We have been customers once a month for almost 10 yrs. The store is fantastic! Best deli meat & cheese quality & lower prices They have bulk food of all kinds, even gourmet popcorn! Their baked goods & breads are outstanding. The one thing I won't recommend is their raisin bread. Sadly, the Market Wagon permanently lost my business today by refusing to enforce the state mask requirement. A couple was in the store and had obviously ignored the sign on the entrance door stating that masks are required. I asked him (the manager, I think) to please reinforce the regulation, and he was not willing. So, everyone is put at risk because of two incredibly inconsiderate customers. I suspect that they were tourists. Is it worth it to lose the long time business of a local? Word of mouth gets around. read more

It makes me very sad to hv to leave such a negative review. I shopped at Market Wagon last Friday. I bought several meats & cheeses from the deli. Two days later, the 'home style' roast beef was spoiled & sour. I actually owned a deli in Manchester Discount Beverage before my health required that I close it. I called ahead to let them know that I was coming in to show them the spoiled beef & that I wasn't looking for a refund, just a store credit. The only man I've ever seen there answered my call & said that I must not hv stores it properly bc their refrigeration is excellent. I said that all the other deli items were just fine. I arrived at the store to be treated like I was trying to put one over on them. How would that be? I returned the beef in its original bag. He made a point of hanging around the register as I checked out. The girl at the register was extremely unpleasant to me, including seeing a cast on my right arm but didn't so much as push my items toward me so I could bag them. This forced me to reach all the way across the counter to get my items with a cast. No one ever once said, "We're so sorry that happened. And thanks for your continued patronage." Nothing but glares from the entire staff. Now don't get me wrong, I don't know what religious group they are but they never show any kind of joy, happiness, kindness or even manners as they grunt their answers to your questions. No smiles. No 'how are you today.?' No ' thank you so much.' Nothing but angry, inconvenienced looks all the time I've shopped there. But they were even colder & less friendly than they always are. Upon arriving back home in Manchester, I also noticed that they did not comply on any of their packages with a proper 'packed date ' & absolutely NO 'Sell by' date. On ANYTHING. Unfortunately, I will no longer be shopping at the Market Wagon in Shaftsbury, VT. This experience made it too ridiculous for me to continue to spend $ there. read more

This market is a must stop shop! The whole place has a great vibe. It is always clean and inviting! There is nothing else like this for miles and miles! Anyone who would give this place less than a five star must be crazy or high or both! The owners, as well as, the people that work here are excellent at there jobs. They always go above and beyond! The employees are educated, polite, clean and are hard workers. They always greet you when you enter and the entire time you shop they are asking if they can assist you. I've even left empty handed because they did not have the "type" of popcorn that we prefer ( 6 other types available ) & they said "sorry that we did not have what you were looking for". If only more establishments would follow this business model. I just wish they were open 7 days a week. But hard workers deserve to have their time off also! Clean and bright small shop for getting cooking and baking supplies. Bulk commodities (flours, pastas, spices, nuts, chocolates, etc.) are packaged in conveniently sized clear plastic containers. There's a small but outstanding selection of fresh dairy - for example, cheese and butter - and freshly baked breads. There was a small selection of fresh fruit, as if it had just been delivered from the farm. By far the greatest activity was in the front of the shop where sandwiches and salads are efficiently and predictably prepared. Nice system of writing out your own order, choosing from lists your ingredients. Ingredients are fresh. Two picnic tables are outside and in full sun, so not comfortable for sunny summer outdoor eating . All customers were getting their lunches to go. read more

I love The Market Wagon! It's my favorite place to stock up on quality snacks and sweets. They sell a wide variety of items including candies, nuts, cookies, breads, cheeses, meats, jams, ice creams, flours and more! It's a sweet, little shop located just by the road. I believe it's run by the Amish and most of their stuff is homemade. It's really delicious food and very reasonably priced. I've only ever seen locals come here. It's definitely a Bennington secret, but more people should go. I always recommend it to my friends. I've never tried any of their sandwiches, but I'm dying to. The sandwiches are very cheap and look big and filling. This is hands down one of my favorite places in Bennington! read more

We're spending the summer in Vermont and stopped by The Market Wagon yesterday to check it out. I left with two bags filled with goodies, including fresh corn on the cob (half price because it was a "few days old"...wonder how old grocery store corn is??), some steel cut oatmeal, a box of beautiful dried apricots, and one of the many lovely spiritual greeting cards sold on a rack. There are also dozens of air-dried spices, homemade pies and cookies, and a deli counter that makes sandwiches to order. Too many wonderful offerings to describe! The store is run by Amish folk from the community, and a recording of their church music was playing for shoppers to enjoy. Loved this place and I'll be back! read more

I tried these milk chocolate & sea salt over almonds treat. I bought 2 and ate one when I got home. Oh my!! The must decadent chocolate I have ever tasted.
