This is our favorite place for a delicious homemade style Mexican breakfast. It's a tiny place, only seats about 16, so expect to wait a bit. It's worth the wait! The Martinez omelet is really good. Four of us stopped in for a quick late breakfast and found exactly what we were looking for at the Martinez Cafe. True to the reviews that claim the girl who runs the dining area is quick to dismiss dinners soon after they finish their plates, we encountered two smiling ladies sitting out front who told us "they kicked us out!" Apparently they had over stayed their welcome. Once inside, we were seated immediately, all four of us at a table for two. Our waitress quickly scrambled the extra seats, passed out menus and took our drink orders before we could sit. Looking around, I noticed the official capacity posted as 16. All seats were filled. It was soon apparent that our waitress was responsible for everyone and everything in the dinning area We all decided on different variations of breakfast plates smothered in green chiles. Our orders appeared just a few minutes later, all correct and all hot 'n tasty. The green chiles are absolutely fantastic! After we finished, it was no problem getting separate checks. What a gem. What an absolute hidden wonder. The Martinez Cafe is tucked away from the rest on a little side street in Pueblo. Don't even think about standing in the doorway to wait for your table, there are chairs near the restroom. You will most likely wait, because this place is fantastic. It's worth it. You're surrounded by colorful artwork, and the heavenly smells of Mexican cuisine. No two chairs match, but that's part of the character. Maybe their breakfast is better than their lunch? I was totally unimpressed by the food, although the decor & atmosphere are really cool. my husband drove by here on a Sunday, & the place was packed. We decided to try it, and all I can say is Meh. The red cheese enchilada was so overcooked, I could barely get a knife through it. The red sauce was ok, although it tasted like it was made with chile powder instead of chile pods. The chicken taco was bland, & the guacamole on the tostada tasted like the pre made stuff you get at the grocery store. I'll go back to try the breakfast to see if it's any better because I don't see myself eating lunch there again. read more

If I could rate it a negative I would. One of the worst places on Pueblo to eat. The wait staff is rude and very inattentive. It took15 minutes to have someone take our order. We got our drinks then waited, waited and waited for our order to be taken. Instead of taking our order directly to the kitchen to start cooking/serving, the wait person sat down and visited with another table. As she sat with them, she was cursing and paying no attention to anyone else. After waiting 10 minutes we advised wait person to cancel order. Martinez used to be located on Santa Fe in central Pueblo, but then they moved to this tiny, obscure location on the west side of town. I went to the old location many times and really enjoyed the food, and I've eaten at the new location a couple of times. Today I happened to be in Pueblo and took the trouble to drive across town to Martinez and arrived about 1:15 PM. They are supposed to be open until 2 PM, but there was no one there. A sign in the window said "closed Wednesday and Thursday", but this was a Friday. Makes me wonder when, exactly, they actually ARE open? I hate it when people who run a business just close up any old time they feel like it and inconvenience their customers who drive several miles only to find the place closed. I won't bother going out of my way to eat at Martinez Cafe again. Since I struck out at Martinez, I checked my GPS for other Mexican restaurants and ended up eating at Herrera's Family Restaurant nearby. The food was great and so was the service. read more

So i Had to check this place out..hands down fun small and classy place..one server busting her butt. Granny inbthe kitchen cooking and shes fast. I had the marteniz omelette and my two lik guys had the mexican style one egg and. It filled us all up. Green chile just the right amount of heat. I married a guy from pueblo, 26 years ago. The clause was that we always eat here when we're in pueblo. My kids have been coming here since they were babies, they are now 22 and 20. Yes, they can be rude but I appreciate the no cell phone! This review is for today, this has been the best take out food we've had since COVID!! I absolutely love this restaurant! The food is really good but the staff is so rude and they show they dont care about their customers all they want is their money and you to get out. Parties of 4 or more automatically charge a 20% gratuity which is quite generous of themselves for such rude service, which doesn't deserve 20%. I was very disappointed when we HAD to tip almost $10 when she didn't refill my water and rolled her eyes at us. An old couple came in and sat at the 4 or more table and the lady said "NOO NOO" the elderly couple left. They really need to work on their people skills. I love the service here. The girl running the front is on top of it like a BOSS! She has you coffee-d up before you even sit down. The breakfast options are basically what you can find at any Pueblo Mexican breakfast but the art and the atmosphere make this cozy dine a heart-full experience. The chiles are both good (Green being the hot) and the Red taste like a delicious Mole. The portions are just right and won't leave you in a coma. The signs however are unwelcoming for children and I had to drop my previous review because of the lack of hospitality my second time. The cook came out and was very upset our 1 year old daughter had put stevia coffee sugar packets in one of the water cups. Not the most kid friendly. read more

I have heard the food is good, but, the service is rude. That was no lie. I have NEVER been treated so poorly in a restaurant. I went for Lunch, excited to try it. I got a phone call and was told to go outside, which I did. The waitress told me, "we posted a sign," I hadn't seen it. I said, "me going in and out was probably more distracting then using my phone." I was then publicly scolded in front of all the customers. I gave two stars because the food I was allowed to eat was good, but, did not make it worth it. I told them I put my experience on Yelp, I got kicked out, but, got my money back. Have made me the wrong order and when I asked for them to fix it they told me to pay and leave. I told them I won't pay for something I didn't order and then the owner called the cops on me. We were amazed when they wouldn't let a party of three elderly folks sit at the counter (which was empty the entire time we were there), because the counter is apparently only for singles. Had fond memories of Martinez Restaurant as a child. This used to be one of my favorite places to eat. I used to recommend this to everyone, but now I would not recommend it and will never go back! I am very disappointed. I felt like a school child, with all the ridiculous rules. The rellenos had a distinct bitter taste, like vinegar. The green chile was ok and the decor is great, thus the reason they are receiving two stars instead of 0. Customer service is below average. Prices are way too high for what you get. I'm a total fanatic for Mexican food. THIS is pretty much THE BEST mexican food I have ever had in Pueblo. Born and raised in Pueblo, I left right after high school. All the other restaurants have just been "meh" since I left. This past week, a dear friend insisted that we go to Martinez Cafe. WOW. Truly awesome, authentic, flavorful, perfection... and it is the real deal. I'm a real fan of Red chile, and indeed theirs is exceptional. Enchilada & Tamale are flawless. Yes, there is a social expectation here. No cell phone talking. Leave the toilet seat down. Leave when you are finished. To me, this is common courtesy. This is such a treasure! Small cafe with fantastic Mexican food. Go early in the morning for huge cinnamon rolls. Clean and bright. Not a place to linger. We used to be regulars at Martinez when I lived in the neighborhood but, even after we moved we would drive across town to go for breakfast on the weekends. It is usually good and sometimes great, other times it is a miss but, most of the time they get it right. However, since Brooke left the service is been less than hospitable. Today was a horror movie. Our service was good but, what we witnessed an owner do and say to a couple with a young child was hands down the rudest most obnoxious thing I have ever witnessed. Yes, the child spilled some potatoes on the floor and I am unsure how it came to the knowledge of the owner who came out of the kitchen with a dust pan and proceeded to scold and then yell at these poor people in front of the entire dining room. She said some things that we could only hear bits and pieces of, the scolding and then she raised her voice and said, "I have never in my life seen parents who couldn't feed their child. I have dogs with more manners!" The parents were shocked, to say the least and we were so uncomfortable we couldn't wait to get out of there and never return. I worked in restaurants for 20 years and I have NEVER witnesses such total and complete unprofessionalism. YOU OWN A RESTAURANT AND WORK IN THE HOSPITALITY BUSINESS!!! Small children spill food, this happens and your job is to clean it up. THAT IS YOUR JOB AND YOUR BUSINESS! The family was so mortified but, still polite. I would not have been so polite in their shoes I tell you that. I wanted to tell her I have a dog at home with more manners than you lady and more class. We will NEVER return and I encourage others to do the same. The treatment of this family and complete inconsideration for the remaining patrons only reflected badly on her, I mean it was potatoes, I could have cleaned it up in 2 minutes which is beside the point but, seriously. And who puts carpet in their dining room? I promise you those potatoes are the least of the funk in that carpet.
