What else can I say about "The Lunch Box" the staff are incredibly friendly and work their tails off. The gentleman at the grill is always busy as a bee. The portions are great. They pay special attention to detail. Their food looks like the advertised menu items. They make their chips to order so they are always hot. Dollar street tacos on Wednesdays yum! This is not the Lunch Box. The real Lunch Box is down on the bottoms on ninth Street. I thought something was going on when all I saw was Mexican food. In a small strip of shops, next to the barbershop, is the lunch box. I really, really wanted to like this place! Family-owned, a nice young lady behind the counter who was helpful and friendly, a good selection of menu items, etc. just too many things I ended up not liking. I just wanted a glass of water to drink but guess that was not an option so I was given a bottle. I really wanted some guacamole but when I ordered it, I found the only way their guacamole is available is spicy as they mix their guacamole with a spicy sauce. I ordered a steak quesadilla for $6.59. The price was reasonable and it was freshly made but my first six bites had tough meat/gristle in them so I had to spit it out. I was pretty well done after that. With the bottle of water my lunch was over nine dollars. I actually ended up heading over to Queen Taco on 23rd St. to make chips and guacamole my lunch and my nine bucks spent at the lunchbox was down the drain. read more

We got tenderloin sandwiches and fries....maybe the other food is good....but after this time...I HAVE NO DESIRE TO FIND OUT!!!! I am still tasting the burnt grease 25 mins. later. The fries were ok, but the tenderloin was tasteless except for the dirty grease taste. Ordered with mayo., onion and lettuce. That was also ignored. Very disappointed. Had egg, lettuce, mayo., tomato and guac. Only good part was the guacamole sort of covered the nasty grease taste. read more

My husband and I absolutely love this place. When we first moved here from California the search was on for Mexican food that reminded us of home. This little restaurant has been the best local experience for us in Independence! The flavor is spot on, the salsas are amazing, the customer service is wonderful! We really couldn't ask for a better place so close to where we're living. My go to is the chicken soft tacos with mild salsa, and my husband gets the carnitas soft tacos with hot salsa. Absolutely AMAZING food. Came down to Kansas for my birthday, and I was going to a royals game, but needed something to do before the game. I ordered a burrito and two tacos and drink it was about $10.50 with tax. I ate there and they gave me chips and salsa for free while I waited. The food was ok. The meats in the burrito and the taco was very bland but hey it was $10.50 cheaper than taco hell and my $ was going to a local business than a big corporation and I'm all about that! The salsa was bland as well. As I was sitting there that phone to the business would not stop ringing for delivery orders and I was like dang this place does a damn good business model and most of the orders were burgers I was like dang I should come back for the burger! I was able to try their street tacos and tamales from their food truck in the parking lot of advance auto parts on noland. The two ladies working are very friendly. The price was good ($2 each tamale, $1.75 each street taco) and paying was easy using their square device which emailed my receipt to me (love that feature). I got tamales and steak street tacos. They are perfect. The street tacos had a generous portion of meat. The tamales I had to wait to eat until I got home later, but I reheated them in the toaster oven at 325 for 20 minutes. I'm blown away by the taste. They taste just like abuela used to make with a nice spice added. I highly recommend visiting the food truck and / or the restaurant. read more

This was probably the worse open face taco I have ever had. I didn't know you could cook meet without any taste. Apparently you can. Maybe because the proportion of meat to tortilla ratio was so bad. It may have been a tablespoon of meat on each taco. Maybe. I tried chicken, pastor, and carne asada and you literally could not tell any difference or taste the meat.
