The best thing about this place is the location. That's the only reason I went here. I needed to do a quick load but I would NEVER make it a habit. The place is filthy and poorly maintained. There is trash everywhere and garbage cans overflowing (I went at 7am when it had just opened). It's extremely expensive too for what you get. Paying is not a bad experience. You can use cash/card and they have an app for regular users. I didn't download because I won't be coming back. Laundromats should make you feel like your dirty laundry is clean when you leave. That is not the case with The Laundry Doctor. Their motto is, "It'll all come out in the wash!" I honestly don't think that true here. Management needs to invest in this place and have workers keep it clean and friendly for folks paying this much money. They need to get new floors and clean out the washers, dryers, laundry carts and folding tables throughout the day. The bathroom needs to be in working order. Get rid of the pinball machine and put tables/desks in for people to plug in and work at. Their staff could use some customer service training too. The only helpful person was a woman that was doing laundry for their laundry service and she walked me through how to pay and operate the machines. I happened to take a look at the doctor's reviews to see if anyone else has had a similar experience to me. Lo and BEHOLD! Two reviews cover everything I would have to say. I was a customer, and there were missing items and missed deliveries nearly every single scheduled pick up and delivery day. When I tried to address this with Jeff, he had excuses every time and then ultimately blamed his employees, but never apologized for his own ineptitude or...whatever, never offered a solution, and never offered to make it up to me. My conclusion was that he just does not care about his small business accounts. I gave them several chances and our brief relationship ended in a rabid, accusatory text thread from him. My experience was also that he is a horrrible little man. Avoid their services at all costs. And if you can swing it, open a competing laundry. This fool gets away with this because he is the only one actively going after commercial accounts. He does a good song and dance, but he doesn't walk the walk. read more

I will second other reviewers in that this laundromat is filthy and poorly maintained. As a frequent traveler, I chose this laundromat because I did not need quarters to do a wash. When I arrived, I found a large number of the 'reasonable' sized washers were out of service. Once I found a working one it turns out that none of it mattered because they don't carry single-wash laundry products or any products at all! Discouraged by the high price of detergent at the fancy grocery store next door, I chose to go to a different laundromat and will cross this one off my list for the next time I'm through town. read more

This place is pretty darn good as far as laundromats go. I am here for my second Sunday in row. Last Sunday the gentleman (owner?) working was super helpful. They take credit cards here & I didn't know how to use the machine. He was very friendly & talked me through. Now I am here at 4pm on Super Bowl Sunday. The place is packed. As soon as I walked in the door, the same gentleman greeted me immediately as there were no vacant washers. He emptied one that was done so I could use it. Now THAT is service. I actually don't mind coming here to do my laundry, even though there is a set in my apartment building's basement that _should_ work. The cycles are fast and my stuff is clean and I don't have to mess with getting quarters at the store. Tonight I lollygagged in here about 8:20p to start 3 loads of laundry. The last wash is at 9:30, but I always feel guilty staying later than that. The guy who works at night (I wish I knew his name) is always quick to reassure me that it's fine. He's always cleaning and scrubbing and I think he must be the hard-workingest, happiest person I know. Those two do not always go hand-in-hand. After I started the dryers with my credit card (that's right, they take your freaking credit card), one of the machines had a glitch and didn't give me the full time. He cut his smoke break short to come help me figure it out, all smiles and kindness. When I gave him M&Ms for staying late, he broke into song(!) That's right. "If you don't know me by now," no less. And a pretty good rendition at that. Ladies and dudes, this the first time I have ever been serenaded in a laundromat. By one of the employees, no less. read more

I normally try to use the washers at my building, but I had a big comforter to wash and needed a commercial machine up to the task. I'm glad I stumbled upon this laundromat! When I arrived, I noted that the place was clean and in good order. I was greeted by the helpful attendant--when does THAT ever happen at a laundromat? There were plenty of large capacity machines, and all were in working order. Once the comforter was washed, it went into a giant capacity dryer. I was out of there in under an hour with clean bedding. Sweet! If you are feeling flush or lazy, you can drop your clothes off to be cleaned and folded (price is about a buck per pound). I love this place. For many of us that rent older-homes-turned-into-duplexes in St. Paul (the greatest city on Earth), the best laundry option is the one washer/dryer coin-op your landlord barely keeps up... It's always breaking down, or he hasn't cleared the coins out and your money/clothes jam up -- it's the PITS. So, Sel-Dale has a billion machines. They're probably similar to many laundromats, but I'm a loyal fan and don't go elsewhere. They take CREDIT CARDS which is baller, and they have huge machines that can do 3 normal loads in 1. So I can do all 9 loads of laundry I have at any given time at once, and bring my laptop and I barely get through 2 episodes of TV before I'm all done, folded and ready to go! They're rocking: -card op or coin op machines -Free WiFi -a seating area with tables if you need to work on stuff -arcade game or 2 to keep the kids entertained -vending machines -Dry cleaning send-out service -Full laundry service (priced per-pound) There's nothing like having someone else do the folding! Basically, they're just friendly, and it's a great way to get the world's most annoying chore done! BONUS: They have a loyalty program, you log in your name and number of washes every time you leave, and every 12th wash is free. I use this every other time I go there... I brought my comforter and other bedding for drop-off laundry service here, thinking it would be more convenient than bringing it to my usual place (Suds America) because of the proximity to where I live. Unfortunately, the attendant on duty INSISTED that my down-alternative comforter was indeed made of real feathers, and was going to charge me $20 to wash it. After some ridiculous arguing, (really, lady? You can't read a label?) I left and headed to Suds America where they happily laundered it for $12, as they have so many times in the past. Maybe the Laundry Doctor/Sel-Dale Laundromat would do a good job of washing my other laundry, but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I won't be back anytime soon to find out. I guess my top of the line down-alternative comforter must really feel like the real thing...sans gross dead bird parts. read more

I swear I know how to do laundry...I swear! Except for that giant blue queen-sized blanket I have and decided to try and wash in our regular washing machine. Did that work? Nope. What was I left with? A soaking wet, 9,000 lb blanket with detergent still in it. I tried "getting all old-fashioned" and washing it in the bathtub with my feet...did that work? Nope. SO! After putting it on a drying rack in my bathtub and letting most of the water drain out overnight, I looked for a laundromat that had jumbo-sized washer and dryers. Sel-Dale Laundromat did not disappoint! They had two 80 lb washers that could have fit two of my queen-sized blankets in them (although I wouldn't recommend that), and two super jumbo dryers (which I didn't need...went with the medium sized one instead). The jumbo washer wasn't cheap: $6 for a wash, but it was very thorough and worked just fine. The dryer was a great deal - $2.75 for 66 min. I thought it would only be 33, but mine said 66. Maybe I did something wrong. ANYWAY, $2.75 is pretty sweet. What's also sweet? The machine's take credit cards. WoOo! My only complaints: I wish they had more seating, I wish they were clearer about their wifi password (I felt like I was harassing the staff with my questions), and I wish they had an ATM. I didn't see one, but I could have missed it? Either way, if you have a giant queen-sized blanket to wash, this is the place to go! read more

I've used Laundry Doctor for drop off wash and fold, and for that it's totally adequate. That being said, they should NOT be marketing themselves as a self-serve laundromat. The experience for this type of customer is nightmarish. It's an unholy filthy mess, at least 50% more expensive than any other laundromat, the payment process is extremely convoluted, and the employees are impatient and rude, making snide remarks when you don't grasp their impossibly flippant and incomplete instructions. I nearly walked out the second I cleared the threshold and saw the state of the "laundromat" area, but decided to stay since loading my car back up and going to a different laundromat would have made me late for work, but I REALLY wish I had. I'm perfectly comfortable in hood lavanderia, but this joint is positively third world. Never again. read more

When my water heater went out for a week, I got to know THE LAUNDRY DOCTOR based on recommendations from my neighbors. It's not the closest laundry mat to my home, but it's worth the extra 5-minute drive. There are many oversized washers and dryers that make it easy to get your laundry done in a single pass. An oversized washer will cost $6. The Laundry Doctor also provides seating, free wi-fi and the ability to pay for your loads with a credit card or smartphone app. I enjoy the proximity to Mississippi Market, which makes it easy to purchase any forgotten laundry supplies. It's also convenient to the Louisiana Cafe which offers some of the best Biscuits & Gravy, Benedict breakfasts, and pancakes in the Twin Cities. The Muddy Pig is also nearby. The staff is friendly, but there are times when they use most of the oversized washers and dryers cleaning towels for corporate clients. When this happens, walk in customers need to banter for the remaining machines. read more

In my adult life, I have yet to have a washer-dryer at home, therefore I spent about 2+ hours at the laundromat, every week. For this reason, when I moved to the twin cities in 2008, I took my time trying out different laundromats, looking for a good fit. I tried a variety of them in the neighborhood including: J&R Cleaners and Laundry (Selby), Suds America (Marshall) and Super Clean (University Ave.). Finally when I came to Sel-Dale everything came together. The laundromat is always well-attended by knowledgeable staff (Darlene is amazing). She has advised me about how to treat different fabrics and stains as well as troubleshot any issues that come up with the machines. To pass the time while my clothes are washing I use their free wi-fi, walk to Mississippi Market for a snack or grab a beer at the Happy Gnome. When the clothes are finished, there are plenty of folding tables and carts. Although the interior could use some renovations, they have updated their machines and dryers in recent years. Additionally, now you can pay with a debit/credit card! Yeah, no more quarters! Also, they have a rewards program, which for those of us who have to use a laundromat 100% of the time, is nice. For every 16 washes, you get a free wash (which for me equates to about 1 free wash a month). It is my favorite place in the neighborhood to do laundry. read more

They are right in my building which makes it so easy, their lockers for drop off and pick up are secure, and the finished product is great! Based on the reviews here, I was excited to come here to wash my two comforters. Walking in, though, I was a little underwhelmed by the general disrepair of the place. The waiting area was somewhat clean, but the chair cushions have certainly seen their better days. Even the duct tape was wearing thin. The vending machines were mostly broken, which was a little disconcerting. The saving grace for the place was the man in the red baseball cap behind the counter. He helped this newbie figure out which machines to use, how to pay... Sold me detergent when the vending machine was broken, and was over all very friendly. Going to have to ask him about the wifi code, as I have yet to see it posted, even though there are many signs touting their free wifi. So, a decent place with large machines to get done what you need to, but feeling a bit tired. read more

I will never use this service again. I have placed two previous orders with them and this third one was a very poor experience. I placed an order on a Monday. This order was no different than others. Some shorts, shirts, pants and dress shirts. I was concerned when my apparel did not come after two days. I called numerous times to figure out what was going on and left messages and never got a call back. After a week I called again for the fifth or sixth time and finally got in touch with Jeff. He did not have an answer for me and said he would check his computer and then call me back in five minutes. He had absolutely no idea what was going on with my order, not as to why it wasn't here but why I am calling to complain. My order has not arrived in over a week, that is why I called to complain. FInally I got a notification that my stuff was dropped off. Very disappointed and will never use this service again. read more

Pretty clean - lots of dryers didn't work (have heat), but because it wasn't very busy I was able to find dryers that did. The regular, non-commercial, white washers are very low capacity and at the time of this writing cost $2.00 a load. The large capacity commercial dryer is a great value at $2.75 for 30 minutes. read more

Laundry Doctor has been a Godsend for me. Due to a knee injury, I was not able to do the stairs let alone carry laundry up and down. They pick up my laundry and deliver it to my door. Everything is perfectly folded and wrapped. The price is reasonable and the service is dependable. Even though my knee has healed, I am still using the service. It simplifies my life and saves me time. Just a heads up, as with most commercial laundries, don't expect them to give special care to your more fragile items. I have used them one other time, but only for clothing repair, which was all done very well. It just took a little longer than planned. This time I sent in ALL of my button down shirts (I think it totaled 30 or so) and a wool blanket. The blanket was a dry clean item, but the shirts were all laundered, hung to dry, and ironed with medium starch. (Dry cleaning is too hard on my shirts.) I placed them Within a pickup locker in my building and proceeded to place the directions into the app. Let's just say that as a new user I didn't quite get the instructions in correctly. Only two of my 31 items. And forgot to use the promo code that I had received. I called. The guy on the other end was super nice! He thanked me for letting him know of the large order and assured me that the promo code would get applied. He said that do to COVID, their turn around time was a little slow, but they were striving for a 48-hour turn around. Well...they hit all the marks for me! Not only did I have it back in two days, the clothes looked great and the blanket was perfect. Thanks Laundry Doctor! Well, our apartment building installed these fancy Laundry Doctor Lockers & they use The Laundry Doctor exclusively as the official provider for residents to have their clothing washed, cleaned, pressed, etc.. so, I thought I would give them a try. I had a simple order - 11 shirts to be cleaned and pressed. I had a couple of promo codes to try out too, a code for shirts to be cleaned and pressed for $1.99 each and another code to get $10 off my first order for being a "Newbie" (New-Customer.) My clothes were picked up before 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. There were a few minor hiccups along the way, but I got my shirts back and the workmanship and service was awesome. I am still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor. We got a wee bit backed up on laundry (like, 110 pounds of clothes kind of backed up). The 1980s washer and dryer in our apartment were not up to getting the job done! We found the laundry doctor while out on a walk around the neighborhood. Our interest was piqued when we saw they had free pick-up and delivery. I set up an appointment, and was truly impressed when they dropped off our laundry within 24 hours--completely washed, dried and folded. My Friend and I went to Sel-Dal Laundromat on Sunday, July 24, 2011 as we used yelp website to see which Laundromat have better reviews/comments and we notice that Sel-Dal Laundromat has many good/positive reviews and/or comments so we decided to go there and to see how it work out for us as we use washers/dryers of my clothes. The Staff there was good and helpful. Helped us to have better understanding of the huge washers and their buttons things what we would like them to wash clothes. Parking alot and building there seem good and clean. The negative ones are they're expensive for our tastes, but we decided to go ahead anyway. There was three change machines there and no ATM Machine there. I noticed one of change lite on (mean it's out of order and need to fix or something. Then, one other change machine "out of order" with lite on. We ran out of quarters and we looked around to see if we could break certain dollars bills into quarters and No luck. There were many people looking to change from dollars bills into quarters and couldn't find one change machine that are in working order. So, I'd like to make a suggestions that the staff there should check with all of change machines every two to three hours by fill up some more quarters and sadly it didn't happen. I noticed that some customers left that Laundromat because not be able to break dollar bill into quarters and not be able to do with their clothes without quarters on their hands/pockets for washers/dryers. There was a really nice lady who helped me use the machines and guided me through the process. She even restarted a machine that was out of order, for me. Awesome place! They do a fantastic job with their wash and fold service. Shirts are always hanging nicely on hangers, clothes are nicely folded and shrink wrapped. In, out and done the same day. Katrina and the staff are amazing and super friendly. I've been coming here for years and will continue to do so. My employer recently issued me a uniform that is made of some sensitive material and the care instructions read like a novel. It was no challenge for The Laundry Doctor. The shirt came out looking better than it did when it was issued to me new. They have sewn buttons for me and even have dry cleaning service when it is needed. I've both used their wash-dry-fold service and done laundry here on my own, and I have yet to be disappointed. With the drop-off service (priced by the pound...a big basket usually runs about $20-$25), I don't have to worry about making sure I have detergent or change, and my clothes always turn out great. In fact, they take better care of my clothes than I do...My polo and button-down shirts are always wrapped separately and put on a hanger instead of being folded. A nice touch. Machine prices are pretty comparable to other nearby laundromats, and you can use your credit/debit card instead of fooling around with a bunch of change. The card machine makes it easy to start multiple machines with one swipe; a very small time-saver, but much appreciated. read more

Attempted to use pick up service at apt complex. Placed shirts to be laundered in locker last Friday (1/27/17), but didn't have any kind of bag to put them in. Filled out registration on-line and waited. Advertisement said 48 hour turn-around. Fast forward 6 days. I emailed company to ask when the shirts would be delivered, but was told that my order was refused because the items weren't bagged. So if I had never inquired, I would never have known my shirts were still sitting in the locker. And to top it off, when I went to retrieve them tonight (2/2/17), the locker was not locked. So someone drove all the way out to pick them up, unlocked the locker and then just decided to leave them there without notifying me. Now back to that email. Their response said my order was cancelled and that I should just put them in a bag and fill out a new order. NO THANKS! read more

I am a stay at home mom with two young daughters (20 months, and 5 months). My husband works long hours, and the weeks tend to get a little long by Friday afternoon. I typically get to Sel-Dale right as they open at 7:00am on Saturday. For the first few months, I enjoyed the quiet time offered by the respectful clientele and friendly staff and proprietor. After seeing some of the same faces every week, I began to meet some of my fellow Saturday morning launderers. Now, I am happy to call them my friends! I thoroughly enjoy my time every Saturday morning, spending a few hours with others just like me, busy people looking for a little sanity... I have spent THREE and a HALF days trying to reach someone at this place to discuss a laundry contract. I first had to buy a touch tone phone, then I kept getting VM's and finally reached someone who had little info, but gave me the owner's number. I called that and got another VM. I hung up and called back and PUSHED THE &**%^%&$(^*$^#* button for the service I was interested in ONLY TO GET ANOTHER VM asking me to leave my name and number.
