Excellent Breakfast from bagels & cereal to scrambled & eggs & sausage & gravy to waffles & syrup to yogurt to coffee 4. Clean Swimming Pool with plenty of chairs 5. Tremendous customer service with a laugh 6. Great View of Mountains 7. Good advice on where to eat with 5 star nearby restaurants 8. I appreciate pets can not be left alone- the times I've heard scratching, howling, meowing doing damage to many many places I've stayed is sad. Animals must be with owners at all times. They are like your children.

I did not end up staying at this hotel because of the condition of the property and room. As soon…read moreas we arrived, there was a strong smell of cat urine, mildew, and cigarettes. The furniture had visible stains, there was literally a cat roaming the hallways, and, most concerning, our hotel room door was not properly latched or secured--we were able to push it open without using a key. I was at the hotel for less than an hour before going to the front desk and explaining the issues. I was told that I would receive a full refund. This was on June 24. On July 1, after I still had not received the refund, I called the hotel and was told they had "hit some buttons" on their end to help push the refund through faster. Today, July 14--three weeks later--I called again because I still had not received anything. I was then told they did not see that I had paid the hotel directly because I had booked and paid $470 through a third party back in April, and that I needed to contact the third party myself to request the refund. I understand that third-party bookings may have a different refund process. What is extremely frustrating is that it took the hotel THREE WEEKS to tell me this. I was told in person that I would receive a full refund, and then a week later I was led to believe the hotel was actively pushing the refund through. Had I been told on June 24 that I needed to contact the third-party booking company, I would have done so immediately. The condition of the hotel was unacceptable, the unsecured room door was a serious safety concern, and the handling of the promised refund has been incredibly frustrating. I would not recommend staying here based on my experience.

We had a wonderful time staying with Mike while skiing Cuchara. Our room was huge with two bedrooms…read moreand a full kitchen. We especially enjoyed the wide selection of VHS tapes and cozy decor. Mike was an outstanding host with world class breakfasts each morning, top tier hospitality, and fun conversations. It truly felt as if we were right at home and part of the Cuchara family. Mike is deeply involved in the comeback of Cuchara mountain ski area and its was fun to stay with somebody so passionate about the success of this mountain town. We can't wait to visit again!

This is EXACTLY the kind of place I hope to find when I'm looking for a vacation. I'm not much of…read morea "hotel" person. Mike's inn is perched on the banks of a rushing creek (and the lawn out back along the creek is pure paradise), and when you stay here, you feel welcome enough to feel like family, without all the social obligations that come with staying with family. Mike is a local legend, everyone knows him. He is the driving force behind the re-opening of the ski resort in Cuchara, and has been in the ski business his whole professional life. He is a gracious, kind host...quiet and reserved, but is happy to chat if you engage him. He's a SUPERB cook (and this is coming from a chef!), and his breakfasts are truly outstanding. The place is supremely dog friendly, with no extra charge for a pet. (A huge savings if you're staying a week.) Yes...this is an older home, converted to an inn. (Each suite has a full kitchen.) This is not The W. Don't come expecting that. We found our suite to be twice the size we expected, supremely comfy, and the price was spot-on for such a wonderful stay with breakfast every day, and an unlimited source of information about the area. Without question, we will be back!
