We had been driving all day and setting up camp at our RV camp and needed a quick dinner before settling on in for the night. We stopped by Neptune's kitchen and dive bar. We were seated right away. Servers were nice and friendly even though it was really busy. Sports on the tv and live music made it a fun even. Food was pretty good. We did have issues with our sodas. We are tourists in the area and visited in the off-season when most of the businesses close early. But we were able to grab dinner at Neptunes (even at November they stay open til 9pm) and had a great time. The kitchen and dive bar has a local feel to it, with customers chatting it up with each other and the staff. The staff themselves are extremely friendly and one of them even checked in on how we liked our food. Every single food item was seasoned and cooked to perfection and I absolutely loved their hush puppies. The mussels appetizer was delicious, and the combo baskets that we got were also really tasty. We were plenty stuffed. The menu offers both fried and steamed seafood options and there are also non-seafood options to choose from. Went here a few days ago for a music festival outside the bar. I did not try the food but the drinks were delicious albeit a little expensive. The security team was kind and helpful if I had any questions too. The outside of the bar had lots of seating and is 18+ even though the inside is 21+ after a certain time. I had a really fun time here and will be coming back next time I was in the area. My only complaint is that there are no outdoor bathrooms so people under 21 had to use the porta potties. read more

Had a late dinner at Neptunes and I'm really glad we did. The restaurant doesn't look that great inside or out but the food was very good. I had the blackened Mahi Tacos and my wife had the fried flounder. We also got the calamari and shrimp appetizer which was by far the best thing we had. It was lightly fried with parmesan cheese and garlic. I finished with the key lime tart and it was good as well. Overall the service was very good. We got there after 8 and even though they closed at 9 the servers were very good and never made us feel unwelcome. Will definitely stop in again on our next trip to the outer banks. read more

Food was okay service was terrible!!!! Place wasn't even busy we were seated at a dirty table. Waiter took our order and that's it never seen her again. Cook brought our food to the table and said hopefully everything is okay because serving isn't his job! After 35min of trying to be patient waiting for said waitress to come back for refills she never came so we kindly asked the waiter serving another table if we could please get some refills and ranch, she said who's your waiter I said I'm not really sure and she said what does she look like I said I can't remember she only took or order and vanished told her she didn't even bring us our food. She walked away came back 12 minutes later and said oh did nobody come!!! Nope still nobody but instead of her getting us drinks herself knowing we asked if she could at least get us refills she proceeds to walk away again take her tables food order and 8 more minutes passes and still nobody waiter still no refills. She comes back one more time and said I don't know what she's doing I told her two times and she went the other way I said can we just please have our check!!! She then walks away and says let me try one more time finally our disappearing waitress makes it to our table tells us I'm sorry I forgot about you clearly were aware then she wants to give us a sob story about how she lost money and got distracted but if we see her lost money to let her know still no refills just hands us the check didn't ask how our food was nothing!!!! Do not come here and make the same mistake we did. If Yelp allowed a zero star policy, this place would be it. My mom and I had just arrived in Rodanthe after a 12 hour drive and we were told by the Air BnB host that most places in town close early. Not knowing the area, we drove to the first place, and it happened to be this place. We ordered two cups of the she crab soup, an order of the calamari appetizer, and a dozen clams. The soup was brought to us, and it was delicious. While we were waiting for the calamari and clams, out of the corner of my eye I saw a cockroach, or as the locals refer to them, palmetto bug, crawling very quickly on the wall to where our booth was. Another customer tried to capture it, but it scurried away too quickly into a little hole under the booth, and we immediately moved to another booth far away from there. I was on edge, so much so that I did not fully sit in the booth. In addition to the cockroach on the wall, there was a little frog jumping on the wall. It did provide me with something to look at as we waited, however it did not provide me with comfort. The calamari and clams finally came out. The clams were supposed to be a full dozen. We received 10. What happened to the other 2? Is this how they cut corners? They didn't taste great. The calamari wasn't that good either. When the bill came, I noticed there was a fee if you payed with credit card. I was so tired that I ended up paying the entire check, not subtracting the credit card fee, with cash. I thought that was super shady. At least say that there will be a small fee added onto the bill if you are going to be paying with credit, but the server added it before, which leads me to believe they are all greedy for more tips. I woke up at 5am the next morning ready to write the review, but my mom told me to wait and see how the other restaurants were. They didn't operate like that, and didn't add the fee onto the bill until you used a credit card, and didn't pay with cash. Ok, I struggled with some of the previous reviews because it clearly states in the name of the place that it's a Dive Bar. So, that SHOULD provide SOME insight into what to expect at this place. Having said that, the food is far better than one would imagine - mahi mahi tacos, steamed shrimp, shrimp po'boy, hush puppies, nachos and the calamari - were all delicious as stated by all in our party of 7!! They have a great beer selection, as well as fun, tropical cocktails. Our waitress was legit on point, super helpful, nice and accommodating. Oh, and did I mention it's a dive bar? We read the reviews and decided to take a chance. The outside of Neptune's is a bit run down. It definitely could use freshening up with some landscaping and wood repair. I wouldn't trust the ramp to use for wheelchair access. We did walk up the ramp bc that is the fastest way in from the parking area. We were greeted and seating very quickly and the hostess was very friendly. Our waitress was very prompt and helpful in describing and helping decide our entree. We ordered a burger, a fried fish basket, and a fried shrimp basket. I also ordered a beer. The beer was not cold but was ok. Honestly though I am more of a lager fan and this was Kittyhawk Blonde. My 12 year old devoured the burger and was pleased. My fish basket was ok. It was clearly frozen but didn't taste fishy so I was glad of that. The batter easily separated from the fish and the fish was a little watery. Again, it was just ok. My husband got the shrimp basket. Unfortunately we get better fried shrimp in Augusta, Ga than what we had here. It was ok as well. The ambience of the place was a little run down but it is described as a dive bar so that did meet their description of the place. It is probably great at night with lots of people and a live band and bar. I wouldn't return to eat there but it was worth a try and the service was great. Ah, what to say about Neptunes. We didn't eat here but came for DJ Night which was absolutely bizarre but absolutely amazing. The service was pretty bad, bartenders ignoring us, but the DJ was fun and it was such a fun time I'm gonna say what the heck and give it 4 stars. Only thing truly bizarre was some woman saying we stole her spot at the bar after we were there with no problem for 30+ minutes. We moved to a table and realized she was sitting there alone...rolling silverware? If this lady was an employee I really don't think she should be sending paying customers away from the bar so that she could roll silverware, if we stayed at the bar and not moved to a table we definitely would've ordered more drinks and spent more money. Went out for Drinks and food and this place was the perfect spot! If your staying anywhere in Rodanthe you have to check this place out especially on a nice day at a time close to sunset. It has the perfect view of sunset on the sound and the food and drinks complete the perfect setting. We got the Shrimp, Mussels, snow Crab, Fish and chips and everything was awesome. The fries were so crispy in the fish and chips and all the seafood was fresh and flavored perfectly. Sorry the photo of the food is just empty plates but it was so yummy I forgot to take the before photo because I got so excited . I got the mermaid water drink and it was tasty and matched the amazing view of the outer banks! The restaurant is a laid back beach setting blended with sports bar. The waitress was excellent and the manager also greeted the table. There is a full bar and we ordered domestic beer and white wine. I wanted a second glass of sauv blanc but the bar had run out of my selection after my first glass. For appetizers we shared crab legs and hush puppies. We needed more than one cracker for the shellfish. For entrees we ordered a scallop special, friend shrimp basket and fish tacos. Everyone loved the food and the entree portions were large. I would have loved more cocktail sauce and some vinegar for all the french fries we ordered. My family and I waited about an hour to get a table. However, I must say that once we were seated, the waitress ordered from us immediately. It took another hour for our food to arrive. The burgers tasted dry, although the tacos were very fulfilling. The cheese sticks were also very appetizing. By the time we got our food we had lost our appetite on account of it being so late. I must compliment the employees on their politeness. There were only 2 waitresses at the time, that might have caused the restaurant falling behind on orders. Took my family out to eat here tonight. We got the combo basket, oyster basket, and burger. Food was great. I appreciated the coleslaw being house made and French fries were really good too. Shrimp, fish, and oysters were fried perfectly. Service was very good even though they were short staffed. I had a margarita which was poured strong and not overtly sweet which is exactly how I like it. Thumbs up on the drinks here too! The workers and management are very unprofessional and rude (they were yelling and cursing at each other in front of my young grandkids and other customers made everyone uncomfortable) , the food took forever to come out and half of our food was cold when we received it , the bathrooms were absolutely DISGUSTING! This place had such a mixed bag of reviews that I was concerned about going. But it was right across the road from our beach house so it was worth testing. This place was AMAZING. The inside was a little loud, but the phrase 'Dive bar' is in its name so it's to be expected. The service was fast, the food and drink came out in a very timely manner and was very fresh. I had a cheeseburger and it was huge and delicious! I'd been craving one all day from all the activities and it surpassed expectations. The rest of my family got a fish plate with giant fresh flounder filet. I had a piece and it was on point!
