    the menu for the mayhaw

There prices are IMO on the low end for a bar in New Orleans. I've drank at a few and thought their prices were good. I got two beers (different types) that were so good. I started with the Cajun For Honey Ale which had a good flavor. Then I had the Black Lager / Great Raft "Reasonably Corrupt" which is a darkish and lovely beer. When I check their prices on their menu I find their prices extremely competitive (and I do drink enough booze to know). Great bartenders

Decent, but sorely overpriced mimosa. The one in the picture cost me 9 dollars! Also the fruit flies in and around the area are a real turn off. I think the best thing about this spot are that I got this super cute free post card with my drink, and that the market itself is so cute and open. But in NOLA this definitely isn't the bang for your buck. (Makes sense. Some comments have called St. Roch the face of gentrification. They're right!)

Happy hour time! This is a True Daquiri

My boyfriend and I had been in New Orleans for about an hour or so when we realized that we were extremely hungry from a day of traveling from Chicago. We were staying in the Marigny at St. Claude and Mandeville, and our Airbnb hosts recommended a spot nearby that they described as "a food hall with a lot of options and a bar." We were immediately like, "SIGN US UP." It took only a few minutes to walk to St. Roch Market, and it was so cute on the outside that we weren't 100% sure we were at the right place. However, once we were inside and saw all of our options, we knew that we ~were~ in the right place. Immediately we walked all the way to the back to The Mayhaw Bar to order a drink. We were greeted by the bartender, who I later learned had the same name as me (hi, Anna!), and were overjoyed to find we'd arrived right at the beginning of happy hour (which, at The Mayhaw Bar, is from 4-6pm). During happy hour, all drinks are $6 -- including cocktails! -- so I ordered something called the True Daquiri, which was served gorgeously and its color matched the aesthetic of St. Roch Market. I was blown away by how perfect it all was. We were also able to grab food from any of the places nearby and eat them while we drank at the bar, since it wasn't busy inside. A few nights later, when we came by after the Krewe of Chewbacchus parade, the bar area was very busy. I don't recommend eating at the bar when it's super busy inside the Market, just so others have room to go up and order. Y'know, politeness and stuff. :) Thanks for the warm welcome, Anna and The Mayhaw Bar!

Chilled wine bottle in nice cooler; French 75 (yum!) cocktail, gumbo from Elysian Seafood.

I see from other reviews that bartender likability here is hit or miss, and that's a shame (shame on the people hiring the nasty ones). The barkeep on our visit seemed at first unhappy to be serving yet another couple of Yankee tourists (he was certainly much more friendly to his pals who stopped by to chat). I did my best to jolly him up and by the end he was nicer to us. The good news is, this bar has an amazing selection of bottles and my French 75 cocktail was perfect. We also took advantage of their nice selection of chilled bottles of wine to have a Muscadet to go with our oysters and gumbo from down the hall. This would be a five-star review if they could just have consistently welcoming and cheerful bartenders.

My goodness, one star from the sole previous reviewer? With one star, I expected to find SAE 30W served in a chipped glass smudged with lipstick. That didn't happen. This is a full bar with friendly service and some imaginative drinks, including some garnished with fresh fruit or herbs, and a nice selection of wine and beer on draft. This place would garner more stars in, say, NW Washington DC or Aspen Colorado, where the aesthetics (and prices!) would be more at home. (For more on the controversy surrounding this development, seek out the articles in antigrativity). If you want to drop eight bucks on a cocktail, it's a nice place to sit on your [choose one and only one, based on your take of recent development in this neighborhood] a: hard working, professional, deserving, college educated, entrepreneurial, discerning derriere. b: callous, insensitive, rich, gentrified, trust fund, Mister Mister, conscience-free bourgois bottom. As for my own rear end, it has two sides and I have to use both to sit. I enjoyed my tasty and refreshing "Bee's Knees" in a beautiful, clean setting with knowlegible barkeeps, but at the same time I was drowning my guilt (or more like splashing it, as my drink was rather small) over the fact that the folks who grew up across the street from this market could not possibly afford to patronize it. It's your call.

I tried "The Becki" to start off my St Roch dining experience. It was excellent! Lemony, refreshing and not too sweet. I would definitely buy again. Others in my group sampled mine and were impressed.

I WONDER IF THE EMPLOYEES AT RALLYS next door come here after work? At $6 a draft I doubt it.

Whether sitting at the bar, or in one of the many lounge chairs on the opposite wall, every seat is an excellent. While I knew of the drink French 75, on the bar menu it was offered with either gin or cognac. I decided to try the cognac and so glad I did. Perfectly delicious! It turns out that drink is actually a French 125, so I learned something new that night. Great spot with a great vibe.

While the Sazerac wasn't invented here, this is arguably its most iconic home, a place where New Orleans cocktail history comes to life. I would use this version as your gold standard when dining out in New Orleans and looking for a perfect Sazerac. We enjoyed watching bartender Rachel craft each drink. Rye whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, and sugar are stirred in a small pitcher with ice. The serving glass is chilled, then emptied, and finished with an absinthe rinse along the rim. The cocktail is strained into the glass and topped with a lemon peel. The atmosphere makes the experience even better. The murals, the history, and the energy of the room give it a sense of occasion that you do not get at most bars. We had such a great time sitting at the bar that my wife and I each finished two and a half Sazeracs, which tells you everything you need to know.

I'm not sure about parking as I walked to the brewery on my recent visit. This brewery has a great feel that hearkens back to a cozy neighborhood pub - eclectic seating divided between a couple of rooms with a small bar and a simple setup including around 9-10 taps. I felt right at home. Flights included four 5 ounce pours for $19. Food is mostly supplied by Shift Kitchen but you're basically invited to bring in anything you want. I tried the following: * 90s Women's Power Ballads - IPA - New England / Hazy 6.6% ABV - Pretty decent hazy NEIPA, Guiyang body with notes of citrus, finishes hoppy and a touch floral. 4/5 * Tenant - Bitter/Best 4.1% ABV - Very nice sweet malty bitter, notes of toasted bread, slightly toasted peanut, finishes appropriately dry and somewhat mildly bitter. 4/5 * Mr. Words Is A Monster - Pilsner/Other 5.5% - Interesting XPA, crisp body, hint of orange peel finishing hoppy, hint of pine and black pepper. 4/5 * I Am A Donut - Sour - Berliner Weisse 4.2% - Light bodied sour, fruity body with notes of sweet mango. 4/5 * Notice Me Senpai - Porter - Imperial / Double 8.1% - Tasty porter with notes of dark chocolate, English toffee and roasty coffee, almost creamy body finishing dry. 4/5 In general all the beer I indulged in were good, I think this is probably the best brewery I tried in my recent trip to New Orleans. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and knowledgeable, able to answer all my questions. I could tell this was a local spot - I engage in conversation with a few of the patrons and they mostly lived nearby. This is a top-notch hangout with a great local vibe.
