My husband and I made multiple attempts to aqquire an appointment for his haircut. Robert did send a text at my first attempt, saying only "sorry we're booked". We were coming in to Truckee for 2 days, and my husband really wanted a cut. The next day I walked up their stairs, and politely mentioned their curt text response, and asked if there is any way they could fit him in as soon as possible. Robert quickly said "not without an appointment". Monica was sitting on the window ledge using her phone. She said, "Maybe in two and a half hours I could fit him in". Recognizing their standoffish demeanor, I commented, "well, you folks missed out on a great paying client, and you could've cut his hair by the time your next client climbs the stairs". Went to The Loft for my sons first haircut by a professional. He is 2 and super duper shy. When we came in, Kelly was finishing up with another customer. When it was our turn, my son was very skittish and it took a good 5-10 minute to coax him over to the chair. She had a super cute Superman cape that he wore. He ended up on my lap. Throughout the hair cut, he went back and forth from being ok to wanting to be done and Kelly was just so patient and caring. She explained what she was doing, wasn't annoyed at all by my sons non compliance from time to time, and gave him the cutest haircut ever! Thanks Kelly and the loft! read more

Due to the pandemic, I haven't gotten a haircut for quite a while. I think my last haircut was January or February. When I saw that the Loft was taking appointments, I booked one for July 6th. The Loft's website listed their COVID-19 procedures, such as bringing your own drape, wearing a mask, and waiting outside until your appointment. Super easy. When it was my turn, the prior customer sent me up on their way out. My barber was Kelly. I showed her some pictures of prior haircuts, and asked her to do something like that, but shorter. I don't know the next time I'll be able to get a haircut, so I wanted to get it as short as possible. She did a fantastic job. She interpreted my request perfectly. She's also a great conversationalist, and I enjoyed talking with her while she cut my hair. I'm up in Truckee every few months, so if haircut places back in the Bay Area are still closed, I will definitely be booking an appointment here again. read more

I had an unexpected business trip come up while I was on vacation in Truckee and needed to get cleaned up. I called for an appointment and Allie (sp?) answered and offered me pretty much anytime with her or Bob. She was ready for me when I arrived, having just enough time to give the shop dog a few skritches and pets. Allie did a very nice, thorough, and non-rushed job. I have a beard, and frankly, I think that's the hardest part of my cut, and she did a great job thinning it out, making sure the length was what I wanted, and getting a crisp,line. 7/3/17 This place is terrible. I called 4 times no answer. I drove from Kings Beach to Truckee because there message said there was someone there for walk ins. I walk up the stairs and was immediately told she has two customers and she was taking a lunch right after and couldn't help me till 1:30pm. When she told me this the time was 11:20 & her two customers were children and wouldn't have taken long. I find this is a terrible way to run a business & bad customer service. Making locals waste there hard earn cash driving around because they neglect to answer a phone and employee bad people. read more

I walked into The Loft Barber Shop on Donner Pass a few minutes ago, after calling multiple times and leaving a message during normal business hours. (10am) Upon entering the second story shop that was completely empty, I was greeted with "what bad timing" I questioned? Younger guy with glasses tells me his straight razor guy is out of town and he can't possibly squeeze me in. I respond, "There is no one here now, you can't sit me down and get it knocked out before they show up? "No" he responded, unwilling to listen or help. That was all I needed to hear. Moral of the story, I will NEVER visit this shop again. Hopefully the owner reads this and makes sure no one else's time is wasted unnecessarily. Yelp can help or hurt your business, and each customer is important. Wow... Amazing is simply the word for it. First off: the sign doesn't say "the loft" anymore outside, so if you're like me and will follow your GPS off a cliff like a lemming, then don't spend 10 minutes wondering if you're at the right place. Second: exactly what I hoped for out of a barbershop. Friendly dog while you wait. Kelly takes walk-ins, and I scored one with less than an hour before close. The owner was there too but was with another customer. After the kid ahead of me gets finished (and a nice cut, increasing my confidence), Kelly welcomes me over. I sit in the chair, and tell her I want a dramatically different haircut than the one I currently have. She sounds surprised, and gently asks what I want to make sure I'm not throwing around terms I don't understand, but in a very respectful way. She starts cutting with confidence, and I reveal that the last barbershop I went to and got a similar haircut, I ended up with a bad cut, a slice above my ear with a straight razor, and surly attitude. After I remark on this, the owner asks "wait, an actual cut?" And I tell him yes, blood and scab and all. Both are incredulous, and we engage in a conversation on the art of cutting hair. Kelly does an admirable job cutting, evening out, and chatting all at the same time, as does the owner. The entire experience seemed over before it began, but the clock said a decent interval had passed. They managed to assuage my fears of a repeat, give a great conversation, and made time fly. And the haircut was exactly what I wanted, even though all I said was "stylish but conservative" and when asked for specifics "whatever you think looks good". Oh, bonus points: After I got done, I went shopping at a grocery store, and had both a woman and man flirt with me, not 15 minutes after I left the shop. No joke. I literally can't remember thinking this much about a haircut I've received in years (except for the negative one). read more

The guys seem nice but the cut was not good. Asked for a skin fade, he gave me a zero to one and after a second try decided not to push the issue. I got home and my wife said I got a bowl cut. My parents have a place in Tahoe and I went to the Loft to get a haircut around 2:30, lady told me she was busy until around 3:30, which is fine by me and figured I'd just wait. I went to sit down and she asked me to wait outside and to just come back around 3:30. That's fine with me too, there plenty of things to kill time around the area. I came back at 3:30 doors are locked and nobody answers when I knock. I walked around a little more and came back again around 4:15 still nobody there. I left pretty frustrated knowing I wasted almost two hours trying to get a haircut. They were nice during the initial meeting though. read more
