Fun, quirky little shop with tons of jewelry, gifts, and sweet little things from a few different ethnic backgrounds. I especially thought the little wall with pocket saints, the little Mexican Saint's wallets, and a sorta randy candy on the front display case. (don't want to get banned from here, so look for it!). Tons of jewelry and gift ideas, especially for people who love jewelry and sentimental stuff or things with a story. Unique and beautiful gemstone jewelry. Staff and owner are knowledgeable and helpful. A visit is an amazing experience.

This is the sort of store I tend to love, because they tend to sell sterling silver gemstone jewelry, which is a weakness for me. I was somewhat disappointed in their selection, though. First what I found was silver plated, not sterling, but I found in the cases they had some sterling pieces. Most of it was rings and earrings, though I think they had a few necklaces and bracelets. There was citrine (not really my favorite, but can be lovely), moonstone, peridot, garnet, and a bit of amethyst; there may also have a few others. Some of the items they had came in the same setting with different stones. The two women working seemed friendly enough; one offered to get out anything I may have been interested in looking at but otherwise they weren't pushy or anything. Stumbled in here, spent $188, just to find out the butterfly necklace is actually from shein. the shop owner told me some made up story about a jeweler that makes multiple pieces in her shop from somewhere outside of the US... yeah turns out it's just shein jewelry. super disappointing to find this out, especially considering i thought i was supporting small artists and is the only reason i commit to the prices i paid. do better, stop scamming people. read more

Love, love, love this little shop. It's full of jewelry and fancy little bags...think Judith Lieber replicas. Prices are good, and owner is very nice. I always stop in when I'm in Otr. Attended a charity function where the auctioneer had a beaded purse that had $10,000 on it and she gave it to a $10,000 donor. I asked where she got it, and she wouldn't tell me. I found it here, and it wasn't $10,000 either. So now I have the bag! Ha. Stop in and have a look....you'll be glad you did. read more

My boyfriend and I were waking around in over the fine looking for things to do and a place to eat when we stumbled along the little Mahatma. The window was so beautifully decorated in jewelry and purses and bling that I had to stop in. We were pleasantly greeted and bought a couple rings and I liked the place so much that I brought my best friend the next day and we bought a couple more blingy rings. I use to live close to the store and I never knew it was there and apparently they have been in the same location for almost fifteen years. Sorry it took so long to find you. First, I've been shopping at The Little Mahatma for over 25 years. I used to buy from Gloria when the shop was basically a closet in The Carew Tower. Today, I stopped by to treat myself to some new amethyst earrings to match an amethyst ring that I had previously purchased at this store. When I went to pay for my item, I was told that I was going to be charged a 3.5% surcharge fee because I was using a credit card. Yes, I know that fees are charged to businesses for the privilege of being able to accept credit cards for payment. I'm sure that those fees add up. However, you anticipate that fee and price the items in your store accordingly to compensate. I had two debit cards in my wallet as well, which would have not incurred a fee, but honestly, it left such a bitter taste in my mouth that I just walked out of the store without purchasing the earrings. I will not be back. There are just too many places to buy unique jewelry--both online and brick and mortar stores--to justify an extra fee for using a common form of payment. I've spent hundreds of dollars over the years at The Little Mahatma, but today was my last visit. ***Please note that the two salespeople were perfectly lovely. This is one of the most unique shops in the Gateway Quarter. The items within have a Middle Eastern vibe to them and are absolutely beautiful. When you first walk in you are greeted by the strong smell of incense and a friendly salesperson. They have jewelry, scarves, decorative items, tarot cards, and gifts for anyone you could think of. I won a gift card to the store and my fiance had been wanting to get tarot cards so we made a visit. Their tarot cards happened to be 50% off that day (what a deal!) and they even had tarot cards for dummies, which is exactly what we needed. Because of the bargain we were also able to buy some incense so now our apartment smells lovely! I was disappointed that their hours did not match what was listed on their website and door. We arrived with what we thought was an hour left before the store closed but was told, very nicely, that the store was closing right then. I stumbled into this store one day while wandering around downtown as a teenager. It's not a very well known store, and in my opinion doesn't have a great location as it's tucked away on the first floor of the Carew Tower away from the mall and away from other stores. This store is also SOOOO small. I mean literally about an 8' x 8' box. All over all of the walls is tons of stuff and then a tiny desk with cash register in the middle. Inside the tiny box is a huge selection of Indian themed jewelry, clothing, decorations, incense, and accessories. I love the rings that they have here, about eight years ago I bought a silver ring with what they called a moonstone in the middle. It's almost like an opal but with a little more glimmer and color. I still have the ring and wear it often even though the silver has bent a little over time to form to my finger! read more

Very nice jewelry, but the customer service left something to be desired. The woman working here requested that we not open the unlocked cupboards and said she would help us, then proceeded to help multiple other customers that came in after us. When we requested her help again, she spoke badly about us to other customers and acted annoyed. It was very unprofessional and unfortunate considering the product at this store is something that I would have otherwise purchased. read more

I am sad to hear that Little Mahatma is moving to Clifton, but I think they may do well there. Where it is now in the Gateway Quarter, is its third location in the downtown area. I started getting stuff there when it was in its first location which was a very tiny shop in the Carew tower. The owner travels all over the world to buy unique one of a kind jewelry. I tend to buy jewelry only when I travel or a craft shows, so it has the type of jewelry I would tend to buy. Some of their items are very inexpensive, but I have found from the jewelry I have bought during travels, some of my most inexpensive jewelry I get the most compliments on. They do have some better pieces too, but nothing that is overly expensive. If I cannot figure out another present for my nieces this is my place to go to. If you get something there there is little chance anyone else in Cincinnati or even I would think the US will have the same piece. I have to limit my visits there since when I am there I am very tempted to buy something for myself which I don't really need. read more
