My wife and I have lived in Gainesville for over six years, and we have probably driven past Quillians Grill & Catering Co. hundreds of times on our way toward Cleveland. Every time we'd say, "One day we need to stop there." Well, we finally did, and we were so glad we did! For some reason, we always assumed this was mainly a steakhouse. It's definitely not. They have a big menu with plenty of different choices, plus daily specials that give you even more options. We started with the buffalo chicken tender bites with ranch. These were some of the most tender and juicy chicken tenders I've had. The buffalo sauce had a little kick without being overly spicy. My wife thought it had a little too much vinegar flavor, but I personally really enjoyed it, especially dipped in the ranch. Either way, that plate disappeared quickly. We also tried the fried ravioli. We order fried ravioli fairly often, and one of my complaints at some restaurants is that you get a lot of fried dough and very little filling. Not here. These actually had a good amount of cheese filling inside, and they were great dipped in the marinara sauce. For my meal, I ordered the prime rib cooked medium with cheese grits and mac & cheese. It also came with a roll and au jus. The prime rib was excellent. One of the things I really appreciated was how much actual meat I got. I've ordered prime rib at other places where a huge portion ends up being fat. This one had a little fat, of course, but most of that big piece was delicious, tender meat. I poured the au jus all over it and went to work. The cheese grits and mac & cheese were both great sides as well. My wife ordered the chicken and dressing platter with squash and potato salad, along with cornbread. It was a big plate of classic comfort food and she really enjoyed it. Then came dessert. My wife ordered the chocolate chip pumpkin cheesecake, and I ordered the lemon curd cheesecake. When I say that lemon curd cheesecake was one of the best cheesecakes I've had, I'm not exaggerating. It was fantastic. The lemon curd on top paired perfectly with the cheesecake. We also got to meet the owner, Denise, who was walking around checking on everyone. When she found out it was our first visit, she was genuinely excited to hear what we thought and made sure we had everything we needed. While talking about how good the desserts were, she told us that her daughter is behind all of the baked goodies up front. They had cheesecakes, cakes, brownies, cobblers, cookies and all kinds of other desserts that looked amazing. That's going to be dangerous on future visits! Our waitress, Olivia, was awesome as well. She was friendly, kept our drinks filled and checked on us throughout the meal without overdoing it. Great service from beginning to end, and plenty of Coca-Cola refills! The restaurant itself is much larger than it looks from the road. There are two indoor seating areas with comfortable tables and chairs, plus a very large outdoor patio. The inside has an older, rustic feel with lots of wood and darker lighting, which fits the building well. Good food, big portions, fair prices and a genuinely friendly team. After driving past Quillians for more than six years saying we'd eventually stop, we've officially corrected that mistake. Now we need to come back and start working our way through those daily specials. Definitely a GO for us, and we'll be back! read more

My husband and I both order the chicken livers with gravy, slaw and fries. The fries were very good, livers were undercooked, the slaw was room temperature and dark color. The waitress totally forgot the gravy. We looked forward to trying the livers, so disappointed! Order a slice of key lime cake($5) no flavor to the cake. Wow! We just discovered Quillian's Grill last week and have already made it a point to return again this week! I would call their meals "comfort food" and the atmosphere cozy. There's a large menu to select from a some TO DIE FOR desserts up front - do not pass these up or you'll regret it. I've enjoyed a tender and juicy filet here that came with 2 sides and toast (I went with mac n cheese & green beans). Next time around I went with the Fried Shrimp and Mashed potatoes and gravy. Best fried shrimp I've ever had...seriously! The batter was delicious. I look forward to coming back many more times in the future and potentially using Quillian's to cater an event. read more

They have delicious food and their desserts are even better. Super sweet owner and staff! It's also a neat place to throw a small party or shower on their back porch. It's covered and has plastic up to keep it warmer in the winter. Highly recommend. I love their onion rings. read more

I came to this restaurant for the second time tonight and it was great. We had a group of 10 and they fit us in and gave great service. All the food and appetizers were delicious. I tried many of my friends entrees and they were definitely awesome choices. My favorite part of the meal was dessert, and they had a huge variety. Hands down one of the best restaurants around. Our waitress was amazing and informative about the menu. The owner walked around and asked each table how their service was. My brother is getting married and was looking for a catering service which they provide. He had a prime rib sandwich which he said was amazing. I had the ribeye with red potatoes and collard greens which were on point. Desserts were out of this world, best banana pudding I've ever had. We stopped in for a meal on the way home from winetasting. I had a New York strip and it was fantastic. It was really pretty in there. They don't serve alcohol but they allow you to bring your own wine and charge a small cork fee. I'll definitely go back. read more

A hidden gem! Great service. Fantastic food! Decent prices. My retirement buddy and I went there for lunch. I got the prime rid sandwich and my buddy got the grilled pork chops. My prime rib sandwich was perfect. Juicy prime rib so tender it literally melted in my mouth. It was so good I was literally sad to finish it. Even the fries were great. Crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside. My buddy said his pork chops were perfect. Smokey grilled flavor, tender and moist. He gave them two thumbs up. He really liked his fries too. A fantastic surprise! On a visit from Texas I was told that I couldn't order a bad meal at Quillians! Well they were right! Denise, one of the owners, was absolutely welcoming, and made us not only feel instantly like family but showed us around. The food was great! We ordered the steak, chicken, cheese sticks, salad, and the amazing fried green tomatos. If you are in the area check this place out! A decent little place in an old home that's been renovated into a restaurant. From the exterior I wasn't impressed but once inside, the place was still beautifully decorated from Christmas. The fireplace was an extra nice touch on our winter's visit. Our little waitress was wonderful and continually checked back to make sure we were accommodated. While I've dined at finer establishments, for the area, it was probably considered upscale as its location is considerably north of gainsville. Food quality was ok and fairly priced. No dessert was offered tho the place is supposed to be known for their homemade cakes. I would return if in the area however. read more

We didn't want to drive far on New Years Day so we decided to try Quillians Grill. We got there at 5:45 and the parking lot had a few cars. We walked in and had to wait for someone to greet us because the staff were talking and kidding around. They finally noticed us and we were seated. A young server came over and asked what we wanted. We had a couple questions which he couldn't answer. Instead of saying he would find out, he just said he didn't know. We finally ordered, even though we really wanted to leave. I ordered the salmon patty and a sweet potato and my husband ordered the steak sandwich with a baked potato. It took a half hour to get our food even though their was only two other couples there. I looked down and noticed that I received a baked potato instead of a sweet potato. It took ten minutes to get the right potato. My salmon patty was so salty that I couldn't eat it and the sweet potato was like a rock. My husbands steak sandwich was tiny and dried out. We told the server and got no place; when we asked to speak to the manager no one came. So we paid the bill and just left. In an area where there are no other restaurants, this place should be packed. The food is horrible and management is worse. Don't waste your time or money. read more

My girl friend and I were on our way back from hiking the Coosa backcountry and starving for meat. After a 14 miler, she wanted steak and I wanted a school of fish or herd or cattle. This place was a nice little stop -- cutely decorate with complimentary live music at the time, we sat outside and were serenaded by a lovely girl and her guitar. My friend had the steak, mushrooms and side salad with Texas Toast. The steak was cooked exactly how she wanted; flavor was fantastic; and can we just rave about the large bella mushrooms? I got that side as well and it satisfied every fungi craving I've ever had. I had the salmon with mango salsa -- the salsa was a bit much over the salmon, which was supposed to be blackened. I scooted that off the side and used it more on my toast :) But the salmon was flaky, pink and perfect. I left nothing on my plate. Only detractor was the initial entrance - a bunch of awkward stares by teenage waitstaff made me cautiously want to back out. We didn't look (or smell) THAT awful from our hike! LOL. But our server was sweet as pie. Would definitely venture here again, post hike or not! Was a great, off the beaten path surprise. read more
