It's a huge packed area with few trees, borders hard to discern and tightly packed. I would recommend getting a spot on one the little dead ends with trees and not 1,000 people. The area the park has on the lake is not very appealing tbh. The nature center was a good diversion and they also had movie night and mid day crafts available at the pavilion. I'd give those a 5*.

My family and I have camped at Cowan Lake State Park twice now and will definitely be back for more…read moreoutdoor adventures. The campsites are a good size and are all in the woods, which we prefer. The bathrooms are super simple, but the women's restrooms are impressively clean. My husband did say that the men's restrooms were pretty much unusable though. I have not used the showers, so I can't speak to those. The price is good and I am happy to support a state park. We also haven't gone down to the lake or used any of the other park amenities yet, but look forward to trying them out. Each campsite has a firing and a picnic table and a paved driveway, perfect for our truck top tent. My only complaint so far is that the last time we stayed, there was a dog who truly barked without ceasing the entire time, with the exception of quiet hours because it was taken inside to sleep. I understand the dogs are allowed in the campground and that they bark, but we weren't able to relax, and the campground wasn't peaceful because the barking was that bad. I do wish there was some sort of policy for this. However, this won't deter us from coming back because I do believe it was a coincidence.

I'm 30 now that's how long I've been coming here) 3.) several playgrounds for the kids all within the last few years new 4.) volleyball, tennis courts, and basketball 5.) a great golf course. It's only a par 3 but it is beautiful and very well maintained 6.) plenty of shelters for picnics and for a small fee you can reserve them. The poor experience began at the admission gate with a most rude man who refused to answer questions about the status of the games. After waiting an hour from lightning delays I decided to return to my car to wait the delay out. When I asked for the re-entry band they accused me of sneaking in. They yelled and carried on as they insisted I wasn't being forthright. I am still upset!​​

The water is murky, like you would expect, and the sand is really rough and gritty, again like you would expect for a lake, but it's not slimy. The bathrooms are brand new. There is a ton of green space and plenty of room to spread out from other families. There are picnic shelters and grills. Huge parking lot! Even on the busiest summer holidays, I have never struggled to find parking. There is a really nice fenced in dog area, as well as as a dog section of the beach. If it was closer, we would probably be there a lot this summer as it's a great way to cool down.

Properly concerned about the age of my children and their ability to paddle a canoe. Joey paddles a kayak by herself during summer camp though, so I explained we were good. The office is downriver. A van shuttles you and your canoe/kayak to a point upriver and helps you get started. Then you paddle (or not, when the river is flowing good, like it was for us) downstream to the office. Fun for the whole family.

In addition, they refunded the cost of my canoe. I appreciate the customer service! * This will be the last time I give any money to this business. After being a faithful customer for at least 10 years (probably much longer as we never went to the other business on the river) this visit was not worth the money I paid. We were given a broken paddle, that we did not realize was broken until the drop off location. Per their documentation they will charge you for a broken or missing paddle, so we opted to just take one and gave the other back to the driver as they didn't have an extra to give us. It wasn't so bad until very close to the exit and we did flip, loosing shoes and many other things. Flipping is a known hazard with one or two paddles, but my complaint is the customer service. In the past, there have always been staff ready to pull you in as you approach the exit. Not this time! This time, my son was waiting to pull us in as the staff meandered their way down the hill. One blonde gentlemen was reading something off his phone and literally never put it down until I said "can you put down the phone and help pull us in!" He was rude and told me to go back and get my one paddle out off the canoe (with his phone still in hand and me carrying bags and without shoes because they washed down the river). One very helpful staff member said he would grab it for me and he did. When I returned to get my deposit back, they didn't offer any type of compensation for the ONE paddle and really didn't seem to care about their staff and the poor service (again, one out of 3 or 4 staff was very helpful and extremely polite).

In the "little kid" playground area there are smaller stairs to climb and things to balance on. There are tunnels, a little picnic table at the bottom, and some steering wheels to spin. In the "big kid" playground the climbing is taller and definitely more advanced. The 3 year old had trouble reaching some things, but nonetheless tried! There are two awesome and obscure shaped monkey bars, many spinning seats, and large slides! They also have a great area with various giant musical instruments to play. On the far side of the playground there is a splash pad. It was still on and running today! This park is wide open and had so much space for the kids to run and play. There are many picnic tables with shade and a large shelter too! We LOVED this park!!

I'm an adult and I wanted to play! Kids of all ages, outside, playing, laughing! There is a nice covered picnic area with water fountains (including a tall one to fill up a bottle), and a paved, covered path to the restrooms. There is a Men's, women's, and family restroom. There is a lot of shaded areas for parents to sit and relax while the littles wear themselves out.

It's winter so no one else was there at first ... I gather it's popular for fishing in warmer weather. No one was at the booth to collect any fee this time of year. No hawk, eagle or ducks but a ton of vultures .. around 50. They were eating something ..i walked around the lake to see .. it appears they were eating their own ... just bones and feathers left. There is a boat dock and a river. Saw a kingfisher at the river. I'd spotted several but this was the first time got a pic .. they usually are too quick to fly away.

As my journey continues to the places to have a nice carry out date night we come to this little…read morelake. You can reach this right off 275. It is really not a big place but nice quiet place. They do (not now of course) have boat rentals. There are really 2 places to park. One is right when you pass the small range/collect station you go a bit and look to your right. There is a kinda not noticeable entrance to a small parking/fishing area. Then if you drive a bit more around there is a much bigger parking area. There is also the rental building there. It has some nice places to lay down,walk, and just chill out. So do go and relax and enjoy.

I had been to this park a couple of times last spring but it was so wet that I didn't venture far…read moredown the path. The park entrance is right next to US-35, and appears to be a favorite spot for fishing and putting a boat on the river. After crashing the small footbridge, you can either turn right and follow the trail closer to the road or continue straight to the river bank. Here the trail also turns right and runs along the river bank. Either way you go, it's a big loop. If you want though, you can continue along the river back past the loop to intersect with the Creekside Rails to Trails. Overall this pathway runs through the flood plain and near a swampy area. Not much to look at during the fall but a nice short hike for something different. Only problem from my perspective is the road noise. Go check it out for yourself.
