It is indeed a little theater. Not sure how many seats, but I'd say it's less than 50. I like little theaters, this one is OK, The seats are wood and my seat had a downward slope to it so I was constantly sliding forward. They aren't very comfortable, so hopefully, the show you go to see there won't be too long, or they'll have several intermissions! Also, the bathroom is behind the stage, where the performers are. Not good. Really bad setup. I said bathroom, singular. You can have a long wait. Street parking is surprisingly easy and abundant...and FREE after 6pm. I'd say that's the best thing the Little Theater has going for them. I'd say overall, three stars is just about right for The Little Theater. It's an OK place to see a play. We just saw Pinocchio. Nice try, the theater is small enough that kids are all kind of close to the 'action' . Sound is good. Several problems: 1. My biggest problem, the ringmaster is too scary. I mean even when he was dressed up as sweet old Gepetto ( he played both characters), his voice was way too loud and his eyes unnecessarily intense. He kind of looked high. The dreadlocks and humongous beard didn't help, neither did his bad memory apparently,... It seemed like he kept forgetting his lines. 2. The clown was creepy, creepy,... Very. I mean extremely. 3. The drunk scenes and bottles of alcohol seemed a little too much for the kids. 4. Did you have to include 'stupid kids'so many times in the dialog? My daughter kept tapping me and saying 'mama they said stupid again' they recommend it for 3-5 years old, come on. 5. The were a ton of scary parts, not for tiny little ones. Nobody wanted to take pictures afterwards. Cricket is adorable though! She does know what she's doing. Pinocchio and the tiger or cat are okay, so is the fairy. read more

Small theatre just perfect for kids and their attenion span. Every seat is great and perfect viewing, if you have little one's you can bring snacks to occupy them till the show starts. The down side to this rendition of the book is terribly interpreted. I was expecting puppets like the book. Then the story went a totally different way that lost the interest of the little one and the content was not appropriate for a child who does not understand all this unnecessary stuff they are performing. read more

I have only been to this theater twice, but so far, so good. I've brought my 2 toddlers with just me each time (ages 1 and 2). They've both been going to the theater since they were under a year old and they get the hang of sitting still for about 1 hour (with snacks to keep them still). This is a good place for very young children to learn how to behave at the theater because it's so small and affordable...if they're very antsy during a performance, you can leave without wasting too much money. It's kind of tough to find theater performances on a regular basis for children (except during the month of December when EVERY theater in LA county has a kids' performance). This theater changes titles often and it seems that there's always at least 1 or 2 children's productions happening each month. Pros: 1. 45-90minute productions (easy for young kids) 2. Affordable (I can also usually find an online promo code for 50% off or order same-day "rush tickets" for $5-$7) 3. Small and intimate, nothing fancy (so my toddlers can watch while eating a snack) 4. The performances we've seen have been well done! At least well done enough for me and my 2year old, who will talk about the productions months later. We've only seen Pinocchio and Jack and the Bean Stalk so far (I believe the title was a slight variation of that). Both were good, we liked Pinocchio best. We're going to see 2 more this month, so I will update my review then if needed. I felt the other review of Pinocchio was too harsh...OR maybe the actors read that review and made some changes? I heard "stupid kids" 3 times (I counted because I had read the other review before going) and it wasn't shouted at all. Stromboli was great IMO. He didn't look drunk or on drugs or anything like that. I watched the Disney production later and I actually think the cartoon version is much scarier. All the actors in Pinocchio were darling. Cons: 1. This place opens up a few minutes before the plays start. I've never reached a live person by phone. Sometimes their website is down, so we've missed some shows since I usually buy my tickets for same-day performances (my toddlers are too unpredictable to plan things far in advance) 2. Poor parking situation (Street). One time I went without a stroller. NEVER Again. We had to park 3 blocks away, which was brutal with a 1 and 2 year old, plus a huge diaper bag. I prefer Sunday shows - parking seems easier to find, and the meters are free. 3. Seating is tight (but the actual seats are comfortable). It's a small theater. This kinda thing doesn't bother me too much though. If I want something fancy, I expect to pay for it. I'd rather have a lower-budget experience where I can feed my kids snacks and not worry about spilling some water or a few crumbs. 4. The bathroom is behind the stage. So you'd have to walk past the actors during the performance and use the bathroom! read more

Where do I begin..... The Little Theater was a fun and entertaining experience. My girlfriend and I went to see the rendition A Charlie Brown Christmas and it was great. As a big fan of Charlie Brown, the play hit the major points of that Charlie Brown special. It made me laugh and in enjoyed myself. This place can be for kids and adults but just don't expect a full on Pantages theater production. It is a small yet great play to see a small and entertaining production.. I would definitely come back again. Parking isn't bad if you know your way around the local neighborhood.. read more

This theater is great!! On the weekends they have children's productions, usually a musical sing a long. I have seen several productions there. My cousin took my nephew to their newest play, "Wag Your Tail," and he had a ball!!! The show is about two best friend dogs and the trouble they get into. The performers were so alive and full of energy! A must see for the little ones!! read more

On the night of 28JUN13, my wife and I drove out to Santa Monica through one hour of traffic only to find a find an open back door to this empty theater and nobody at all inside. No audience. No actors. No ticket agent. No security. We arrived 15 minutes early and waited until the 8PM showtime of Red, White, and Burlesque Review. 2 other guys (1 army veteran) from Ventura showed up with tickets who were also in disbelief. We checked with the neighboring kids playground business and the employee there explained that this hasn't been the first time. He stated that there have been numerous times of people showing up and no show at this theater. Pretty upsetting with no posted notice of this scheduled and canceled show. We tried calling the theater phone number and it was just a recording without any info on this scheduled and canceled show. Not sure how these people stay in business. This is a first for us. I recommend anyone call ahead to verify if they plan on going to this theater (if they can get a hold of a live person). Would be good practice to do the same with any tickets you buy online. Thanks to you "The Little Theater" for donating me these tickets, canceling this show without any notice, ruining a date night with my wife, and a poor start to 4th of July celebrations. The theater is nice but the performance was not for kids. When to see "three bully goats gruff" and got a really bad social message that none if the kids would even understand. they really need to re-read the kids book. I would say just take your kids to the La zoo or park, they will have a better time there. read more

I don't usually write reviews but I decided to do it . We , me , my son and husband went there a Saturday noon to see the little red riding hood . So disappointed !!! 1- the history was all changed for a wired kind of history , where little red riding hood has lots of attitude to her mom , say bad things about grandmother , is like a mean person from the bottom to the top . 2 - the wolf is like a politically correct person who share flowers . Soooo boring . 3 - I took a folder at my son's Montessori school and as shown in the folders seamed to be the traditional history not something weird , disrespectful and totally out of context . I almost asked for my money back because of that . 4 - they try to show some environmental education , ok but if I wanted my son to get that I wouldn't go to see the little red riding hood at a random weird theater . We had tickets to see Rudolph yesterday 12/26 and The Giving Tree today 12/27. Yesterday when we arrived at the theatre we were informed that it would be a short rendition due to actors being caught in Holiday madness. We were ensured that we would be given comp tickets for another show and were asked to provide our email addresses so that they could contact us. Even though we adults could clearly tell the narrator did not know the script (she was probably filling in), the show was cute and the children enjoyed themselves. Today's show was cancelled completely. We arrived at the theater and were told that the actor had called in on an emergency so we could provide our email address to receive comp tickets. I explained what happened to us the day before and said that they should have posted shows were canceled on their website. I drove all the way from Gardena and my children were excited to see their favorite book come to life. I just feel like it's some sort of a scam. And if it's not then they should have understudies to fill in when emergencies happen especially during the holiday season. read more

The Little Theater, Santa Monica, CA -The Wind in the Willows - 11:00 AM Sunday 3/20/2016 Initial Impressions: 1 Star - Arrived at 10:45 AM, no activity and door was locked. About 10:53 the door was finally opened and was told that the show would be at 11:00 due to actors being caught in traffic (personally experienced very light Sunday traffic coming in from the San Fernando Valley). About 11:05 the door opened and the small crowd was told that the show would be at 11:30 and we were let in after another 5 minute wait. The show did begin about 11:20. Theater: 2.5 Stars - Seats 49 with only about 20 in attendance for this performance. Seating was comfortable enough. The "stage" is a fairly small open area in front of the tiered seating. Acting: 2.5 Stars - As a group, the 5 actors performance was satisfactory for young children. Costumes were appropriate for children to identify with (except my 5 year old thought that the badger looked more like a skunk, which I agreed with). There was no audience children stage involvement in this production. Afterwards the actors were very friendly when posing with children for pictures. Props: 1.5 Stars - Almost non-existent and the ones that there were did not impress. Overall: 2 Stars - The overall experience was a little less satisfying than several other children's plays that we have attended in the past year. read more

Cute, intimate theatre. Saw "Wag your Tale" this Saturday (Sept. 22) and loved it! The children in the audience were mesmerized as the characters on stage were funny and larger than life. The little girl next to me had a giggling fit at one point, and could not stop laughing. Too cute! All in all, a fun production and very talented cast. Take your kids - they'll love it! We went to see the Reluctant Dragon with our son, daughter-in-law and 5 year old grandson. From the advertisement, I was really expecting something better. This was kind of like a very short high school play, in terms of quality. The only good part was that the children could come up and meet the characters on the stage at the end. On 1/24 I purchased tickets to see Cinderella at 7pm on 2/7 per an email that I received from the theater. This was our first time purchasing tickets and my 4 year old was very excited. So this past Sat 2/7 we got dressed up, my daughter in a lovely black dress, drove in the rain, 30 miles to have dinner and then see the show. Only when we arrived at the theater the doors were locked. I quickly checked the website to see that the Sat night shows were at 8pm so we waited an hour as I thought I had made a mistake. At 8pm the doors were still locked. My husband helped me research things a little and we found that the original email sent said Cinderella was showing Jan 31 - March 8. Then on the website it said Cinderella was showing Feb 28 - April 5 at 7pm. I've disputed the charges with my bank to get a refund. I do have a paypal receipt showing that I purchased tickets for Cinderella on 2/7 at 7pm. I've sent emails, sent facebook messages and have left messages on the voicemail and have had no response what so ever. I'm very disappointed and frustrated and heartbroken that what was supposed to be a very special night for me and my daughter was ruined. I'd at least appreciate some sort of explanation instead of simply feeling like I was robbed. read more

Based on the negative reviews I almost didn't try out this lovely little theater, the latest positive review gave me hope so off I went with my husband and my just turned three-year-old to see Pinocchio. And I'm really glad we did. We went on a Sunday, got tickets half off using a coupon code on the theater site, parking on the street was easy and free. They sell snacks and juice boxes for only a $1 each at the theater which is great for kids. We sat in the second row close to the action and my son really enjoyed it, he kept leaning forward and giggling as the actors did their parts. The actors were wonderful, they sang, encouraged audience participation, moved all along the stage and up and down the aisles for parts of the show keeping it interesting even for the wiggliest of kids (my kid hadn't napped and yet stayed pretty interested the entire hour). Overall we thought it was a great show, magical and lovely, not the way the negative reviews made it out to be (yes the Puppetmaster was holding an empty bottle of champagne and he and the Fox said "Stupid kids" but they're the bad guys! :-) There was no clown and Geppetto had short gray hair, perhaps the show was revised. Oh and the seats were not wood, they were fabric cushioned theater seats, comfy). We're already planning on going to see The Giving Tree and some of their other upcoming shows. Great way to introduce theater to kids without having to worry about them getting vocal or wiggly. Bravo LA Little Theater! read more
