We had an awful experience at this bar. We were a group of ~8 and sitting near the bar. We were waiting for menus for almost 30 minutes. As soon as we ordered drinks, we were kicked out with no explanation other than "being rude." We were all talking amongst each other and had no idea how we were rude. The service was horrible, and waitstaff was mean. Would not recommend this place to anyone. In a nutshell: The cocktails were excellent! The food was good. I love a good martini and A Martini did not disappoint! This particular martini had junmai sake, which was a first for me, and it worked. I also had The Erin which was also flawless. My last drink was the Improved Pendennis Club which was a bit too sweet for my liking, but that's just a personal preference. I think the drinks were worth the $15-16 price tag. They were delish and I left pretty boozed up. :-P For food, I had the L.I. Burger with a single patty. I do not recommend getting one patty -- just get the double. Trust me, the patty is small and you will be able to handle the two patties. The single patty got lost in the big bun (see photo) and threw off the bun-meat ratio. When I *could* get a taste of the patty, I could tell it was high-quality meat. I thought the fries were just OK but my partner really liked them. Not sure if the single-patty burger was worth $17 (or should even be offered on the menu, unless maybe they served it with a different bun). I'll try the regular burger next time. The service was wonderful and each staff member was exceptionally friendly. One gentleman gave us enthusiastic elbow bumps when he brought out our food, which was pretty cute. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and sat outside. Great service, had a good cocktail, wine and beer selection and we ended up splitting a bottle of a great, light orange wine. Long Island Bar was the perfect place to meet up with my wife and her coworkers for food and drinks after a long workday! The spot has a very welcoming energy, with friendly staff and elevated old-school diner decor. The drinks were reasonably priced and tasty. It was really fun to go to a bar with not so standard food. The deviled eggs were so festive-- I haven't had a deviled egg in years! My wife is vegetarian, and she often struggles to find good protein options at bars, but here she had the Spanish tortilla and loved it. I'm sure we'll be coming back here just for that. Had dinner and drinks with friends at The Long Island Bar on Thursday evening. It was an excellent evening full of delicious cocktails and awesome food from a menu that clearly cut out the fat. Quality: The Long Island Bar is exactly what I am looking for in my cocktail bar. A solid set of cocktails with all the classics and a few house shake-ups, a few local beers, and plenty of wine. I stuck with Dolores Del Rio, a jalapeno infused tequila drink, with aperol, passion fruit, and lime juice, throughout the evening and loved it. However, what may be even better than the drinks is the small, but packed with heavy hitters food menu. We ordered the majority of appetizers on the menu, which is only six long, and each was better than the last. Tasty and simple Deviled Eggs, an interesting Smoked Trout Spread, which came with hilarious fish shaped crackers, Panisse, which is a chickpea fritter served with corn salad, ricotta, and red chili crema, and then the Fried Cheese Curds. The Fried Cheese Curds are perfection, and I loved the french onion dip side. I am positive you could just order that and be happy. Even better was the mains portion of the menu, which was simply a choice of single or double patty burger, and bacon or no bacon. I stuck with The L.I. Burger, the double patty version with no bacon, which had two medium patties, pickles, cheese, and fancy sauce. A picture perfect burger, with good ratios, juicy patties, and manageable size despite the second patty. And don't sleep on the delicious fries. Quantity: Good sized cocktails that pack a punch. The food is all large with appetizers that are easy to share and the burger is very filling. Value: $15-$16 for the Cocktails. $5 for Deviled Eggs. $13 for Fried Cheese Curds. $14 for Panisse. $15 for Smoked Trout Spread. $20 for The L.I. Burger. Ambiance: The Long Island Bar is located along Atlantic in the Cobble Hill area of Brooklyn. Just a few steps from Brooklyn Bridge Park, it sits on a corner with very noticeable neon signs. Currently they have a few tables outside, but it really is a dine-in spot. The inside has that diner feel, other than the dim lighting. The normal breakfast style bar has been replaced with a cocktail setup, highlighting spirits and glasses. A row of booths runs parallel to the bar, and a small back room has space for two or three larger groups. This area also had a large television playing basketball. The music was great, a unique oldies playlist, and definitely check out the different items hanging on the wall, which certainly tell cool stories. Crowd: Relatively quiet on Thursday evening. One other larger group and a few couples, but plenty of tables available. Service: Absolutely fantastic. They quickly worked to get us set up, and had no issues even though we were a larger group. I cannot believe the kind of service I received at Long Island bar tonight. I'm from NYC, and I was out with friends. We decide to drop in for a drink or two to end our night and this place seemed as good as any. Nicely made cocktails - they came out quite quickly too. What was the issue was the attitude I received from the bartender. I felt like we were all polite and not rowdy, talking amongst ourselves and enjoying each others company. The bartender stated it was last call and I wasn't really sure what I wanted to get and said I needed a little time to order. "Last call is last call" he said. Very deadpan, no smile. Very cold and unwelcoming. Fine. I just look at the menu, and tell him I wanted a LI Gimlet. I paid for all my friends drinks right after and the bartender asked me several times "okay to charge the card ?" After handing me what looked like a receipt. I was a little confused about what exactly I was looking at but he didn't bother to help or explain anything. He was rude and mean and I felt like I have had so much better experiences at bars around the city my whole entire life. I always tip generously. But I also tip based off service and this man was nothing but unprofessional and unwelcoming. I gave him $4 (which I felt was generous) and he proceeds to say the following: "Happy holidays and thank you for the $4 tip, way to be an embarrassment in front of your friends " I was absolutely shocked at this disgusting behavior. Needless to say I'm not coming back and I would strongly suggest to other patrons to take your hard earned dollars elsewhere. It's spicy, tangy, sweet, and magical. I've brought others to taste it too and they all agree - this cocktail is #1. Drop whatever insignificant thing you happen to be doing, and stuff these into your facehole immediately. To be quite honest, I would love any bar that has such excellent cheese curds even if they only served warm Corona sans lime, in lipstick covered glasses garnished with pubic hair (that's pretty high on my list of things I don't want to drink). But this place...this place also happens to have some of the finest cocktails around. The Dolores Del Rio is my jam, and sipping that in their big, beautiful window while munching on fried cheese curds and watching the world go by...this is as good as life gets. We came here on Easter Sunday prior to going to a brunch party. Maybe because of the timing, the place was pretty empty. The interior looks like an old school dinner, with couple of booths and rows of barstools along the bar. Bartender was very attentive and gave us water and drink menu right away. Unlike an old school dinner, they have a great selection of whisky and tequila, and not just the cheap ones. Right after I sat down, I spotted Yamazaki, as any whisky snob would know, Yamazaki is one of the world's top distilleries. We got couple rounds of drinks, I like their take on bloody mary, instead of vodka, they have aquavit liquor in it. Normally I wouldn't like it because aquavit smells like black liquorice and I cannot stand black liquorice. But surprisingly the bloody tasted spicy and smoky and really yummy. And maybe we were one of those crazy customers started drinking around noon, they also gave us some complimentary torrijas, which tasted like a combination of French toast and churrios. Love love love. So, yummy drinks, super friendly staff, I definitely will come back and try their brunch or dinner. read more

Stopped in here for a few over priced drinks. I've been in here before so I was expecting that. What I wasn't expecting was the wise attitude by the bartender. The bartender was simply so rude to me and my 2 lady guests. I almost could not believe it! The 2 other staff members were just standing there looking spineless, ineffective and sheepish. I think they were embarrassed about his behavior. Try it out if you want...but if you sit at the bar I guarantee you'll get some kind of flip-ass comment. Decided to pick a neutral territory spot as I was coming from the south and my buddy lives north of here... so there we were. I got The Erin cocktail, it might be my new favorite cocktail. When I told the bartender I didn't know what Suze and Bigallet were (and yes, I consider myself a professional alcoholic)... he was kind enough to give me small tastes. The bartender was smart enough to semi-insist we get Cheese Curds to share... thank God he did and we listened! The batter was so light. So tasty. I would almost go back just for that. I say almost, cause then our burgers came. This meat is very dry-agey-funky... if you don't like the funk... stay away... but my buddy and I? Weeee want the funk!!! :) You could barely see the burger meat cause the melted cheese was overflowing all over it. A huge heap of very very solid, thin, crunchy fries made this one of the best burgers in NYC (probably my current favorite in Brooklyn). When I think about going to a bar and grabbing a burger, this will be one of the top choices in my mind, which maybe a gross disservice to (what I'm sure are) other great things on the menu. On a side note, there's a back room, with a giant TV. I happened to be sitting in front of it, and another patron asked to watch the NBA Playoffs. When they turned it on, I could barely talk to my dining partner in front of me, it was very distracting and kept giving me a headache. To their credit, the staff asked my permission before turning it on first, seeing as I was sitting directly smack dab in front of it. AND they were nice enough to switch us to the bar when it was clearly giving me a headache... but I'm still trying to figure out why there's a TV that big in a room that small? (Or why there's a TV in a bar that is clearly trying to harken back to a time before TVs for that matter :). read more

A below mediocre experience. We ordered two cocktails (boulevardier and a gimlet) which were fine, prepared as they should have been. The bartender with the glasses was terrible. He may have said three words to us, No, No, Yes. One of the No's was in reference to "is trout a bony fish, I don't remember the last time I've had it" Bartender shrugs "No" First bite,of course it has a bone in it as well as the second bite. Fortunately those were the only bones but it made we want to get out of there as soon as possible. I don't think it's fair to sweat a couple bones in the fish or maybe a surly bartender here and there. In this scenario it just seems like if the team isn't going to put in the effort why should we?
