They did not tell me that was not a good distribution of kids by gender in the classroom. I asked for her to change classroom and they said no. I brought this to the attention of the Director and I was told that she would look into the matter. She then proceeded to tell me that they had been having an issue with skunks in the area (this is the honest truth.) I was insulted that she thought this excuse would ease my mind and right then I knew she would not be dealing with this issue. On many occasions we were never refunded for extra classes we paid for. When the instructors did not show up I assumed my account was credited- it was not and I had to ask for a refund. The only time I was refunded was on one occasion. I gave up having to deal with the management at that point. On a weekly basis I noticed not only my child's classroom but other classrooms were out of the teacher/child ratio. Many times I would see one teacher to at least eight children. The parents were asked to fill out a survey and turn it into the management. I mentioned these issues in the survey but yet never heard a word about the results of the survey. I cannot believe Child Time did not hire an outside company to handle this- if in fact they wanted to know the issues going on in the center. Thankfully our child ended up in a classroom with a wonderful teacher Ms. Liz. She was very caring and extremely qualified to handle the children. If our child was not in her classroom we would have left much earlier. During the pickup of our child I had observed some teachers speaking to children in a very uncaring and unprofessional manner. On the positive side of things- they use an App to provide you with real time updates and pictures. The App allows you to communicate directly with the teacher. The food was nutritional. The hours of care were great for us and hard to find at other places.

This school is a gem right in the heart of Birmingham. That said, students come from many local…read morecities as it seems to draw many wonderful families looking for a safe and nurturing environment. They accept kids starting at 18 months (don't have to be potty trained) and you can create your own schedule from Monday - Friday. We are sending both of our children there this year. We have noticed HUGE strides in our children's learning and social skills. They do crafts (even the Tots class with kids from 18 - 2.5 years), read books, sing songs and teach lessons of sharing and tolerance. Our son started last year in the 3's program and it was so heart warming to watch him grow and play with his friends. His language improved and we got so many crafts to keep. Our daughter is now in the Tots program and only 2 months in, her vocabulary went from 20 or so words to now stringing together phrases and she pretty much repeats any word she hears. She was also really shy and now is very outgoing and loves playing with other kids. The teachers and school director are like family to us. They are really comforting and understanding and it is so evident that they love what they do! Other things that I believe set St. James apart: they disinfect all classrooms every (yes, every!) day, they have a very strict locked door policy and ID anyone that is not the usual pick up person (I've seen it for myself when a dad was picking up his son and a teacher didn't know him). They do work sheets and it is very focused on education / learning. All of the teachers there are required to do so many hours of training each year too. Again, you can do as many or as little days a week you want and mornings or extend the day to 2:00, they do lots of crafts, they have a balanced amount of activities and field trips and the other parents and kids are just wonderful. I've met so many great moms and feel so happy every time I am there. We looked at other schools and have friends at other schools and truly, St. James far exceeds anything we could have asked for. Check out the school! You can call Shar Wickens, the director, directly and set up a personal visit when convenient for you.

The girls have not had a relationship with their Nanny since when they were just infants. Knowing the environment at home is at a 'good place' is an invaluable aspect when we are away at work. My wife and I are both working through this Pandemic as our industry's are qualified as an Essential Service. I especially am away from home more as my company is a partner with FEMA to transport aid/supplies to areas of need during this Pandemic. We have used a nanny in our home for 15 years. Some have been found by a family friend, word-of-mouth, Care and Nanny Services. As with any family who utilize a Nanny there are stories. But the story for us has stopped with Lena. Comparing our experiences with what we have encountered with Lena is like night and day. Knowing first hand the service you will experience with Lena is very hard to come by. My only regret is that we did not find each other sooner, like 9 years ago. But we would not have found _________ and the girls enjoy her very much. The difference in Lena's Service from other Nanny Companies is her dedication to 'the match'. This is not a, "quick, let's fill a home with a warm body type of service". Nor should it be. Do personalities conflict sometimes, absolutely. But the choices placed in front of us was comforting to minimize this. After the match Lena remained in contact and does what she says she will do. Yet another quality that is rare to find. Christopher and Nicole.
