A zipper broke on the removable cover on my son's baseball catcher's bag. Anyone who has a child in…read morebaseball/softball knows gear can be expensive, especially anything having to do with catcher's gear. We had won the bag in a raffle, and it is expensive to replace (about $200). So I took it down to Luggage Service to see if it could be repaired. The owner was there and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He understood the issue immediately and explained my options. Instead of recommending the most expensive fix (replacing the entire zipper), he recommended permanently attaching the cover to the bag with a piece of leather at the detachment point where the zipper was broken ($30). He said that it's the most economical option and would make the zipper more "boy proof." He said to leave it with him and it would be done in a couple of hours. When I returned a couple of hours later, the bag was behind the counter and his daughter greeted me as soon as I walked in. If you go onto their website, the business has an incredible 107 year history in Tampa with several photos of how the company grew over the century and the historic buildings they occupied. She and I talked about that for a few moments as she cashed me out. Before you throw out a damaged bag or suitcase, consider Luggage Service Repair! They also have a huge selection of luggage and other types of bags for sale in their showroom.

TravelPro no longer has the parts available, so I started calling authorized repair shops. The folks at Luggage Service were so friendly over the phone and provided me an approximate pricing range but stressed they needed to see it before telling me the exact amount. I made the drive from Orlando to Tampa and found out why they have been in business for over 100 years.... quality workmanship, excellent customer service and reasonable pricing. The best thing is that my trusty WalkAbout Lite 3 has a new lease on life and is rolling like a brand-new bag!!

Today, December 28th I returned to the store to return my item as it wasn't exactly what my wife wanted. The very nice lady at the counter informed us we could only get an instore return receipt. This was NOT my understanding when I purchased this bag. The lady working in the store told me "this is the only time of the year I don't like working here". Apparently this store has a history of pulling this trick on customers. We asked to talk with the owner but were told "they are on vacation this week" Isn't that convenient this week after Christmas? My name is Jim White and I can be reached at 618-263-8499 should the owner of this store have the character to call me and make this right. Note: I support the idea of keeping our small business in operation but you never have this problem with Amazon.

Prices were ok not great but in this specialty area, availability is most important. I called before I drove there and they were able to let me know they carry such items.

However, with close to $12B in sales, someone's watching this cable television stalwart... including me. Like most infomercial producers, they are in the instant need creation business. When you woke up this morning I bet you didn't think a set of solar powered garden gnomes or Spanx for your chubby canine would be on their way to your home. But you're about to find out you can't live without either of them. Absolutely no one is impervious to their evangelical zeal. Personally, I have purchased one thing from these capitalist carnival barkers -- a juicer that soon departed the earth after dispensing very little juice. No doubt the squeeze was on me. No matter, I simply can't turn away. Two grass fed steaks on easy-pay for $200. No way, you say... yes way... say their operators. Someone's certainly making their "number sold" chyron spin. Out of the corner of my eye I saw something move swiftly, with a long tail. It was a nasty rat!!! A fat one too! I think it'd been eating the pet food for a while, because it was enormous. That really turned me off, and I haven't come back since. But, since I've been traveling a lot more lately and I'm in dire need of new luggage on the cheap, I unwisely decided to come back here to browse. Well as I was looking for some sturdy checked luggage, suddenly a poopy diaper appeared on the shelf! I'm so mad right now, and disgusted. If they just cleaned and gave a hint of a damn, this Burlington would be at most decent.
