I really enjoyed eating here. It was well into brunch hours (on a Thursday) when we dropped in, but we were received and seated promptly. I ordered the carnitas griddle, which was great, but it was more of a sweet than savory flavored meet. It wasn't bad, just different. Served over cubed and baked potatoes along with pickled onion, and under a fried egg, this griddle was pretty good. I ordered Noah something a little less ambitious, a commuter breakfast sandwich. I went with the English muffin instead of the croissant. Supper fluffy egg, cheese and bacon sandwich...simple but delicious. Did I mention the fluffiness factor of the egg(s)? The coffee was great. It's a go to place when I visit my client in Chicago. I haven't been there for dinner, but for lunch it's outstanding. I always order either Cesar salad with salmon or Greek salad with grilled salmon - I love how it's prepared. Found within the urban, towering skyline of downtown Chicago, The Marq is a pub-like, open and airy restaurant that offers dishes from a large spectrum of cultures. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. For starters, I had ordered the whipped ricotta, and I could honestly eat that as a meal. The sweet, soft whipped ricotta paired deliciously with fresh fruit, crisp, fluffy bread and walnuts. Following that, I had ordered the pork carnitas tacos as an entrée. The tacos were interesting--the tortilla seemed to be crispy on the outside with another layer on the inside. The meat was decent, a bit dry, but it was HOT. The tacos were served with fresh lime and beans, which served as a moisturizer for the meat in my case, and it was pretty messy. The tacos were good, but I would definitely choose something else should I return. The service was pleasant, our food was delivered quickly with no complications. All things considered, I would absolutely return here if I got a chance, but I do think I wouldn't order the same thing. BRUSSEL SPROUTS | OPEN | CHICKEN SANDWICH Brussel Sprouts: Monica and I had their Brussel sprouts without bacon. They were delicious. They were tender, and a slight crisp, which makes us think they were flash fried. Overall they are in the top 4 Brussel sprouts we have ever had. OPEN: the Resturant has an open concept where they try to separate into three distinct vibes. The first section is medium to large tables 4-8 people. In the middle is the bar which is the focal point of the restaurant. The bar has seats all around it which give it a communal vibe and there are 4 TVs off to The side of the bar. Lastly, there is the back end which is more intimate with tables of 2-6. Although it's open, the noise doesn't travel to far. Chicken Sandwich: their chicken sandwich is Very impressive. First the chicken hangs over the bun on all sides. You will definitely be full after this meal. The chicken has a good amount of seasoning but the most impressive thing for me was the light crisp of the sandwich. Normally, places fry their chicken too much, but the chef here has it just right. The Marq is a good place for a large group. The food was good and the prices reasonable for Chicago. I got the adobo chicken and it was good but not as good as the steak my wife ordered. I loved my misfit IPA beer but the drink my wife got had jalapeño in it and it was so hot we could not drink it. The food were good and the atmosphere was casual. I probably would not get the goddess salad again as it did not have much flavor. Overall though we liked the Marq and were talking about our meals afterward. I've been to The Marq twice, about a year apart. My first experience was really good despite some major hiccups. One member of my party's food came out way wrong, with things added and removed from his burger that were not what he asked for at all. Right after he sent his meal back, someone else in the party found a hair in her salad and we had to shamefully send that back as well. However, despite this, the staff was AMAZING about it and got the new entrees out so quickly and then sent the manager over to work out a solution, which I believe was a discount on the bill. We all left thinking that the food was good and the service was so great that even with the mistakes this is a four-star establishment. I came back here earlier this week without even realizing that this was the same place. I was here to eat before seeing a show at the CIBC theatre and we left a note in our reservation that we only had about an hour to eat. Then, because the CTA cannot be trusted, I ended up arriving 15 minutes late and was super anxious about making the show. But the waitress was EXCELLENT and brought out drinks and appetizers literally within minutes of ordering. We had the fried pickles and they are really really delicious - highly recommend. Our entrees came out right away as well and we were done with the meal in about 35 minutes. I had the corn elotes risotto which was so unique and creamy. Overall, I think the food here is good and pretty comparable to other Loop restaurants in the price range, but the service is what has made this a great experience on both occasions. read more

My friend's fried chicken sandwich looked so delicious that I almost said "Boy, Bye" to the Pescatarian lifestyle. But I stayed strong. If I ever backslide, it'll be because of how delicious that sandwich looked. Be warned-I'm told it had a little kick. The staff was friendly and attentive. I settled on The Marq burger, you can't go wrong with a dish literally named after the restaurant, they wouldn't name the worst dish after themself. The fact that any place allows you to swap out fries for mac-n-cheese is a place after my heart. The food couldn't come soon enough because when this burger came I almost started to shed a tear, I could've easily resembled the Michael Jordan crying meme. It was beautifully plated. Since I was at lunch with a group I was able to witness the different customizations that you can add to The Marq burger. We thought that it was just coming out shortly. But after 5 minutes and since our waitress didn't even mention the sandwich, we went into the restaurant to find her and inquire. I would not recommend this restaurant. We ordered mac and cheese with bacon, The Intern, and the Carnitas Tacos. The fries were good and the beans that came with the tacos were good. Other than that, everything was so bland, including the bacon on the mac and cheese. Best part of the carnitas were the tortillas. The sandwich was not delicious. The meat of both carnitas and sandwich were mushy. The mac and cheese was pretty dry and despite the blend of cheeses, it doesn't taste much like cheese. If you do go to the restaurant, just order the fries with those beans on them and that's it. Restaurant is extremely loud and the service is inattentive. read more

We stepped into The Marq as a last second breakfast option. We were sat immediately and there was no one in the restaurant. We ordered the breakfast sandwich and Shakshuka. The breakfast sandwich was okay. The egg was cooked well, but the sausage patty was slightly overcooked and had too much spice. The Shakshuka was super unique and quite good. I would recommend that for people who like to try unique breakfast items. The Shakshuka is quite filling though! Overall I would give the food 4 stars. However, the wait was too long. We were the only people in the restaurant and it took over 30 minutes to get our food. I would come back here again because I would hope the wait was a 1 time thing. A perfectly solid Loop sit-down restaurant for a work lunch or dinner, complete with pretty elite fries. I came in with my work team on a Tuesday around noon and found The Marq surprisingly crowded, but they were able to quickly get us seated without a problem. It took us a while to get the menus sorted out (a problem that could have been solved if my group just googled "The Marq menu," but alas. Once we ordered, the food probably took about 25 minutes to arrive. They were very busy--probably busier than expected, but when most of the diners are there during work, speed is pretty critical, so that wasn't ideal. When the food arrived, one member of my party had to leave so asked for a box. 5 minutes later it hadn't come, so she had to leave. But the food itself was very good. I got the burger with a fried egg and a side of fries (a perfectly standard work lunch, as far as I'm concerned). The buns were two top buns, which was a little weird, but I thought worked well. The patties were pretty large and flavorful, and the egg added a nice touch. The fries are battered, and as such, are nicely crispy, and were the star of the meal. The speed of service was not ideal, but I think that can be forgiven as the Loop ramps back up to work, so I'd recommend overall. read more

It is unfortunate that I need to write this review, but I think it's important that others avoid a very unpleasant experience if planning a team event at this establishment. We arranged to have a happy hour at the Marq for a new program we were launching. It was a great event, we had food, drinks and excellent service by a server named Jenna. The problem came at the end. We paid our bill and continued to hang out, finishing our drinks and ordering additional drinks from the bar. We had an area stanchioned off designated for our party. At least 30 minutes later we were alerted that our original bill was incorrect and drinks were being charged individually opposed to one agreed upon rate for the allotted hours. Totally fine, but a member of a group made mention, what if we had left? Would they have just charged the difference, credited and then charged? Is it because we were still there that circumstances changed? Enter Arturo. I believe he's a manager, but instead of talking through the contract and a mistake made on their part, he proceeded to say that we outstayed our welcome. Mind you, no one asked us to leave our designated area at the restaurant and the place was not full. He said that we were being charged this new amount for continuing to be in that space, he also made mention that our group was extremely loud and guests were complaining. There was laughter for sure, but no one was screaming or causing a ruckus. Also, if we were disturbing other guests why were we just now hearing about it? Having worked in the restaurant business, I was appalled at how Arturo handled guests. We asked to speak to another manger and we were told that she was unavailable. We ended up paying the new total and left, but we also left with a bad taste in our mouths. Hopefully management reviews this and works hard to not have anyone else have this experience. read more

Was hoping for more, but as it is, this is the kind of place you can safely send your family to grab a meal if they are staying in a hotel nearby. It's not great, but it's not bad, and there's enough general options (burgers, straightforward entrees, a basic list of desserts) to appease almost any kind of diner. The beer and wine list is also just fine, and there's a small patio out front which is clutch right now because many people want to avoid indoor spaces thanks to the 'rona. I tried the shrimp po'boy...news flash, this wasn't as good as any such sandwich from N'awlins. But the fries were fine, and I had a couple of cocktails that at least laid the booze on real heavy-like. I came here with co-workers after a work event. It's a cool, low key space. Perfect for grabbing drinks after work which is what we did. We also decided to order food along with our drinks. It was a rough day so I ordered the marq and a dirty gin martini. And man oh man was my burger awesome! Seriously! It's been a couple weeks later and I am still thinking about! Get it dressed with all the works. So delicious! And my martini was wonderfully made. My friends also enjoyed their dinner and drinks as well! The service was ok. Could have improved a bit here. The food was absolutely amazing! I had the Marq Falafel and my boyfriend had the Marq burger. Both were exceptional. We finished with the flan that was also amazing. It was built more like a cheesecake than a traditional flan, but still delicious. The service was great as well, our only problem was with how dark it was. We were sat in the back with only a candle at our table, away from any of their over head lighting. It was kinda awkward, very close to eating in the dark. I would still 10/10 go back! read more

Now this was a special night for us as we were looking for a good dinner on one of our last evenings in Chicago. We made reservations and were so happy we did as they gave us a nice table that was just perfect and we didn't have to wait. Awesome. We had the Vegan BBQ Sandwhich and it was fantastic. We also saved room for dessert which was totally worth it. If you come here don't pass up the dessert as they are so delicious. Yum. I am so glad we took the time to come here. Our server was amazing. She was attentive but not hovering, made excellent suggestions and was very busy but never made us feel ruched or neglected. Every server should take a page from her book.
