As a girl born and bred in the South, this restaurant was like an old friend! This is an a la carte cafeteria style eatery with delicious Southern cuisine. As I walked down the food line I could choose from a variety of meats and veggies. I chose to get a side salad from the salad bar and a veggie plate - mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed corn, broccoli, and butter peas. But the dessert choice - oh my! - homemade Southern banana pudding with the water layers and meringue. Somebody here knows how to cook! The best part- the price! It is very reasonable and a better quality of food than you'd pay more for at a fast food place. This was obviously a community hangout for families. I like going to this restaurant. It has solid quality food, somewhat reasonably priced. The only thing I wish they would consider is to turn that big ass TV on something other than Fox News. I went yesterday and they had a very nice gentleman playing really good music at lunch! It was great then this TV spewing crap. That particular TV show, and any other news station right now, is so divisive and I'd just really like to have a nice meal without the politics. We really enjoyed all the options available on this cafeteria style eatery. We stayed in Gainesville 3 days and went there twice for breakfast and were about to head there a 3rd time but they were closed on Sunday. The food was fresh, hot, quick and tasty. Very poor customer service and communication. I spoke directly to the owners son and received no indication that he was interested listening to or solving my issue. Do not leave anything behind as the staff will make it their own after a few days even if you call. My wife and I frequent Longstreet Cafe weekly. I accidentally left my Yeti tumbler at my table and did not realize this until I got home after they closed. I called and left a message. The next morning Justin called me and left a voicemail letting me know to call him back. I called the restaurant back later that day and let them know I would be in to pick up tumbler in a week as we left on vacation. We returned and picked up tumbler as discussed and noticed it smelled of coffee. I do not drink coffee so we spoke to Clemente and he indicated maybe it had been washed. He suggested we speak to Justin. I called Justin, the owners son, who told me in no certain words that the he did not have time to discuss this with me he was busy and we should be glad that it was saved. I asked him if he lent his tumbler out to his friends to use and he hung up. I called back and explained that this was unusual for the tumbler to smell of coffee when I do not drink coffee and he made some comments stating that no good deed goes unpunished and that he does not have time to speak with me as he is very busy. read more

While passing through the area I wanted to find a good breakfast place and this place showed up as a top recommendation on Trip Advisor. Arrived and had to wait in the drive-thru line which was backed up into the street until I could get far enough to turn into the parking area. Did not notice till later there was another entrance behind the place. Once I walked in with a few other people I felt like I was in a cattle run going down a hall to the start of the buffet. I picked up a tray and saw some items were individually wrapped, I knew those items typically cost extra but I didn't see anything about the rest of the buffet. I asked one of the employees on the other side of the serving area how much the breakfast buffet was and what was included, I don't think she spoke English as she replied by asking if I wanted a pancake. I went down the line and just picked up items that were not individually wrapped. Got to the cashier and he went through and added up each individual item on my plate. With a drink, it was $15. I looked back down the line and did not see prices on the individual items. Paid and sat down. Not long after I sat down I was asked if I wanted a refill, I told her I was good now but would probably need one in about 5 minutes. Finished my drink but she never returned and none of the other servers walking by that I made eye contact with stopped. I got up and got my own refill so I could continue eating. Great Southern veggies: the string beans (cooked with pork), creamed fresh corn and turnip greens were Dee-lish. Warm cornbread. Grab extra napkins. Very attentive service staff (but not hovering). I would leave this place 4 stars easily, except their prices on some things are absolutely insane. My husband eats here regularly when he's working. He brings me here now and then on his day off. Most days, his breakfast is about $6-$7. When we eat lunch together, we both get salads, sometimes an extra meat or side. It's usually about $25 for both of us. Not too bad. But we went there for breakfast and our jaw hit the floor. $25 for two people for BREAKFAST. I looked at the receipt and they charged me... get this... $2.69 for 2 eggs. I mean, it was one spoonful of scrambled eggs on my plate. My husband doesn't eat eggs, so I guess that's why his breakfast is usually more affordable. I mean, $2.69 for EGGS? I could get a whole dozen organic, free-range eggs on sale for that! Why do they charge so much for eggs? Also, if you like country ham, don't get the stuff they have in the liquid. My husband made that mistake and the liquid sucked all the salt out and it was the blandest country ham we had ever tried in our lives. The only other option is bizarrely battered and fried. Huh? Battered and fried country ham? WHY???? We also got a bowl of fruit each, and they charged us separately for EACH type of fruit we got. I was charged I think it was $1.49 for ONE slice of cantaloupe, and 99 cents for ONE strawberry. What in in the actual F? Their food is really good for the most part. Great biscuits and cornbread. Great fried chicken. But it can be really hit or miss. So far I have discovered to avoid: * The country ham in liquid, because it's flavorless * The country fried steak is mushy on occasion, so watch out * The eggs, because although they taste good they are CRAZY expensive * The baked chicken, because it's dry as heck I think these are their highlights: * Great salads with lots of fresh selections * Fried chicken is flavorful, only occasionally dry * Macaroni and cheese is some of the best I've had * Gravy is flavorful * Mashed potatoes are pretty decent * Biscuits are exceptionally good * Cornbread is quite good Most of the food is nothing to write home about, but there are a few gems scattered amongst the rough. The dining room has reopened. The food is as delicious as ever. Portions may not be quite as large in some instances as you no longer serve yourself. They have limited the selection as well. Now instead of having your choice from 8 meats and 242 vegetables patrons are forced to choose between two or three meats and a handful of sides. There's a young high school looking, Hispanic girl wearing big fake eyelashes working the window who needs to learn proper customer service in the food industry. EXTREMELY rude with a bad attitude. I get help is hard to find these days... but come on. Do a little better than her! The issue was I ordered 2 family meals online over 3 hours prior set to pick up at a scheduled time (same meals not difficult to put together). I asked for them to sub Mac & cheese for mashed potatoes in the notes (I STRESS...they've done it in the past for me!!! My kids refuse to eat mashed potatoes lol people with young kids will understand) Online it states it comes with mashed potatoes & green beans. NOWHERE does it say it can't be substituted though) I get to the window to pick up when the girl rudely tells me I have to take the mashed potatoes. Noted I already paid... I had a $50 order overall (2 family meals: 2x 10 chicken tenders, 2 mac&chz, 2 green beans, then 2 banana puddings). The LEAST they could've done was give me a call ahead of time to let me know they wouldn't do it. My number is clearly on the order. I would've been fine & probably just asked for a refund. But my only option at the window (with a line behind me wrapped around the building & out blocking the street, with hungry, tired, & grumpy kids in the car) was to pay for Mac & cheese & take the potatoes anyway. I won't even get into what the girl said to me. Just know it was honestly very rude. (I worked in restaurants for YEARS in the past & no way in hell I would EVER act & say what she said) she also blamed the manager. So if this is true, then the manager needs food industry customer service training too. I called the manager to inform of the event with the girl but was told by a worker that the manager was "busy". ok fine. But don't tell me to "call back later". No thanks. Take my name & number. So I proceeded to tell the worker what happened & she said "ok I will take care of it". Ehh, hopefully she did. But jeez who is running this place & hiring?! Just an issue that could've been avoided overall with proper customer service. I can't even believe I took the time to write all of this but it just really irritated me. Good traditional country food as good as Grandmas. Wished they had meatloaf more often in the week, my favorite. They have recently started opening for dinner and it is a great place for that. Also try them for breakfast too. The biscuit and gravy is a real treat. They have almost every type of breakfast meat you can think of. Two main reasons I give this place three stars, pricing and salt. I do like the food here,though I feel they use way to much salt on most things. The pricing is never the same each time even when you order the exact same thing. They list what the individual prices of items are but it never seems to come out the same. That gets annoying. I recommend breakfast at Longstreet. It's just a great, Southern, comfort food style buffet that's reasonably priced. I'm not usually a fan of anything mass-produced, but Longstreet makes it work. Biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, hash browns, fruit- the whole spread and it's so good! I'm apparently partial to breakfast here, but lunch or dinner is also really delicious.
