Nestled in the quaint and friendly town of Bronxville lies Slave To The Grind, a coffee shop that is nowhere near as pretentious as it's neighboring shops and customer service focused beyond belief. The shop is small and regularly has a line (which some might tend to get annoyed about but...) -it's because the coffee is THAT good. The cafe has a few tables in the front area, a few more in the back of the shop and some quality bar seating throughout making it a place to chill with friends or do some homework/meetings on your remote days. The quality of the coffee at Slave has never let me down, from buying beans by the pound from an abundant variety to the fresh brews that also have quite an impressive variety each day, the place is tailored to coffee addicts. Similar to the "other" coffee shops, these baristas can make your very specific coffee drink and it will be right on and delicious. They know their coffee at Slave To The Grind. If you get the chance, try some of their incredible pastry selection, especially the scones. You will never leave disappointed after consuming one of those British belly bombs, designed perfectly to be consumed with a hot cup O' Joe, served with a smile. Some folks have rated Slave below 5 stars but, that is likely because they are cranky, wannabe-coffee-aficionados who believe all coffee shops cannot turn over their inventory without having to provide "sell by" dates and paint pretty pictures all over the bean dispensers so they are entertained. They probably judge books by their covers and walk their cats around on leashes too... You be the judge! Slave to the Grind seems to be essential about the coffee and more about the experience. It's clearly a longtime Bronxville staple with a loyal following. The staff is welcoming and attentive, the space looks like it is always buzzing, and really gives you the feel of this is THE coffee shop in town. Where it falls short is in the cup. The coffee itself lacked freshness and the walls were lined with coffee beans that looked as if they had been sitting there for years with no clear dates to validate their freshness. There's plenty of choice on paper, but without roast dates or origin details, it's hard to know what you're getting--and the flavor reflects that. The brew came off dull, smoky, and overworked rather than expressive or balanced considering the advertised flavors and the price point. If you're looking for a comfortable place to sit, catch up with a friend, or soak in a classic small-town café vibe, this place delivers. But if great coffee is the goal, I'd head elsewhere. Love this place. The smell alone is cause to run towards this store. It's small but comfortable and definitely a staple in town. The workers are awesome, super patient and quick. Everything runs smooth here which I love! Especially when coffee is involved. I always get different recommendations and am never let down. Awesome ambiance, you get that coffee shop vibe. The employees are down to earth and efficient. It can get busy at peak times (early morning) but that's to be expected. They have a large assortment of pastries/baked goods and a couple GF options as well. My husband really likes the coffee here and usually gets a vanilla latte. I got a matcha there once and didn't love it...it was really heavy on the milk and not enough matcha in my opinion, but wasn't horrible. Just a regular coffee shop as far as I can tell. Not much seating so you can't fit a big group. The location is near the train station so you can grab a coffee on your way to catch the train on mornings or on your back from the city on evenings. I liked this place and will be back again. This is a cute little coffee shop in Bronxville. My friend was the one found it on social media so we decided to check it out. The line wasn't too long but there was a bit of a wait during the time we went. It seems to be a very popular place. They are known for their unique flavors coffee. I ordered Katastic (matcha latte) and my friend ordered mocha coffee. The Katastic tasted good. I wish they have more selection on pastries. I didn't see many that interested me. Stopped at this awesome coffee shop with a friend. We were looking for a spot to chat for a bit, and this place was perfect. We stayed for two hours and didn't feel rushed. There's lots to do in the area, as well. Worth noting, this cafe was super busy for most of the time we were there (early afternoon), and there wasn't much parking in the area. This part of Bronxville has a lot going on including local colleges, hospitals, restaurants and shops. The cafe itself is small with limited seating. But, the staff were friendly and the bathroom was clean. My friend got a latte and I got one of their iced teas. It was absolutely delicious and massive! Way better than Starbucks! This place was awesome. It is a great vibe and ambiance bit the employees make it that much better. They have limited seating, a few tables in the front and a few more in the back if you want to sit and work. There was also a long line when I entered but The two baristas kept the line moving quick. They had an expansive menu of drinks on the board and I'm sorry I didn't take a picture. They also had beans you could purchase and some pastry items. Back to my visit. I walked in to this shop having a sad day and left with a smile. Because my mood was off, I couldn't figure out what I wanted just that I needed coffee and I'm dairy free and the two baristas came together to figure out a drink for me that was great. And this is said as someone who has an espresso machine at home (both a pod and a traditional) and 90% makes my own drinks more- causing me to notice small flaws in purchased drinks ie looking at all those cheap and burnt beans at these chains. I'm not positive what they made me but I know it had toasted marshmallow syrup, oatmilk and one of the espressos. It was rich and bodied. I will definitely be back. read more

This was my first time going to this coffee shop and it will certainly be the last! I ordered a drink and the barista automatically assumed that I was with an African American guy who was also waiting on line. Mind you, there were no words transferred between the two of us. I feel like it was because the both of us are black and looking around, the majority of people who were in that place were white. I didn't think too much of it until I got my drink and I took one swallow and was chewing on what appeared to look like paper. I figured maybe I didn't remove all the paper from the straw and it accidentally got into the drink. When I took another swallow, there was more paper so I knew something was wrong. I proceeded to go back into the coffee shop and explained to another barista that paper was found in the drink. She acted shocked and didn't know how it got in there. She asked if I wanted another one so I just took her offer, but I ended up not drinking it because I didn't like the first drink experience. I will NEVER be returning! When I'm on this side of town, Slave To The Grind is always in my peripheral. Grind is split into 3 sections: front has a table or two, order counter with a few stools opposite that and the back with a sofa. The latter was (is) actually the coziest- but I'm not sure if that big sofa is still there or off limits because of COVID. That's just the beginning. Then there's the hot or cold beverage menu, muffins and whatnot. Their Chai and hot cocoa are muted in taste - but I think I'm more appreciative they even have those available as opposed to just coffee. This is a nice leading light in Bronxville. Coffee okay. Medium lavender latte (6/10): holy hell was this thing massive. Their medium is a large in most other places. Very standard latte, but depending on who's making it, you might get a taste of lavender or not at all. Good espresso taste, but whenever I get this drink it never tastes the same. Iced coconut coffee (4/10): this was kind of bad. So watery. The coconut aspect was good, just not great like it could've been since it was so dilute. Service is okay. They let just anyone cut you in line if they know the person, even if you've been standing there for 10 minutes. It looks like an older coffee shop with its dark wooden interior and gothic font. Decent seating inside for a long coffee shop. There is wifi to use! I go here because I don't know other coffee shops in town, so it's a bit of a last resort, but it's fine for a caffeine if that's what you need. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Absolutely horrific coffee, if you can call it that. I ordered a Boston cream donut iced coffee with "light" ice. Thank goodness I was paying attention bc my server filled the cup with full ice. I had to repeat myself twice to reduce the amount of ice being used. After taking my first sip, I realized that the lack of understanding was obviously to hide the completely watered down coffee I received. It was like I was drinking brown water with a shot of oat milk. Boston cream donut flavor?....where? Not this coffee. Completely disgusting and overpriced. Next, I also ordered a Dragons Nectar with NO ICE. Once again...completely watered down. Now I realize what this establishment does: cut corners, water down their product, and ridiculously overcharge. Disgusting...and I thought Dunkin Donuts was bad... The best coffeehouse I've been to in a while, hands down! More like a coffee bar. There are so many varieties and flavors from which to choose, whether you're a coffee addict, tea drinker, or matcha latte aficionado. The coffee is phenomenal! I had the decaf hazelnut and it was the best I've had around. There's a nice selection of pastries, sweets, and savories. A black and white cookie did it for me. Seating inside is a bit limited to along the side and back walls and to the very front of the store. (Remember when I said coffee bar? It really resembles and feels like a bar inside!) But there's still enough space to sit and enjoy whatever caffeinated or decaffeinated goodness you choose to imbibe. The barista who took my order from behind the counter was super pleasant and kind. He even offered me a tray and helped me get my coffee in it. I can see why this is such a popular place! I will definitely visit again the next time I'm in Bronxville. read more

Such a disappointing trip to Bronxville! The coffee itself doesn't even taste up to the hype that led the line out the door. I asked for a latte and and the milk this guy poured was right at the top! If I wanted a glass of milk, I would've asked. After he made the drink, I tried it and it tasted way too bitter so I asked to exchange it for a cold brew instead since it was made incorrectly! He then said he would have to charge me for both drinks. Seriously??! If they're the ones incorrectly making it, then they should do the customer right and make it the way it should be made!
