Spring cleaning in means switching everything winter in a home for spring. In my life that means washing all heavy bedding and clothing layers before packing them up to swap for lighter, brighter spring and summer delights. Unless I want to do several continuous loads, that means using huge laundromat washers Suds has two massive washers. One was apparently out of order. The coin receptor on the other jams so badly, it may as well have been labeled out of order as well. Even the attendant gives up on it and refunds my money with an apology and a suggestion to use the next largest washer drum. The machine was already fully loaded with items and detergent, if course, so this made for an amusing - and very messy - swap. Tons of powder soap end up on the floor in front of both original and smaller machine. The attendant had stated he'd return the amount he and I had gotten through jamming into the first machine as well as give me a single-size soap packet to make up for what I put into the mess. In returning with the cash and seeing my large containers of detergent, he notes this and says he guesses I don't need the soap after all. Heads up: Customer service isn't about whether the guest has enough to cover your mistakes as a business - it's about taking responsible for bumps in your operation and their consequences. I jokingly muse that I could drop a note in the suggestion box, and the attendant dryly responds - Steve would never fix it. Or upgrade to coinless operations to make life much easier for his guests. Well, that's comforting. It's okay, there are plenty of laundromats that not only would, they have long provided that service. Oh, and while waiting on my washer, I spotted another guest having to unload a dryer to move his items to the next one over - because the coin receptor on it was jamming as well. Nice. Irony that in leaving this spot, I drop in on a lovely, clean laundromat down the way that I'll definitely be visiting next time I have blankets to wash. So thanks for that! read more

I have been faithfully coming to Suds America for almost 3 years, now. It is one of the cleanest and well maintained laundromats I've been to. This fact speaks very highly of the people who work there as there is a tremendous amount of traffic in and out of the facility. I usually come in to do my laundry during the evenings and I got a chance to know Bill while he worked there. He did such a fabulous job keeping things running smoothly, he was always kind, and he usually had a story to tell me. When Bill left to pursue his dreams, Brittany was hired on for the evenings. My very first impression of Brittany was that she was focused and a very hard worker. She did her job quickly and efficiently, and worked with a purpose that is quite frankly not evidenced in the work ethic of the employees of most of the other businesses I frequent. I can tell that for Brittany, this is more than just a job or a paycheck. She really cares about what she does and the people she comes into contact with. I got a chance to see Brittany in all of her glory one night when I drained my car battery while waiting for my clothes to dry. I went around asking, business to business, to see if anyone could help me jump my car battery and no one was able to help me until I asked Brittany. Without blinking her eyes, she said, "Yes", and went swiftly to work, pulling jumper cables from her trunk and expertly brought my lifeless battery back to life. She was so kind to me and never made me feel bad for draining my battery. She shared her own "dead battery story" with me which helped to make me feel better about my own experience. Instead of leaving the parking lot that night feeling ashamed for not better monitoring my battery, my heart felt full and like I'd gained a true friend. Since that night, I continue to see Brittany go above and beyond in all she does at Suds America. I purposefully make sure to do my laundry on the nights when I know she works as she always greets me warmly and with a smile. Brittany, thank you for the way that you show up in this world. I wish you got more recognition for all you bring to Suds America and the world around you. I notice. I see you. I appreciate you. I can't really compare this laundromat with others, as I really just keep coming back here instead of trying others because I've been so satisfied with Suds. This place is clean, seems to always have well-maintained machines, and very large capacity washers and dryers. It also has a number of standard capacity washers, too. I always come here when I have a laundry crisis and need to get several loads done in addition to my bed spread, sheets, and pillows. My only gripe is the sheer number of coins (quarters) you have to manage. Granted, they have change machines to convert bills to quarters. But with large capacity machines costing $5.00/load, you're sitting there shoving 20 quarters into the machine which is just a nuisance. They should have some sort of electronic payment system. And, at the VERY least, the machines should accept DOLLAR COIN (which the entire United States should be using in place of bills, but that is a rant for a different time). read more

I've been doing laundry here for the better part of a year. Loved the place... not any more... I thought opened at 7 ... I got there at 7:30 when the owner pulled in... & I was talking to a friend & Also my voc rehab connect in text. I pushed my laundry into a pile next to the drivers door on the ground... I was finishing up my power juice... & this is typical of me doing laundry - turtle ass - nobody could see my laundry pile as I was in the back corner ... the owner opens the side door.. & suddenly starts yelling at me "if your not doing laundry get out of here ... " Huh? I'm confused... he is yelling at me more...& mocking me... well... here is the problem... last week... I asked this bully if he'd rent me a part time space as he rents to a roach-y food truck & my flyer has been hanging on his bulletin board... he said no. Used insurance as an excuse... I did not engage or argue... I was finished my laundry & left until this morning... I maybe homeless but I'm cleaner than this pig... no pride in ownership... I could have provided service as well as rent $... look at his filthy parking lot... I'm not homeless to spite him... I exist & I am part of this community. Let's do the math $15-$50 bucks a week for a year is what I've spent as a customer - I'd never talk to or treat anyone the way I get talked to. read more

Where is the 5++ stars? Honestly I didn't expect much coming to a laundromat around three (more?) major colleges. Boy was I so surprised... They have a drop off service for laundry - $14 for a comforter. ($15.06 with tax) I think wash and dry is about $10 worth of quarters - there is an old saying 'Time is money' ... and I will be giving them my money to save time again the future!! Not gonna lie - my comforter was *nnnnnnasty* covered in dog hair and drool (poor puppy anxiety) - I needed to wash it ...and bit the bullet and dropped it off -- not only did they call and leave a nice message - they got 98% of it off! ('Loads' better than my impatience ass - pun intended) Highly recommend this place and will recommend the service to anyone that will listen. Thanks for doing a great job!! read more

So this was my go to place back in the day when I didn't own a washer and dryer. The place was clean, they had a TV going, located next to a convenience store and they had a video game and a pinball machine. It's still like that but Izzy's is now across the street. The only major change was that now to do a load is $5.75. Things sure have changed. Either way, there is always staff on sight and in the grand scheme of things, the place gets the job done. read more

YAY FOR CLEAN CLOTHES! This place offers different size washing machines from small, medium, large and extra large loads. The prices for wash are decent, about $3-10 per load depending on what size you want. And dryers are 25 cents for 5 minutes. Machines are super efficient and work well. The staff are nice and help you if you need it, but also let you have your privacy too. Ever since I moved back to St. Paul, this has been my go to place for laundry. Try this place out, you won't be disappointed! PS - just don't overstuff your wet clothes into the dryer like I did - or else you'll be embarrassed and make a scene. Happy washing! read more

There's parking, it's clean, has a nice waiting area with video games and vending machines, there are entry of washers and dryers that all work well! I did 5 lids for about $10. Came here every other week for 2 years and I have nothing bad to say about this place! It's a great laundromat and the workers are pleasant and nice for the most part. I usually come before they close because it can get pretty busy during the day. They are pretty organized and nothing failed me when doing laundry here. The best reason why I come here to do laundry is because there's izzy's ice cream right across the street! Every now and then, I stop by and get Izzy's cause it's too irresistible! I never actually thought a laundromat would inspire me to gush endlessly like a fan girl, but I never thought I would find Suds America either. First off, it's so clean and well lit. When the attendants have some down time, they're cleaning the folding tables, emptying lint traps, sweeping the floors. Sometimes laundromats just smell funny but this place actually smells like clean laundry (which just so happens to be my favorite smell of all time). Somehow the garbage cans conveniently located throughout the business are never more than 1/4 full. I have a tendency to wait until every article of clothing I own is dirty before I will wash them, so I basically bring in my entire wardrobe. And amazingly enough, there are always enough machines. Usually they're all in a row too! The dryers are large capacity too so when I need about five washing machines, I'll only need two dryers. Because I can wash and dry everything at once and there's always a table available for folding, I can get a month's worth of laundry done in about 1.5 hours. There's an ATM available as well as two change machines. The attendants will break up a $20 for you without complaint. While you're waiting there's free wifi, Izzy's ice cream across the street, Marshall Liquor right next door, Trotter's cafe is right near by too. There's vending machines, an arcade game, cable TV. This place is how all laundromats should be. read more

This is probably the handiest discovery in St. Paul! They have very large washing machines (and a tanning salon) but their best service is the drop off laundry. It'll cost me about $20-25 every time and the clothes are washed, folded and hung on hangers (shirts, dresses, etc). Always prompt and an incredible time saver. Highly recommend!!! read more

Dear Suds America, Let me start by saying "I'm sorry", I cheated on you with the crappier laundromat only because it is closer to my house and I got lazy. I am regretting it now as my ears sting at the piercing sound of the children crying and the less than fortunate people ask me for money that I can't spare. There is also a weird smell and their bathrooms are cold and sketchy. Your bathrooms on the other hand are always warm and smell like clean laundry... There is something so inviting about the friendly women that work behind the front desk that greet you when you walk in, or the younger guy that is friendly and always has his headphones in listening to whatever is cool right now. He's pretty good at his job; always cleaning out the lint traps it seems. The place has such a cozy cabin feel and the tvs and vending machines are always a plus. Not to mention you're disgustingly close to Izzys Ice Cream...god that place is good. Even on the days that I don't feel like sitting around at the laundromat you have that heavenly drop off wash and fold service that we utilize probably way too much; it's brilliant. Anyway, here I am dreaming about you while I sit at the cold and stagnant "other" place, my ears subjected to the shitty rap music that the dude two seats down insists on playing through his horrible cell phone speaker...I should have just driven the extra 5 minutes like my fiance suggested; I just don't want to admit that he was right. This is definitely the nicest laundromat I have ever used. Prices are reasonable (2.25-2.50 for a regular sized wash load). The are plenty of machines to go around, a good ratio of washers to dryers, free wifi, large tables for folding, an atm, a change machine, and a nice vending machine/hang out area with tables to wait in while your laundry is washing. The place is easy to get to, has convenient parking, and is very clean and well lit. Staff is available behind the counter if you have any problems or questions. Plus there is a bakery, an ice-cream shop, restaurants and a salon across the street if you need a little treat while you wait. read more

My landlord is doing "spring cleaning" and the washers/dryers in my building are out of commission. Hence, I turned to Yelp to find a nice laundromat and I found Suds America. This place is located in a very safe neighborhood in St. Paul (Merriam Park) with good parking. I like the way they have wheely baskets so you can take all your laundry out of your car at once. There are change machines on-sight and laundry soap available. I love the way there are no seedy characters hanging around this place. The only thing is that the machines are kind of pricey. For a small machine, it's like $2.50 to wash! Oh, yeah, you can also lie in a tanning bed in case you want to get your Jersey Shore on while you are washing your clothes. read more

I was really impressed by how clean and organized the place is. In addition, they have washer/dryers from single basked to 80-pound (~7 baskets) size. Lots of roller baskets to move things around and the owner/manager is really observant for anyone having issues (and he is really proactive about getting things solved). I decided to try this place because I knew I could kill some time at Izzy's across the street while I was doing my laundry. I think the photos on the business page are old, because in person the machines are not all shiny and pretty. It looked old in there, and although the machines all seemed to be working, and it looked as if it might be clean, there was something about the lighting in the middle and back of the place that seemed dirty. Okay neighborhood, when I was sitting outside while my stuff was in the dryer I was treated to some lovely guys making their way from the liguor store next door to the gas station on the other side. I've gone here consistently for three years and have always liked the facilities and service (usually I do my own laundry but sometimes it's nice to drop off and get comforters and stuff done) but last time i came in the ladies working made a snide remark about how much I put in the dryer, they told me they were watching me put my clothes in and thought it wouldn't even turn and then tried to advise me how to do my laundry. I'm 23.. I know how to do my laundry... if you had more large dryers I would have portioned my clothes out differently. Idk the point of criticizing me. There are probably a dozen laundry mats closer to where I live, but I go out of my way to use Suds America and have been doing so for about four years now. It is clean, safe, and convenient. The staff is friendly and always proactively trying to help. One time my boyfriend completely lost the keys to my car while we were there. The owner helped us look all over for them. When they never turned up, his wife offered to give us a ride home. Really great people. Other amenities include free newspapers and Izzy's across the street. Yum! There is a tanning side to the business too, but I have no experience with that. I just know it exists. read more

I've been going to suds for tanning forever. Clean beds and I like to sample all the lotions they let you try! And the drop off service is a gift from the laundry gods. Let's be honest doing laundry is so time consuming sometimes you just need to be lazy. Like the other yelpers here, I love how friendly the staff is, and no sketchballs or lurkers at suds. I've been tanning here a few times, and it is exactly the set-up I've always looked for to tan. I only go tanning a few times per year, and I've always felt weird about going to tanning salons where the employees are glowing orange and you need to have an appointment. There are 15 beds here and they're never full when I've been there so no appointment is needed. The employees are really nice and don't make me feel creeped out like most tanning salon employees do. The price is also pretty cheap and they have some coupons on their website to make it even better. read more

So, I've been here a few times before and I quite liked it.. enough to take a longer drive to this one instead of a closer laundromat. It's clean, good up-to-date washing machines, and good hours. BUT, this morning I had planned out to do my laundry before work. I had it all timed out. I got up earlier than usual and headed out. But when I arrived, at about 7:30 am exactly the doors were locked to my surprise.. I double checked the posted hours on their website it it clearly stated OPENS AT 7:30 AM. I figured maybe the opening person was running late or something so I decided to wait 15-20 minutes but no one ever came. I couldn't wait any longer as I had to take a long drive back home to get ready for work. This REALLY disappointed me. It's just unprofessional. I will not be coming back. They either need to get a dependable opener or change the hours on their website. Will be opting for the closer laundromat even if it's smaller and more crowded. read more
