Wonderful cafe and bar next to the stadium. Has a nice cozy feel with plenty of books and games to settle down with a beer and some friends. Ordered The Best Turkey Sandwich Ever which was super solid. Some think this is supposed to be a turkey melt, it is not. Although they will gladly toast it to make it into one. Stephanie runs a great combination of fire grilled lunch and dinner spot, coffee shop and bar. The morning tea and coffee shop transitions well to an excellent lunch and or dinner estanlishment. Top shelf or well, the cocktails are swell. Craft beers are well chosen. Outdoor terrace is quite spacious. This place is really close to campus, good food, good beer, BAD service. I've had two bad interactions with the owner and waitstaff now. I had to wait 10 minutes for food that was completely finished and sitting on the counter as the servers chatted it up. They then got my order wrong and said they wouldn't do anything about it when I told them. Be sure to go prepared for a bad attitude. They're one of the closest bars to campus and they know they have a corner on that market. read more

Love going here every time I visit Madison! It's unique and cozy, especially with the fireplace in the winter. The crowd isn't your crazy college binge drinkers, which I like even though I try to pretend I'm a coed. My recent visit was after the homecoming football game, and like my friend Ryan E. said we were able to get a seat for 6 of us pretty quickly. The menu looks good - but I have yet to try anything. The food was alright, but I thought this was a cool bar. The walls are lined with books and there are some comfy couches in the middle to sit on. Great cozy place, especially when you can sit outside. I haven't had their coffee, just alcohol and food. All the food is wonderful. The loaded fries app is a meal for two! Great drink specials that change throughout the day, but wish they had them posted online or on yelp... I never know what they are until I get there. read more

This bar is a favorite of my friends and I! We come here regularly for the great drinks and food and for the outdoor seating when it's nice out. So glad that the owner was smart enough to realize that there's hardly any eating places on the west side of campus. The cajun fries are extremely delicious, but the rest of the menu is great too. Vegetarian friendly, and they have an outdoor area now. Just beware that during meal times and right after work, lots of people flood the place so there's hardly anywhere to sit. read more

As a college student, I quickly get tired of the meal options we have on campus, so I was excited to try The Library as an alternative place to eat. The food was better than anything I eat on campus, but it was very simple and uninspired. Also, when one of our party asked if she could have her bacon prepared less crispy than normal for her avocado-BLT, she was informed that the bacon is precooked and just heated up when orders come in. Hm.... In addition, the kitchen area looked a little sketchy, though the plates were neatly prepared and the food tasted nice. The service was very slow, and there aren't very many tables, so if you go for lunch be prepared to be patient. Overall, decent but underwhelming. read more

I've gotten lunch to go here two or three times and after the last time, vowed never to go back. I know that they get busy, but the service at this place is terrible! On one occasion, I stood at the counter for at least five minutes waiting to place an order, and had the clerk ignore me to wait on someone else. The last time I went in there, I ordered a chicken salad to go. It took over 20 minutes to be made, and when it was finally done, they gave it to me without the grilled chicken. So basically I paid nine bucks for a bunch of lettuce, which I didn't realize until I got back to my office. Never again! read more

This is a cool bar. It's relatively small inside, but it's a cool environment and there's a variety of places to sit - high top tables, bar seating, cushy chairs and couches, etc. I can only speak for the beverage selection, and it's pretty solid. Typical impressive beer selection evident in most Madison bars and decent drinks. I've heard great things about the food, especially the sandwiches and wraps... looking forward to eating here sometime soon! read more

I had been to this bar several times during their lunch hours and never had a problem. I brought a friend who had never been to the Library to have a drink on a Friday night and received terrible treatment from the bartender on staff. Upon asking for our drinks the bartender asked to see our IDs. I provided my out of state ID only for the bartender to tell me "I'll serve you only if you promise that if the cops come, you won't admit that this is a fake ID." I told the bartender my ID was legitimate and offered to give him several different forms of ID to which he said "I was under 21 once, I know how easy it is to get fake forms of identification." After being verbally harassed by the bartender my friend and I decided to take our business elsewhere. I am several years over the legal drinking age and have never had this problem with any other bar in Madison. The bartender was a patronizing ass hole who got his excitement off of asserting his "authority" over the bar and hassling legal and willing customers . I will never go back to the Library and will urge my engineering colleagues to do the same. read more

Stopped here for lunch with a colleague. I got something like "the best turkey sandwich of all time". It was in fact not the best of all time and was down right average to below average. Looks like a fun drinking establishment though...and is right across from the WID read more

This place is an average bar - convenient if you work in a lab nearby.

Delicious menu; a little quirky interior, but a great and reliable place for a quick lunch. Dined at the Library multiple times and have NEVER had a bad meal. Give it a try, you will come back and be craving their Turkey Sandwich. read more

I love the Library! It is such a nice alternative to the sports bars around the SW side of campus. The staff is great and they have the best fries ever. I just wish there was a place to sit outside so I would have more incentive to go there when it's nice out. read more
