I got keys made here, they did a fine job with some keys that hardware stores struggle with for some reason. Mailbox keys, Yale front door keys, car keys--they can do a lot! The shop is kind of gross in a weird building surrounded by the oil sales people. It's just as bad inside as outside. Adorning the floors were dead roaches and mouse droppings, so it was kind of disgusting. But I'm not taking off stars since they made my keys fast! Also, adding to the overall ambiance, a door next to the keyshop was boarded over. It was kind of funny it was so badly done. i was having trouble getting a key into my front door lock. Von was friendly and easy to communicate with, first by phone and then text. Before coming over, he first secured a replacement lock in case that would prove necessary. When he got to my house, he was able to diagnose a misalignment between the lock and the door jam as well as identify loose door hinges as another contributor to the problem. Love this place. I had lost one of the two programmable keys for my car. The dealer wanted $230 for a new one, other locksmiths wanted $160 for it. After a nightmarish episode with a different locksmith, I called these guys. Their rates were BY FAR the cheapest in DC. They only charged $75 total, no hidden fees. Other estimates that I got were as high as $150 PER DOOR or $105 (for the service call and the actual lock). *Do not call Locksmith4You.com, they are the devil. they have a really low service call fee, $35, and then try to charge $150 per door. I recently had the pleasure of doing business with Vonfranklin Marshall of Locked Out List Keys LLC (also the Lil Key Shop). He was TERRIFIC. I have an aging car but I love it and am not ready to get rid of it yet. This means I am having to fix lots of things these days. The most recent problem was a broken ignition. The wonderful guys at Distad's Service Station (9th and Penn SE) referred me to Von and he was great. He removed the ignition, fixed it, removed the chip from my old worn out key and put it in a newly cut key. Everything works perfectly now. From what I understand from mechanics and friends who have had to deal with this, he saved me hundreds of dollars and even more hassle by making it possible for me to avoid replacing the entire ignition.
