It's a nice looking place from afar but has its challenges. Nails sticking out of the stairs. No safe in room. The aforementioned temperature. This review is for their lack of compassion and inability to understand a situation that made it impossible for me to stay at their Inn. I missed the last connecting flight to Indianapolis and had to fly the day after. As a result I was not able to make it to the Inn for the night I had booked. Per their policy they don't refund bookings canceled within the last seven days from the stay date. I asked them to kindly make an exception given that I had to cancel for reasons that were totally beyond my control. They said No. It is their policy no to refund, but it is their choice to be nice and kind. They choose no to. It goes without saying that I won't stay here in my future trips to Indianapolis. Nor do I recommend them for the antiquated policies and lack of compassion. read more

We stayed there for Valentines Day. That night as we were watching tv and getting ready for bed I kept getting bit on my back. We found bed bugs! My back was eaten up by them! It was painful and very swollen. They did refund our money but, we had to leave in the middle of the night, shake out all our clothes and throw away food that we brought especially for the day, get our coats dry cleaned, and go home worried if we were going to bring them home. It completely ruined our weekend! They refused to refund us for the food we lost. They said it was an allergic reaction from the food. I promise you it was not. We also found blood on the sheets when looking for the bedbugs and I actually killed one and showed them. read more

Stayed at this hotel on our way to Indianapolis, and i tell you this place is beautiful! The interior is very chic and there are beautiful details everywhere. Its extremely clean in a gorgeous neighbourhood. Our host was very helpful and accommodated everything we needed. They delivered breakfast in a basket in the morning and it was eveything we needed to get back on the road. Highly recommend staying here if you are in Indianapolis. read more

RIDICULOUS! In June 2017, I made reservations for 2 rooms at this establishment. I am no longer traveling to Indy and had to cancel. My reservations were for June 20-24th and I canceled today March 15th. We are talking 2.5 months IN ADVANCE and I am charged a FOR BOTH ROOMS at the FULL PRICE when I will not be there. Their rationale/excuse is that they there was a notification of a "Special Event" and that this is standard policy. Standard policy is to rip you off and keep your money when you give more than ample time for the rooms to be re-booked. I am guessing customer service does not play into consideration. As a small company, one would think customer service would be in the forefront. Instead it is "well gee we are a small company and cannot afford to have cancellations." I am a small company myself. Hence, when I discovered that I cannot attend I canceled way in advance. I have NEVER had an issue with any hotel when I have needed to cancel. Their policy is to be shared equally among everyone no matter the situation. So if you book here and something occurs so that you cannot go--expect that they will be unkind and treat you like you in a manner that they would never want to be treated as an individual. But note to self--when I do travel to Indy this is certainly my last resort. I would rather sleep on the streets than stay here for having such a STUPID policy. It is not like my cancellation was at the last minute. I could understand the need for a fee. I am a business owner myself HOWEVER this is MARCH and the rooms were booked for JUNE. LOVED this place! It's a 6 bedroom gem, and my boyfriend and I were the only ones there 2 nights ago!! Felt like little kids having the place to ourselves and exploring. All rooms are decorated impeccably, beautiful antique furniture, stained glass windows, and knick knacks. Stayed in the Willow Room, and we both agreed that it was one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in. Continental weekday breakfast wasn't special, but it didn't matter we were that impressed. Check this place out! FYI -- their "sister" B&B, The Stone Soup Inn, is right down the road. read more

1st time at a bed and breakfast and this will inevitably be the gold standard. Was in town for Gencon 2013 but all the hotels were spoken for. Plan 'B' was this place, specifically, the Gold Room, and in retrospect, it should've been Plan 'A'. Cheaper ($115/night), better amenities, no parking issues, vastly more personable, morning breakfast was good, just more for your money overall. Kathy the innkeeper, was amazing on a personal level, and professionally speaking, was beyond reproach. She really set the mark high. It really illustrated the difference between typical lodging and a bed and breakfast, I suppose. I'm a very willing convert in this respect. Safe/scenic neighborhood, very close to bus lines, not too far removed from downtown (about a 20 min walk to the convention center from the Inn), free/ample parking, and extremely Victorian in feel. Very classy and elegant but not so formal you feel out of sorts. I suppose the pics speak for themselves. read more

I just came back from The Looking Glass B&B. I rented 2 rooms, the Portrait room (my cousin stayed in this room), and the Crimson Room for myself. The house is beautiful and decorated with lovely antiques that suit the style of this large Victorian home. It is on a quiet residential street, in a the beautiful Old North Side Historic District of Indianapolis, where two women felt safe to walk around & see all of the amazing homes and gardens. It is within walking distance to many wonderful restaurants, shops, and attractions. We were there to see a show a the Murat Theater and planned to walk but ended up taking an Uber due to rain ($5.0O Uber ride not bad). We checked in on a Thursday afternoon, checked out Friday late morning. Many comfortable areas outside of your room to relax both inside & out. Convenient key fob entry/exit that was secure & allowed us to come & go as we pleased. The Portrait Room was prettier than the Crimson room, but less private as the only main floor room across from the breakfast room where you can hear set up for breakfast ( maybe not for someone who sleeps in until 10am!). Both were comfortable with private bathrooms. Breakfast was ok, nothing special, bagels, cereal, fruit, coffee, juice, & pastries for the most part. Parking was ample and no-hassle. Staff was really friendly, it was immaculately clean, and reasonable prices. I will return for sure . read more

DO NOT STAY HERE. The owner is greedy and will scam you out of a dollar in any way possible. Also it is INFESTED with bed bugs as well as understaffed and clearly run down. There are many better places to stay in Indy, at the very least very many that aren't infested with bed bugs and overpriced. read more

First time at a B&B. Loved the place, loved the room, and love the service. Very beautiful part of the City. I recommend the Green Room to those who love a Jacuzzi; it was the best part of the room. The area is also a 10 minute walk/3 minute drive to Greg's (Infamous Gay Bar in Indy) which is a great place to hang out and have a few drinks. Overall, this place is great and I recommend it to everyone. Don't like Hotels? The Looking Glass Inn is a great substitute. read more

My first stay at an inn, and I'm sold. The environment is very warm and inviting, definitely what one would hope for in a place to stay. Way better than the cold, sterile feel of a large chain hotel. Not to mention that the price was better than a large chain hotel. And everything was within walking distance. We stayed in the Portrait Room, which is on the first floor. Really enjoyed the claw-foot tub. The butler's pantry offered free chips, popcorn, soda, and tea. The continental breakfast was great too, offering an array of choices from fresh fruit to muffins and boiled eggs. read more

I had booked two nights for my daughter and son in laws wedding night. They could only stay one night because of work. Never got refunded for the second night. I bought the package where they were to get a bottle of wine and some cake in their room. No bottle of wine, I was still charged for it. They said the cake was okay. Breakfast was below average, nothing special even though I told the booking person it was their wedding celebration. Don't waste your time or money on these people, they don't know what a good exchange for money is and once they have your money they couldn't care less. read more

We frequently stay at B & B's and enjoy the historic homes and furnishings. This one does a great job of providing comfortable furnishings that maintain the period theme. I would have liked information available about the history of the home, etc., that is in most B & B's. Breakfast was not great, but the modest price was still great for the overnight. read more

It is close to everything-an easy bus ride, car ride, or cheap uber ride (which I suggest, because parking in Indy can be quite expensive). I recently returned from staying in the Portrait Room at the Looking Glass Inn and would not give it more than two stars. Choose a room on the second floor instead, even though there is no elevator. The Portrait Room is dark, is poorly lit, doesn't have a normal door, is right across from the dining and parlor rooms, and has an old tub outfitted with an awful shower head and little water coming out. This room was not intended to be a bedroom, though you will pay the same price as someone with a much better outfitted room and an actual shower in the bathroom. You will feel as though you are the only person in the whole house - totally alone and not welcome. There supposedly is a person on site, but you have to phone a number in order to get any help. That help might be on-site, in another house, or who knows where. At the time I was there, the television had no reception, there is no phone in the room, no adjustments for heat or cold - you are stuck with whatever has been programmed into the "nest" thermostat via someone's cell phone, and if you want to read, bring your own bulbs!. The location is good for walking to President Harrison's home (where everyone is wonderful), but don't expect the same warm and fuzzy feelings from the Looking Glass Inn. read more

This was the first time I've stayed in a Bed & Breakfast. I'd heard the general complaints about them, but that was not the case here. My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary in Indianapolis and stayed in the Rose Room during our stay. The place is tucked away near downtown, but in a residential area. The first good thing I can say is, wow, what a clean establishment. Breakfast was nice, and I would absolutely recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice stay near downtown without the downtown traffic. read more

Sparkling package for $50 lacked the sparkling wine, just two small choc cakes. Massages $100 each for 2, were scheduled and unchangeable, no flexibility. Breakfast minimal. Room was chilly. No refund on missing wine package, no rescheduling of massages. Basically bad service. Never again. read more

Beautiful decor and classic charm. Helpful staff with good knowledge of the area. Four parking spaces in the lot behind the house. I especially enjoyed flipping through the old photo albums and highschool yearbooks from the 1920s. I would stay here again. read more
