There is a new owner at The Master Mechanic and his name is Steve. He really knows his stuff. He is the only mechanic that we will take our cars to. We had our eye on a 2008 Mini Cooper so I called Steve and asked if he would check it out to make sure it was worthy and that there was nothing major wrong with it. He said to bring it in and he checked it out and said it was in great shape so we bought it. The people we bought it from told us they had to take it to Roseville or Sacramento for service because no one in the area worked on them. When it was time for the 140,000+ mile service I called Steve and he performed the service and we had the car back in several hours. He told us there were a few issues that needed to have parts ordered and when they came in we took it to him and got it back several hours later. His staff are super friendly and they know what they are talking about. To top it off Steve just hired a mechanic that lost everything he owned in the Camp Fire in Paradise. My wife's 2002 VW TDI New Beetle's clutch went out. Most shops here in Yuba City did not want to work on VW cars. I found The Master Mechanic online and decided to give them a try. When I called they were very courteous and I had an appointment with them right away. When I had the car towed and dropped off, the owner/mechanic came out and talked to me about the problem. He seemed very knowledgeable about VW cars. After a few days they called with an estimate that was very fair. I told them to fix the car which they did. The car was fixed in a reasonable amount of time considering the job. I can't remember the exact amount of days but it was less then a week. The VW runs like a new car again. It's been a few months now and the car is running perfectly. My wife is so happy with her VW now. I would highly recommend The Master Mechanic. I called these people with a simple question about a car I purchased from someone who had it serviced there. The receptionist was as rude as anyone I've ever talked to. She made it very clear that unless I made an appointment and brought the car in they would not even answer a simple question. Having lived in Marin County and the border of Yuba/Nevada County, I have seen all manner of auto shops, some of them quite good, others not so. My experience thus far is that it does not get any better than owner Steve Astle, Mark, and the friendly admin ladies at Master Mechanic in Yuba City. I brought my VW for some routine maintenance and for a wild issue of car floor drenched from some surprise water leak. Reasonably competent mechanics would know that it would 98% be with the drainage line from the sunroof. 2% would have figured out in relatively short order that the problem lay not in the typical location for that issue. Steve and Mark figured it out...and took painstaking care in making sure every single behind-the-scene issue was addressed, including a thorough drying of the carpet interior after removal, while also addressing a second not so obvious water leak. Some of these details might have created problems down the road, long after the repair, and this team made sure --- showing me visually what was needed that those problems would not catch me off-guard months or years later. Highly recommend their service for any fine vehicle of European (or otherwise) lineage. read more

I was just expecting a usual oil change, but he did a complete look over of the car. Recently, this was the second time and last going to these guys. After a coolant leak, I paid several hundred dollars for a new water pump, fan assembly, belt, and a reservoir cap (which was unnecessary). Although a fairly fast turnaround, I experienced another hose leak a couple days later nicked by the fan which had not been secured properly.
