Very clean shop. Lots of specials for anyone. I ordered the economy bundle and the price is different than online. online it said 106 dollars and here said 115 but it was still a good deal. I also got 3 pounds of chicken legs and two of the pork fritters because they were $1.50 today. The young man who helped me was very helpful and let me swap out one of the items. he also let me know where their meat was sourced from. I believe they said the pork and chicken was from Delphi and the beef was from Midwest. They were all friendly while very busy. After I ordered, there was a large group of people, so I guess I got in at a good time! I loved my last bundle and I'm sure this one's going to be equally as good. The prices May be going up a little bit shortly, but right now they're honoring the prices that are listed on the boards. Well i bought a steak bundle less than a month ago and every pack ive thawed has been bad so far thats three in a row so i threw all of it away up till now ive been recommending this place to everyone I know great prices ,great employees with excellent attitude but i cant risk bad meat yuck and dangerous so definitely a thumbs down and i wont be back ill go to value meat market in moorseville indiana from now on never had any bad meat from this place. read more

We came in for the first time and we're greeted immediately by a kind woman. She answered our questions and let us look around at all the deals they had. She let us pick a bundle we wanted and trade out something we didn't want for something that we did! Then a very nice man helped teach us about the seasonings and spices and how to cook a good Chuck roast. We have absolutely loved everything we have cooked so far and are so impressed with the kindness of the workers and great deals inside. This was my first time visiting! With restrictions/limitations on meat during COVID, my wife and I decided to explore our other (local) options. After looking through the website, we called ahead to see if we could get a whole Fore Quarter Bundle (cuts from the front). I think there was a miscommunication. After doing a walk-in, we were told they also cap in person orders at $300. This meant, we could only get the half version. Still a lot of meat! So this was my take-away for those who might be in a similar situation. 1. Whether you order online or do a walk-in, your order is capped at $300 (obviously this could change). 2. My understanding is that you can also buy your choice of the offered cuts, but you might want to call ahead to verify. 3. Only three customers (not 3 parties, actual counts of people) are allowed in the store at a given time (at least as of 5/16). Yes, there might be a line outside; but I appreciated the current rule so that there was space inside the store. 4. Customers were masked up, but not employees. In fairness, they looked like they were keeping everything clean. 5. I'm under the impression that the beef is Grassfed (grainfed prior to butcher). I'm not 100% on this. 6. You won't necessarily get exact weights for everything you buy, but I believe our bundle was a good market price. Definitely cheaper than even some of the retailers that provide good quality affordable meat. The chuck roast we had (first night!) was good quality. So the short: good value for what you pay. 7. I was impressed with both the variety and quantity. So if you're frustrated with grocery store caps, you might want to check this place out. 8. Regarding the online ordering. It's great that they offer it. But for first timers (like me), I'd probably recommend walk-in. The online ordering may take a week or more to fill. But when you're in the store, you can get an idea of your options. I hope this is a helpful list of things for people in the Indy area looking for a good value. Beautiful ribeye steaks at a great price!! We enjoyed our steaks. The service was weird. We weren't sure if we were going to be helped and stood around like fools until a lady finally appeared. Apparently, the butchers aren't there to work the counter and they do an excellent job of ignoring you. ... but they have great stuff and great prices! Sometimes their meat can look a little old though, and their chicken prices suck. What a joke. Ordered a bulk meat package that was not ready by the date promised. Called 4 days after it was supposed to be ready (we were told they would call when it was ready) and was on hold for 5 minutes while they tried to determine if they had our order or not. Finally someone told us that they only had part of our order, they found the ticket, but no longer had all the meat, and didn't know why we hadn't been called . They offered to make substitutions for the items, we told them what we wanted, and they then told us that we could pick it up anytime. We arrived at the Meat Shop 2 hours later and the women at the counter had no idea what we were talking about. We explained again....... We waited for 25 minutes while they fumbled around in the freezer to put together the order that we were told was ready to pick up. While we waited, another customer came in to pick up an order that was also a week late. They left empty handed. At the register they tried to charge us 2 times the price that we were quoted and that is advertised on their fliers. When we questioned the price difference they actually became rude with us. We did the math for them on paper with the prices from their price list. They adjusted the price and told us to "Take our meat and get the hell out of there". We did and wont be back. read more

Odd shop. I went in for the first time to buy myself a nice steak, as I had been craving red meat and had none in the freezer (my family raises and butchers Black Angus). Upon entering the shop, half of the lights were out, cases empty except one, and all the employees looked at me as if I were a bother. I was helped by a young man who was slightly friendly, and selected a cowboy style ribeye. While he was wrapping my steak, I noticed that none of the meat cutters were wearing gloves, all handling raw beef with their bare hands. Gross, but it was getting late for me and I was really hungry for some red meat. Since he did not give me the option to pick my steak, I was a bit disappointed at the lack of marbling throughout the ribeye, and the excess of fat around the edges that had to be trimmed. However, it was tender and had a good flavor once I seasoned it with salt and pepper, let it rest, and grilled it. I don't think I will be going back to The Meat Shop, hopefully I will be getting another order of freezer beef soon. read more

I followed them for months and finally asked about a price for lamb chops, I was quoted $10.99 a pound. I drove thirty minutes one way only to be stared at like I was bothering someone by the staff then made to wait about 10 minutes before someone spoke to asked what did I want from a distance, not up front customer service. Everyone looks like they hate their job. The shop is dark where customers wait. The meat cases are full and signs of bundles are every where. I asked about the lamb chops and I was grimaced at by the whole staff and one man told me they didn't have any lamb chops in the store. I told him I had just spoke to someone on facebook and they tagged myself on my post and another man on the post and told us each the same price. They looked dumb founded like they didn't know who could have wrote me so it must not be real. I mentioned that I drove half an hour to leave empty handed someone might want to look into who is posting online on their behalf before people waste their time. No one acted like they cared, just went back to turning their backs then someone told me the chops will be in the next day. I called today (the next day) and asked if they had the lamb chops in, they said yes, I asked if they were fresh or frozen, they said fresh, I asked if they were still $10.99 a pound the lady said no, they are $13.?? I mentioned my quote yesterday, drove an hour round trip and I am returning today for the items and it would be nice if they honored that price. She put me on hold while she looked on facebook and found my comments and theirs, that is when she said okay she was honor it just this once, however the tone was depressed so I thanked her and she hung up. When I arrived at the shop there was one man checking out with his item, I was left for several minutes even after he left before someone asked what did I need. I told her I was the lady from the phone who called about the lamb chops and I would like three pounds of them please, she just walked away. She went back to rolling meat into plastic, another worker asked what did I need she told her and she asked me how many pounds I said three, she went to the freezer and came back out working, however it wasn't on my order, they were talking through their teeth and looking over at me from time to time as I smiled watching, again with the grimacing faces of being annoyed. Finally a gentleman comes in and returns the trash can he rolled in, grabs his apron, puts it on, then heads for the sink to wash his hands... he began my order since the chops were not what I was thinking that the other girl had batched up (finally) I saw them weigh the meat then trim the excess and still charged me for the weight it started, I have never seen a shop do that before. I paid for my items but it was still bothering me hours later that they are very rude and I can't forget the smirk the girl had on her face when he gave it to me. I had three other ladies come in while I was in there, they ignored the women of color but were quick to help the lady who was not and she had less of an order than the rest of us. I chatted with each person that was in there asking them how they like the shop, what do they like there, and that it was my first time. One customer told me that they are as cold as the meat they are packing so she keeps her head down asks for what she wants and gets out of their way, it bothers her how cold they are and she was happy to have me to talk to her in there. I never got to see the meat on the scale or what the end result was for what I had asked for, just wrapped and labeled- unsettling. While in my car I thought I have no clue what I just paid for $30 for a handful of bones? I reached out to the shop online and asked who would I talk to if I had an issue, I was asked, "how can I help", I asked who I was speaking with and are they the manager, I was told it is the owner. I let him know about my experience and how I was feeling like a bait and switch had happened. The response was unreal, sounded like a child responding, It was worded "sorry you feel that way" (that isn't a real apology or showing care or concern, they continued to tell me that I got a good deal and they watched the video and there were a few customers ahead of me. I told them I would love to see that video, there were people after me no one except a man before me was in the shop and he was leaving as I was coming in. The writer told me that they have great prices, great meat, and great service, not an apology or anything for their staff being rude two days I asked for a refund I was told come get one but nothing was friendly about the interaction just a defensive child telling how long they have been in business and how great things are there... yet one store closed and there are reviews here that have been happening smh I won't return as a customer 3 hours driving over 3 days from start to finish for nothing, I just need a refund I won't be back! Our usual butcher was full during hunting season so I frantically called around looking for anyone to take the two deer in the bed of our truck on a warm day. I found The Meat Shop had openings. I should have trusted my instincts, gross. But we were out of luck. I requested the ground have no added fat of any kind, since I personally only eat venison. Immediately after opening a MASSIVE portion of ground, I see added fat. I started to make into patties for my family, since I won't eat it, I see what looks like cartilage and tendons. Extremely hard pieces, that do not crumble with hard force. NOT JUST BEEF/PORK FAT. So all the ground is garbage!!! Now today after thawing a "roast" I uncovered a piece of meat I feel bad feeding to my dog. Absolutely inedible. Covered in hair, dirt, thick layer of fat and what looks like hide. It literally looks like a pair of tar filled lungs. A roast shouldn't be able to unfold. Disgusting! An entire year of meat for my family is trash. Out the money we paid to have it butchered and now we have to buy meat from the store AND EXTREMELY ANGRY I won't be able to eat meat until next fall. BEWARE! read more

I went there Saturday to purchase two beef ribs so I can grill for Father's Day. I dropped it off at home so my wife and I could go out and get gifts for a baby shower coming up. When I got home to prep the ribs, there was only one in there. The store was closed, I submitted an email and have yet heard a response. I understand mistakes. But who above the age of 3 can't count up to two? We know beef ribs aren't cheap. I will never go there again. As soon as I find other outlets this place is on, I'll post my experience there as well. I've been going to this shop for years.The staff is wonderful. Extremely helpful and will go above and beyond for you. They do special cuts and do their best with special orders. The bundles are awesome too, plenty of options and very reasonable prices. My dog also LOVES the femur bones too. The cowboy ribeyes are my favorite and $1.00/LB on Tuesdays! i got a bundle of meat last weekend. i was a bit disappointed when i opened the 2 fillets and saw 2 crappy pieces of meat that looked like pulled pork, but when i went to cook up a couple of porterhouses when i discovered i had one mediocre porterhouse and piece of what looked like a piece of cube steak, that pisses me off. im afraid to even thaw whats left. i will NEVER EVER buy anything from this place again. ill make sure everybody i know, knows it too read more

This place is freaking unbelievable. They had a groupon promotion in October...clearly stating no additional purchase required. Ha Ha what a joke....in October they honored the face value of the groupon....then in November they place 30 dollar minium purchase signs all over the counter. Groupon contacted them told to knock off the BS they said they would ....but as of today Dec. 5 the signs still there.. What a horrible way to do business...to spit in the face of current customers and future customers by blatant disregard of a contract they had entered into. The Groupon people did not make the mistake when offering the deal of the day that The Meat Shop of Indianapolis employees hissed when questioned why the signs.. I will not go back to this business and I was a occasional customer before the groupon blunder.
