They always do an excellent job grooming my very hairy mutt. I post a before and after so you can see the improvement. I have taken my boy here quite a few times & every time they are very welcoming, he is excited to go back, & when I pick him up he smells great! I haven't used the boarding side of the lodge but if i ever need to board I definitely would based off how well he is treated during grooming. I reviewed them about a week ago and I made it my business to come back and give you all an update and I'm PLEASED! My dogs tail wags when we pull up and he comes home tired -- which is the best part lol. My goal is for him to play and get exercise and him coming home and taking a looong nap further told me that it went well LOL. They really impressed me when I came in one day to drop him off and the young lady remembered my dogs name -- which is important because it's great to feel like they know him which to me translates to they're learning his personality etc etc and serving him well. The staff is nice and the establish is clean and does NOT reek of dog which is so shocking to me lol. If you're wondering should you drop your fur baby off, yes you should. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR EXOTICS (bunnies) HERE I was left with Heart break and in disbelief of losing both my happy, healthy bunnies. We received NO updates except the one day on the 26th of 8 photos of them in that quick moment. and that Mochi "died" on the 30th and yet still heard nothing about Onyx.The youngest Mochi who had just turned one years old passed away at the facilities on august 30th 2024 .For some reason I was contacted before the emergency contacts even though it was known I would most likely not have service the whole trip,Luckily enough I had service long enough to tell my emergency contacts to go get mochi's body (which was put into a small Amazon box) and Take onyx home. With Our second to youngest Onyx who was one in a half years old the employees stated to our emergency contact "Onyx was unphased and fine" of Mochi's absence even though they were bonded, yet Onyx came home very ill, with a head tilt, the moment we arrived home we rushed onyx to the emergency vet to find he went from 8lbs to 3.5lbs and was put on critical care, and had a follow up appointment unfortunately Onyx passed away at that night at 11:55PM September 1st 2024.we later spoke to our emergency contacts and heard the lodge staff had said " they suspected it was G.I. Stasis that took mochi's life" and my question is why was Onyx not taken to the emergency vet after mochi died especially since they are housed together and has a head tilt? If two perfectly healthy young bunnies come into your facility are housed together and one suddenly dies I would think that you would take the other one to the emergency veterinary or contact the emergency contact? The lack of urgency, communication and all the confusion in the few explanations given and then to actually ignore, not answer or acknowledge specific questions we have had is absolutely unacceptable. read more

I have been taking our Bailey girl to the lodge for the last 5 years and I have always had great experience.. The entire staff had always been great to me and my Bailey girl . She has done boarding and also grooming and never had a problem. Love that you can see the off play in the pool area on the app. The doggies always seem to be enjoying themselves. RUN RUN RUN RUN... This place doesn't care about your dog whatsoever if you have a dog with energy higher than a sack of rocks they'll punish your dog and throw them in a "timeout" for trying to play and be a normal dog... we recently booked our 12 week old Australian shepherd puppy for boarding and daycare, For 50 dollars they'll put your dog in an empty room with food, water and a little blanket, on top of that they'll charge 20 dollars for the cameras which I highly suggest paying for so you can see how they actually treat your dog. After the first day they took him out for daycare to play with other small dogs and every time my dog wanted to have any interaction with another dog the trainer "Stacy" would rip them away and make them go to a timeout... so please take my advice and go somewhere else this place is horrible. EDIT: the manager is also horrible she takes no accountability and was pretty much reading off a script instead of answering my questions and concerns with her own thoughts. read more

Please heed the one star reviews. It's absolutely heart breaking that people have left their pets here thinking they will receive great care just to come back to them either dead or in critical condition. In August 2024, Mochi and Onyx were entrusted to The Lodge. When their owners came back, one of them was already dead with no/minimal updates and Onyx swiftly followed Mochi over the rainbow road as Onyx was in critical condition. Keep in mind, they were perfectly healthy prior to their stay in the Lodge. After this happened, I read more reviews. Guess what? This isn't the first time a pet was lost to The Lodge or injured in their care. There are other documented cases if you take the time to read the reviews. Losing a pet this way is a living nightmare of any pet owner. I would never leave my fur babies there. Please heed the reviews. No pet deserves to die prematurely, poor care / treatment and no one should have to experience the nightmare of coming back from a trip / vacation to their pets no longer alive or well. My husband and I couldn't get a reservation at the usual place we board our dog, so we googled and found this place. I was nervous to leave him at a place I knew nothing about, but the minute we pulled into the parking lot we immediately felt more at ease. It's a lovely place! We were helped by a sweet girl, and left feeling our boy was going to be just fine! And, he was! This is our new go-to place when we stay in Tampa. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. If you decide to choose this place GET THE CAMERA!!! First, we purchased the luxury sweet - supposed to come with a TV, "elevated luxury bedding", and a bed time treat (all rooms should, this room is just bigger). I had to call to gain access to the camera. Once getting the access the room looks nothing like they advertised and my dog didn't have the bed in the room was supposed to come with, the TV was turned off, and still say 3 has not received a single "bed time treat". After seeing the missing bed and TV turned off I called again. I was told the bed wasn't an option for that room, to which I read her the exact working from their website. Then, the TV I was told was not working. She said she would get the bed taken care of but the TV was broken in some of the rooms. They got him the bed and magically the TV started working. We paid for the extra play time for the 1-1 since our dog is not extremely friendly with other dogs. The first day, no play time. The second day, my husband called around 430PM after calling SIX times with no answer and sending a text to have a call back (which never happened), he finally got through. They were apologetic and assured us our dog would be walked by end of day. Well here we are on day 3 (pick up day), and he never has left the room. He's never been given his walk that you pay extra for. Highly recommend going to any other place than here. This was our first time and I can assure you, we won't be back. Unexperienced staff with dogs! They have no idea because first of all they are busy on their phones instead of interacting with the dogs. The staff isn't trained breed and age behaviors (NON aggressive). I'm talking about basic. We tried the boarding for one night followed by daycare. Luckily purchased the camera option to watch our pup. He was placed in a room with only a blanket, food and water. Absolutely no interaction with a staff member the entire evening from close to open. Not an indictment, but makes you wonder what else was charged for, but not done. If it walks like a duck...... We have plenty of places nearby that we can warehouse our dog for a weekend, but we were willing to go the extra distance and pay the extra for a better experience for our pet. We have used The Lodge several times in the past for our dog. She has SEVERE food allergies. We gave the staff her own special food (which they charged us for) but yet this is the SECOND time she comes home broken out in hives, hair loss, and scratching like crazy. We do not understand how since she was on the mend before going in. Another issue: we needed her boarded on July 4- we only needed 1 day. They told us they had room, then we get a call telling us that they are overbooked and won't have intake staff on the 4th bc they'll be busy with all of the dogs (totally their mistake) Fine. We dropped her off at 6:30 PM the 3rd of July (they close at 7). We picked her up at 6 pm the 5th- THEY CHARGED US $25 For "late pickup" we didn't get a credit for "late drop off" since we brought her at 6pm! She was there literally 48 hours. We paid $127 and she is going CRAZY itching and scratching at home right now. Her coat is spotty. They never even wrote down that she had an allergy. We have NO idea what goes on back there. I recently boarded my pup here for the first time and the whole experience was great! I worked at a pet boarding/daycare facility for years so I know good when I see it. From the limited ingredient diets they feed the dogs (that my dog desperately needs) to them washing my dog's bed (which is a pain in the butt to put back together. I brought my dog in for daycare before boarding him to ensure that they would feel comfortable with him because he isn't the easiest dog to work with and is quite fearful of new people (that's an understatement). The only request I have for the establishment is to post pictures of daycare dogs on their facebook page or something so that I have some peace of mind that my dog enjoyed his stay a little bit. They did show me pictures of him playing in the beautiful and spacious yard when I picked him up, though. read more

DON'T let the fancy lodge welcoming center fool you. This is nothing more than a fancy kennel. The facilities were warm if not hot. But that was nothing compared to having an unreachable owner, and what they did to my dog. I dropped my dog off on the way out of town. During check-in they asked me if she was neutered, I said yes, which they noted. They called her main vet (who did not do the neutering/another vet did) so they quarantined her away from other dogs ( I had no knowledge of this on my 4 night/5 day vacation). They told me that they even inspected her and saw no scar. SHE HAS A HUGE VISABLE SCAR...even an ugly one at that!!! OMG my happy, dog-loving dog was in quarantine away from other dogs. No play time with other dogs, nothing. When I returned they told me what happened and I broke down. This establishment is OWNED BY A VETERINARIAN who apparently is not approachable or reachable by customers, neither is his partner. The owners do their best to have staff handle everything...agreed..not a biggie, BUT HOW DOES A VETERINARIAN OWNED ESTABLISHMENT LIKE THIS NOT KNOW WHAT A NEUTERED SCAR LOOK LIKE?? They said they tried to call me but the message was not clear. They told me they didn't try to reach me again because they were JUST TOO BUSY (my dog was just a number...she will do fine in isolation). My dog has never been isolated and always is with other dogs...she walks by me with out a leash. She is somewhat of a celebrity in St. Pete. I will never take my dog to this place again. We have been boarding our dogs here for many years and have been extremely happy until this year when 1 of our dogs had a badly infected hot spot on 2 separate stays (4/2019 and 11/2019). In Nov, he was there for 10 days. On day 10 while I was on my way to pick him up on Saturday. I got a call that the groomer found a small hot spot and could they treat it. It was not small. On Monday I took him to vet and they couldn't believe it was not noticed sooner. Someone should have noticed the excessive scratching, or felt it while petting him. He had to be shaved, put on steroids and antibiotics. Puss was oozing from the wound. What bothered us the most is that I updated The Lodge twice via email with photos to let them know what happened and no response. They changed emails so I made sure I sent to the correct one. Needless to say, with no response to even show they care about our fur baby, they have lost a long time customer that boarded there numerous times each year. "Outstanding Care" as stated on their website did not apply in this case. PS, They do have you sign a release that they are not responsible for hot spots so it must occur often. read more

This place literally almost killed one of our dogs. No staff at night. At a stuffed toy. We saw stuffing on the floor and thought maybe it got ripped up. Wrong. He ate it and the through it up days later. A toy in the room disappears and nobody through it away... they really don't care beyond lip service. I'm still concerned something is wrong. If you read this and think I'm just an unrealistic individual bashing for no reasons, go read the lengthy Blue Pearl review I wrote saying nothing but good things about my experience when the majority of reviews before mine were TERRIBLE. And that visit cost me 14K so I'm not complaining about the money. I could just post the below pictures and that alone justifies the rating. For context, the bright pink sores are one of two areas on an in tact males testicles. The scabbed over ones are the day after pick up from boarding when we started treating it. The dogs laid in filth and the staff acknowledged they didn't clean up like they should have (video feed we saw confirmed lack of cleaning as well). Same dog caught kennel cough while isolated from gen pop. The pictures are upside down from each other. The vertical sore on the left hand side in the scabbed over image is the vertical sore on the right of the bright pink sores. We went to this place for one day of daycare and six nights of boarding. We will never use them again. - We don't feel the ranch suites are not as advertised. The door to outside was open all day. I'm not sure how the air conditioning and air exchanges every 15 minutes or whatever is noted on the web page when the door was open all day. When it was hot they put a fan on the floor. The Mastiff drooling all day from panting contributed to the filth they were laying in all day. - Text message and phone call painted a very clear picture both dogs would be covered for a single room charge. The staff acknowledged it was confusing (this is important for later to convey why I'm rightfully still mad and not acting like an entitled brat). - Staff stated the platform bed was being used by one of our dogs that we were concerned wasn't. After brining up the pictures included here and the filth that was all over them after pickup, they told me he actually wasn't using it. I would have paid for a different bed which is possible per the website if I would have been told what was actually happening. - When I picked the dogs up and got them home I realized they both had dirt/drool crusted over on their legs and underside. The staff acknowledged that after the one dog would drink and drip/drool over the room, it wasn't cleaned up and the dogs laid in it. - Our two dogs were isolated from the other dogs. They had private play together. One caught kennel cough. - The in tact male had dried out, chapped, and chafing genitals from laying on the ground the whole time where he wait was shifted. The picture of it bright pink was what it looked like the day of pickup. The picture of it looking scabbed was the day after pickup and we started getting ointment on the area. The staff acknowledged everything noted above again. - Every time we looked at the camera there was stuffing from a toy on the floor. It was there every time we looked. After getting the dogs, seeing their condition, and the staff acknowledging the conditions they were in, it supports that the room was never being cleaned. - The conditions for boarding state that if the animal is dirty they reserve the right to clean them at a cost to the owner. I would have happily paid proactively for those cleanings if I knew they'd be living in drool, water, and dirt. - The resolution was a $200 refund so we can take the dogs to get groomed and make them feel comfortable. So after acknowledging the dirty conditions, one dog getting kennel cough, the same dog ending up with sores from the pictures, and that the pricing was confusing and misleading, I get a $200 refund. That won't even cover the vet bills for the kennel cough (at least two visits + anti-biotics). read more

The only reason I gave it one star is because it's the lowest rating available. We tried this place becasue it it close to our home and it was only one night. I am not sure what they gave them but our one dog got sick with a runny bowel movement on the way home and the other one is foaming at the mouth. After speaking with the apathetic office manager, it pretty much summed up it is a one and done trial. We have been using another kennel in Riverview with tremendous success but it provides a challenge becasue of the distance. We kenneled our beagles at The Lodge part of the week of Thanksgiving. The ladies I worked with were fantastic with our dogs and worked with us getting them checked in while also maintaining COVID protocols. While they were there-- one of our girls was also administered medication. On pickup day, we had baths and nail clips for our girls. I was only allowed in when we picked up and there were no other clients in the lobby. The building is gorgeous inside and out and the kennels are good size. I had asked a friend for a recommendation of where to kennel our girls as this was the first time we had kenneled since moving to the area and she recommended The Lodge in Thonotosassa. I would definitely recommend them also and found the lodging rates/bath charges/ etc very reasonable. And talk about clean--I found The Lodge to be very clean for both humans and our furbabies. We have always loved this place and when we moved out of state, we always used this place as a measuring stick for other boarding kennels. Nothing could measure up, so we still used them when we came back into town. Now that we've moved back, I breath a sigh of relief because they take such great care of my dogs. Although I understand the negative reviews, I have never had such an experience. They are human and the dogs are dogs so you would have to take that into consideration...no one is perfect, bad things happen as well as accidents. read more

My wife and I have been taking our two dogs, a pit mix and min pin, here for a few years now. We have never had any issues at all and have used the daycare, boarding, and their vaccination clinic. I have had interaction, I would assume, with nearly every employee there and I have nothing but good things to say about them. They remember my dog's names and seem to genuinely care about their well being. Any business has its negative reviews, but I have personally recommended this establishment to coworkers who have had great experiences as well. WONDERFUL FACILITY! I have been a dog breeder for over 12 years now and I have been a customer of The Lodge since the first year they opened. I recommend a lot of my clients to go to them as well. Coming from a dog trainer perspective, I would not trust any other boarding facility for pets in the South Florida area more than I trust the staff and owners of The Lodge. I have traveled the entire state [being divorced twice and having 3 kids living all over FL]..BELIEVE ME--NO OTHER DOG BOARDING KENNELS IN FL COME ANYWHERE CLOSE to as nice as The Lodge. My American Bulldog always comes in super excited. Due to her Bully-breed she does private play opposed to large group play [which I am perfectly fine with since she doesn't do well with off leash play anyways]. I have personally met and interacted with all of the staff and the owners. It's funny to read the Megan girl's review below as a disgruntled employee--- she obviously has some other issues going on that has nothing to do with The Lodge or staff. I actually think I met her with my husband while she was in training- probably a good thing she left. I didn't want to say anything to the owners, but she her attitude was not the best and obviously that didn't last long with them either. She clearly looked like she didn't fit in... This place has definitely changed for the worse since the original owner sold earlier this year. From the outside its still a pretty place to look at but the new staff is poorly trained, customer service is horrible and the new manager on site (Laura) is apathetic. I was poorly if not rudely greeted upon checking in my dog for a seven day stay having made reservations weeks in advance. Unfortunately, at the time I was already running late to get to the airport or I would have explored another option before leaving my dog. Upon returning to pick up my dog, I requested to speak to the owner and I was informed of the change in ownership so I spoke with the manger, Laura. Laura was totally uninterested and unconcerned with my complaint as she simply stated they are still working out some staffing/training issues.
