My husband and I spent 4 nights there. We usually stay at hotels, however the inn popped up when I looked for a place close to Douglas Park. We decided to be adventurous and stay there. Our stay was delightful and the staff members were very accommodating and friendly. Daily continental breakfast was awesome and the best part each morning, was, meeting and conversing with different people. Shared information and learning is always great. Special shout out to Pam and Yvonne for going above and beyond to ensure that we were ok. A special mention/ thanks to Dewayne, even though he is no longer an innkeeper there. We also liked the ability to get a bus to the transit center and to different areas. If there is a need for accommodation again, we won't hesitate to return to the Stone Soup Inn. read more

We ended up starting our vacation a day early and got to our destination in Indy that eve. Checked yelp and found this little gem at 7:30 pm. Called and told David we needed a place to sleep and he went right to work getting our room ready. I just hosted a group of 8 individuals for 2 weeks for a business event and we loved every detail at the Stone Soup Inn. The front desk staff were all very friendly, the location was fantastic, and the rooms were perfect for our stay. This must be one of the best little gems in Indianapolis! The building is lovingly restored to the craftsman/revival style. The downstairs common area is classy, elegant, yet homey at the same time. I was attracted to this B&B due to their lovely lofts. I dont know why they do not post more pictures of these lofts on their website. They are so cute and cozy! Each is furnished with a full kitchen set up. We stayed in the NE loft. I loved sleeping in the loft "in the sky" (see my pics). The two person Jacuzzi tub was a wonderful bonus. We also loved the complimentary snacks and refreshments and breakfast. Although the full breakfast is only served on weekends; we met a spread that is way more than the typical "continental" breakfast on Monday morning. The inn is also on the bus line and only about a half mile from downtown. For about the same price as a typical downtown hotel room, minus the daily parking rate of $15-25; plus the snacks and breakfast; there is definitely value in staying in a B&B. I booked the Craftsman room for a Saturday night stay. The entire experience was wonderful. I loved the neighborhood (great for a run and within a mile to a bunch of great restaurants), appreciated the parking, my room was lovely and I was surprised by a beautiful breakfast basket on Sunday morning. as a first time visitor of Indianapolis, this place exceeded my expectations. The staff is incredibly friendly and always willing to help. They even leave you an "after hours" number to call for anything you need! I do recommend specifically *calling* (if you have to), as I tried to text the number given about the guest in the room next door to mine (i stayed in the SE loft, them in the NE loft) smoking weed in their room. I didn't get a reply back so I'm not sure if the message came through or not. The rooms are very clean and genuinely taken care of. This is the perfect place to stay if you're looking for a more personal and unique room in the city. This was a great place to stay for New Years Eve. I already can't wait to come back! read more

We booked the Lilly Room during our little getaway trip. They use the Ring system to be able to see/hear guests and let them in. The innkeeper was just across the alley and responded quickly to let us in as well as give us a tour of the house. When we got back from the concert and tried to use the tub however, we couldn't get any hot water to it after ten minutes of trying each tap individually. The shower got hot though. The tub was our biggest reason for booking that room instead of the cheaper ones, so it was a big let down. The tv also wouldn't work and the batteries in the remote seemed to be dead. Since it was almost midnight by the time we found all this, we just went to bed. Sad that we didn't really get to use the amenities of the room since we sprung for a more expensive room for them. Everything was clean and the innkeeper was warm and inviting. The continental breakfast was spread out so pretty in the morning that it looked like it wasn't even real and that was wonderful to wake up to. The tub worked as we were leaving, so I guess there's just no hot water to it at night. Would have left less stars, but the innkeeper was apologetic and genuine, and made the experience as a whole okay even if the amenities weren't. read more

This B&B was so unexpectedly delightful. It is a beautiful, historic inn but the best part is the customer service. The owners made a point of meeting me and the staff were incredibly friendly. There are multiple public areas available for use all day long with books and games for your enjoyment. They also keep the butler's pantry stocked with drinks and snacks. I stayed in the Garden Suite which had a kitchenette. I wish I could've stayed more than one night and taken full advantage of all the amenities in the room. There is a door in the room which goes to a storage area and can only be locked from the other side. As a single woman, I would've appreciated at least a sliding lock on my side for some security. There were also lots and lots of restaurants within a couple miles of the inn. read more

Extremely unique! I'd definitely recommend this location if you've never stayed at an inn before! This was my first trip there, and I'll definitely be coming back for future trips. If you're accustomed to staying at high-class hotels, this might not meet your expectations, but if you're a person who appreciates a nice home with unique details, you ought to try this one. Breakfast was amazing. We had quiche, fresh fruit, coffee, and orange juice, ready at 8am! Strangely, we were the only pair staying in a room that night. After a very long, but joyous day, my wife and I came here for our wedding night. Located in the old historic district, this old mansion was perfect for us. We had eaten at St. Elmo right before we got there, and so it was about 8:00 by the time we arrived. The inn was hidden behind large trees, and had a small parking lot. We walked up to the door, but it was locked. We rang the doorbell. We heard a scurry throughout the house. Eventually the door opened and there stood a quirky woman, somewhat out of breath. "Hello," she muttered. "Welcome to the Stone Soup Inn." She looked every which way and seemed somewhat nervous. "Let me show you around." So she showed us the inn and told us what we could expect. It was a great, rustic place. It had antiques all around, and the rooms were well decorated. The woman was super nice. We finally came to our room, the Lilly Room. It has a bay window with a bathroom that has a two person jacuzzi. We had a small refrigerator with complimentary drinks. The best thing is that we practically had the place to ourselves. That next morning we went down to the dining room. (A room with a small dining room table) and ate breakfast with a man from Canada and a man from France. One man was here for a conference, the other for a wedding. A delightful conversation occurred. In the bedroom, there is a book at the foot of the bed which allows everyone to write their story. It was great to read everyone's stories. The place had a baby grand piano if you would like to play it, and they also have a library with books and DVD's in it. It was a wonderful place and a wonderful experience. The perfect wedding night getaway. read more

Oh my! Here for a conference. I booked everything late and was struggling to get a place to put my head for around $100 a night. Then I came across Stone Soup Inn I could not have been more happy. I was able to secure a loft and it wad truly delightful. Decent bed for two (I was on my own!) a fridge, oven, microwave, sink, cupboards, great subdued paint and lighting, writing desk, walk thru closet/passage to own bathroom with very clean toilet, shower, basin and room to spare. The atmosphere is very old world - charming and homely. Very tastefully decorated in proof correct fashion. Free snacks and tea/coffee was another bonus. The booking people were very thorough and because I was arriving around midnight, were careful to explain how to get my key and how to find my room. I would love to come back here and sit on the porch in summer! read more

There is a weather emergency snow storm set for Indianapolis this weekend and Stone Soup Inn would rather us get in a car accident than lose out on their money. This was going to be our first ever bed and breakfast experience and we were very excited, but just as they told us "the weather is not within our control". Obviously we would be going on our weekend getaway had it not been for record snowfall expected. So glad to know they would be okay with us dying in a car crash to get to our B&B stay instead of just letting us cancel our reservation or at least offer another weekend or something. And yes travel insurance for a two day stay is ridiculous and we assumed we would've gotten the same courtesy as a regular hotel and at least refund some of the money. So this just makes me assume you are awful people. Thanks for ruining any bed and breakfast experience for us forever. read more

I admit that the price seemed too good to be true; however, when looking for a place to stay for 5 nights, it seemed quite reasonable. The "lower level entrance" should have been my first clue that it's actually in the basement of the inn, but I didn't pick up on that. The inn's website explains that the Garden Suite "...offers a tranquil seclusion as well as a private bath. A heavenly queen bed, kitchen, desk and bistro table make this a serene escape for business or pleasure." There is nothing tranquil about this room. It is directly beneath the kitchen/dining room, and it's like staying in your parents' basement during a family reunion during which no one sleeps in and they all stomp around in the kitchen above you while you are trying to sleep in. Additionally, the stairs to the room are treacherous, at best, and if it's snowy, you track in all of the rock salt and there's no door mat to wipe your feet on. In fairness, the rest of the inn looks lovely, I would definitely not recommend the Garden Suite, however. The location, however, is great! read more

My husband and I stay in B&B's whenever we travel. We've seen some doozies! Stone Soup Inn is the best place we've stayed, in every way. The staff, Duane, Nikki and Pam went out of their way to accommodate any requests we had. They responded immediately when I needed an extra washcloth. They have embroidered "Make Up" washcloths!!! Our room was beautiful, CLEAN and extremely comfortable. The owner spared no expense gathering Arts and Crafts furniture and decor for every room - and that is not a cheap endeavor. There was plenty of room for us to gather with family members we met there. The staff even put on jazz music for us when we sat for a glass of wine at the end of the night. A walk around the neighborhood was awesome to see all beautifully restored homes. The continental breakfasts were robust and delicious. By the time we left after a 2-night stay, we felt like family. My first experience at a B&B and I loved it! I would suggest the experience to everyone. This one in particular has lots of room options, some with shared bathrooms and some with private (all the ones I saw had fantastic, giant tubs just calling out to me for a bubble bath). The rooms were cozy and clean. The house also had several other rooms to explore, full of board games, books, a piano, and photos with lots of history. It was so neat to have those open areas to meet and chat with the other visitors. The social aspect of a B&B is the extra oomph I have been looking for while traveling. Sharing breakfast with perfect strangers at the family dining room table was so fun! It was cool to read through visitors messeges in the guest book in each room too. The guy running the place was sweet as ever. He served a simple but tasty breakfast on the weekday. Bummed I missed out on the big meal on the weekend. Everything went just as smooth as ever which made all the difference since we had a wedding to focus on. My only complaint it the lack of parking. read more

A strange location, but a great little addition to the Old Northside.

This is special spot for my husband and I. We first came here when we were going through a rough time and wanted to get away from reality for two days. It gave us time to relax and unwind. What we like about it most is that even though people are staying here, it feels just like the two of us is only here which is a HUGE plus. Everyone is quite and respectful. The rooms are romantic and cozy. The hot tubs are soooo relaxing. My husband and I both fit in it together. I also love the rainforest soap they have. It smells so good. Love the game boards and the snacks they have available as well. The innkeeper is always nice and kind. Definitely plan to come back again next year. This place was a total win for me. I was in town for a small conference and the hotel was sold out. This place came up on Trivago, and after a little review, I thought I'd give it a try. The cost was less than the conference hotel, and the experience was so much more! One of the things I love about staying at local inns/B&B's is that they can offer more flexibility than your typical hotel. I was able to request my own check-in time and did so, requesting a time shortly after lunch, a time when most hotels "can''t guarantee." I was also able to hang around and get some work done in the morning before my meeting with no firm checkout/the cleaning staff hovering. The accommodations were great. Warm and homey but not homely. Classy, clean, and tasteful. My room (NW Loft) had a living space, kitchenette stocked with non-food supplies (which I wasn't expecting), separate bathroom, and lofted bed. I could have slept all morning as the loft was cozy, dark, and warm. I peaked in some other rooms when I checked in, and they all shared these positive qualities. There are also common areas inside and out, if you were with a group and looking for space to congregate, or read by yourself. The building had rfid entry and rooms were deadbolted. While there are hardwood floors, rugs keep things quiet and my general experience is people at these types of places are respectful. Tom, the innkeeper, was friendly and conversational during breakfast and check in. Breakfast was continental (during the week) which was great for me and included fresh fruit, cereal, bagels, muffins, granola/cereal bars, yogurt, and I think I saw boiled eggs. It's a full breakfast on weekends. There's an communal area to sit, or you can take it back to your room. There's also a butler's pantry with snacks and beverages available. The location was easy to find, offered convenient parking, and was in a cute neighborhood. I also was able to walk to Mass Ave in about 20 minutes. Also walkable to the downtown area or a easy/affordable cab ride. The only downside some might see is that there were quite a few stairs. If I'm back in Indy, I would first check to see if this place is available! read more

We stayed in the Lily room for our anniversary weekend. The owner/manager(?) was extremely helpful and kind. Even allowed us to text her with any questions or concerns. Was very flexible with our check-in time. The entire inn was so well put together, had a very homey feel. Lots of rooms for sitting/eating if you don't want to do so in the room. The Lily room itself was beautiful- we definitely took advantage of the jacuzzi tub! The butlers pantry was just next door so we had access to the fridge and ice machine. There were also ice buckets and even a wine bottle opener in the pantry, along with popcorn and other neat items. Unfortunately, our stay just so happened to be in conjunction with all of the riots happening downtown, so we had to leave in the middle of the night. So we didn't get to experience the breakfast or see how comfortable the bed was. I will say- it is an older house with creaks, so every move you make can most likely be heard by other occupants. But honestly I would love to stay again and actually stay the whole night! Just make sure you pick a room that doesn't share a bathroom, which is why we picked the Lily room (private bathroom). My husband and I booked here right before the Covid19 turned into a PANDEMIC. Once it was labeled a pandemic and unnecessary travel was not recommended we tried to cancel. The owner was extremely rude and had zero compassion. The room we booked had a shared bathroom and I did not feel comfortable traveling to share a small bed and breakfast with other guests. Instead of offering us a credit for a future date she decided just taking our money was more appropriate. If you do book here make sure you look at all the pictures! We almost upgraded to a garden room which is far from a garden room (this is what other guests said on their reviews). I believe she deleted the Facebook account with all the negative posts as well. My wife and I decided on a whim to take an overnight stay in Indianapolis and we needed a place to stay. I jumped Trivago and found this little gem! Now, we're not big Bed and Breakfast people, but this place looked cute; the location was close to downtown Indy; and the price was reasonable ($103 for the night). In short, we weren't disappointed! Stone Soup is a old three-story mansion that built in the early 1900s and, as mentioned, only 1.2 miles from downtown Indy. We stayed in the Southwest Loft which is on the 3rd floor. Our room included a kitchenette, a microwave, a small fridge and a private bathroom. Staffwise, we worked with Veon ('V' for short) and he was a gracious, helpful host! A delicious Continental breakfast was included and free snacks were available 24/7. We were glad we stayed at the Stone Soup Inn! I made a reservation on 10/24/16 to stay at this property from 5/25/17-5/29/17 through their website which mentions under their policies that reservations made during "special events" will not be refunded. It also mentions that any refund not during a "special event" will be subjected to a 15% "administration fee". Unfortunately, the site did not list the property's special event dates. I payed by credit card the sum of $406.58 which was 50% of the total price of $813.15. I received an email confirmation which low and behold then, included the special event dates. After making the reservation and submitting a 50% deposit. I was forced to cancel the reservation and called the property on 12/12/20 and spoke to a gentleman who told me that the deposit was 100% non refundable because it was during a special event period. I told him that I was calling almost five months before my arrival and that the reservation website does not list "special event" dates, and only on the confirmation email which I had received. I was told to call in the afternoon and speak to the supervisor which I did and he told me that he had to talk to the owner to grant a refund and that he would call me back the morning of 12/13/20. I never received that call. I then called early afternoon of 12/13/20 and spoke to a woman who told me that the supervisor was not even work that day and that she would contact the owner to grant a refund. She left me a voicemail message in the afternoon of that day saying that she had spoken to the owner and that the owner would be calling me in a few days. I received a voicemail message from the owner on 12/14/16 stating that there would be no refund because it was a special event and that was their policy. I looked at my bank statement on 12/14/20 and noticed that the hotel had charged my credit card the remaining balance of $ 406.57 without my authorization. The owner obviously has set up those policies to insure that her business makes money on any attempted refunded deposits and could care less about guests. Total lack on the owner's part to make any attempt to work with me as a customer in making things right by making an exception to their policies, first, because as I have stated their special event dates were not properly listed on their website, second, because I attempted to cancel the reservation almost five months before my arrival date which would give the property ample time to rebook the room that I had reserved. I would recommend that anyone looking to stay at this property find somewhere else to stay unless you don't mind losing not only your deposit, but also an unauthorized charge for the full amount of the reservation because your travel plans have changed during their unnamed "special event dates" or you travel dates don't fall with in those dates and then be subjected to a 15% "administration fee". I am working with my credit card company to resolve both the deposit and the unauthorized balance charge. I have also contacted the Better Business Bureau and have filed a complaint. I was accused multiple times by the owner of lying, which was completely out of line, and in addition to that, she would not let me reschedule and she kept my money. That is considered stealing, but apparently this woman has no integrity or morals. I suggest giving your bed and breakfast business to a company that treats their patrons like actual PEOPLE. Was I supposed to know the death of my longtime friend and teacher was going to happen? First Yelp, and then the Better Business Bureau. Janeane knows nothing about customer service, empathy, or basic human decency. Do NOT waste your time on any of her properties. read more

This is a hidden gem located north of downtown. Walking distance to a wonderful treasure trove of restaurants and quaint shops on Mass Ave. The rooms are elegantly cozy and full of antiques. I loved hanging out on the huge wrap around porch sipping wine from a bottle that I ordered from their sister Inn. The Villa. I was thrilled to find a Lilly pond stocked with koi fish and surrounded by blooming tulips and a bench for sitting. My room was very cool as it featured a steam bath. I purchased some aromatherapy oils from their spa located at The Villa and loved using them in the steam shower as it was pretty rainy and chilly weather. This was a special treat for sure! The next morning my breakfast was pretty impressive considering that I was told that during the week it was continental. I was only expecting coffee, juice and cold cereal but there was yogurt, fresh fruit, bagels and some yummy muffins. Wow! I will definitely tell my friends about this place. I loved it! The cheaper rooms are a real deal ($85 when I booked), though I hope one day to be able to afford the more luxurious options.
