Let me begin by saying that we spent years in California and have something really specific in mind when we get burritos. This wasn't it. (no rice, no beans, no sour cream). This is what we would call carne asada wraps. Super tasty! But with just steak, lettuce, tomato, onion, cilantro and avocado... That's a wrap to us. We asked for both the medium and the hot salsas. Medium was very hot to us and hot was blistering. Next time we will try mild. Ordered a taco to try it and that was 100% spot on what we expected. The taste was exactly right and the portion of meat was very good. Also brought home a slice of tres leches cake from the fridge by the register and it was good. Not too sweet. Big enough slice for the two of us to share. I was extremely pleased with the selection of dried chilis and things you don't find in hyvee.

    El pastor tacos.

Go in the door. You won't regret it. Grab your drinks from the coolers then order at the register not the food counter. So good. So good. Sooooo gooood. You will thank me later.

Very Hispanic centric Mercado great selection of fresh baked goods and imported sundries. I'm a white guy and stuck out like a sore thumb but they were very friendly and cooked me some of the best Mexican food I have had outside of nogales and nuevo Laredo. Had a torta #1 and an assortment of the carne asada, churrizo and el pastor tacos. Will definitely be back for more.

It is hidden, but the food is excellent! The burrito was well seasoned and rolled perfectly.

Honestly, perhaps the best steak burrito I've had in Kansas City.

The staff is friendly and are always checking in on you. They have great paintings that make the place stand out and makes you feel like you're actually sitting in a Mexican home having lunch. I do want to note though that some of their seats and floors are pretty old and worn out. The bathroom was also clean. So after you're seated, they give you chips and salsa. I'm not a big fan of chips and salsa but when you're coming in extremely hungry, it serves as a a great appetizer. I love their big beer cup of horchata! I love horchata and the fact that they're not stingy on their serving, automatically gives them a good rating in my book. They have both a vegan and a regular menus, which once again is great because they care about their customers regardless of their diet, allergens, or preferences. On this day we had the cecina platter, birria beef street tacos, and the vegan tacos de canasta. Their mojara frita (fried fish) is also an amazing dish! Overall the food was delicious and we all left pretty satisfied and full. We will continue coming here until we find a reason not to.

They have several vegan protein options to choose from which is something I hardly see in the entire KC area. Parking is plentiful in the back and there is a back entrance in addition to the front. It's always quick seating and service. It's very warm and friendly inside and the portions are huge and very reasonably priced, I think this last visit is the first I've ever gone without leftovers because we split between 3 of us. The menu is huge but the servers are always more than happy to help and answer questions. This last visit we ordered the molcajete and it was incredible I highly recommend trying it with company.

The service was okay! Nothing super special but they answered questions and were helpful at the counter. This was our first time here so we ordered a few things to sample and share amongst ourselves. The first thing we had was the chips and queso, which I thought was a bit expensive at $7.99 but not too bad. The queso was fairly spicy but otherwise nothing special. I usually love queso so it surprised me how neutral I felt toward it! The chips were good, thin and light with a crispy bite to them. We unfortunately didn't get to try the salsa, noticing only at the end of our meal that there was a sauce bar near the counter! The birria tacos were also...okay. They were very juicy but not very uniquely flavored compared to everything else we tried. The meat was tender and I loved the texture of the tortilla, but didn't care for the massive handful of cilantro dropped on top of everything on the plate. The dipping liquid (birria sauce?) was alright! It was the same flavor as the tacos themselves so it didn't add much, but it definitely wasn't bad. The "main course" of what we ordered was a combo of soft chicken tacos, rice, and beans. The chicken tacos were unfortunately very cold by the time we got them which was a bit strange, as almost everything else was hot! They tasted good but I'm really not a fan of eating cold chicken, so I passed them off to my friends. The beans were just okay. There's really not much to say about them. The rice also left me disappointed! I typically devour Spanish rice. Not only was it cold, there were also odd, hard grains of rice mixed in. Not enough to get one every bite but enough that the experience of eating it was off-putting. It was also quite bland. Another note: While we were eating, there was this constant loud droning coming from the air conditioner. I'm a MASSIVE fan of air conditioning so I'm grateful it was on in the first place, but that is something they really need to get fixed. Two women seated near us actually got up and walked outside after commenting multiple times about how disturbing the noise was. My experience here was definitely a mixed bag but it leaned toward the positive, so we'll likely try them again! They had several other menu items I'd like to try, including some American fare that I found intriguing.
