosphere here is wonderful. I've had problems placing orders on their website using my iPad. The website is old and buggy. It doesn't take Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal. I'm also concerned how safe it is for my credit card. The order system refuses to place my latest order because I didn't check if I want insurance. However, there's no field to check. I asked my wife to double check my screen and she couldn't find the field either. See image attached. There's no customer service page. It looks like you can only call them when the box office is open. FYI... if you had a customer service feedback function, I would have sent this feedback to you and not on yelp. We love this place and feel bad that they are loosing business due to not keeping up with modern, safe, secure website technology. Fox Theatre in Redwood City is beautiful! Ernie was so kind and professional. I then met Joey, who is PHENOMINAL! They really scored big time when they hired Joey!! He is so friendly, generous, thoughtful, and totally made our time at the Fox Theatre one my fiance and I will never forget! All of the decor is original, even down to the water fountain in the lobby downstairs. The chandeliers were big brass art sculptures from the ceiling, surrounded buy handpainted scenery on both sides of the walls. The 2 staircases frame the room as you walk in the lobby! It is so grand! I absolutely love all of the details in this theatre, the outside Marque is all original, and when the sign is all lit up at night, its truly nostalgic and breathtaking! Joey is incredible. He had so much knowledge of the theatre and really fun stories to share. Joey went above and beyond for us and I couldn't be happier with our experience at the Fox Theatre. He does his job with so much heart and respect for the establishment. You can tell he loves his job and takes pride in all the attention to great detail. All of the barbacks and coworkers also exuberated the vibe that they loved their job and loved working there too! When we checked out the Fox Club (bar next door) a regular performer of the venue also greeted Joey with a hug and smile. Everyone was so friendly and so kind. Old time Theater with no updates except the bathrooms, which is a good thing. However, a manager was showing a girl how to clean in there, but they both walked out, and neither of them wiped down the sink counter. There is nothing worse than to lean over to put on your lipstick and get some other persons drippings on your expensive dress! Nice concessions stand, beautiful stairways to balcony. Horrible seats! The entire row had to stand up and exit in order to be seated. Never mind if you had to go tinkle. It's quite nostalgic but not ergonomic or comfortable. If you have average sized shoulders, get an end seat. There is no elbow room for anyone else. We attended the Motown Review Show. What a great show. They don't have people have checking tickets through the venue so people will be blocking your seat in the aisles. The headliner barely had anytime so it was a waste of my time. Keep in mind it is NOT a smoke free venue. I may be stuck up in this instance but to each their own. read more

First and foremost one has to appreciate the old history of this theatre before you go and expect cup holders and leg room. Not going to happen. Its old atmosphere has takes me right to an old era as I would expect listening to "Neil Diamond". The crowd matched the old charm and to see people to their feet was epic. The restrooms are the cleanest I've seen in a public place in years. Won't mention any names. The bar closes early so don't think you're getting drinks at an intermission or anytime in between. Going in is your only chance. Doing your homework prior is the key to find the very close parking garage for $7.50 it's worth every cent. Plenty of places to grab a bite prior to any event. Going back again tomorrow night for the Beatles and Stones. Can hardly wait! The seats are packed so near each other for legroom that it makes it hard to get out without the rest of those seated in the row getting out too! Very much like airline seats but less comfortable. Beautiful theatre and not a bad view in the house. Great sound. Great lighting. Seats are a bit cramped and could use an upgrade. We were able to take cocktails inside for Eddie Izzard but I'm not sure if that's the norm. The bartender also tipped us off that doubles were only a few dollars more so, yes...of course. The only downside was the absolutely miserable woman taking tickets at the door. She was loudly barking at everyone in such an exasperated, huffy, hateful tone of voice it was like she wanted us all to die a horrible death. YEESH. We were at the balcony and it was hard to hear everything. I just couldn't see the point of staying if we're always squinting trying to hear Rob . Fox needs to hire an engineer for speaker placement or just install two concert speakers in the back. Not a good experience for a lot of people actually. read more

I've been to a few events at Fox Theatre. The building is old - get that. The acoustics are good. However, the seats are ridiculously tight. I'm 5'7" and my knees were right up against the chair in front of me. Also, the signage could be better. People who don't attend events often had a very difficult time trying to locate row and seat numbers. read more

This was my first time at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, I must say I was very impressed with the staff, from the ticket takers at the door to the ushers. Everyone was smiling and they all ended with "enjoy the show", they were very efficient with the entire process. I was a little concerned when we saw the line outside to get in, it stretched around the corner, but once it started moving it went fast giving us time to people watch. Tim Flanney and the Lunatic Fringe put on a great show. Fox Theater has the acoustics, sound system, sight lines, and comfortable seats to make an enjoyable evening. At 6' 1" I had no problem with seating comfort. During the VIP Meet-and-Greet before the show and during the performance, I had several occasions to talk to staff members, everyone was pleasant and professional. Two hours is a bit of a drive but, for the right act, I will gladly make the drive to the Fox Theater. read more

Music Man with Crystal was fun! Thanks to Yelp and Abby! It was an easy way to get the free tix last night. The will call was well marked and was well organized. Didn't realize it was theater week for RWC and was very surprised to learn that parking was going to be a slight problem. The drive to RWC from san jose wasn't bad at all. The theater itself is centrally located in downtown RWC. Imposing looking even before you walk inside. I would say this venue is much more lively. I like the easy access to the rest rooms from the theater. No line- never full and just outside the double door. Great sound system. Art loving patrons of the fox theater are all over the place. Great visibility anywhere you sit IMHO. So don't fret if you end up far behind and to the corner like we did. Chairs were fairly confortable and clean. Old world charm at it's best! read more

Before I decided to go for the tickets, I had to make sure my Daughter won't be w/ me because I know this is something she might not enjoy/appreciate just yet. Yup, she was scheduled to celebrate her 7th birthday at Disneyland w/ my Aunt and her counterpart so I clicked and was hoping to score 2 tickets. Some days later.. excited I got an email confirmation that I DID score 2 tickets to see Music Man. I have never been to a play or a musical before; school performances when I was a child simply does not count. I started to pull up information here and there on this performance and was in awe to find that this particular musical has won several award nominations! Now the hard part.. get a date. I knew in mind just who to ask. I asked Dharam and to my surprise he agreed to attend w/ me and what was cute was that he asked what kind of event was this, if we had to get tickets, where was this event, and what he should wear. I planned on arriving early to a) beat traffic, b) get a decent spot for parking, and c) treat him to dinner since it was my turn BUT to my surprise not only did he looked very handsome in his regular jeans and a nice black-button top, he smelled so nice too.. and earlier in the day he made us both sandwiches for dinner.. *hearts* We arrived to Will-Call for our tickets; a big THANKS to Yelp!! The line was getting long then staff started 2 lines.. one for A-L and one for M-Z. I was all excited and even yelled out, "Yes!" when I was up for the M-Z line because nobody was in it. I took a picture of my tickets and proceeded to enter the theater. As we walked in I noticed a very inviting and elegant staircase (one on each side) going up to a balcony-lookalike.. very intimate! We then walked towards our row and to our seats. The performance started 14 minutes late but that was OK since my head was on Dharam's shoulders the entire time and at times he would ask me for a neck massage. I didn't get the gist of it at first.. after about 2 sets then I began to tie the stories, the characters together and by that time I was waiting anxiously to see what was going to happen. In the musical they mentioned: ice cream so Dharam was fixated on that plus at intermission, some lady was eating an ice cream bar. He began to salivate, I can tell. I offered to get him one or anything for that matter but he declined.. The most memorable scene to me was when the lady expressed jealousy that the swindler had a girl in every town he scammed. This musical is basically a chick flick to me so I very much enjoyed it. The BEST moment however, was when the song, "Shipoopi" was being sung because it sounded so familiar.. then I remembered that one episode of Family Guy.. when Peter played for the Patriots, haha. I mentioned that to Dharam when I realized then we both laughed. He exclaimed, "Is that why this song sounds so familiar?" Hahaha.. yes, I love Family Guy and so does he. At the end of the musical.. SMHS's (assuming San Mateo High School) band in their uniforms came marching in, playing whatever song it was but I have to admit.. it was the perfect ending to a great musical.. a great first experience to this sort of thing w/ a guy that seemed to glance over at me every time I smiled or laughed at the scenes. Props to the characters and for the quickness in scene changing. Props to Yelp for the tickets.. I am thankful to have scored the tickets. Props to Yelp for Dharam.. that's how we met. Props to Fox Theatre for a very good show although I wish the seats had more room so that people can get in and out of the aisle w/o having everyone stand up. read more

Given the limited music venues in the Peninsula, this one is fairly outstanding. All year round inside this theater features different music artists playing a variety of Genre from Santana to Journey to true Jazz with jam sessions. Posted line-ups are calendared in advance and found on line and posted in the windows of the place. In between you can sneak a peek into the place and see the stage, bar, sweep upward to the 2nd level where patrons look down at center stage. You can dance too! There are days when the place has a DJ. Super fun and mature crowd that don't take (word starts with a C and ends with a P or that table game where one rolls the dice). Located at the RWC plaza, to get there you can hop on the train, drive and park (parking plentiful, several lots and two garages with validation and street parking) or rideshare. And during summertime when people gather and fill the plaza for the music festivals take refuge inside here! Tables and chairs with wine and cheese platters among the crowd is fun but been there done that so this place is perfect for those opting out of the heat! Enjoy the coolness as opposed to the blaring sun. Quench ice cold beer or VERY STRONG drinks from the bar instead of warm beer from ice melted cooler. Still see and hear the band perfectly from afar, instead of fighting your way through the crowd. read more

Beautiful theater located in the center of the Peninsula. I'm so happy that I finally found a show that I'd like to watch. Going to minus 1 star because I firmly believe this theater should bring big concert artist to it's table, like the Fox Theater in Oakland. We were so lucky to watch the Hip Hop Nutcracker. Wow! Significant other suggested we watch The Nutcracker this year. Tickets were easy to purchase online. The email stated the tickets needed to be physically printed, but we forgot and were allowed in anyways. The sketchy part was that no one checked or scanned our tickets. All they said was, "As long as you know your seats you can go in." So in we went... The theatre is a little run down, but it was quaint. They sell popcorn and drinks in the lobby. A long overdue review. I was fortunate to get complimentary tickets earlier this year for "The Music Man" As long as I've lived in the Bay Area, I rarely visit Redwood City. On the day of the show there was a lot of local buzz going on around the area. It was like a downtown fair of some sort. The atmosphere was positive and lively. The theatre was located right smack in the middle of the Frenzy. The theater had a classic vibe from the outside and interior design. It is still appreciated because it sets the mood for Broadway type plays and shows. Our seating was upstairs, and it wasn't bad. Of course the closer the better, but I can't complain. The seats were comfortable. Nothing special, but I didn't complain the entire time. Of course what's important too is the acoustics. I HATE NOT HEARING WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING. A song, a movie, a play, whatever. Sometimes the acoustics are so off the music is overpowering the speech that someone is doing. It was perfect here at Fox Theatre, the music was vibrant, but it did not overpower the actors speaking and they were nice and clear. Lighting was also up to par. In conclusion, my first experience here was great. I forgot to mention the staff was friendly as well. It's a decent size theater. It looks smaller on the outside than it is. So if you have a play/show to watch here, it is a great venue and great location! read more

I went to Fox Theatre for the first time to watch Next to Normal with my boyfriend. We took Caltrain down from San Francisco, and I love that the venue is just a few minutes away. It's a super old-fashioned theater, but that didn't affect my ability to quickly pick up our tickets at Will Call. The staff seemed nice, not particularly memorable. I heard that the seat rows are packed close together, but I'm glad we didn't experience that since we had front row seats. Woohoo! The seats themselves, however, were hard and uncomfortable. Like Papa Bear's bed in Goldilocks. Anyways, I don't really have much else to say about the theater. Fortunately I was so captivated by the musical that I didn't notice anything else positive or negative. I'd be okay with coming back here again, just to see Broadway shows I'm interested in. There are some restaurants nearby, which is another huge perk of Fox Theatre. Close to transit and in the heart of downtown. Perfect for people like us who live in San Francisco and don't have cars. read more

Ok little bit of a cheat on this one...we were able to score some yelp tickets to the New Year's Eve celebration party 2019-2020! We've never been to location before but we're very excited. There's some on street metered parking in the area that's free after 7pm. We got dressed up in 80's garb as we heard the band would be playing 80's songs! We picked up our tickets at will call through a door I never saw. Waited in line in the cold till the venue opened. We had free reign of the balcony seating and downstairs m. We didn't reserve a vip table on the floor. Small Ish dance floor and expensive drinks but once the band came on it was amazing. We had such a good time singing along, dancing and ringing in the new year. Not knowing what this year would hold for us all. Blissfully unaware we had a great time! read more

I'd skip the Telegraph Room that they market as a private room to enjoy cocktails and snacks for an extra price while waiting to enter the theater. Catered snacks are really poor quality and not worth the extra price. Better to hang out at a nearby bar with decent food and a more expansive bar. read more

This was our first time here and we wanted a fun thing to do on a Sunday. So we went here and saw Beauty and The Beast. Got our tickets through Today's Tix and picked them up at Will Call. So we get inside... That's fine. Our seating was in the Balcony, upper level. Unfortunately the seating was extremely uncomfortable. If you are of a certain weight or a certain height, you're not going to like coming here because you won't fit in the seat. I had this this problem and brought it to the managements attention. They were willing to make accommodations for me to make the seating situation more comfortable by attempting if necessary to relocate us to another area of the theater after the show started. We were also offered the choice to sit in any other seat in the upper level that was not taken. We finally found a area that allowed me to sit at the end for easy access to get in and out... Unfortunately, both of us fell on accident one time trying to get up the stairs. We should have brought our canes with us but all in all it was a good experience. Just slightly annoyed by the seating situation for being tall and a bit on the "healthy" side if you know what I mean. read more

What a lovely venue! After years of hearing about the Fox, I'm so glad I could come here for the Yelp Elite event to see Gypsy. They have concession stands with food and a full bar, lots of comfy seats and each seat had a drink holder. Love that! The street parking was challenging, but one of the ushers told me I could have parked under the movie theatre across the street - thousands of spaces. Duh. I can't wait to come back for another event. It was fabulous! read more
