I've eaten at The Bar Next Door a few times now, and have consistently been pleasantly surprised. We stopped in at 11pm after watching fireworks in the area and were thrilled they were still serving food. I ordered a chicken sandwich, which was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. It was served on a Stella's spicy cheese bread bun, and had red pepper pesto and Boursin cheese. Truly delicious. My husband enjoyed the smash burger, and also had excellent things to say. Bar service was friendly and attentive. While the location is odd, The Bar Next Door brings phenomenal food to a typical WI bar. It couldn't be a better mix. read more

We were here on a Saturday evening on our way back to Indiana from our week long fishing trip to Northern Minnesota. The crowd was pretty full and the waiter was hustling. The drinks were good and not weak. The appetizers were fantastic and the entrees were also delicious. The atmosphere in the place was that of a great neighborhood bar where nearly everyone knew everyone else. Overall The Bar Next Door gets a 4.5 out of 5. We will be back next year. read more

We've been here several times since moving to the area earlier this year. The radar usually goes off when you see a bar tucked in next to a Super 8 motel and an A&W. Thankfully, it couldn't have been more wrong. Our first experience was just popping in to try to catch a bit of the Badgers football and we were immediately impressed with the attentive staff and food. The drink pours are nice, as is the selection, along with a good selection of beer. The menu rotates a bit but the core items are very strong, particularly the smash burger and Bahn mi sandwich. The fries are also really good, as are the cheese curds (almost mandatory in WI). It's hidden away, but has earned a strong following so it can get busy and noisy. Don't sleep on this place. The Bar Next Door is nestled in a building that houses a Super 8, so it might not even get on some people's radar. However, don't let that stop you. In addition to being a solid bar with all manner of bar-related drinks, they're doing pretty solid food, as well. The Smashburger is a gem. The cheese curds are solid. Who can imagine a restaurant attached to a Super 8 turning out incredibly tasty food. On a recommendation, stopped in on a Saturday night and the place was busier than I thought. With a bar in the moddle and tables set around, it wad a great mix of people-kids from a local baseball team, couples, others looking to wet their whistle with their solid beer lineup. Service was incredibly friendly and their food blew me away. Smash burgers made with beef from a local butcher, bread from Stalzys, homemade meatballs (sandwich only available Friday and Saturday) it was a solid lineup. My daughter and I weren't that hungry to devote to two entrees so we sampled a few appetizers. Gotta love a homemade dip and the Bar Next Door knocked it out of the park with their Green Goddess Feta Dip. Not to be outdone, their bruschetta with their heirloom cherry tomatoes, burrata, and balsamic reduction on top of a Stalzy baguette was steller. Absolutely stoked to return and try more! read more

This bar is attached to a Super 8 off the interstate but is not at all what one would expect after reading the first part of this sentence. The service is impeccable. The food was upscale bar food and wasn't priced like it. We went in on a Saturday afternoon and it was about 2/3 full and there was only 1 bartender and 1 server but they kicked ass and no one was left waiting. It was so very impressive. The food was good, I had the gyro and we also had the ahi tuna and crab dip. Unfortunately the fries were slightly overcooked, but had great flavor and the gyro was so filling that I didn't eat many fries anyway. They have a good tap beer selection and the wines are also good. The food and drink prices are a good value as well. I'll be back soon for another gyro. read more

They constantly check in with you and feel like old friends. They make some of the best Old Fashioned's as well, which is so important in Wisconsin! Was out with a girlfriend and wanted to try a new place for a Friday night cocktail; Ive heard good things about this place since it was renovated (previously it was Tops Hideaway) and wanted to check it out. I wasn't sure what to expect being that it's a bar attached to a Super 8 motel, but I was surprised with how nice the atmosphere was. I'd say it's a clean updated casual dive bar There was a pool table, a few dart boards and a fairly large bar with plenty of seating. The bartenders were super friendly. We sat at the bar and saw all the miscellaneous drinks they were making - one that stood out to me was their kiddie cocktail with vodka :) It came with these delicious dark cherries and their own homemade syrup - so good!! Their long islands were all hand made - no premixed which I can't stand. We tried the cheese curds which were very gooey and pretty decent. Looking to eat on our way to Chicago and I find this on yelp. Pictures look good so we reroute there. Well craps it's in a Super8, probably gonna suck but reviews were good (family is skeptical). Wow what an establishment! After seeing posts on Facebook and their 4 star and above only ratings on yelp we just had to try this place. My wife and I both ordered a smash burger and fries with an order of curds between us. When I say I inhaled the food, that would be an understatement. I would add a picture of it along with this review however I was too caught up in trying not to choke on the food it went down so fast. The ambiance of the bar very pleasant as well! I ordered it to go but while I was in there, it seemed like a down to earth place with genuine workers and people. The service was also amazing. Initially they missed a burger on my order, however I pointed it out and they didn't charge me for the one they made on the fly. 10/10 recommend this place to go get food, watch some sports, and play some darts. The only thing I can't comment on is the drinks since I haven't ordered any from there yet! New favorite burger in all of the madison area! Yum! read more

One the best underrated places I have ever been to! This is my third time coming and I am still impressed by the food, drinks, and service. It was super busy and the server (Scott) was also bartending did a superb job of multitasking and not forgetting about people! It was super busy and he still had a smile on his face. We got two appetizers which were delish! The bruschetta tasted fresh with a homemade balsamic dressing. The Rueben egg rolls was the winner! They make their own corned beef and all their sauces! I usually don't like the sauce on the Reuben but two thumbs up! The egg rolls were crispy and not oily. I would highly recommend it for an app. For dinner, we got the smash burger with regular fries and hot Nashville chicken sandwich with truffle fries. The smash burger had cheese between two Patties loaded up with sides. It was juicy and what I expected a burger to be. The chicken sandwich was okay. I only had two hot Nashville chicken sandwiches and the other one tasted so different. I thought the chicken was juicy and good but I didn't like the sauce. It was too sweet for me. Hands down this is one of my favorite spots to go to eat, have drinks and enjoy the sports games on tv. It's a great little bar with awesome food. It's location is interesting.
