However, it was a goal to check out the lodge so that I could attest to others on its history. Emily at the front desk was so nice as well as the manager. They allowed me to walk the hotel, have coffee and cookies, take in the historic site and relax. I asked could I see one of the rooms since online the pictures were great and they have kept the original look and feel. the manager said he had step better than a standard room. He handed me a key to look at the Governors suite (see video). I returned the next day after hiking to have lunch and peruse the gift shop. Prices are a little higher, however the food is pretty amazing. I split a burger and chips. Food is great in the bar area. Dinning opens in evening but requires reservations. Pets are allowed for Small fee There is a golf course across the parking lot. Majestic views and well kept greens. don't be surprised but if you find yourself golfing around the deer, elk or wild horses. If you're lucky, you may see snow which makes all that much more beautiful. There is rich history of the lodge hanging in the walls and in areas to read upon. This used to be timber country and the original lodge burned down years and years and years ago. While at the Lodge check out Cloudcroft museum to take in all the history that included the Lodge, baby sanatorium and 1st Calvary visits, where it all started this beautifully small town.

Oh my gosh. What a super cool hotel!…read more Sky Lodge vibes abound. Rooms are super clean, bathrooms are big, beds are spacious and incredibly comfy. Loved our stay here and if we're ever in the area, we'll definitely be back. They serve breakfast also but we didn't get up in time as these beds are just so wonderfully comfortable that we all slept in a bit too late on both days. This is probably one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at. Don't miss out!

I would give it a 3.5 star review…read more The hotel is pretty basic, the rooms are simple, nothing luxurious but it's a place to sleep. The showers in the rooms are nice though, very roomy. The breakfast they serve was pretty good too, they had sausage patties, country potatoes, scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy. Although I live in Cloudcroft, every so often my husband and I like to rent a hotel and take a break from our kiddos, haha. I've stayed in this hotel twice and the pricing has always been around $130-$170 a night, with military discount. They do charge you a deposit also, I believe it's an extra $100 that you will get back after your stay. I personally prefer staying at Dusty Boots simply because it's usually cheaper and the rooms have more character but they don't serve breakfast, they only give you a slice of banana bread they make at the cafe. The Grand Hotel also has garage parking in case you want your car protected from the elements, good option for those snowy days. If you are traveling with a large group of people I recommend you rent a cabin or an Airbnb, but if it's just one person or a small family of 3-4, this hotel will do just fine, the beds are comfy and they have good breakfast, besides you're in Cloudcroft, chances are you will spend most of your time away from your hotel room anyways. Side note: for you smokers out there, you can only smoke outside of the hotel in the parking lot, you can't smoke at the sitting patio areas regardless that they are outside.

We ordered pistachio crusted trout and most of their specials: vegetable de jour (Brussels sprouts) appetizer (Escargot), soup of the day (Green Chicken Chile pazole), and steak de jour (ribeye) with potatoes de jour (steak fries). For dessert, we opted for the raspberry sorbet which was light and satisfying. Make sure to ask about the keys to the tower, neat to check out and hopefully you can find Judy Garland name carved there! You take take a drink up their and enjoy the view.

But they didn't have several items on the menu, they weren't ready for our reservation and we had to wait for 15 minutes even though the place was half empty. We weren't told there was another menu for the bar. The fish fry was heavy, greasy, and I literally had only one bite before asking the waitress to take it back. The elk backstrap was good, but it was on sauce that was flavorless and bland, like a basic flour-butter-milk sauce. The fries were heavy and also greasy. It feels like a management issue...it just seemed as if there was disorder and stress among the staff, despite the empty seats when we arrived. Now--onto the positives--the place is BEAUTIFUL. Whatever money they are saving on the chef and restaurant, they have put into the restoration and maintenance of this historic gem. You expect to see Clark Gable and Judy Garland (former guests of this lodge) at the next table. There is a lovely bar room and a lovely room with three tables in front of a huge fireplace. Gorgeous. And if you sit outside, there's a sunset there with your name on it. So if this review were for the Lodge, it may have been great! But it's not for the lodge. It's for the restaurant. And they are not putting the energy (and $?) into 1899 that this valuable piece of history deserves.

It's a rustic but very nice, if not luxurious "cabin", although it's furnished like a home! It has 3 bedrooms including a master bedroom with a master bedroom bathroom. One of the rooms has bunk beds which my kid and grand kids loved! The main bathroom has a massive jacuzzi tub! The kitchen is fantastic and includes granite counter tops, a full size stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and it's fully stocked with everything you need to cook. There's even a full size washer & dryer which came in handy! The cabin is furnished with free WiFi, an HD TV, Blu-Ray Player and a small assortment of DVD's. The TV has some smart features including Netflix. The front porch is great. We spent a nice afternoon from the porch watching the rain. The back yard, and deck are wonderful, as they are furnished with a tables, chairs a fantastic hot tub, and BBQ Grill. The fenced back yard is great for the kids to explore and run around. When we were not out and about doing activities in town and the surrounding area, the cabin was a welcome fully furnished get away to relax, enjoy home cooked meals, play cards, watch TV, get in the hot tub, and even sleep. We made some great memories, including a visit from the local deer which come pretty close. On top of all that my granddaughter left a pair of blue jeans behind and they were kind enough to call me and insisted upon mailing them back. Now that's great customer service. I would definitely recommend this cabin. It' a bit of a windy, uphill drive to the cabin, but well worth it.

Towels had holes in them. Dried, old food around the house on the carpet. The hot tub only fits 4 vs the 8 they advertised. Everything but the flat screen tv in the living room is out of date. The pilot switch on the fireplace is finicky and after calling management for 24 hours, they finally sent someone to fix it. I can't figure out how to sleep 13. We only counted 11 spots. The location was great. Ruidoso was wonderful. I highly suggest Casa Rio pizza.
