Amazing place to watch sports or listen to some amazing live music while having some drinks with friends!

I should probably try this out a few more times before reviewing, but I don't know when I'll be back in Kingston, so here's a placeholder. It's located at the top of Princess Street and just about the last boozer before you hit the residential district. Large and airy, it's pretty much a classic English style Canadian pub. Wide and good beer selection, a variety of seating, big telly for the sports, plenty of attractive and attentive staff and a big pub food menu. We were just out for a midday walk around town when it started raining, so we took shelter here and had an excellent hour drinking good beer and chatting with our delightful waitress. Apparently this a great spot for Military College types and students from Queen's to get to know each other, but even four decades too late for that meta, I would make this my local at the top end of town. read more

This one is another of my 'four-with-a-warning' reviews. This place, unlike a lot of my previous childhood haunts has not changed since I was there years ago. In fact the only thing that I can see that's different about the place is the number of UFC event posters and more graffiti in the Gents. This was a place you used to go to either to start the evening or close it off and it hasn't changed. It's a drinking place, through and through. The pool table still does good business as does the deer hunter video game. The pint list is basic and posted on the wall. Depending upon what you're looking for, this place will be a two-rating if you're looking for what can poorly be described as "classier", but if you're looking for a place leaning more towards the "seedier" and are looking for pint-and-wing specials (that's Tuesday, by the way), this is probably your place. It is unapologetically basic, covers the bases, and I'm all about that. read more

Great place to get a pitcher (or two) and set up shop for an evening of chatting and debating with friends. Usually decently priced and they have some great drunk munch options as well. Tends to get commandeered by whatever sporting event is occurring at any given night and I've heard that it can get a little seedy on some nights. But overall a great vibe, always have music or a live act playing on a small stage which provides excellent entertainment. The Brass also has another side: Brunch. Excellent homefries and well priced brunch fare make this a great choice for a Saturday or Sunday after a big night. The Brass is a great place to come with a big group of friends and share some beer. They have a selection of bar games (Buck Hunter, foosball). The location of the bar is quite inconvenient as you must stand directly in the way of those trying to enter the building. I sampled some of their maple bacon wings and was very put off by the flavour however some of the other flavours I have tried have been quite good. I give it a generous rating because I have always enjoyed the service and company I'm with when I visit. read more

We stopped for dinner and were directed to find our own table. The restaurant had only one really large table of guests that has already finished dinner. We waited for the waitress or waiter but three of them stood behind the counter talking to each other and ignoring us. Multiple attempts to get their attention were ignored with them actually looking away and continuing to talk. After waiting 5-10 min with no interaction, we left. As we walked out, one of the waitress was finally gathering a menu to come our way. I really hope they treat other customers with more respect. read more

After a busy week of midterms and papers I wanted to relax and grab a drink! However, because my friends were still in the middle of their midterms they decided not to go out with me. Honestly in my opinion, the Brass used to be one of the best pubs in Kingston. Their wing special on Tuesdays and Thursdays are really amazing (I can't lie lol). I remember there used to be one really really nice waitress, yes USED TO BE. But you know what, last night, was the worst night I've ever spent perhaps during my entire stay in Kingston, because I wasn't too impressed about what I got at the Brass. First of all, there was only one waitress and she yelled at my friend. My friend asked for a drinking glass and it took her FOREVER to bring that. Literally, forever (which is saying perhaps like more than 45 minutes). My friend was just complaining for a bit and she yelled something, I was rather shocked. She freaked out when it got very busy, and she kinda screamed "it is really BUSY!!" with a very harsh tone. But I sympathize her because it was very busy and there were just too much going on, and MONTREAL wasn't doing well!! Second, it took probably like 2 h for the additional wings that my friend ordered to come, and when the wings were served, they weren't even hungry any more, and the food was all wasted. Although I have to admit I love the wings from the brass..too bad, it took too long. Third, but most importantly, the manager would not switch the channel to the basketball game (which perhaps accounts for the need of like 30% of the people in the bar) just because he hoarded the TV to watch the baseball game. Like honestly who watches baseball during the regular season we are Canadians not Americans, and it's the playoff season for bball!!!!!!My friend was totally upset, he came to the Brass for the game, but what did you do, you disappointed him. I spent 30 minutes consoling him, at the end it was just draining. It made it so much worse when the habs lost, it broke my heart, at the end. I don't like you any more!!!! Terrible establishment. Waitress overcharged the table and told us her debit/credit machine was down and we all had to pay an extra $3 to take out cash. While it's a minor inconvenience, it makes a difference when your drink was $4. Also, atmosphere was dirty and dingy, bathrooms were unsanitary even by student standards. Had the worst nachos that I have ever had in my life here the other night. They were burnt and it seemed like they just put a spoon full of cheese and veggies on a pound of tortilla chips.. The waitress also took FOREVER to get out bills. read more

Half price nacho platter Monday is always a good idea. Times I've gone in the evening, the service was tight and nachos were decent. This time I went Monday afternoon to satiate a lust for heaps of cheese but my experience wasn't A1 as it typically is. I think we were the only table in the restaurant but it took ages to get the waitress' attention. Do I smell? Am I ugly? Does she sense my self-loathing that made her avert her attentions from me? Anyway, we got nacho platters with additional pulled pork, and man it was so subpar. Nachos are something you really can't mess up and people order them at restaurants cause they're too damn lazy to throw it together at home. The chips were overcooked/burnt, the clods of pulled pork weren't saucin like post Malone would sauce them, and all in all just meh. Will probably come back during the evening hours when it seems like the staff gives more of a shit about you and a cheeky pint is more socially acceptable than at 12pm read more

I wish I could give this experience less than one star but it wouldn't let me. I went for Breakfast on a Saturday with my girlfriend and it was the worst service I have EVER had. We waited at least an hour for food and other tables around us were all getting their food first, despite that fact that we had come in before they had. We had to ask multiple servers (multiple times) for mayo and it took ten minutes JUST to get mayo. Our server said that our manager would give us 25% off, but then retracted and instead gave us a free breakfast card. We asked to speak to the manager to discuss our experience, and she ("Sydney") was extremely rude. I have never spoken to a manager who was that unprofessional. She told us there was no one above her that we could speak to, and she said they don't "give out contact info" of the owners.... which seams suspicious. She apologized sarcastically at the end, and I responded "You don't seam very sorry 'Sydney'" The management needs more training on customer service. We will NEVER be going back. (Also, we are a queer interracial couple so potentially NOT A GAY FRIENDLY place PSA) read more

*warning* this pub is a complete and utter dive, the waitresses are all morons and the bathroom is sometimes missing a door or its mirror. However... It is my second favorite bar in Kingston. I spent four years drinking at the brass with my friends and have many fond memories of it - there are photos of me celebrating on top of a table here after Crosby's golden goal at the Winter Olympics. This place is a dive but you will be surrounded by hot, fun, and friendly people who feel the exact same way as you. Go there after ten and stay until the lights come on at two thirty and you will have a blast. I'm generally a pretty understanding person when it comes to busy nights or slow service, having worked as a waitress myself for many years, but I was extremely disappointed with my experience at The Brass. A group of friends and I were there on a Tuesday night for 1/2 price wings. We got there at 7pm, but were not even GREETED until 7:30pm, and that was AFTER we asked a waitress if she could help us, and after we went up to the bar asking for service. Half of our orders came after two hours. Nobody came by to ask how we were doing for 45 minutes. We wanted to order a second round of beers but no one helped us, and when we did order them, they took over half an hour to bring them to us (we ordered tallboys, so all they had to do was bring us cans). The restaurant was not even that busy when we got there, about 5 tables full, and two waitresses. The waitress tried to placate the situation by offering us 25% off our food, which I thought was a good customer service gesture, but when she came back with the bills, the 25% was only applied to ONE food item, so I saved a total of $1.25 on my bill. At that point, I had had enough, so I didn't even bother asking for more of a discount. There was no communication between the restaurant and us, and I would never go back again. read more

My boyfriend and I went to this pub for dinner on our visit to Kingston. I had the Veggie Burger and fries - and let me tell you, it was one of the best burgers I have had!! My boyfriend had the chicken fingers and also was raving about how delicious they were. The place wasn't too busy around 5:30pm on Friday when we went, however, it was starting to get a little busy by the time we were leaving.
