Stopped here for a quick bite to eat while on a road trip. I wasn't that hungry but wanted to try some local food, so I figured I would get an appetizer. The hot crab dip was recommended... and it did not disappoint! It is one of the best crab dips I've ever had. It was served with house made chips, which were also delicious. I sat at the bar and had great service. The waitress was attentive and speedy. I was in and out within 30 minutes! My only suggestion for the restaurant would be to have a list of current market prices for the menu items. Almost half of the menu was listed as "market price", so I didn't know ho much it would be to order. I was interested in trying several different things, but I am quite shy and didn't want to ask. (But I recognize that it is on me!) If you are running through Avon, I recommend a quick trip here for some good grub! read more

Vacationing in Avon with friends, and we stopped by The Mad Crabber. Solid restaurant with great food. Ordered the scallions which tasted great. Fish bites and hot crab dip were amazing appetizers, but I would not recommend the calamari: over fried and stiff. Besides the calamari, I would recommend this place to friends. read more

Little Rockey start to our visit we we're told only 30 min wait, however we ended up waiting over an hour. The food and service once we finally got sat were great. Ordered for takeout in person. It only took about ten minutes. I ordered blackened drum fish with a salad with bleu cheese and collard greens on the side. The fish was good as was the remoulade sauce on it. The salad and dressing were good. The collard greens were a little different than I had expected: it was much less smoky and much more of a sweeter, tomato-y taste to it. I'm glad I asked for an "extra" set of utensils because they didn't include one to begin with. read more

The king crab legs were great! Even though they aren't local, they still tasted fresh. They didn't put any seasoning on the crab which I love because the best flavor of crab is the crab. You get two sides with your entree and the French fries were some of the best I've ever tasted. They are fried in a batter that makes them crispy on the outside. The only thing I would have liked is some way to keep the crab warm. I can't eat fast enough while it's hot so towards the end of my meal the last 3 legs were cold. The fried flounder was the best we've ever had, the lump crab cake was out of the world, calamari was delicious, the chicken tenders (for them to come from a seafood restaurant) was divine, the white slaw was definitely a home made in-house recipe and it's probably the best we've had. The only thing we had that wasn't quite good was the hush puppies. Our Styrofoam container was melted on the bottom from them and they were either left in the fryer too long or double fried. Went to this place because it was close to where we were staying. They add an automatic 18 percent gratuity because maybe it has to do with covid. Anyways it beats me having to do the math for tip. The server was very intuitive and helpful. Ended up eating raw clams and raw oyster, only reason why we went here. No oyster shot tho. The calamari appetizer was good too. It all came out at the same time because they are trying to prevent contamination from going into establishment. Again covid. We were able to sit on the deck and eat but it was in to go boxes. The server "Chad S" was especially rude to our table during our dinner tonight. One of our guests was asking what the shrimp came on (meaning if it came on rice ; greens, etc. ) and he proceeded to reply "on a plate". One of our other guests was asking if she would order soup as a side and he proceeded to say "that's too expensive for you". These were just two examples of the attitude that he continued to maintain for the entire evening. I hope others that visit do not go here expecting to have a sit-down happy environment, because that is the opposite of what you will receive. We arrived right after it opened and were told it would be about a 30 min wait. It was over an hour for our party of 7; 4 adults and 3 kids under 10. Host was less than friendly and seemed uncomfortable with us sitting at the bench, so I took the kids outside to wait, while two adults stayed inside. Finally we were seated after asking how long-almost like they forgot about us. The food came out fairly quick. It was mediocre. My chicken sandwich was undercooked and still pink. I got it back and it was way over cooked. I guess I'm asking too much. They took it off the bill so there's that. Everyone else thought their food was just ok. Way too pricey for the quality. A classic casual beach town seafood restaurant with paper on the tables and lots of steamed shellfish on the menu! Food was hot, delicious and fairly priced. Service was fast and friendly. The name holds true for itself. I really enjoyed the outfit they have running here and the fresh crab was ample for my partaking. I feel that I probably overindulged, but no regrets since the price is right and the food was on point. Everything was well seasoned, delicious, and just great. I think they only complaint I had was the wait for the food. It took quite a bit of time for them to get me and the time I was there wasn't during a busy one at that. Outside of the extended wait time, I felt they offered a great presentation on food and service was solid. I think she was enjoying seeing me make a mess of myself with the crabs as much as I was cracking jokes at the fact that I did not know what I was doing. I do, but it is always a mess. read more
