We purchased our house in July and realized shortly after that we had some rot happening on our backdoor. We contacted numerous contractors who provided very high bid estimates and wouldn't be available for weeks. Robert came out to inspect the damage, explained his approach to solve the problem, and provided a reasonable proposal for his work. He was highly communicative and professional every step of the way. The work itself is clearly high quality. The area where the rot was has been completely replaced and touched up so that you can't tell there was ever an issue there in the first place. I contacted Robert West on July 17th via email about scheduling him to come give me a bid for hanging drywall, taping, and matching texture for my large remodel project. He replied aboutthree days later with a time he could come out and look at the project (July 30th). My girlfriend met with him on the 30th, she said he was nice and looked at our project. He told her would get a quote to us at the beginning of the next week (August 6th). I emailed him on August 9th to get an update. I'm writing this review on August 20 and I have not received a reply from him at all. Update 8/27/18: Thank you updating me Robert. I understand that you are a one man operation and might get an abundance of jobs. That does not excuse your ability to communicate promptly with all potential clients. If you are not able to reply in a reasonable time how am I (or anyone else) able to trust you to do work in my house. I hope that you figure out a way to organize your time better. read more

I've worked with Robert so many times I've lost count. Robert's work is impeccable, and he has always been responsive and professional on all levels. I deal with him for my house, and also nearly every week with my business, and am lucky to have found him. My husband even refers to him to "that guy who makes you happy". I've never had any of the administrative problems that are listed here, but I can say that having good admin skills doesn't necessarily dovetail with being an excellent tradesperson. That's the nature of the field--and why most construction companies have admin staff. However in my experience, Robert is good at both, but really good at his actual work. His judgement and construction knowledge are a treasure--he elegantly, and professionally solves small, but annoyingly complex repair problems that others can't or won't do. Also--and this is a big problem in this industry, he NEVER MAKES BS EXCUSES FOR HIS WORK. He doesn't need to, because it's always good. Additionally, if a professional's outgoing message asks you (twice) to leave an email address, and you don't, how can you leave a one star review? That's like going to Burgerville and being mad that they don't have table service. Just feeling a bit indignant based on knowing how great he is. read more

I've been looking for a good reliable handyman who would be able to help me with the projects around the house that I just don't have the time to tackle. I decided to give Robert a chance mainly due to the reviews here. He responded quickly to my request for information and was out looking at my project before I knew it. He thoroughly reviewed the project, even crawling down in my crawl space to check out the sub floor. I needed some rot repaired in my bathroom. His proposal arrived quickly and he was reasonably priced, not the cheapest, not the most expensive quote I got. I decided to give him the project. We agreed on a date and when the date arrived so did Robert. The job itself was done on time, on budget and the quality of Robert's work was top notch. I was impressed with his attention to detail. His proposal was very detailed, outlining everything he was going to do and repair. As the typical nervous, paranoid home owner, I sat there in my office checking off each item listed on the proposal to ensure I was getting what I paid for. Robert methodically went through every item he proposed and didn't miss a thing. He was neat and respectful of my time. He even found an issue with my dryer vent and fixed it at no cost. There is no doubt that I'll use Robert again, he's already quoted me on a couple of additional projects. My only fear is that all these good reviews will bring Robert more work than he can handle and he will become too busy. I would recommend Robert for all of your home projects. He was close by so he came out within 30 minutes. He looked at what I needed repaired and then asked me to text him my number and he would text me back an estimate. THE MAINTENANCE GUY IS NOW MY GO-TO GUY FOR HOUSE PROJECTS!!: He is honest, pleasant, and meticulous!! You should hire him too. I live in a townhouse and have limited storage space; I also had one of those 'skyboxes' that go on top of the car that was taking up a lot of room in my garage. Robert came over, took some measurements, listened to my requirements (shelving, cabinet, pulley system for skybox, etc...) and provided an estimate for each part of the work. I loved that; I could choose what was most important to me to do immediately and got a solid idea of the cost of all of it. Incidentally, that sky-box deal proved challenging and Robert experimented on how to best make that work for me. However, I ended up purchasing a pre-made storage system made by Thule (which I highly recommend). He didn't even charge me for all the time he spent trying to provide a solution, but instead simply charged me for his time to install the Thule system. Again, I think this was just so fair of him......others undoubtedly would've charged me for every minute they were on my property. read more

We really like Robert. He's done small things like install drawer handles, to larger electrical repairs and installation. I feel confident in the quality of work he does and his process is very clear, he comes out, does an assessment of what work you need, creates a bid for you and then you can schedule the work. Had an appointment with Robert for 3:00 Monday afternoon. I am usually off work by then so his availability that day would work. Had a crazy busy day at work and would have stayed on longer to help but had appt. scheduled from a week and a half out already. Did not want to cancel and wait for another week to two for a new appt. So I raced home to be on time for appt. Needless to say by 3:30 he had not arrived or called to say he would be late. I called him. Left a message. He called back promptly but acted as if his tardiness was no big deal. Said he would be there shortly. About 3:45 he shows up, spends well over a half hour measuring, writing notes and examining areas needing work. Said he would email my bid next Tuesday. Welp, it has been over 3 weeks since our appt. and, guess what? No bid or contact since. Why do contractors continuously waste our time and theirs coming out for bids and never getting back? He said, he'd email an estimate within the week... but nothing ever arrived. I wrote him twice about the estimate, but he didn't write back. I needed to have a couple of ceiling fans installed and had a couple other projects on my list and I was desperately looking for someone to come to the house that I could trust. I called 4 or 5 people that I found on line. Robert was the first to respond with a price and a couple of dates that would work for him all on the first email! We had a great experience with Robert. He was able to come work in our home on a holiday, which is amazing. He was polite and respectful. He removed his shoes before entering our home and cleaned up after his work. He was fast and did quality work. Robert replaced my attic fan this summer. I especially appreciate that he went the extra mile in communicating with me by email in a timely manner: When the weather was going to be too hot for working on the roof (over 100 degrees) he gave me advance notice and alternative appointment dates. I was really excited to have Robert come evaluate our roof for cleaning after reading the Yelp reviews, and even put off getting our house painted for that, but I won't be hiring him. First, I had to wait WEEKS to get an estimate appointment with him, no doubt because he's so busy due to great Yelp reviews. When the day finally arrived, he was here about an hour, I think, measuring the roof to do the estimate. I was surprised because I'd had another company out to do an estimate and they didn't measure the roof, but that was fine. This was on a Tuesday... he told me he does estimates on Mondays, so I wouldn't get mine for about a week. That Monday came and went and it wasn't until the following Tuesday after that (so TWO weeks later) that I received an estimate for moss removal in which he quoted a price THREE TIMES more (over $1000 for a 2800 sq. ft. house) than another estimate for using the same hand-brushing removal technique. I mean, yeah Robert has some great Yelp reviews, but three times as much?! Hmmmm... Also, a couple of days after he'd been walking on and measuring the roof, I found on the ground in our yard what I'd call a "flashing collar" that goes around a vent pipe on the roof. It wasn't broken, so I can't imagine how it could have fallen off on its own. Coincidence? I don't know, but now I need to hire a roofing guy to come out and fix it. I really wanted to like Robert, but given the wait time and high prices, I'll be going with someone else. read more
