We are back from our holiday hiatus and finally getting to report on a road trip to Cloudcroft, New Mexico, during the past Thanksgiving weekend. We came on a quite night and enjoyed a great meal. Our server, Beth, was very nice, prompt and attentive. For food, all the options were WONDERFUL! We ordered pistachio crusted trout and most of their specials: vegetable de jour (Brussels sprouts) appetizer (Escargot), soup of the day (Green Chicken Chile pazole), and steak de jour (ribeye) with potatoes de jour (steak fries). For dessert, we opted for the raspberry sorbet which was light and satisfying. My girlfriends and I came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. The service was good and everyone was attentive. We ordered the mozzarella and tomato appetizer and lobster bisque and trout for our main courses. The appetizer was bland and too sweet tasting. The lobster bisque was gray in color, had no lobster at all and was super salty. So much so, I had to send it back. Just left Rebecca's. I brought friends to eat the breakfast buffet they have on Saturday. I had eaten there a month ago and it was very good. We had called ahead of time to make sure they still had an omelette station and they said yes. When we got there no omelette station. The food was cold. The scrambled egg tray had been out so long the eggs were cold and hard. The biscuits were rock hard and the link sausage had to be cut with a knife they were so over done. VERY disappointing! Our friends said it was like eating a Holiday Inn free breakfast. Hopefully this was just a one time bad outing. Their new chef has done a good job of upgrading the menu. But this morning the staff dropped the ball and the diners suffered. read more

Delicious old-fashioned-so a shout out to the bartender, fantastic bread-a shout out to the baker....-salmon was good, although I would rethink the hollandaise sauce as I thought that was a bit weird -but the salmon was good -sliced potatoes were very overcooked, but seriously -that's not much of a criticism. And looking at the bar menu, I would actually stop there next time. Second shot here. (The first was amazing!!!) We went with a group of friends we were vacationing with in Cloudcroft. AMAZING. To the guy that claimed he's some kind of meat expert.... Chef or works at a grocery store..... -Hi Texas here, meat was perfect. If you don't like the cost head down the hill to Burger Queen. K. Thanks. Back to my review..... Ribeye... I deem myself an expert in this cut, and this was done to perfection. The ambience was exactly what we wanted, nice, classic fancy restaurant. Drinks- full of alcohol and mixed right. The hotel is amazing!! Lots of history and great views. The restaurant I don't recommend. My wife had salmon that was terrible and full of bones. I had the pecan fried chicken fried steak. Over cooked and not tender at all. They need a better selection of sides. Save your money, over priced and definitely not worth if. We love Cloudcroft!! read more

Disappointing experience. Placed two pick up orders during my week stay. The first time, they were out of both sides I requested so I just went with a side salad which was ok. The second time, they struggled to take my order and get it correct. I placed a simple order of a salad with an add on of grilled chicken and a drink. The chicken was the smallest, blandest, and saddest piece of chicken. For a whopping total of $20 plus bucks. I rarely call to complain, but I did this time. When I called they acted like they could care less and that they could not be bothered. Will not be back. There are much better choices for food in the area . read more

We stayed at Deerhead Campground and the lodge is just a couple miles up the road. We were seated promptly and our waitress brought ice water in a carafe. Why don't all restaurants do this? My husband I both ordered side salads and split a cheeseburger. The food was wonderful, our waitress checked on us several times and the ambience was delightfully historic. read more

What have they done. Food had gone downhill. The turkey, pesto, sandwich was tasteless. Mostly alphalha sprouts The hamburger now served with a pretzel bun. Ruins a once good burger. My Caesar Salad wilted lettuce and 50% croutons. The only bright spot were the atmosphere and our charming server, Cheyenne. She is a keeper. Hope they will take this seriously or we will have to summon Rebecca to clean it up. read more

This is our favorite special occasion restaurant! We ate here every night on our honeymoon and again tonight for my husband's birthday! The food is spectacular and the ambiance is incredible. They have the best views of Cloudcroft and fantastic staff! We adore the sweet potato and jalapeño bisque. It's a MUST! My husband was still stuffed from lunch so he had a green salad with grilled chicken and the house dressing and loved it. I skipped lunch so I had the Keto friendly 12oz ribeye with double veggies (asparagus - yum!) and it melted in my mouth! They always start the meal with homemade bread and herb butter. It's heavenly! It was my husband's birthday so they gave him a complimentary slice of cake with a candle in it. He went with the lemon cake with white chocolate frosting and it was amazing! read more

We had a reservation for five at 7:15. When we arrived, we waited for about 10 minutes before being seated. We ordered our food and did not receive it until after 8:45. We ordered two salmon, one trout, and two steaks. The fish was very bland. The steaks were to be cooked medium rare and medium. They were not cooked properly. And the meat was bad. The two that ordered the steaks were unable to eat them. We noticed that another customer across the room had to put ketchup on his steak in order to eat it. The fall/winter menu is disappointing compared to previous menus. There is a definite need for improvement on the menu selections and the food. read more

I havent been to Rebecca's at the Lodge in a few years and I doubt I go back. The service was abysmal. Waited almost 15 minutes before anyone even came to the table and the only other time the waitress came over was to bring the food. I had to get someone to find her to get our check. The menu was not what it use to be and has very limited choices. My friend said her salmon was good but I had blue corn rellenos with beans and oddly enough wild rice. The rellenos were tough to cut and chew. I can honestly say it's a shame it's gone down hill. It use to be a place I was excited to take visitors and family too but guess will have to go to Wendells at the Inn of the Mountain God's for a nice meal. read more

We went to Rebecca's on a Thursday night and made a reservation a few days prior for 7pm. We got there early thinking we would enjoy a drink at the bar. There were only two other people sitting at the bar and the restaurant was maybe half full. And, even though by my count they had four bartenders, we practically had to tackle one of them to get some service. The drinks were passable but nothing amazing. What was amazing was how long it took to make a margarita and a Moscow mule. We sat down at the bar at 6:00. Got our drinks at around 6:30. One drink with poor service was enough, so we asked to be seated a little early for dinner-- easily done since the restaurant was half full. Our waitress seemed like a nice person, but also seemed like she'd never waited tables before--not what you would expect from an upscale establishment. When we sat down she asked us what we would like...we said "a wine list and menus would be a good start." We ordered a bottle of mid-priced Argentine Malbec. What the sommelier (though probably not) brought out was Argentine, but also a blend and from a different winery altogether than was listed on the wine list--not the same wine. He said something about the menu being printed incorrectly. Whatever. The wine tasted fine and it was not a complete price gouge, so we took it. Back to the waitress: we tried to order dinner. My wife asked for the pistachio crusted trout. The waitress replied that they were out of trout, but also they were out of the pistachio fried steak, and the salmon. Attention wait staff everywhere! Give us the bad news upfront! Now we had to open our menus and spend more time deciding. But wait! Our waitress informed us of the Chef's Special! Grilled chicken breast over some kind of flavored rice. My wife fell for it. I ordered something called the Rio Grande chicken, since it was apparently the only thing they weren't out of on the menu besides a cheeseburger or a steak, and since at this point I didn't trust Rebecca enough to fork over $50 for a disappointing 6oz filet. Smart move on my part. Both entrees were horrible and they took 40 minutes to make it to our table. My wife's $26 "Chef's Special" was three ounces of dried-out chicken breast (I challenge anyone to find a more flat-chested chicken) on a bed of not-very-flavored rice. My wife pushed it all away after a couple of bites. My Rio Grande chicken was a little better, only because the dryness was drowned out by the hatch pepper gravy and Monterey Jack cheese. When I say drowned, I mean literally--my plate was a soupy mess and very, very salty. Like a salt marsh-y mess. I finally squeegeed it all aside and just ate my three ounces of chicken. One positive--thank God we ordered side salads. They were fresh and good, and though we didn't know it at the time, they were pretty much our dinner. And the wine--thank God for the wine, too. My wife is rarely this bold, but she flat out told the waitress that the "Chef's Special" was terrible and to please relay that to the "Chef" (if that's his real name). To her credit, the waitress had the entree removed from our bill. I could go on, but suffice to say that you'd do much better eating about anywhere else. My Rebecca's experience was a high-priced, pretentious adventure, but I had spent some bit of collateral convincing my wife to go to Cloudcroft and enjoy the outdoors with me and I thought I'd win some points with a nice, upscale dining experience mixed in with the beer, bars, and bbq. We made reservations and showed up to an empty space. We made reservations and were the first people seated in the room. Please note the hostess was extremely kind and friendly and was one of the best parts of our night. While other people were sat, their servers taking their drink and appetizer orders, our server was nowhere to be found. After a long delay our drink orders were taken. The second table to be seated received their appetizers before our drink orders were even taken. The 4th table to be sat got their bottle of champagne before we got our drinks. The bartender did a great job, and the man who delivered our drinks, Ryan, was very funny and nice, he and the hostess were the only reason we weren't miserable. It felt like every table was getting service before us, despite us being there first and waiting the longest. As for the food. Our appetizer, the (4) whisky glazed shrimp, was fantastic. Beware the chips however. While the flavor was good, they were soft and wet/greasy. Our waitress told us that's just how they make them. They're not chips, they're just scalloped potatoes that were slightly browned. The 14oz ribeye was cooked correctly, but was 20% fat and completely unseasoned. The mashed potatoes were good. The garden bowl was flavored well, the tofu was soft and the seasoning was sweet, the glazed carrots (all 3 of them...) tasted great, and curry seasoning rice was amazing, and the beans (half the plate) were just okay. Our second drink order was never delivered to us and thankfully not on the check. Our check was placed on the opposite side of the table from us and our server promptly left with no words exchanged. Now let's talk food, being that my professional job in life chosen is a Chef, giving examples of Lowe's Grocery Alamogordo deli in remodel opening crew chef John for reference if you want to ask Inn of the mountain gods resorts, sous chef , last before NM. 40 years at Seattle Golf & Country Club before they drop the country an became just Seattle Golf Club. Thee worst meal I ever had is here, besides the fact I love green chili watch we're an how it affects the rest of the meal. The second was the price 54.00 a market price, please note photo of said products available per person as your menu stated are you wanting more than just meat an potato an a coke my whole price was 125.00 an because this was our server first table ever we tip her $20 I came with more money and would have spent more if I think you can fill in the planks from here! My 300th review goes to Rebecca's Lodge. White sands and Cloudcroft area is one of my favorite places to visit in the country. I love the drastic scenic changes of this area and the beautiful drive to Cloudcroft. Sunday brunch at Rebecca's lodge is a must. It's a somewhat upscale buffet with champagne, mimosas, and coffee all included. I don't usually like haunted places and I'm not into "ghosts". This historical place with rich and cultured past is, however, haunted and named after the friendly ghost Rebecca. They even have a picture of her in the restaurant. Somehow it adds character and history. I think Neil Patric Harris is originally from this area and he used to visit this place often. I came here alone for the first time then visited again with a friend several years later. The ambiance is elegant with old charm. The buffet food selections are great. My favorite is their beef bourguignon and I also love the desserts. The view is incredible b/c it's on top of the mountain surrounded by the Lincoln forest . I could sit here all day. On my second visit Cloudcroft was covered in thick snow. It was magical to sit inside Rebecca's to sip on champagne and look at the snow outside the window. If you ask the stuff, you can actually get a key to go up to the terrace on top of the building. It was deff a pleasant surprise! Overall Rebecca's lodge is a hidden gem and trust me you will not regret if you come to the Sunday brunch! Side note to the one star review, Rebecca's is NOT a racist place. I'm a minority myself and ppl here were nothing but kind and respectful to me. The reason why you weren't treated well was not b/c you were Hispanic, my friend. It perhaps has something to do with how you carry yourself. Please don't play your racial card all the time. It's getting old! read more

The stay, dinner and BRUNCH were truly unforgettable. We stumbled upon this gem via yelp. If you are into historical hotels, this is surely the place for you. Established in 1911 this cozy Lodge atop Cloudcroft was very memorable. I had, arguably the best sleep I've had in a very long time. Service was impeccable, Dinner was incredible, and the BRUNCH, oh let me tell you, that BRUNCH... If you only come for the BRUNCH do it. read more

We were visiting from Phoenix, and Rebecca's was recommended to us as a great steakhouse. We had a party of 9, and visited on a Wednesday evening. We had to wait 53 minutes for our first drink, and then our steaks/rack of lamb came out to us and they were cold! The rack of lamb was over cooked and dry, and the steaks were undercooked and flavorless. We barely ate our meals because they were so disappointing. I would give zero stars, if possible. The best part of our meal was the appetizers. We had escargot, crab cakes, blue corn fried rellenos, and caesar salads. It's a good thing we had plenty of apps or else we would have went hungry that night! read more

The Bottom Line: A great, if formal, atmosphere belies incredibly welcoming service, and a delightful spot for lunch and dinner. Try: Ribeye Huevos Rancheros Pro: The service is on point. Though we arrived tired and sandy from a day of driving through Texas and hours at White Sands, the staff treated us as if we had been regulars for years. The food was delicious, too. Hearty and flavorful, for both breakfast and dinner. The salads were good, too, but I sadly do not recall which salads we had. Con: It's a bit of a drive from White Sands, but 100% worth it! read more

Let me say that I truly love this place. We've been coming here for over 30 years. Since the shutdown/covid all restaurants have been struggling to have staff and proper service. Rebecca's continues to have good service and excellent food. The only comment that I have for an improvement would be for the waitress or waiter to let you know of any menu items that are unavailable. The menu right now is fairly small and it would be proper if the wait staff would say, "Our special today is...., and today we are out of the Trout". It's very frustrating to decide what to order on a small menu list, only to discover that the item you selected is not available, and was in fact not available anytime that day or the day before. Just let people know from the beginning what you are out of. Especially when it is one of your signature items. Thank you. read more

We stopped in for dinner after another local restaurant was a 2 hour wait and weren't very pleased. The service was lackluster and we didn't really enjoy our food. My husband ordered a draft beer that wasn't warm but wasn't cold either and we split the Chips and Queso as an appetizer. The chips were super salty and the queso was cold. Our party of four was the only table seated for a late lunch. We sat at the windows watching it snow outside! Lunch was good and started with a chicken chili cheese chowder that was fantastic! My husband had a green chili cheese burger that was delicious. Our friends had the same burger and a chicken Caesar salad that looked really good. They were out of the cold roast beef sandwich meat, but offered the French Dip beef for an "up charge". Pros: pistachio crusted steak + golden russet potatoes with gravy was DELICIOUS! So were the chips and queso. Sitting outside on the patio was beautiful and romantic - the birds chirping, the view, the crisp air - wonderful! The waiting room couch was comfortable after a very long motorcycle ride to get to Cloudcroft. Our waiter was very nice. Cons: we waited over an hour to be seated, we were told it would be 30 mins. Very understaffed (I only ever saw two guys working). My husbands ribeye tasted game'y. But I suspect the first 2 cons are highly due to COVID19. Which I know has nothing to do with Rebecca's itself, or else I would have given 5 stars. read more

Now we got the prime rib steak, a 8 and a 10 oz. All the fixings it came with we're great but the meat was just ok. The smaller one was supposed to be medium well while the larger one was medium. Both of them were medium and worse of all they were already just luke warm. So I have eaten at many places and this piece of meat was just average. This makes me afraid to get something higher priced if they already have problems with this one. Now the meat itself had a great taste but just luke warm? Oh and the cuts wasn't that great. How do I know that? I am quite often at BBQ competitions and see how they cut it for said events. We might be back or not, not sure about it. Had an awesome lunch.. Green chile chicken chowder, yummy with green chile quiche.. Billy's deep fried avocado with chicken was so good I almost stole it. Red chile hominy. Val said her French dip & horseradish dip the best ever. I'm now hungry again.. The staff were super friendly & the setting was perfect. However we couldn't find Rebecca the ghost!! So I wanted to loooooove this place. Very old school. Lots of wood. Tableside preparation of Caesar salad and assorted desserts. The warm sourdough with soft butter was probably the best part of the meal. The house salad was very fresh but my blue cheese dressing wasn't super flavorful. Hubby and I split the ribeye -- my half was so mean it was like sirloin. Not great. It was slightly overlooked for medium too. The accompaniments were great - sautéed asparagus and au gratin potatoes but they couldn't make up for the steak. Our server also disappeared for long stretches. The water guy kept us filled too. It's a fun cool spot but I think I'd try breakfast or lunch in the future. read more
