My review is solely based on the food and drink I had. I went to this coffee shop that was a little further away than one closer (coming from Rye), and I decided to go here vs the local coffee shop in downtown Rye based on reviews. I ordered a matcha latte, blueberry muffin, and egg bites. The matcha latte was awful. Based on reviews I read, a few mention how good it is, but mine pretty much tasted like a hot milk drink, barely any matcha. I am a matcha connoisseur and have had very very good matcha, and I am pretty picky. If this is you at all, then I suggest to skip. It's just not good. I ended up tossing it The egg bites- they were $11, and they were Kirkland Signature brand. Wish I didn't see that. They were fine, but $11 is pretty much robbery. Also, they were still cold when I bit into it :(. If all you need to do is heat it, then heat them thoroughly?.. The blueberry muffin was fine. According to another review, they are sourced from Balthazar. Cannot confirm or deny. Service was friendly, and the shop itself is cute. Maybe the coffee here is better? I'm visiting the area for a few days, and I was looking for a place to get some work done. This was fairly close to where I needed to be a little later, and the reviews made it sound appealing. Those positive reviews were right! The cafe is super cute, with a number of outdoor tables (too cold for my LA blood right now) and a variety of indoor seating ranging from counters where you can stand to comfy chairs and a large communal table. I went for one of the counters (kind of my jam, because I like to switch between sitting and standing), where I also found an outlet (yay!). Service was super friendly (the owners were behind the counter, and you can tell they care), and unlike my less successful attempt yesterday (a spot in White Plains), here they could serve my mocha in an actual mug. The mocha itself was solid--I still wouldn't mind a little latte art, but everybody needs something to which to aspire in the future. I was tempted by the inviting-looking pastries, which are artfully arranged on the counter, but I didn't want to sugar-crash before I had to teach a workshop, so I abstained. Music selections were on point--added a couple to my playlist--and at the right volume, which I always tell my home cafes in LA should be "energizing but not aggressive." I had an excellent experience at The Laughing Horse thanks to Johnny and Christian. They were incredibly respectful, welcoming, and professional from start to finish. They treated everyone with kindness, made sure we were comfortable, and went out of their way to provide outstanding service. I really wanted to like this place. I've visited a few times, it's a great location, it seems like a warm community spot- but simply based on a business that sells expensive coffee drinks, it just doesn't impress. There's nothing special about the coffee, and most times it was just flat out bland. They have such a great setup and yet there's basically no actual barista skill at play- the drinks I've gotten tasting like they came out of some automatic machine. What a cute shop. I love the decor and touches. There are also lots of different seating options, which I always appreciate. It looks like there's a late night scene here, too, since there are alcohol options. Fun! I got the everything croissant, which was stuffed with cream cheese. Delicious! Good combination of flavors and flaky goodness. I wasn't loving my flat white. It didn't have the creaminess I adore, and it was probably one of the most expensive ones I've ever gotten, as well. WILL NEVER GO BACK! Today around 10:50am, My boyfriend and I decided to try this new cafe after seeing its appealing pictures on Yelp, it seemed like an inviting atmosphere. However, our experience quickly took a turn for the worse. The first thing we noticed upon walking in was the music--very loud and, unfortunately, not in line with the cozy vibe we expected from a cafe. At one point, a rap song with offensive language(The B word) played, which was off-putting and disturbing. The service was another letdown. There was a staff member(wearing light color top and legging), who seemed distracted while helping a customer ahead of us. She walked away from us while we were looking at the menu to eat a snack behind the counter, which felt unprofessional. When it was finally our turn to order, she was still chewing, and we had to raise our voices over the loud music just to communicate our order. My boyfriend ordered a latte and a warm-up cookie to stay, along with a dessert to go. Unfortunately, the latte arrived in a to-go cup, despite us clearly ordering it to stay. We were also never informed when our cookie was ready; after waiting for nearly 15 minutes, we discovered it had been packed with our dessert for takeout. I didn't mean they have to have mugs or plates for dine-in customers, although I did see another customer drinking from a mug. If they didn't have them, shouldn't we have been informed when we were ordering? In addition, the staff member asked my boyfriend the size of his latte three times, which seemed unnecessary and confusing. Despite his clarification, she still gave us the latte in a wrong cup. As we were finishing our coffee, I asked for a small pastry bag for the leftover cookie, only to find her distracted on her phone. She didn't respond when I thanked her, and my boyfriend said have a good day to her, he was met with silence as she continued to focus on her phone, never even care to look at us, HOW RUDE! While the espresso in the latte was decent, the overall service was extremely disappointing. For sure, we won't be returning, so she can enjoy her snack and phone time at work without "disturbing". read more

This hip coffee shop brings a little bit of brooklyn to Westchester. It's bright and aesthetically pleasing. During my first visit I ordered a small matcha latte (almost $7.00) and was enticed by but did not try their balthazar bakery sourced bread and pastries. On my second visit, I ordered a raspberry cold brew iced tea (OMG!) and it was dare I say the best iced I have ever consumed. It was pinkish and tasted so much of fresh raspberry. I almost ordered another! I couldn't pass up the enormous house baked cookies. I got the double chochychip chocolate cookie and the oreo bomb. Both were decadently delicious! Great vibes, but too expensive for me to be a regular. Two pastries and a coffee cost $20. The $5 muffin was mass-produced from Morrison's, and the $8 hazelnut mocha was satisfactory but very sweet. I think their best item is the matcha latte, but it's $7. As the sign on the shop says, they open at 8 (but sometimes 7 or 9) and close at 4 (but sometimes later). Very strange and irregular hours. With that being said, this places coldbrew was mediocre at best and over priced compared to better places. But besides the coffee, was the service. We recently moved to westchester and have been trying out all the coffee shops and laughing horse is a rare find. The coffee / chai is great. I was really impressed that they also had solid nonalcoholic beer options. What we love it most for is *the vibes*. It's always lively, bright, lots of seating. And the owner is always there and treats everyone like they're already a friend. We liked it so much that we recommended it to a friend who ended up hosting their kids birthday party there. This is a gorgeous new coffee shop with a great selection of drinks and treats, ample seating and table space, a large outdoor patio that is dog friendly and a comfy couch area to hang out in. Super chill vibe and I love that they also host musicians on certain days. They have a ton of regular and also special-diet options (someone whining about no vegan options should note that almost every brownie I saw there came in vegan or was vegan). I wanted to like Laughing Horse. They have a nice space and a good bean that they serve. Those that operate the espresso machine are not very good at it. It's clear no one knows anything about dialing in or frothing milk. The cookies just felt like cookie dough - just under baked. Really impressed by this new coffee house, there's free 2 hour parking out front, a large patio that's dog friendly and tons of seating for sitting with friends or enjoying some relaxing alone time. The decor is really nice and relaxing and the staff were incredibly friendly. I did ask them about vegan baked goods and they said they do regularly carry them but had sold out faster than expected so they are planning to restock with more very soon. My chai latte with oat milk was delicious and I'm pretty picky about my drinks. Probably my new favorite coffee house in Westchester I will definitely be back very soon! So glad to have a new spot in town but a bit disappointed. Two coffees cost $13, additional one dollar charge for "fancy milk", almost 25% of the cost of the drink. And why? In this day and age "fancy milk" is the standard and definitely shouldn't be up charged. Also disappointed at the lack of reusable mugs. If I sit in a coffee shop I would expect to drink my coffee in a coffee mug. Website states "vegan options" but I did not see any. I think I will continue going to state of the art coffee where I don't have to pay extra for oat milk. read more

This is my go-to coffee spot. The owners and all of the staff are so welcoming, the vibe is comfortable, and I often work from the shop. I'm able to have a pastry for breakfast and an avocado toast for lunch. They've steadily expanded the menu since opening. I also love being able to support a small, locally owned business.
