Waterloo location. Sat at table but had to move, manager sat near there calling out to employees. Phone ordering not working. Went to bar to order, Barman wouldn't take order without a table number, I turned saw a table number but barman had walked off. Continued for another 25 mins to order via phone. Finally, with no phone success, I ordered at bar. Someone took my table. I sat at an adjacent table, waiter took my order to original table, I called out to him that was my order, he did not hear me. You won't find a purple colour stallion with glittered horns here. Totally worth checking in because of the word Unicorn It's a lovely neighbourhood bar/restaurant at Kentish Town. Big space, friendly and attentive staff, there's a beer garden and a fire place too. Win! Food is typical London prices. Sunday roast ranges from £15 - £19. Food is okay, lovely presentation but the roast is average. I had the lamb, and it was a little dry, wasn't hard to cut or chew.. Just not mind blowing. I've frequented this pub twice now and was certainly won over first time round when we won the pub quiz (Sunday nights) at the very first time of asking! I knooow! Straight up, jackpot, £50 bar tab thanking youuu! Given that we were already slightly, uh, tipsy and two of the team of four live in Glasgow, it was decided that the fourth team member and I should come back on our own and blow the winnings on a fancy meal for ourselves. Fair enough! We got sat next to the fireplace which was lovely and cosy for a wet washout of a February eve - and the food was greeeeat too! Even though it's part of the (small) Geronimo pub chain, it has a very individual and independent feel to it, and the menu is changed regularly in line with seasonal and local availability. I had the lamb shank which was so tender and just fell off the bone... Dreamy! Only bettered by rounding it off with the sticky toffee pudding, which was the perfect way to send me home with a smiling face and a very full belly. read more

I only went for a drink and have not eaten there, however I like this place! It has this mellow feel which in the rough area of Kentish Town is light relief. The decor has a slightly faded pattern, not because of age, but seemingly because of design which creates it's mellow feel. All in all this is a tonic to the harsh modern starkness of many designs. Also there are murals and decor with a really fun sense of humour but without any ludeness I left feeling refreshed and relaxed like I had been in an oasis of calm. The customers also seemed happy so I would love to return. read more

Popped in for a quick pint and a snack. A nice warm pub on a cold day. The staff are friendly and the snack is good: a wild boar sausage roll and a pint of Young's Bitters. It's a nice bright bar on the corner of a residential street. A pint was under 5 pounds. I'm sitting on a beat up leather sofa: nice and comfortable. read more

Lovely pub. Lovely lovely lovely. Great ales on tap. Theatre upstairs! Theatre! Often short(ish) punchy original theatre. Good stuff. I really want this to be a four star pub - and as the pub goes, it's great. The food, unfortunately, just isn't quite up to scratch. Chips are well-planned, but poorly executed (clearly made from actual potatoes, but inconsistent - either over- or under-cooked, and a touch greasy). I had a special, which was a lovely onglet that came with bone marrow and the aforementioned chips along with a few sprigs of watercress. The steak was actually rather good. Rare but cooked just enough. A touch too much salt. The bone marrow was competent - one of the bones was a bit overdone, but greasy chips plus fatty marrow plus steak = needs something else to cut all the oil, and the few sprigs of cress doesn't do it. There's a reason why bone marrow is normally served with crusty bread: it needs it. It couldn't function on chips and by the end I was overfatted. The ale selection is good - 3 solid standards and two unusual breweries. I'd go back, and probably will up-rate to four stars. I wish I'd just not gotten the food. read more

The food was fair enough for the price, but my colleagues and I were plagued with lots of other no-no's. They ran out of gammon, then they ran out of crackling, then they didn't have the pickled egg either. How jokey. I had to ask three times if they had the aforementioned crackling, just to find out they were out. My lamb sausage was solid, but the chips left me wanting and the presentation was nil. My friend's fish sandwich had bones in it. What the hell. He mentioned this to the waiter, who surprisingly mentioned it to another staff; this resulted in nothing and nobody seemed to give a damn. This review would have been more favorable if we didn't run into countless roadblocks while dining here. read more

Really enjoyed the play we saw in the small theatre upstairs here last night (Killing Romeo) and time spent in the pub and eating area. It's a very friendly pub with two outdoor areas (come on summer!) and a spacious indoor drinking and eating area. The back garden looked like a particularly nice place to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon - all luscious and green. Several decent ales on tap and all the usual. I'd give the pub 4 stars but...We had dinner here too which was pretty good and reasonably priced although the chips (and a couple of the dishes) left a little to be desired - of the three portions our group had they were either over or slightly undercooked, either way a bit too greasy. The burger was tasty though and cooked just right. Don't think I'd be running back for the food but it's a lovely spot for a few drinks or a bit of theatre! c* read more

I ended up here to support an am dram performance, and man, is it lovely! Pale sage-y decor, light but homely, and it's pretty big. Lovely good pub, there's plenty of outdoor seating too, which isn;t uncomfortable. The theatre is lovely, quite small, but great for quirky theatre, with stepped seating. Good beer and ales on tap, and the food is excellent! Even the sausage rolls are homemade, served with dollops of mustard and salad. Even with a theatre full of thesps and guests, there was still plenty of seating, and it was packed in a bustling local kind of way, rather than sweaty underground, "oh no, did i just brush that lady's boob?!" Great neighbourhood local. Food is good and beer selection is OK. The Big Chief IPA from Redemption is one of the few English (not American) IPA's around and they usually have it. Very friendly place as well and great seating inside and outside. The only thing that puts me off is that it's a bit on the pricey side. The Lion & The Unicorn is not the poshiest pub in Kentish Town, but that doesn't mean you cannot have a good time in there. They have pool tables, darts, big screen and a theatre next door! The range of beers is the usual and they have both outside seating and a beer garden; and as it is not placed in the main street it is usually much quieter than other pubs in the area. read more

TRAP FOR A LONELY MAN by Robert Thomas REMOTE GOAT This psychological thriller is hardly Giant Olive fare, a company that concentrates on innovative productions, but this is the work of the visiting Terra Incognita Theatre Company. This was written by French writer Robert Thomas in the sixties and I think most of the problems with this production could be laid at the door of the translators and the fact that the young director doesn't have enough experience with this kind of stylized work. Nevertheless it works brilliantly in spite of its shortcomings and it is no surprise to find that the script had been considered as a movie production by Alfred Hitchcock. It would make a wonderful nail biting film. Briefly Daniel Corban (Joe Shefer) has lost his wife. They had only been married for three months and after a honeymoon in Venice, they rented a chalet in the French Alps for an extra holiday. A couple of days after their arrival they had an argument and Elizabeth Corban disappeared. Now Daniel is giving the information to a police inspector (Tom Carter) who doesn't seem to take it all that seriously it happens all the time around Chamonix apparently. Later a strangely smooth priest Father Maximin (Andy Solts) appears bringing with him a young woman who purports to be Madame Corban, Daniel's missing wife (played by Amy Son). Daniel insists that he has never seen her before in his life. However, the girl is totally convincing and when she is interrogated by the Inspector is able to come up with all the right answers about Elizabeth and Daniel's marriage etc. From then on the plot becomes more and more complicated with Daniel getting more and more bewildered. Is he crazy, suffering from lost memory or is he the victim of an elaborate confidence trick. The plot thickens when two witnesses are produced an artistic tramp played by Steve Cain and a severely prim nurse played by Denys Gaskill. These two characters bring a little light relief into the tense atmosphere created by the rest of the company. This is a really gripping psychological thriller and the audience stays riveted to the very end when the astonishing denouement is revealed. A real treat for any hot summer evening! read more

The bar staff were slow, stroppy and made me feel like I shouldn't be there. it was 24th August 2016. Only three members of staff were ever visible. The one man serving was very rude. Even when I attempted light small talk he gave me (slang) screw face. I had to wait at the bar for 20-25 mins, tough only three to four people were waiting to be served. Most tables were full of empty glasses and at one point I was told I had to wait for my order as they had no glasses. After talking to friends who were in the venue two nights before me I was told that this is not a one off. All in all I would not recommend this venue. read more
