Have not personally stayed at the Lodge since we own a cabin - previously 1st Calvary tent a few blocks away. However, it was a goal to check out the lodge so that I could attest to others on its history. Emily at the front desk was so nice as well as the manager. They allowed me to walk the hotel, have coffee and cookies, take in the historic site and relax. I asked could I see one of the rooms since online the pictures were great and they have kept the original look and feel. the manager said he had step better than a standard room. He handed me a key to look at the Governors suite (see video). I returned the next day after hiking to have lunch and peruse the gift shop. Prices are a little higher, however the food is pretty amazing. I split a burger and chips. Food is great in the bar area. Dinning opens in evening but requires reservations. Pets are allowed for Small fee There is a golf course across the parking lot. Majestic views and well kept greens. don't be surprised but if you find yourself golfing around the deer, elk or wild horses. If you're lucky, you may see snow which makes all that much more beautiful. There is rich history of the lodge hanging in the walls and in areas to read upon. This used to be timber country and the original lodge burned down years and years and years ago. While at the Lodge check out Cloudcroft museum to take in all the history that included the Lodge, baby sanatorium and 1st Calvary visits, where it all started this beautifully small town. read more

It's cute but I absolutely would not stay here again for the soul fact I was in the lower level and who ever was above me started pacing at 4am and never stopped till check out. The floors are so loud and creaky you hear every single step the person above you takes. I got maybe 3hrs of sleep. Don't stay here if you like quiet. read more

This review is for the restaurant at dinner. We did not stay at the hotel. I would suggest not eating dinner here. It's way over priced and not much food. I guess if you are rich and only care about presentation you will like it. My wife and I came here for our anniversary and it sucked. I couldn't be more disappointed. I got the elk and it had no flavor. The potato that came with it was terrible. My wife got chicken and it was awful also. Don't waste your money here at the restaurant. The Lodge is a beautiful, timeless spot that makes you wonder if time travel is possible. You can feel the history and tradition the minute you step into the lobby. For our family, that tradition goes back many, many years. My wife and I went for our anniversary lunch. We chose the venerable Lodge because we knew that Rebecca's would set the tone for the experience we were seeking. At noon the only seating is the bar and we knew that. The service was friendly and professional, and we enjoyed cocktails before lunch. Our entrees (Caesar Salad and Roast Turkey sandwich) were well-prepared and perfectly presented. I'm rounding my review from a 3.25 to a 4 instead of a 3 for the sake of honesty. My family has had a cabin in Cloudcroft for quite some time and we were so excited when the Duncan's took over the lodge. We've known them from their other hotels in West Texas and the restaurants they've helmed. It's always unfortunate that good help is so hard to come by these days and I truly believe that is the issue here. This review is only for Rebecca's restaurant and not the lodging or amenities since we only come to dine from our cabin as a treat. While the menu is limited, and the service is a hit or miss, this time the service was great but the food was sub par. My parents each ordered the Pistachio crusted Trout and I had the King Salmon Ceasar Salad. The salmon was very overcooked but I still enjoyed my salad. My parents plates were both very cold, almost chilled. The server discounted our ticket because of the quality of the food, although our bottle of Drumheller Cab was nice. Of course we'll be back even though we never truly know what to expect as we always want to support the local businesses of the village. read more

Don't golf at the Lodge. Their course marshall is more like a German Field Marshall. The instructions at the Lodge Golf Course begin with not a welcome but, "You can't" and "Don't". a long litany of what you better not do, resulting in our case, before we teed off on #1 with, "If you don't like my rules, you and your bitch can get off my golf course." It is a 9 hole course, they don't water much, it is a waste of money particularly given their rudeness and crudeness. read more

Charming. Historic. Ever so slightly shabby chic, as in built in 1911, but not run down. Old old luxury feel. It's warm and friendly, and I'll return in the summer to experience the golf course. Staying at the Lodge is almost like staying at a living museum. They still use an actual metal key for the rooms and the hotel is full of vintage mountain lodge charm. The drive to the lodge via 244 is a nice relaxing drive through high altitude mountains with meadows. We booked a special room but Omg the wind whistling through the window all night...... we did appreciate the heated floors in the bathroom. Our stay was all inclusive, we ate dinner at the restaurant in the lodge. I had the cowboy ribeye which was very good. We ate breakfast in the restaurant in the morning, it was a buffet with limited options but was good. We will be back! read more

The lodge is an older hotel that has been lovingly restored and is a surprise in the tiny town of Cloudcroft. Even with covid, they've managed to find good employees who are happy to be there, are attentive and friendly. At lunch, my dining companion had the Monte Cristo sandwich and reported it was delicious. Honestly it was one of the largest sandwiches I think I've ever seen! Since we were there on Saint Patrick's day, we had to share the greenvelvet cake. It's a very pretty little hotel, and I suggest stopping by if you are in Cloudcroft. read more

This is for the restaurant as we didn't stay at the hotel. I would like to give the food a 4.5 star rating, but unfortunately the service and management was about a negative 3. Our reservations were early at 6:45. We didn't get our food until 8:15, and in the interim we were told twice they were out of various items ordered by our 7 top table for a birthday celebration. (Pretty sure this restarted the clock on their re-firing every order together, and meanwhile other tables coming in well after us got their food and it appeared to be some of the "out of stock" dishes.. ) Since they ran out of certain dishes we asked if the individual's at our table who no longer had an order could order a burger from the "bar area" which is literally on the other side of the same room. Even tho it comes out of the same kitchen, we were told no, it would "impact their Michelin star rating." Possibly the worst insult to injury was when paying at the end we were reminded that "fine dining takes an hour to an hour and a half." Um.. yeah maybe total.. not to get the food. They also then accused us of trying to get free drinks when, as previously implied, would be comped. If you have the patience to watch paint dry and eat the wood chips after because there is no more food, this place is for you. Otherwise do not recommend until management improves. read more

This is a classic, historical resort and spa. It's iconic for the area and almost every New Mexican will recognize it! I love the gift shop and all of their local goodies! We have been here multiple times and came in today to have dinner at their beautiful restaurant, Rebecca's. The hotel is decorated for the holidays and it is stunning! Great location, beautiful weather! We loved the Lodge. However, the moths need to be removed! Our room was nice. However! They need to remove the moths, every night we had two to three flying around our room. Being Navy retired, I am a very light sleeper. And the insects got the better of me. I recommend staying upstairs as well. We had a downstairs room and we heard upstairs guest moving around constantly. We will visit again, staying upstairs and leaving a bathroom light on to attract the unwanted night time insects. We want to move there in the future! read more

Came here and saw the bar which was once owned by Al Capone! The drinks were nice and the bartender was super friendly. I walked into the gift shop area and greeted kindly there as well. There is a nice place outside where you can have a drink overlooking the mountains near a pool. The place also kind of had The Shining vibe to it. read more

Seriously racist restaurant staff. I'm white. My wife is 3rd Gen. American from Mexico. I grew up in rural Texas and I never lived in a big city until after law school. So I'm not particularly sensitive to racism or "Woke" or whatever but after more than a decade into a biracial marriage, you know it when you see it. I saw it here. Specifically, in the restaurant. We were treated differently (and rudely) straight from the "hello! we'd like a table" hostess conversation. After being left alone for an absurd amount of time to watch the very few other tables exclusively full of older Caucasian people get waited on, our waiter finally came over. I don't know his name (he never introduced himself) but he was white, thin, average height, slicked back hair, maybe late 30s. With no introduction and eyes never leaving the pad in his hand, he mechanically recited the the daily special at us sounding angry and annoyed. Once he finished, my wife asked for a few changes to the dish to accommodate her dietary needs (she's vegetarian). Apparently that was a mistake. He went right from annoyed to rude. His immediate response was to sharply and sternly tell us that there was no vegetarian option and he wouldn't consider any changes to any dish on the menu "At all." I'm talking simple stuff like substituting beans for the chicken in a quesadilla that already came with a side of beans. Not only so, but he very rudely refused to even ask (or even pretend to ask) the chef. I asked if I needed to go talk to the chef myself, or better yet a manager. He said something like "yeah good" and we left before he returned. We've never had a waiter be this rude to us, and we were very surprised to be treated this way in what is supposed to be a 5 star restaurant. In the off chance that I totally misread the whole racist thing, then the other option is that his service was so deplorable, so incompetent, and so utterly subpar that his gross dereliction of his basic job duties managed to project an illusion of bigotry without even trying. I'll never return to find out, and I encourage you to follow suit. read more

My husband and I were camping and traveling through new Mexico during new years. We decided to try to stay new years night in cloudcroft. My husband found this place and what a surprise. This place is gorgeous and plenty to do on the grounds. The staff were fantastic and even helpful on such a busy, hectic night for them. This place is very dog friendly. The hotel is historic, but beautiful. Most rooms are remodeled and very comfortable. I hope we can go back over the summer. read more

Huge disappointment! The first time I visited was 28 years ago and since then over the years I have been a handful of times. Sadly, this was my last time. One star was earned for the kind staff. This place is falling apart and any "repairs" that are in the making are ridiculous. How hard can it be to match paint? Clean mildew in showers, pull weeds? Driving through Cloudcroft we were getting tired, stopped for gas & the store clerk told us about the Lodge. So glad we stopped. Quaint piece of history. Comfy bed. Best rest we had on our 4 day trip! Beautiful country with a place to browse and shop called the board walk. We also had dinner at "Rebecca's" super yummy food. The beds are warped so you have to sleep feet to headboard. The pillows are not comfortable they feel like packing styrofoam. I had a sleepless night thinking Rebecca was going to get us! Did not enjoy my stay at the lodge Check is at 4 pm Room was very small and the bed was ridiculously high for my wife to get into. Over priced for what I expected as a getaway for my wife and I. Could not even enjoy TV on the wall was placed in an Awkward location Channels and reception very bad. Bathroom Water Pressure was very low for showering. Room was too small for the chairs we had in the room. No place to put our overnight luggage Had to pay for breakfast. I couldn't wait to leave We were better off renting a cabin, but I feel that also would depend. If people in Cloudcroft try to pass off old furniture as rustic accent. Unless you just want to stay outdoors and just crash in the evenings I say to anyone, pass on staying in Cloudcroft. read more

It's a very beautiful hotel and the history is very interesting. However, for $200.00 a night I would expect a clean room. After my family and I got unpacked and ready for bed we found a tick in the bed. Upon a closer inspection we found dirt in the bed. There was a crusty semen stain, there where other stains of unknown origin in the bed. It was obvious that no one changes the sheets. The front desk staff agreed to move us to a new room, and give us 15% off. We tried to talk to a manager but apparently a manager wouldn't be on duty for at least 3 days. (What kind of place doesn't have someone in charge?) The new room had clean sheets but I still found dried stains on the comforter. The toilet kept running and wouldn't flush properly. The toilet was clean but it had a grime on it that suggested it sat dirty for a long time. My wife emailed the manager 3 days later and we still don't have a response. Also, we never got the promised %15 credit. I would only visit during the day and not stay the night. The restaurant was really good and the service was great. Otherwise the hotel is really neat to walk though because of its history. read more

I was very excited to see them opening again, but unfortunately the experience was not what it used to be. I struggled to find healthy vegetarian options on the menu and the food I did order was quite under cooked. The service was a bit on the slow and inattentive side but I do understand the lack of staffing right now so that wasn't a huge deal. I noticed that they did raise their prices , understandably so, but the food quality did not match the price increase. I will continue to check the menu for new options and hopefully try and visit again after their remodel is finished. Atmosphere was nice as always though. read more
