    Lamb shank dreaminess!
    Clara S.

I've frequented this pub twice now and was certainly won over first time round when we won the pub quiz (Sunday nights) at the very first time of asking! I knooow! Straight up, jackpot, £50 bar tab thanking youuu! Given that we were already slightly, uh, tipsy and two of the team of four live in Glasgow, it was decided that the fourth team member and I should come back on our own and blow the winnings on a fancy meal for ourselves. Fair enough! We got sat next to the fireplace which was lovely and cosy for a wet washout of a February eve - and the food was greeeeat too! Even though it's part of the (small) Geronimo pub chain, it has a very individual and independent feel to it, and the menu is changed regularly in line with seasonal and local availability. I had the lamb shank which was so tender and just fell off the bone... Dreamy! Only bettered by rounding it off with the sticky toffee pudding, which was the perfect way to send me home with a smiling face and a very full belly.

Popped in for a quick pint and a snack. A nice warm pub on a cold day. The staff are friendly and the snack is good: a wild boar sausage roll and a pint of Young's Bitters. It's a nice bright bar on the corner of a residential street. A pint was under 5 pounds. I'm sitting on a beat up leather sofa: nice and comfortable.

I tried the house ale, the Pineapple Ale, which I enjoyed. For my meal, I had the Thai Dim Sum (fried prawns and pork) and the Pad Ka Prow (Prawns with garlic, chillies, onions, mixed vegetables and Thai basil). The food was good with a good amount of spiciness without being overwhelming. I liked the abundance of natural light that illuminated the establishment.

Where else can you get Thai food and local craft beer at a pub in the UK or anywhere else!? The decor is just shabby chic with a pub twist. As you walk in, you'll see the bar right away and that's where you order and pay for your food & drinks. Each room has an unique seating area with furniture that you may find at grandmas...haha! There are two levels and a garden area where you can dine with beautiful foliage, plus a covered patio area with glass surround. They have board games too! Good selection of craft beer on tap and wine, and the Thai is pretty good too (4 stars)...except the portions a little smaller then what I'm use to in the US, but for a pad se ew and a half pint it was just under £10!! Lots of locals here of all age range, great ambience, tasty Thai food, and great craft beer :) What else can one ask for!? I will definitely come back if I'm ever in the area. Cheers!!!

We ordered salt and pepper squid, scotch egg, fish and chips and the ultimate burger with sweet potato fries. The food took quite a long time to come - probably as it was busy. There was also a whiff of dishwasher/cleaning fluid in the air as the kitchen directly opens up onto the seating area. When the food arrived I fell in love with the warm scotch egg, however, I wasn't very keen on the fish and chips. I felt like it lacked crucial flavour and crispness. The pricing isn't too bad for the heart of Highgate and I would probably go there again - I just wouldn't order the fish and chips.

Out of the many great pubs to choose from in Highgate The Angel Inn is one of my favourites so we headed over. It's a lovely, cosy place, with original 1930's wood paneling and gorgeous open fires mixed with trendy couches and tasseled lampshades hanging over the bar. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, and during the day you will find anyone from 20-somethings to families with babies and dogs all enjoying a drink. The music is usually good too (think Mumford and Sons and old classics such as Portishead) creating a nice, chilled out ambience. Whilst in the evening, it becomes more bar-like and large groups reserve tables for various celebrations. For me though, the food is the main attraction, and if you like pub food you will not be disappointed. Everything here is served up in hearty and delicious portions, from "Cumberland Sausages and Mash" to "Pork Belly, Sauteed Leeks and Bacon Mash", it's all scrumptious and served promptly with a smile. What can I say, it appeals to both the Yorkshire and Greek in me. The bar men are very friendly and polite too so if you add them to the amazing food, great drinks (this is one of the only places I can find bottled raspberry beer) and a great venue, it certainly deserves the title of a fantastic local. Top Tip: The Sunday Roast is to die for.

In that area, you go up and order and they bring out your food. Easy. Supposedly. First, they were out of almost everything we tried to order. My husband and I ordered a starter for the table and it came out first. Then our companions got their food - and the two of us waited for our mains. And waited. And waited. Watching as so many people after us got their food. We checked in at the 45 minute mark. Still no food. Finally at the hour mark, we asked to speak to a manager as our friends were already done with their meal. A manager came over and told us that the wait was our fault because we had ordered a starter for the table, our mains would automatically come out 50 minutes later. It was "the system". No attempts to apologize that our food was so late or that our friends were done with their entire meal. No attempts to make things right or to comp us a drink (we had bought two bottles of wine at this point). The food finally came out and it was good (i had the roast chicken and my husband had fish and chips). We were so hangry that anything would have been good. No attempt to check back or apologize or any of it. I guess they got what they wanted as our friends ended up buying more drinks to sit with us. So in short: attractive place, decent food but lousy service. If you're in a group, don't be the nice ones to order the starter for the table. You'll be penalized.
