What a difference a few years make. I realize that this is a resort town and that prices have escalated over the last few years, so we were not surprised when a modest breakfast was priced at $6.50. What did surprise us (and basically ticked us off) is that they charged for a little bit of extra salsa for my husband's Breakfast Burrito. I mean really. What's next? Are they going to charge for ketchup, mustard, and jelly for toast? Are salt & pepper next on the condiment list to result in an up-charge? I won't say that we will never eat here again, but this nickel & dime approach is just irritating and detracts from the enjoyment we always had from eating here. The staff & service are still friendly and proficient and the food is still good, but I think I'll just cook breakfast myself. read more

Nice little diner with good food. We stopped in for lunch on our way home. My husband had the club sandwich with bean and ham soup. I had the chicken Blt with fries and loaded potato soup. The soups were great, and the club was really good. My breaded chicken sandwich was ok, but not a real chicken Breast so I was a little disappointed in that. I wondered after if I had gotten grilled instead if it would have been a real chicken breast. They also serve breakfast, and everyone's plate in the restaurant looked good. They were able to quickly seat our party of ten on a Saturday morning, which was great. Service was a little bit slow, but seeing as it was "rush hour" that's to be expected. Food was good, nothing overly special or unique, just good classic breakfast stuff. No complaints from any of us, and we had two picky-ish eaters with us (6 and 9, lol). Very accommodating for one of the kids who has a severe nut allergy (cooked his in a separate pan instead of the larger griddle). And it's really cheap/reasonably priced. Not that special. Pretty overpriced considering it's a half-put together breakfast joint but it's because it's for tourists so I guess I get it. Not much furnishing, feels sorta empty, and service was OK. You don't really know who your server is so you'll have to figure that out on your own with whoever comes up. I understand that they are currently understaffed, but man oh man it was slow. Our waitress did not come to our table for 10+ min and we waited another 10 min for our drinks. The straws were thrown at us and we were only given three for four guests. Tables seated after us received their food way before us and it was quite annoying. I ordered the western omelet and pancakes which were sub-par for the thirty min wait to be seated and then another 45 min before we got our food. If you have time to kill go eat it, but if you are in a rush go somewhere else. read more

Heard nothing but good reviews from my family, but when I went it took 20 minutes for the waitress to even ask what drinks we wanted and another 10 after that to get the drinks. This would've been okay with me, but every other table outside was asked what they wanted within a few minutes if not less after being seated. This service was consistent through the meal it seemed our table was a last priority even when we tried to pay the check the waitress brushed us off a few times before finally taking the payment. The food was good but not worth the wait. I'm not sure if our experience was worse because of our younger age, so if you're younger and looking for a place to eat don't expect good service here. read more

Everything here is great! Service, coffee, breakfast items, lunch items. Every all-meat omelette I've had at other places include crispy bacon bits, tiny ham cubes and mashed-up sausage. This omelette has large pieces of bacon, big chunks of fried ham, and large chunks of sausage. This is just an example of the quality of the food served. Oh...and my wife recently included the sweet potato fries with her lunch...best I've ever had...they did not need dipping sauce. The place is not much to look at, but the food and great service keep bringing us back. read more

Nice place, friendly service, inexpensive breakfast food. Pancakes were a bit of a disappointment. While they were huge and fluffy, they tasted like dough. Literally tasted like I was eating flour. We love this place for breakfast. The Early Bird special is my husband's favorite - 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, AND ham plus hashbrowns and toast or pancakes PLUS coffee - all for $6.95 before 9 am or $7.95 after 9. I had the cranberry walnut French toast and it was wonderful. It's small and clean and the staff is attentive. Perfect way to start another day in beautiful northern Michigan. read more

I really haven't any idea on how this place was voted best breakfast of anything. My only guess is they left them on a deserted island for a couple days then fed them breakfast from here. It was fine, but mediocre at best. Everything cooked from the Sysco truck. If service hadn't been turtle like, they may have gotten three stars, but even to be greeted took forever. We love the Lighthouse Cafe. My favorite place to have breakfast in the Frankfort area. The food is good, the service is always good. In the summer there is usually a wait to get a table. My waits have been 30 and 20 minutes. Once you're seated you don't have to wait long for coffee. Our food came out quickly and hot. And then you eat. read more

I'm a tourist here, so my expectations are perhaps a bit lofty considering I'm on vacation and that's the only reason I give two stars. We arrived for breakfast around 10:30 in the morning and it was fairly busy, we were put on the wait list and told to wait 30 mins, when the hour mark came along, I went inside to ask about the status of our table of 5. There isn't one person that mans the front desk, just a random waitress that may or may not acknowledge you when you stand there for 15 minutes and smile sheepishly (maybe that's what led to the remaining fiasco). Finally a lady arrived, looking rather vexed that I was back. She snapped "There's 5 of you, so that takes a long time, you'll have to wait" Sure, so like double what you originally told me? We were kind of between a rock and a hard place in terms of food options so we stayed and waited. Finally, we were seated. The same lady who snapped at me came to take our drink order. Three of us got a hot black tea. After what seemed like an unusually long time to get a hot tea, she comes back with tepid water and a nasty container with a collection of old teas of questionable provenance and expiration dates. Gross! The breakfast itself was another disaster, somehow the cook could not get the temperature right to fry the onions. The onions were completely burned and made the entire omelette bitter. The pancakes were ok, I think I made those same ones last week from a box. Last but not least...the bathrooms. Sweet lord save this place and bless them with cleanliness. The bathroom reeked and was vile & filthy. After I saw that, I was so disappointed I didn't save my appetite for later when we got to the next town. It appears there is a market here during the summer for a good restaurant that is clean, kind & delicious. Sadly this one isn't any of those. read more

Great breakfast! I've tried the Country Omelet - which is a large serving omelet with excellent sausage gravy on top. Also tried the Pirate's Bounty which is their everything in the sink style hash browns - fried country potatoes, bacon, ham, sausage, etc. Small place, great service. read more

Perhaps breakfast is good, but we just had lunch and won't be back. The Turkey Rueban was supposed to have cheese, which I couldn't find and there was very little turkey as well. My husband had a BLT and at the most there were 3 slices of bacon. read more

Actually, this so called "best restaurant in town" isnt even located in Frankfort and it sucked. Ive had better seaood chowder out of a Kroger soup can. Menu is quite boring with absolutely no thought put into it. For breaktfast find the nearest Dennys and youll be better off...at least they will have fresh fruit. read more

Stopped in at 1:00 for a late lunch. Just so-so food. Chicken soup was a bit flavorless, fish sandwich was okay but nothing special. You'll find us here most Sundays for brunch, this is our "Cheer's" without the beer. Yes, it can be busy (that says something, right there!) especially in the summer months. The food is mostly; good, basic, home style cooking. Comfort food. The specialty hash browns, OMGoodness, wonderful! Expect to take some home even if you only do the half order. When they aren't super busy they will customize orders if you ask nicely (they made (!) frosting to go with my cinnamon roll pancakes.) Gluten free bread, and the cranberry walnut toast is a treat. Children are welcome. Smaller orders for those who don't want as much. A wonderful way to support local business. If you want crepes with china and a white linen table cloth you'll be disappointed. read more

We ended up here when another nearby place we wanted to eat at was closed. That turned out to be very good luck for us! At first I wasn't sure, because the waitress didn't seem very friendly (I guesses that she didn't like kids, since our nine year old son was with us). But she warmed up to us (my son is a doll - everyone says so, not just his mom, lol). Oh my! My husband's omelet was perfect. My son's koegel Viena (if you're from The Mitten, you know what I'm talking about) was grilled just right. But the best of all was the PERFECT olive burger - lean, perfectly grilled patty, grilled bun, melted cheddar and grilled - YES GRILLED - green olives!! And they were overflowing onto my plate! I eat burgers maybe 3-4 times a year, so what a treat to get one so perfect!!!! I highly recommend this place.
