This place has really gone downhill. They used to have a nice full menu. Now they have a small tiny menu and take over an hour to bring you your food. Our server made us go on a treasure hunt just to find him. He took our appetizer order and then never returned. Our side plates were never taken away, our server never asked how the food was, and they never brought out all our food. Don't be deceived by their low prices. The portions match the prices... SMALL. The only thing that separates this from a one star review is that the food. The food was decent but definitely not worth coming back for. read more

Absolutely loved my stay at The Maidstone! Everything about the hotel is just so cute and quaint, with a great location and impeccable service. First off, the overall property is gorgeous. It's a beautiful building, with a ton of outdoor space including tables and lounge chairs, and even a hammock + swing in the backyard. The front has plenty of seats as well, and they offer free bikes to take out for guests staying on property. The indoor decor is fabulous - each room is different, from the bar room with a cute fireplace to the millennial pink restaurant, to the eclectic and kitschy lounge next to the bar. I absolutely loved the attention to detail with all of the decor - it all just felt so unique and well put together. They sell cute jewelry in the front as well, and the bar is stocked with alcoholic seltzers, wines and beers, and a collection of cocktails. The room isn't huge, but it is big enough with unique decor in every room. It has a nice bathroom, decent sized closet, plenty of outlets for charging, and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was included with our state, and it had a good assortment of pastries, bagels, yogurt, and more. The service was excellent from every single staff member I interacted with. I don't want to be mean, but the expectations were much greater than the actual stay. It looks really good online, but the rooms are not very nice, the shower is nearly scary and the walls of the rooms are so thin you can hear EVERYTHING on the other side. (I don't want to go into what we heard.) Also, the restaurant seats guests very close to the hotel rooms and the combination of conversations and music is intrusive. And be prepared because the weekend can mean tables enjoying dinner and cocktails well after 10pm. The guy that checked us in was very good and earned the second of these two stars in this review. What a disappointment. We came there for Thanksgiving dinner after not getting reservations elsewhere. My main complaint was the food but the staff there where also subpar. We were a bit early for the reservation but the Hostess kindly said who are you get your table right now. So she brings it to this small round table that could probably sit comfortably two people maybe three if they squeezed we were a party of five. I declined this table as it would be uncomfortable to eat Thanksgiving dinner onto tiny little table and the The hostess then said oh I got you this table because you where early. She didn't tell us had a nice table with enough room but it was a hallway on the way to the bathroom which by the way had no lock on it and very confusing. Every time someone of a walk to the bathroom the whole floor would vibrate while you were eating dinner. The main issue is they served us a soup which was very good followed by oyster which were the smallest tiniest thing I've ever had. Danny the main entrée it's up the turkey was tender and moist and good but the stuffing was basic stove top stuffing. The cranberries tasted like they're straight out of the can. They charge $16 for cocktails and it came in a very tiny wine glass. They were kind enough to send it back when he didn't taste very good. I ended up getting wine which was good at $16 a glass. Why the one star? Basically I felt very ripped off. The bill for my daughter a 5 year old was $46 for 2 very basic dishes and ice cream. The stove top stuffing was insulting. The food was typical of a high school cafeteria (except the turkey which was good). They have some nerve passing them selves off as a nice restraint charging supper high rates for this mediocre food! The staff overall was very disorganized and I can give examples but will pass. I knew how much the mean would cost going in and have no problem paying for it but I expect good food and service. Gorgeous estate turned eclectic, stylish chic restaurant lounge replete with white wooden rocking chairs, fox throws, plush seating, funky paintings, and a handsome navy and slate interior- Maidstone knows how to stage an impressive welcome. Despite our reservation, we had to wait up to an hour to be seated, because this place was popping. Not high-brow but a nice mid-brow appeal if you would, we were brought sparkling water and wine midway through the wait on the pretty porch where we made great, but hungry conversation and ample selfies. The guest of honor was even treated to few come-ons by a discerning, interested, bold lady of a certain profile. The night was looking up as we were finally ushered in. It took some time to seat our sizable party but we were brought these fantastically blossomy popovers that we'd schmear with butter and sea salt. We opted to share the namesake salad, Octopus, and french fries to start. Small, decadent and deliciously prepared. The quinoa-beet-baby kale signature salad, I wanted a tray of, just for myself. The octopus was tiny, but good and accompanied by watercress and a tart squash purée that was so rich and doused with evoo- yum! Perfect fries with a hint of old bay, because that is the actual perfect amount if you are going to use old bay, were in fact perfect. Didn't even need that old bay nor yummy aioli, they were piping hot and coated and fried to perfection. My medium rare burger on wheat challah, onion confit and trimmings was good. But it came with the same fries- score. His steak was the choicest item on the menu but should've gone with fish. It was ok. In fact the mash potato purée was a bit better than the steak. I had a piece of their generous, crispy half chicken- which was the best entree of the night. Juicy, flavorful, abundant- I didn't know chicken breast could be done so well, course I've order it never on menus. We had spent all afternoon on a decadent baked by Melissa- tiramisu layered cake waiting in the fridge so we opted out of dessert at Maidstone. But truthfully, we had already spent over 2 hours here and the birthday boy was itching to put on his dancing shoes. It's a gorgeous setting for 1-2 or for a large party. Service was a bit harried if you are not looking to be waited on impeccably because this place is busy- it's going to have a few hit and misses. From the moment we arrived at the Maidstone until we left, it was a magical experience. Kyle greeted us for a seamless check in. This was our first holiday as a couple and it was perfect. The location on Main St is convenient and short drives to Montauk, Sag Harbor and Southampton. We sat by the fire and were just in the moment. I didn't even care what the wifi password was. This is the best restaurant in the Hamptons, hands down. Brunch, lunch, and dinner are all amazing! Perhaps it was because our dinner took place in November and not prime Summer season, but our experience left something to be desired. That something was easy to identify once our meal was completed and we piled into our Uber, reflecting thoughtfully on our evening. "Mindfulness" was the consensus; from the sommelier who failed to remove missing wines from the published list, from the sweet but distracted servers who disappeared for the duration of the meal and neglected simple tasks like silverware replacement and water pouring, from the kitchen that ran out of menu items and sent out lackluster food (save for the squash gnocchi). I suppose allowances must be made because it is off-season, but this less-than-stellar performance demanded on-season pricing and we paid it. On a positive note, the decor is interesting and inviting in the several lounge areas so I would return for cocktails. read more

This is a review for the restaurant. Minus one star bc the service was not the best. Wait staff not very attentive or well trained. Heard wait staff scold another staff member for putting the wrong plate down. That was awkward. The food here was pretty good. Dishes most memorable are the seafood salad, pork chop entree and polenta. - The seafood salad was very fresh and the marinade was very well balanced. - The pork chop had a light mustard glaze with baby kale, what looked like pickled carrots, peas and snap peas. It was perfectly cooked to medium and had just the right amount of seasoning. Highly recommend this dish. - They used sweet corn in the polenta which made it tasty. Also, here are a list of dishes we'd likely not order again and why. - Maidstone salad. Very boring. Tasted like there was no dressing in it at all. If you're looking to not really eat but you need something to help curb the hungry, order this salad. - crab cake was not bad but not memorable. - seafood pasta had a little too much lemon in it. Hello I am eating here during my best friend's bachelorette party. The squad loves it. We got rosé and white wine and everyone's meal was great except mine. I got the lobster ravioli and I think they accidentally broke the salt shaker and over salted the sauce. It's wild. You'd think you took a gulp of salt water from the Atlantic Ocean. We came here to celebrate my birthday. My boyfriend picks the place and the room, everything is lovely from the warm welcome at the check in to the welcome drink by the fireplace. The room is not spacious but sweetly decorated, boutique feeling all around, simple but unique. The breakfast in the morning is good, not many options, but everything is top quality and the breakfast room is bright and quiet. At this point you'll wonder why the three stars... well we had an awful night, that's why! We went to bed quite early, around 10.30pm, and we weren't able to sleep till half past 1!!! Our neighbors, room 10 and 11, stayed up for three hours knocking on doors, slamming them, talking loudly in the hall way and calling each others out on the stairs! We tried a couple of times to ask them to be quiet but no way they'd listen. Unacceptable behavior from them and honestly also from the hotel: in a place like this I would expect a bit of monitoring here and there. On top of this the property is well maintained but it is old and it is definitely not soundproof! Imagine what a pleasant night... So all in all I was really happy to spend sometimes in this charming hotel but I don't think I'll be back, if there is one thing a hotel should guarantee is that you sleep safe and sound and unfortunately this is not the case! read more

THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY IF YOU ARE IN THE HAMPTONS - END OF STORY! OK - so need more info on this place? Here's the deal: I WORKED HERE for just a few days as their Night Auditor. The place is EXQUISITE! The rooms are ALL DIFFERENT and are ALL MAGNIFICENT!!! Some of the rooms are just that, rooms, and then they also have a few "suites" which are small apartments in the rear of the property (including guest houses) They are simply impeccable. Everything that everyone else here said in their reviews sounds totally accurate. The only reason why I chose not to work there was because I have experience as a Front Desk - Night Auditor, which they hired me for. The person training me took that out of control and wanted me making French Press coffee for guests, etc.. and Jared doesn't do French Press coffee for anyone, sorry, not my thing unless you're paying me much MUCH more... Also they wanted me to memorize the history and design of each room and the life story of the folks whom they named every room after... Um... NO... Anyway, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the hotel - and they have these cool retro Bicycles to lend out to guests so you can cruise EH in style! Rooms have phones and TV/Playstation/Flat-screen DVD's and Games are available in the Library located in the lobby NOT ALL ROOMS ARE PET FRIENDLY SO CHECK!!! But the common areas of the Hotel are and as a Dog person I would highly recommend! The (Scandinavian) Restaurant and Bar are great - Kitchen was clean too! Parking lot is provided so you are OFF STREET (Very Important during the season in EH) On Rte 27 VERY close to EH Jewish Center (Walking Distance) and downtown EH. read more

We probably would've have been so upset about our food taking so long but our drinks were empty the majority of the time too which annoyed us.....and they will try to charge you for every little mistake they make I.e. They brought us two drinks we didn't order but left them on our table, no one touched them and they tried to charge us. We stayed here recently for one night in the Hamptons, and really were let down by the stay. The place does have a unique retro charm to it, based on its Scandinavian theme throughout the property. With that being said, it was immediately clear to us on arriving that the inn was quite tired, especially when compared to other lodges in the area, including 1770 House and the Reform Club. We paid $1000 for a one night stay (Hamptons in the summer!) and therefore expected a very nice stay. The room lacked privacy, as it faced the highway. It was small and tired, and the sofa bed, which they charged extra to set up, was incredibly uncomfortable. Additionally, only a "continental" breakfast was included. The free bikes were one positive, as we took a ride into town. Overall, was not a luxury stay that we expected. The place was not run as one would expect with a luxury property, and the room was run-down. read more

My girlfriend, bulldog and myself just returned from a fabulous weekend break at c/o the Maidstone. We arrived late on friday night following a very slow drive from Manhattan. Tired and hungry we were welcomed like old friends, with a particularly warm welcome for the dog, by the amazing staff and told that a table in The Living Room restaurant would be waiting for us as soon as we wanted to eat. After being escorted to our room we enjoyed a superb meal, cared for by Casey, and Henri was on hand to recommend a perfect bottle of wine (he did this multiple times over the weekend). Off to a great start. Waking early on a sunny saturday morning we headed downstairs to enjoy a full continental breakfast (included in the rate), where the dog received her now regular dose of love (and even had a place at the table!). The rest of the stay continued like this and we could not have wished for a more relaxing, warm and enjoyable weekend. The staff were superb and the hotel felt like a home away from home. We can not wait to come back in the summer (a lot). It is a superb place to stay if you are looking to unwind and relax, especially if you are dog owners. Disclaimer: I lived in Scandinavia for several years and so the bar for Scandinavian-inspired quinine is quite high. Although my comments below are really focused on the qualities I think most couples are looking for in a night out: pleasant ambience, Service that is so good you don't realize it's there, and quality for the menu price. Really wanted to like this place more. My husband and I had reviewed the menu in great detail and settled on a night we thought would allow us to enjoy their early dinner prix fixe. However there must have been a discrepancy or seasonal change between their web site and the menu in the restaurant because we were unable to order the prix fixe. But that's not why I'm giving it three stars... The good: nice ambience and I like that ingredients are locally sourced. There's even a special menu for your dog, should you choose to bring him or her along! those with food allergies will also appreciate that he menu is clearly labeled for what is gluten free etc. More places should take Maidstone's lead in this regard. Could be better: felt like we were forgotten at times, and they didn't clear our plates before the main course... In fact they moved my husband's bread plate to my side of the table when I said we wanted to keep the bread basket. Expected larger size portion for what you're paying. I truly appreciate the local food movement and enjoy many restaurants who are embracing this philosophy but I do not understand why this place is more expensive and skimpier portions than in brooklyn's higher end neighborhoods. Cozy and unique! Very friendly and attentive staff. We were there during the off season (Feb) so very little traffic which was nice. Rooms have a contemporary flair (Swedish inspirations). A little on the smallish side but definitely had a homey feel to it. Very environmentally conscience hotel (no bottled waters, recycled paper etc). Hotel is opposite a cemetery so view is not one of the big reason to come here LOL. But still a great little hotel, full of color and warmth. read more

The Maidstone is an amazing place to stay. It was one the Maidstone Arms but it has now been taken under the arms of the Swedish hotel brand c/o Hotels. The best way to describe it is free-spirited Scandanavian design with a modern bohemian twist. All of the rooms are decorated uniquely and differently. Trust me, this isn't your mama's hotel. There is a restaurant also, "The Living Room" located in The Maidstone that serves up excellent Swedish delicacies (of course, mind your pocket book because it can be expensive). All around I give it two thumbs way up. Its an excellent international experience in the heart of East Hampton and its nice to break away from the norm. read more

This happens, fine, but after we were finally forced to sit outside instead of our indoor resie, the wait staff and manager made this the worst overall service experience I have ever come across. Ok, I was torn and the 4 should have taken it because of the pet friendly concept. Truly, the pet welcome is beyond compare ie. candlelight dinner in the restaurant in front of the fireplace with my pup (in the lovely designated portion of the lovely interior). So my criticism comes with that caveat. AND I GET that one must pay for this pet priviledge). The Scandinavian theme and funky unique artistic vibe were very cool. Also, THE LIVING ROOM restaurant on site was beyond excellent as far as cuisine goes. BUT, disappointingly, the significant cons: 1. Cold mannered reception desk, wait staff, very short on smiles...charisma. 2. Upcharge (who does that?) for housecleaning at the tune of $33/night ( on top of the nightly $25 petcharge) 3. Odors in the room. Creepy upholstery stains and a strong odor of "other odors being masked". Truly have never stayed in such a pricey accomodation that wreaked of cheap fabric softener (sheets and towels). 4. And lastly...the mattress/lack of mattress on the beds. It is not a mattress, more like a soft thick, very thick padded quilt. I overheard guests phoning with a request for a board underneath for their upcoming stay....odd stuff. I get that this may be very Scandinavian, but, as an American I would have preferred a headsup. Bottom line, I expected more for the price I paid and the pictures that I saw on the website. read more

I hate to do this, but after staying here again a year later, I have to downgrade my review to a 3 stars. This place just isn't that great. As my previous review indicates, I was initially very impressed with this place in 2015 and had nothing but positive hopes and expectations going on. But after several days here, I found myself making too many excuses/writing off too many errors just so I could cling onto my old positive vibes for this place, and finally realized that if it looks like a mediocre establishment, and acts like a mediocre establishment, it IS A MEDIOCRE ESTABLISHMENT. I'll just list the things that went wrong: - completely absent staff during the entire stay. We waited a good 10 or so minutes at the front desk to check in before anyone showed up. This was to be the norm. Out of the three or four times we visited the front desk (checking in/out, asking for toothpaste, etc), there was NO ONE THERE most of the time, and you had to flag down some poor bartender or waiter to look for the front desk staff. - disorganized and mentally lazy. Signed up for the yoga class. It was cancelled at the last minute. Asked why we weren't informed. Told that they had tried to call our room while we were grabbing breakfast IN THEIR OWN RESTAURANT. By the way, the person who claimed that she tried to call us? I SAW HER DURING BREAKFAST WHILE I WAS THERE, and considering that we were one of only two rooms that were booked during that time (weekday), it wouldn't have been hard to put two and two together and realize where her missing guest was. Another great way to avoid this problem? Put a sign up by the yoga class. Not hard people, just make that mental leap. - spare breakfast provisions. Do not order from here for delivery. They were on Door Dash this evening and we placed an order. It was scheduled to arrive 45 mins later, but never showed up. When we called the restaurant they said they didn't take any orders and would call us back. Instead of calling us back they took themselves off DoorDash and stopped answering their phones. My husband and I are both sick and unable to leave the house, we were relying on them for dinner. It's one thing to make a mistake and another thing to not even have the respect to call us back. DoorDash explained to us that they specifically have to take an action to confirm the order, meaning someone at the restaurant accepted our order and basically ghosted us. The bar was a perfect place to gather and have some appetizers and cocktails, with French bartender included. The hastens mattress was very comfy and I have always wanted to test the brand. The Maidstone in East Hampton is absolutely the most delightful place to spend a day, or evening. The grounds are magnificent; the location is awesome as your are right in the town of East Hampton where the beautiful people live, entertain, shop and dine. The maidstone is beautiful and staying there will have you smiling. The rooms range from elegant to "thats a hoot" with eclectic furnishings, and great views of the town and grounds. The help at the maidstone could be on a You Tube video showing the way to treat guests. The help is knowledgeable, charming and attractive. Aside from the fabulous rooms, the other major attraction is The Living Room restaurant where some of the best scandanavian food is served. This elegant restaurant is one of the Hampton's best. The diners combine elegant local with celebs and tourists. The mix makes for fabulous people watching. Loved all their seafood plates and their famous swedish meatballs. The hotel is overseen by Sophie a beautiful and charming lady whose warmth and gracious hospitality creates a positive happy energy for one and all. Adam the Dining Room manager is a terrific host and adds an elegance and knowledge to the restaurant. All in all The Maidstone is Awesome. Loved every minute of our stay and the fabulous dining. Highly recommended for romance, day cations, stay cations. Great for families and pets as well. read more

Fortunately I was able to book at $183 a night on Hotels Tonight and not the $595 that it said the room retailed for because although the room was clean, it was a little tired and the bathroom had mold all through the grout. It was a cozy room......but the continental breakfast from one day to the next was like night and day....one day it was decent with a variety of items, the next day they brought out a few muffins and mini bagels because we were the only ones staying there and the coffee was full of grains. I finally went out for coffee and breakfast. It was ok, but if I paid the retail price of $595 a night I really would have not been too happy! read more

My husband and I enjoyed a short little getaway at Maidstone through a daily deal site package and got a great deal considering rooms are usually $500-800 per night. First, Maidstone is very dog friendly, which is marvelous if you love dogs. We brought our minigoldendoodle Lucy and we were able to enjoy "restaurant" service with our dog. We enjoyed lunch, cocktails and breakfast as a family, which was really fun. The restaurant "Living Room" is Swedish themed (Swedish meatballs, ligonberry, etc. on the menu). The rooms are named and designed after Nordic people with varying degrees of fame, such as the Alvar Aalto room and Brigitte Nielson. We stayed in the Hans Christen Anderson room, which unfortunately faced Main street (and thus the town cemetary) and the Tove Jannson room across the hall also has this view. I love that the Inn is design forward, colorful and pet friendly. It faces a cemetary which is not a positive feature, but it is walking distance (equidistant) to the beach and town center. However, to be honest, if I were paying full price for everything, I would have higher expectations but overall, we had a lovely stay. read more

If there was an option for zero stars that would be my pick. Are all of these other reviews by the staff or friends and family? This hotel is a complete joke. Aside from the extremely tacky and old design, the service is completely non existent. The front desk is always left unattended and you cannot get any sort of service or help with your stay whatsoever without waiting for hours. The continental breakfast that is included is also laughable. Rolled up deli meat and stale croissants and nothing is kept refrigerated or on ice. The worst part is the hotel manager, Indira, who is possibly the least hospitable host that I could ever have imagined to run this hotel. She alone made our stay very unenjoyable. I was ready to leave after the first night but unfortunately we were committed for three whole miserable nights costing $800.00 each and there was no way out of it but to stay and try to have a decent time despite all of the miserable decor and experiences. On top of all of that, the hotel is very small and they decided to do construction or updates of some kind every morning starting at 6 or 7 am so we were kindly woken up by the very loud sound of a drill and electric saw every morning. I really wanted to love the Maidstone. It has a great location in East Hampton and interesting array of rooms, with a restaurant on site, but for the rest it has a lot to be desired! When we arrived (after the indicated 3pm check-in time), we were advised that our room wasn't ready, so despite being tired and wanting to relax, we headed back to town to pass an hour. Unfortunately, that was the least of our issues! The room we were assigned was nice, albeit small - but as the place is pet friendly, we ended up across the hall from a dog that just never stopped barking. A call to the front desk and we were advised that the staff was trying to locate the owners, but have been unable to. As we were trying to relax, the non-stop barking was everything but. This lasted till about 11pm when the owner finally returned. Found the staff lacking and not very helpful... read more
